Let's play two in Fresno!

Game 1: Las Vegas 6, Fresno 5

W- Josh Edgin (2-1)
L- Mike Hauschild (7-9)
S- Paul Sewald (12)

Fresno home runs: A.J. Reed (14, 2-run in 1st), Andrew Aplin (4, solo in 4th)

The Grizzlies scored in more innings in the first game of this twinbill, but the 51s scored more runs in the frames in which they scored.

A.J. Reed finished 3-3 in game 1, and his 2-run homer in the 1st opened up the scoring. In the 3rd inning, Reed added an RBI single to his ledger and came around to score on a single from Colin Moran. Andrew Aplin went 2-4 and smacked a solo home run in the 4th inning.

Mike Hauschild went 5 innings and allowed 6 runs on 8 hits (2 solo homers), walked 3 (one intentionally), and struck out 5. Brendan McCurry allowed a hit and struck out 2 over the final 2 innings.

How did Fresno fare in game 2?

Game 2: Fresno 2, Las Vegas 1

W- Brad Peacock (5-5)
L- Duane Below (5-9)
S- James Hoyt (28)

Fresno home runs: Jon Kemmer (9, 2-run in 6th)

Jon Kemmer's blast in the 6th was Fresno's only scoring play in game 2, but it turned out to be the difference. Tony Kemp finished 2-2 with a double and a stolen base (10).

Brad Peacock allowed 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3 over 6 shutout innings. James Hoyt allowed an unearned run on a single and struck out 2 in the 9th to earn his 28th save of the season.

Brady Rodgers will start game 4 of this series. He'll take on Darin Gorski at 7:05 Pacific.

Midland 3, Corpus Christi 2

W- Lou Trivino (1-0)
L- Evan Grills (3-4, 6-5 season)
S- Bobby Wahl (9)

CC home runs: None.

Evan Grills pitched into the 9th, but he ran out of gas and the Hounds took advantage.

Grills went 8.1 innings and allowed 3 runs on 9 hits (solo homer), walked 1, and struck out 6. Aaron West got the final two outs of the 9th inning.

Ramon Laureano smacked a ground-rule double with one out in the 1st inning, and he scored the game's first run on a D.J. Fisher single. Alejandro Garcia added an RBI groundout in the 2nd. Laureano and Mott Hyde were both stranded to end the game; both reached via the walk.

In game 2 of this series, Keegan Yuhl will take on Brandon Mann. First pitch is at 7:05.

Lancaster 4, Bakersfield 3

W- Scott Weathersby (4-5, 5-5 season)
L- Kody Kerski (2-2)
S- Jacob Dorris (8)

Lancaster home runs: Drew Ferguson (8, solo in 7th)

The JetHawks scored 2 in the 7th to tie and one more in the 8th to take the lead, and the first game of a new series.

Drew Ferguson stuffed the stat sheet in this game, finishing 4-4 with 2 doubles, a solo homer, 2 runs scored, and 2 stolen bases (26). He scored the first run of the night when Marc Wik hit a sacrifice fly that turned into an inning-ending double play in the 2nd inning. He led off the top of the 7th with a home run, his 8th of the season. Jamie Ritchie followed by drawing a walk, and Wik smacked a double. Brooks Marlow reached on an error that allowed Ritchie to score the tying run, and in the 8th, Lancaster went ahead thanks to Ferguson's double.

Rogelio Armenteros went 4 innings, and the two runs he allowed came on a home run hit by Tyler Marlette in the 3rd inning. Armenteros allowed 4 other hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. Scott Weathersby tagged in for 3 innings, and the only run he surrendered came on a homer hit by Drew Jackson in the 5th. He allowed one other hit and fanned 6. Ryan Deemes allowed 2 hits and walked 1 in 1.2 innings, and Jacob Dorris struck out Daniel Torres for the final out of the game.

Dean Deetz will start game 2 of this series. He'll take on Anthony Misiewicz at 7:30 Pacific.

Quad Cities 8, Peoria 7 in 11 innings

W- Ralph Garza Jr. (4-4)
L- Steven Gallardo (1-3)

QC home runs: Dexture McCall 2 (7; solo in 1st, solo in 9th), Kristian Trompiz (2, 2-run in 1st), Hector Roa (3, solo in 2nd)

The Banditos got out to a quick start, only to see the Chiefs put up a big inning for the second straight night. Luckily for Quad Cities, they had some time to right the ship, and they did so by forcing extra innings. Ultimately, they completed the comeback by walking off with the victory.

Kristian Trompiz kicked off this wild night with a 2-run home run in the 1st inning. Two batters later, Dex McCall clubbed his first solo home run of the game. In the 2nd, Hector Roa whacked a solo homer and McCall drew a bases-loaded walk. That walk would be the Banditos' last scoring play until the 8th; in the meantime, Peoria went on a 6-0 run that included a 5-run 4th inning to take a 7-5 lead.

Anthony Hermelyn walked to lead off the bottom of the 8th. Two groundouts allowed him to advance to 3rd, and Myles Straw smacked an RBI double to cut the deficit to 1. With one out in the bottom of the 9th, McCall launched his 2nd solo home run of the evening to tie the game at 7. Both teams went quietly in the 10th and the Chiefs stranded a man at 2nd to end their half of the 11th. Straw led off the bottom of the 11th with a triple, and Trompiz sent the crowd at Modern Woodmen Park home happy with a single.

Straw finished 4-5 with 2 doubles, a triple, and scored 3 times. Trompiz finished 3-5 with 3 RBI, and McCall (2 solo HRs) and Kyle Tucker (2B) had 2 hits apiece.

Matt Bower went 3.2 innings and allowed 6 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits (solo homer), walked 4, and struck out 4. Justin Ferrell was the first man out of the Quad Cities bullpen, and in 2 innings, he allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. David Schmidt was next; he allowed 2 hits and struck out 6 in 3.1 innings, and Ralph Garza Jr. walked 1 and struck out 2 in 2 innings.

Elieser Hernandez will get the start as the River Bandits and Chiefs wrap up their series tonight. He'll face Derian Gonzalez at 7:00.

Tri-City 2, Connecticut 1

W- Austin Nicely (4-1)
L- Locke St. John (2-5)
S- Agapito Barrios (1)

TC home runs: None.

The ValleyCats just eked out the victory in their series opener with the Tigers. They won despite leaving 11 men on base and going 0-12 with runners in scoring position. Fortunately, their pitching was up to the task.

Austin Nicely allowed a run on 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3 in 5 innings of work. Sean Stutzman worked around a hit to throw a scoreless 6th, and Agapito Barrios finished off with 3 scoreless, allowing a hit, walking 1, and striking out 2.

Both Tri-City runs came in the 2nd inning. Chuckie Robinson drew a walk to lead off the inning and scored the first run of the evening on a Spencer Johnson triple. Brauly Mejia brought Johnson in with a sac fly. Taylor Jones and Tyler Wolfe had 2 hits apiece.

In game 2 of this series, Erasmo Pinales will face Gregory Soto. First pitch is at 7:05 Eastern.

Greeneville 1, Bluefield 0 through 3.5 innings

This game was suspended due to rain and will resume tonight at 6:05 Eastern. Bryan De La Cruz's RBI groundout in the top of the 4th is currently the only scoring play of this game. Troy Sieber and Ruben Castro have the hits.

Jorge Alcala pitched 3 innings and allowed 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4.

The regularly scheduled game will be a 7-inning affair. Greeneville's starter for that game is TBA.

GCL Cardinals 10, GCL Astros 2

W- Mike O'Reilly (3-1)
L- Leovanny Rodriguez (2-3, 3-3 season)

GCL home runs: None.

Well, the game started out well enough for the Kissimmee Stros... and then everything went horribly wrong almost in an instant.

David Paulino's first rehab outing did not have anything go wrong; he allowed 2 hits and struck out 3 over 3 scoreless innings.

Randy Vasquez's 2-run single in the 1st opened the scoring and was the GCL team's only scoring play. Wilson Amador and Jose Benjamin had 2 hits apiece; Benjamin was making his U.S. debut.

DSL Astros Blue 5, DSL Phillies 3

W- Johsson Arias (2-0)
L- Yeral Gomez (1-4)
S- Jheyson Caraballo (3)

Blue home runs: None.

The Blue team got outhit 9-5, but they won in the column that matters.

Michael Garcia opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 4th inning. In the 5th, the Blue team got a pair of sac flies from Angel Tejeda and Brandon Benavente. Tejeda smacked an RBI triple in the 7th, and later in the inning, Nicolás Miranda drew a bases-loaded walk. Anibal Sierra finished 2-4 with a run scored, a walk, and a stolen base.

Johsson Arias went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits and walked 1. Yonatan Quintin threw a 1-2-3 6th inning, and Jheyson Caraballo pitched the final 3 innings, allowing a run on 3 hits and striking out 1.

DSL Phillies2 6, DSL Astros Orange 2

W- Abdallah Aris (2-0)
L- Humberto Castellanos (1-3)
S- Jose Jimenez (1)

Orange home runs: Jose Abel Hernandez (2, 2-run in 4th)

While the Blue team swept the Phillies 1, the Orange team got swept by the Phillies 2.

Jose Abel Hernandez finished 2-4, and his 2-run homer in the 4th was the Orange team's only scoring play. Enmanuel Valdez went 2-3, and both of his hits were doubles.

Humberto Castellanos went 5 innings and allowed 5 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits and struck out 4. Jose Antonio Hernandez allowed a hit in a scoreless 5th, and Luis Castro allowed a run on a groundout, a single, and walked 1 in 3 innings.

Round Rock 3, Fresno 0

W- Michael Roth (8-3)
L- Tommy Shirley (7-7)
S- Andrew Faulkner (3)

Fresno home runs: None.

There was only one scoring play in this game, and it did not belong to the Grizzlies. Fresno only had two hits in this game, and they both belonged to Tony Kemp.

Tommy Shirley went 2.1 innings and allowed a 3-run home run to Joey Gallo in the 3rd, 5 other hits, walked 4, and struck out 3. Brendan McCurry was the first man out of the Grizzlies bullpen; he walked 1 and struck out 5 over 2.2 scoreless. Jandel Gustave allowed a hit and fanned 2 in 2 scoreless innings, and Jordan Jankowski struck out the side in order in the 8th inning.

The Grizzlies will return home, with Alex Bregman still with the club, to begin a 4-game series with Albuquerque tonight at 7:05 Pacific. Mike Hauschild will take on Kyle Freeland.

I'm not thrilled that Alex Bregman isn't a Houston Astro yet, especially when this is an ideal time to have him up. But... I strongly suspect that the Astros front office knows what they're doing. They do a pretty good job at testing whether we can delay our gratification, and I admit that there are times (see: George Springer flirting with 40-40 in the minors in 2013) where I have failed badly at this. He'll be in the Majors this year. Just..... not at this moment.

Frisco 7, Corpus Christi 6 in 10 innings

W- John Fasola (3-1)
L- Chris Cotton (1-1)

CC home runs: J.D. Davis (15, 2-run in 3rd), Roberto Peña (8, 2-run in 8th)

The Roughriders tied the game with a run in the 9th and went ahead with a run in the first extra frame.

Mott Hyde put Corpus on the board with an RBI single in the 2nd inning. J.D. Davis clubbed a 2-run home run in the 3rd to put them in the lead, and Nolan Fontana added an RBI single in the 4th. Roberto Peña responded to Frisco's 4-run 7th inning with a 2-run home run in the 8th that put the Hooks back in front. Six players finished with two hits in this game, including Davis, Fontana, and Hyde.

Evan Grills went 6.1 innings and allowed 5 runs on 7 hits (2 solo homers) and struck out 6. Kyle Smith tagged in to throw 2 innings, allowing a run on 2 hits, walking 1, and striking out 1. Chris Cotton allowed a run on 2 hits and walked 1 in 1.2 innings.

Edison Frias will start game 2 of this series. He'll take on Scott Carroll at 7:05.

Lancaster 9, High Desert 8 in 11 innings

W- Kevin Comer (2-2)
L- Felix Carvallo (6-2)

Lancaster home runs; Bryan Muñiz (9, solo in 2nd), Aaron Mizell (4, 6 season; solo in 8th), Drew Ferguson 2 (7; solo in 8th, walk-off 2-run in 11th)

The Astros' affiliates dropped 2 of 3 from the Rangers' affiliates on Thursday, but the one win came in walk-off fashion. The JetHawks erased a 7-2 deficit by finishing the game on a 7-1 run, scoring 2 in the 8th and the 9th to force extras and winning the game with Drew Ferguson's 2-run home run in the bottom of the 11th.

Bryan Muñiz's solo home run in the 2nd put Lancaster on the board. Drew Ferguson drew a bases-loaded walk in the 4th, and Aaron Mizell scored on an error following a Johnny Sewald single in the 6th inning. Mizell and Ferguson led off the 8th with solo home runs, and then in the 9th, Mizell tied the game with a 2-out, 2-run double. The Mavs re-took the lead with a run in the 11th, but in the bottom of the inning, Ferguson sent the crowd at The Hangar home happy by sending a ball into the warm Antelope Valley night for a 2-run home run, his second of the evening. He finished 3-4 in the game. Mizell finished 2-6 with 3 RBI and scored twice, and Sewald and Tony Nuñez went 2-6 from the top of the order.

Rogelio Armenteros went 5 innings and allowed 4 runs (2 inherited runners charged to him) on 6 hits (solo homer), walked 4, and struck out 7. Jacob Dorris was the first man out of the JetHawks bullpen, and he took ownership of the 6th inning. It was a rare off night for Dorris as he allowed 3 runs of his own in addition to allowing both of Armenteros' runners to score. His 3 runs all scored on a home run. Dorris allowed 4 other hits in his outing. Scott Weathersby stopped the bleeding with 3.2 scoreless innings; he allowed 3 hits and fanned 3. Kevin Comer pitched 1.1 innings and allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2.

In game 2 of this series, Dean Deetz will start against David Ledbetter. First pitch is at 6:35 Pacific.

Quad Cities 12, Dayton 4

W- Matt Bower (4-0, 6-3 season)
L- Ty Boyles (2-6)

QC home runs: Anthony Hermelyn (3, 3-run in 2nd), Pat Porter (5, solo in 5th)

Quad Cities saw their lead whittled down to one run, thanks to a 3-run 6th from the Dragons, but they responded with 3 of their own in the bottom of the 6th and put this game away with a 4-run 8th inning.

Anthony Hermelyn's 3-run home run in the 2nd inning put the Banditos on the board and in the lead. Myles Straw hit a single in the 4th, and on the ensuing error, Randy César scored. Pat Porter whacked a solo homer in the 5th inning.

César, Hermelyn, and Myles Straw led off the 6th by singling to load the bases. Kristian Trompiz grounded into a force out that erased Straw at 2nd base, but an error allowed César and Hermelyn to score. Trompiz, who advanced to 2nd on the gaffe, stole 3rd and scored on a Kyle Tucker sacrifice fly. Trompiz reached on another error in the 8th and scored on a triple from Hector Roa. Arturo Michelena followed with a 2-run double, and Connor Goedert capped off the scoring with an RBI single.

César finished 3-5 and scored 3 runs in his Midwest League debut. Hermelyn (3-R HR, 2 R), Roa (2B, 3B, RBI, R), Porter (solo HR, 2 R), and Goedert (RBI, R) all had 2 hits in this game.

Matt Bower went 6 innings and allowed 4 runs on 4 hits (3-run homer), walked 2, and struck out 11. He is the second pitcher in the Astros system to reach the 100-strikeout plateau this season. Adam Whitt allowed a hit and fanned 3 over 2 scoreless innings, and Makay Nelson walked 1 and struck out 2 in the 9th inning.

Elieser Hernandez will take the mound as the Banditos look for the sweep. He'll face Austin Orewiler, a Galveston native and Rice product, at 7:00.

Staten Island 6, Tri-City 5

W- Taylor Widener (2-0)
L- Kevin Hill (0-2)
S- Brooks Kriske (3)

TC home runs: Jake Rogers (2, solo in 2nd)

The ValleyCats' comeback bid fell one run short.

Taylor Jones drove in Tri-City's first run with a groundout in the 2nd inning. Jake Rogers followed by launching a solo homer. Alex De Goti followed Rogers' blast with a single and was able to make it to 2nd base on an error. De Goti then stole 3rd (7) and scored on a wild pitch. Ronnie Dawson ripped an RBI double in the 3rd inning. De Goti hit a one-out single in the 9th and made his way to 3rd, thanks to a couple of wild pitches. Rodrigo Ayarza, who was batting at the time, walked, and Ryne Birk brought De Goti home with a sac fly. Unfortunately, Ayarza was left at first base to end the game. De Goti (2 R) and Carmen Benedetti (2B) both finished 2-4.

Dustin Hunt went 1.2 innings and allowed a 3-run home run to Timmy Robinson in the 1st, which was the only hit that he allowed. He walked 2 and struck out 1. Ryan Hartman tagged in for 3.1 innings and allowed an unearned run on 2 hits, walked 1, and fanned 6. Kevin Hill allowed 2 runs on 4 hits (solo homer), walked 1, and struck out 2 in 1.2 innings, and Juan Carlos Santos allowed a hit and struck out 1 in 1.1 innings.

Game 2 of this series starts at 7:00 Eastern.

Greeneville 6, Johnson City 1

W- Diogenes Almengo (1-1)
L- Austin Sexton (0-1)
S- Angelo Serrano (1)

Greeneville home runs: Chaz Pal (2, 3-run in 6th)

The Appy Astros avoided the sweep thanks to a big home run that gave them a little more breathing room on the scoreboard.

Jonathan Arauz opened the scoring in the 2nd inning with an RBI double. Chaz Pal got plunked to lead off the 5th, advanced to 3rd on an errant pickoff throw, and scored on a Vicente Sanchez single. Pal got his revenge in the 6th as he whacked a 3-run home run to extend Greeneville's lead to 5-1. Troy Sieber capped off the scoring in the 7th by ripping an RBI double.

Sieber (2B, RBI, 2 BB), Arauz (2B, RBI), Pal (2B, 3-R HR, 2 R), and Gabriel Bracamonte (2 R) all finished with 2 hits apiece in this game.

Diogenes Almengo allowed a solo homer to Bryce Denton in the 5th which accounted for Johnson City's only run. In 5 innings, Almengo allowed 2 other hits, walked 2, and struck out 2. Patrick Sandoval tagged in for 3.1 innings, allowing 4 hits, walking 4, and striking out 1. Angelo Serrano inherited a bases-loaded situation from Sandoval in the 9th, but he was able to record the final two outs of the game, thwarting the Cardinals' comeback bid.

Nathan Thompson will start for the Appy Astros tonight as they get set to start a 3-game series with Bristol. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

GCL Astros 4, GCL Mets 0 (play suspended)

This game will be completed on July 26.

DSL Athletics 2, DSL Astros Blue 1

W- Jhenderson Hurtado (2-1)
L- Javier Navas (1-1)
S- Jean Ruiz (1)

Blue home runs: None.

Well, the Blue team was left to rue some missed opportunities on offense in this one; they were 0-11 with runners in scoring position.

Angel Tejeda's RBI single in the 7th was their only scoring play. He and Nicolás Miranda had 2 hits apiece.

Javier Navas allowed a run on 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. Angel Matos allowed a run on a force out, walked 2, and struck out 1 in the 6th, and Juan Corniel allowed a hit over 2 scoreless.

Happy DSL Opening Day!

El Paso 10, Fresno 5

W- Carlos Pimentel (5-3)
L- Brad Peacock (0-2)

Fresno home runs: None.

The Grizzlies had a 3-2 lead after 5 innings, but El Paso seized control of this game by finishing it on an 8-2 run.

Fresno got on the board first with 3 runs in the 1st thanks to an Andrew Aplin RBI single and a 2-run double from Colin Moran. Jon Kemmer hit an RBI double in the 7th, and Matt Duffy drove in another run with a sac fly in the 8th.

Jack Mayfield led the Grizz in the hit column, going 3-5 with 2 doubles. Kemmer (2B, RBI) and Andrew Aplin (2B, 2 R, SB [11]) both finished 2-4.

Brad Peacock went 5.1 innings and allowed 5 runs on 7 hits (2 solos and a 2-run homer), walked 1, and struck out 4. Jandel Gustave pitched an inning (final 2 outs of the 6th, 1 out in the 7th) and had 2 inherited runners charged to him; he also walked 2 and fanned 1. Kevin Chapman got 2 outs in the 7th, but not before allowing the 2 runners he inherited from Gustave to score. He also allowed 3 runs of his own on 3 hits and walked 2. Chris Cotton was the only Fresno pitcher to emerge unscathed; he allowed 2 hits and struck out 2 over 2 scoreless.

César Valdez will start game 2 of this series. He'll face Aaron Northcraft at 1:05 Pacific.

Northwest Arkansas 2, Corpus Christi 1

W- Jake Junis (5-3)
L- Evan Grills (1-1, 4-2 season)
S- Kevin McCarthy (10)

CC home runs: None.

The Hooks' bats fell silent in this one. Despite that, they had a couple of opportunities to tie the game in the final innings. Unfortunately, Alex Bregman was stranded at 3rd to end the 8th, and Nick Tanielu was left at 2nd to end the game.

Their only scoring play came on a Roberto Peña sac fly in the 7th. Nick Tanielu's double was the Hooks' only extra-base hit, while Teoscar Hernandez singled and stole a base (18).

Evan Grills allowed 2 runs on 7 hits and struck out 6 in 5 innings. Edison Frias allowed 2 hits and struck out 4 over 3 scoreless.

Brian Holmes will start for Corpus as they wrap up their tour of Arkansas. He'll face Ashton Goudeau at 2:05.

Lancaster 7, Modesto 4

W- Scott Weathersby (2-3)
L- Carlos Polanco (1-4)
S- Ryan Deemes (3, 4 season)

Lancaster home runs: Brooks Marlow (2, 4 season; 2-run in 1st)

The JetHawks jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first 3 innings and got some crucial insurance runs late to secure the win.

Brooks Marlow opened the scoring with a mammoth 2-run homer in the 1st. Luis Reynoso ripped a double in the 2nd and Jamie Ritchie scored on the ensuing error. In the 3rd, Drew Ferguson hit an RBI single, and Ramon Laureano scored on a wild pitch. The Nuts scored 3 in the 6th and 1 in the 7th to make things way too close for comfort, but Laureano came through with a 2-run single in the 8th to seal the game.

Everyone in the lineup recorded a hit; Reynoso (2B, R), Johnny Sewald (R), and Garrett Stubbs (2 R, 2 BB, SB [9]) had 2 hits each.

Scott Weathersby tossed 5 shutout innings, allowing 3 hits and striking out 5. Brock Dykxhoorn went 3 innings and allowed 4 runs on 7 hits and struck out 3. Ryan Deemes worked around a hit to close it out; he induced a double play to end the game.

In game 2 of this series, Matt Bower will take on Ryan Castellani. First pitch is at 2:05 Pacific.

Burlington 4, Quad Cities 1

W- Jared Ruxer (3-1)
L- Yoanys Quiala (0-3)

QC home runs: None.

The Banditos' bats have gone cold; they've scored just 2 runs as they've dropped the first 2 games in this series.

Their only scoring play was an RBI groundout from Anthony Hermelyn in the 9th.

Yoanys Quiala pitched well, but unfortunately, he had to take the L. He went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs on 7 hits (2 solo homers hit by Brandon Sanger) and struck out 2. Juan Carlos Santos went 1.1 innings and had an inherited runner charged to him; he allowed a hit and walked 2. David Schmidt got the final 2 outs of the 9th, but not before he allowed the runner that he inherited from Santos to score. Schmidt also allowed a run of his own on 2 hits.

The River Bandits will look to avoid the sweep as Kevin McCanna takes the mound. He'll face Ronnie Glenn at 1:15.

DSL Astros Blue 5, DSL Dodgers2 3

W- Juan Cuevas (1-0)
L- Johan Mena (0-1)
S- Jheyson Caraballo (1)

Blue home runs: None.

One of the quirks of the Dominican Summer League is that although games start at 10:30 A.M. Eastern, the games are never live-tracked and results are never posted once the game is completed. They usually pop up later in the evening, or it may take a couple of days before they show up on MiLB.com.

Since there apparently isn't a box score available, I will update this post once I see it.

DSL Astros Orange 7, DSL Rangers2 1

W- Jose Ramos (1-0)
L- Jeifry Nuñez (0-1)

Orange home runs: Enmanuel Valdez 2 (2; 2-run in 1st, solo in 9th), Hector Martinez (1, solo in 1st)

Two homers in the 1st inning set the tone for the Orange team.

After Ramiro Rodriguez walked to lead off the game, Enmanuel Valdez launched a 2-run homer in his first professional plate appearance. Hector Martinez clubbed a solo shot later in the 1st. Martinez led off the 4th with a double and scored on an RBI single from Vicente Mota. Later in the 4th, Ramiro Rodrigurez drew a bases-loaded walk, and Valdez added a sac fly to his ledger. Valdez capped off an outstanding debut with a solo homer in the 9th inning.

Valdez, Martinez (2B, solo HR, 2 R), and Mota (2B, RBI, R) all finished 2-4. Gilberto Celestino got the start in CF and went 1-4 with a walk out of the #3 spot in the lineup.

Hansel Paulino walked 1 and struck out 5 over 4 scoreless. Jose Ramos went 4 innings and allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 3, and fanned 7. Gabriel Pirela worked around a walk and a hit to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out 1.

The DSL has Sundays off. The Blue team will take on the Dodgers 2 once again, while the Orange team will play the Rangers 2 again Monday morning.

Astros Minor League Recaps

Results for Wednesday, April 13, 2016

The rain just seems to find the Fresno Grizzlies. Luckily, they were able to get this game in.

Fresno 6, Salt Lake 0

W- Tommy Shirley (1-0)
L- Yunesky Maya (1-1)

Fresno home runs: Danny Worth (2, grand slam in 4th)

A 2-hour rain delay pushed back the first pitch of this one, but the Grizzlies weren't fazed; they got a big inning on offense, and 5 pitchers combined to throw a shutout.

Tommy Shirley started it off with 5 shutout innings, allowing 3 hits, walking 1, and striking out 4. Edwar Cabrera, Jordan Jankowski, Jandel Gustave, and James Hoyt all threw scoreless innings to finish it off. Cabrera struck out 2 in a 1-2-3 6th, Jankowski worked around 2 hits in the 7th, Gustave had a 1-2-3 8th, getting 2 groundouts and a flyout, and Hoyt allowed a hit, but he finished it off without any complications.

Jon Kemmer drove in the first run of the night with an RBI single in the 2nd. The Grizz put up 5 in the 4th as Tony Kemp drew a bases-loaded walk, and one batter later, Danny Worth cleared them with a grand slam. Worth finished 2-5, while Nolan Fontana scored 2 runs.

Michael Feliz takes the mound in the series finale. First pitch is at 6:35 Mountain.

Corpus Christi was off

The Hooks will kick off a 3-game series in Tulsa tonight at 7:05. Joe Musgrove will face Chris Anderson.

Stockton 4, Lancaster 3

W- Koby Gauna (1-0)
L- Angel Heredia (0-1)

Lancaster home runs: None.

The JetHawks' bid to sweep the series was foiled as they walked off with a loss in the finale.

Scott Weathersby shined in his season debut, scattering 4 hits and fanning 5 over 6 shutout innings. Unfortunately, he had to settle for a no-decision. Ryan Thompson was the first man out of the JetHawks bullpen, and he allowed 2 runs on 2 hits and walked 2 while getting 2 outs in the 6th. Kevin Comer walked 2 and struck out 2 over 1.1 scoreless. Angel Heredia allowed the game-winning hit, which was a 2-run double with 2 outs in the 9th; the runs were unearned, and he walked 2 in the inning.

Nick Tanielu opened the scoring in the 2nd when he came home on an error that allowed Jose Fernandez to reach. In the 3rd inning, Bobby Boyd singled, stole his way to 3rd, and scored on a Jason Martin triple. Boyd, who finished 2-5 with the 2 steals, hit into a fielder's choice in the 5th that drove in Alejandro Garcia. Drew Ferguson was 2-4 with a double and a stolen base (3).

Tonight, Lancaster opens up the home portion of its schedule as they begin a 4-game series with High Desert. Elieser Hernandez will start the opener, and he will face Ariel Jurado at 6:35 Pacific.

Quad Cities 5, Peoria 3

W- Ralph Garza Jr. (1-1)
L- Tyler Bray (0-1)
S- Andrew Thome (1)

QC home runs: None.

The Banditos took their first series of the year thanks to a 3-run 8th that put them in the lead.

Aaron Mizell scored Quad Cities' first run on a wild pitch in the 3rd, which tied the game at 1. The Chiefs got 1 in the 6th to take the lead, but Pat Porter came home on another wild pitch in the 7th to bring the Bandits back even. The tie would be short-lived however, as Peoria got 1 in the bottom half to re-take the lead. It didn't matter to the Banditos, though, because Porter came through with a 2-run triple in the 8th, and he wound up scoring himself thanks to an error.

Rogelio Armenteros went 5.2 innings and allowed 2 runs (1 inherited runner charged to him) on 2 hits and struck out 6. Ralph Garza Jr. allowed a run of his own on 2 hits and walked 1 in 1.2 innings, and Andrew Thome got a 5-out save, striking out 1.

After that brief roadtrip, the River Bandits will return home to open a 4-game set against Kane County. In game 1, Albert Abreu will take on Alex Young. First pitch is at 7.
