Several former Astros are celebrating birthdays today ~
RHP Red Witt (died January 30, 2013 at 81)
Witt came to Houston from the Pirates in May 1962 and pitched in eight games for the Colt 45's that season with a 7.04 ERA and a 1.891 WHIP. Witt's major league career was delayed by military service as he served in the Korean War. His best season was for the Pirates in 1958 when he was 9-2 in 18 appearances (15 starts) with a 1.61 ERA and a 1.292 WHIP.
RHP Rick Williams (61)
Signed by Houston as an amateur free agent in 1972, Williams pitched in 48 games (17 starts) for the Astros in 1978 and 1979 with a 3.58 ERA and a 1.314 WHIP.
OF Todd Self (35)
Drafted by Houston in the 15th round in 2000, Self's entire major league career consisted of 21 games played for the Astros in 2005 in which he hit .200/.250/.311.
