Spring Training Update

Starting pitching from John Ely was a little shaky as were relief stints from Sam Demel and Jordan Lyles. The Chronicle's Brian Smith tweeted that Lyles was working on something so not to worry about Lyles, at least not yet. Edgar Gonzalez shut down the Pirate's offense after the sixth, but the damage was already done by that point. There was another pitching performance of note, but I'll get to that below. 1B Brett Wallace provided half the offensive output with a bases clearing double in the third.

Spring Training Record: 5-3-2

Spring Training Game 10 Results: Pirates 8, Astros 6
Game 10 Minor League Standouts: RHP Mike Foltynewicz made his debut with the big league camp and did a terrific job facing legit major leaguers in his one hitless inning of work. Folty struck out 2B Neil Walker, followed with a walk to 1B Garrett Jones and then erased Jones by inducing a double play from DH Brad Hawpe. Not bad at all, especially considering Mike admitted that he had a few butterflies.
