The moves out of the Astros front office have been coming fast and furious and the Winter Meetings haven't even started yet! In the latest move, the Astros announced that they have signed RHP Chad Qualls to a two-year agreement with a club option for a third year. The 35-year old Qualls most recently pitched for the Miami Marlins in 2013 with a 2.61 ERA and a 1.226 WHIP in 66 appearances out of the bullpen. He walked 19 and struck out 49 in 62 innings. A groundball pitcher, Qualls only allowed four home runs in 2013.
Qualls was originally drafted by Houston in the second round in 2000 and played for the Astros from 2004 through 2007 before being included in a trade to the Diamondbacks for Jose Valverde. In 262 games for Houston, he had a 3.39 ERA and a 1.236 WHIP in 284 innings.
