Fall and Winter League Updates

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE

Salt River over Peoria 9-5
Thanks to a huge 8th inning in which Salt River batted around and scored five runs, the Rafters have managed to keep their 2.5 game lead over Mesa with 6 games to go.  The magic number is now 4 for Salt River wins and Mesa losses in order to get to the championship game.

Kody Hinze was 1-2 with an RBI (on a bases-loaded walk) with two walks and a run scored.  Jason Castro was 0-4 with an RBI and a walk.  And Jake Goebbert was 1-4 with a double, a walk, a run scored, a stolen base and a strikeout.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Caribes over Magallanes 6-0
Jose Altuve was 2-4 for Magallanes.

Zulia over La Guaira 10-8
Arcenio Leon pitched one inning and got one strikeout and the win for Zulia.  He is now 2-0.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE
Only one game with no Astros players involved.

PUERTO RICAN LEAGUE
No games today

I'm fairly new at REALLY tracking the minor leagues and I learned something new today.  I had wondered why a few of the players that were on the main roster for the Venezuelan League hadn't played yet.  Well, several of them HAD actually played, but the Venezuelan League has its own version of the minors and some were playing there.  I know this because Appy Astros has educated me once again, and I am truly grateful.

When I update the cumulative stats next week, I will include these other players that are toiling away in the Venezuelan minor leagues.
