Happy Birthday - 8/5
Happy Birthday ~
RF Domingo Santana (22)
First signed by the Phillies as a NDFA out of the Dominican Republic in 2009, Santana came to the Astros organization as the PTBNL in the July 2011 Hunter Pence trade. Santana made a brief four-game major league debut starting July 1st, but has spent the vast majority of the season in Oklahoma City where he has hit .292/.375/.469 in 104 games. He was just recalled by the Astros and will fittingly join the team in Philadelphia to play against his alma mater.
RHP Yan de la Cruz (21)
De la Cruz, about whom I know nothing (including his country of birth) is in his first season with the Dominican Summer League Astros. In seven games (6.2IP), he has a 6.75 ERA and a 1.800 WHIP.
One former Astro celebrates the day as well ~
OF Jesus de la Rosa (61)
An NDFA signing by Houston from the Dominican Republic in 1969, de la Rosa's entire career consisted of three pinch hit appearances for the Astros in August 1975. His cup of coffee would give him a .333/.333/.667 batting line as his only hit happened to be a double. He also scored a run.
