Oklahoma City 9, Reno 4
W- Bobby Doran (2-4)
L- Bo Schultz (4-5)
OKC home runs: None.
No letdown here; the RedHawks responded with a victory after walking off with a loss on Wednesday to take a 2-1 lead in the series. They scored the game's first 6 runs.
Domingo Santana went 2-4 and opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st. Austin Wates finished 3-4 and added an RBI single in the 2nd. He hit another RBI single in the 4th. Before that, Max Stassi hit an RBI single. Later in the inning, Marc Krauss hit into a force out that scored Gregorio Petit, and Santana hit his 2nd RBI single of the night. Krauss had an RBI single in the 6th, and in the 7th, Petit ripped an RBI triple, and Wates hit his 3rd RBI single of the night. Stassi finished 2-4 with 2 runs scored, while Kiké Hernandez logged his 2nd straight 2-hit game; he scored 3 runs, hit a double, and drew a walk.
Bobby Doran went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, walked 3, and struck out 1. Pat Urckfitz, making his 1st appearance in an OKC uniform since last September 1, went 2 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits (solo homer) and walked 1. Jason Stoffel worked around a hit to throw a scoreless 8th, striking out 1. Kevin Chapman finished it off as he worked his way out of a little trouble in the 9th to close it out. He allowed a hit and walked 1 in the inning.
The series finale has Mike Foltynewicz on the mound for the RedHawks. He'll take on Zeke Spruill at 9:05.
Frisco 7, Corpus Christi 5 in 10 innings
W- Will Lamb (1-0)
L- Michael Dimock (1-4)
S- Phil Klein (9)
CC home runs: None.
It's been tough sledding in June for the Hooks; they're now 5-13 on the month and on their 2nd 4-game losing streak; they began the month with 4 straight losses. The Hooks erased a 5-1 deficit, but Frisco got a 2-run single with 2 outs in the first extra frame to keep Corpus on the schneid for the 2nd half.
Jonathan Meyer put Corpus on the board with an RBI single in the 4th. The Hooks tied the game at 5 with a 4-run 7th, which was an inning in which they only had 1 hit. Delino DeShields was hit by a pitch (thankfully, not in the face) with the bases loaded, and Ruben Sosa followed that up by drawing a walk. Nolan Fontana provided the only hit of the inning, which was a 2-run single. Fontana, who added a stolen base (5) in the inning, finished 2-5. Sosa joined him in the 2-hit club as well.
Kyle Smith went 6 and allowed 5 runs on 8 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. Richard Rodriguez allowed a hit and struck out 1 in the 7th. In his AA debut, Mitch Lambson allowed a double and issued an intentional walk in a scoreless 8th. He faced 1 batter in the 9th and allowed a double, signaling the end of his night. Nothing came of that. Michael Dimock allowed the go-ahead hit, which was a grounder that took a bad hop and bounced over Telvin Nash in the 10th. He went 2 innings and the 2 runs were unearned; he walked 2 and struck out 3.
In game 2 of this series, Brady Rodgers will take on Jerad Eickhoff at 7:10.
Lancaster 13, Lake Elsinore 7
W- Kent Emanuel (3-1, 3-3 season)
L- Bryan Rodriguez (2-5)
S- Matt Heidenreich (1, 2 season)
Lancaster home runs: Teoscar Hernandez (13, 3-run, inside-the-park in 3rd)
The JetHawks picked up right where they left off in the 1st half by silencing the Storm. They jumped out to a 10-1 lead after the 4th and cruised to the victory.
Everyone had a hit by the 4th inning. In fact, all 9 hitters had 1 hit apiece at one point. The JetHawks opened the scoring with 3 in the 1st, on a pair of RBI singles from Rio Ruiz and Dan Gulbransen and an error that allowed Carlos Correa to score and Conrad Gregor to reach base safely. Correa added an RBI single in the 2nd, and then the floodgates opened in the 3rd with RBI singles from Roberto Peña and Tony Kemp, and then Teoscar scampered around the bases for a 3-run homer, which was made possible because Lake Elsinore's left fielder went down on the play. Gulbransen hit another RBI single in the 4th.
Gulbransen, who finished 3-5, hit yet another RBI single in the 6th. Then, in the 7th, Teoscar added an RBI double. And finally, Rio, who went 3-6 with 2 runs scored, capped off the night with an RBI triple in the 9th. Everyone scored a run except for Gulbransen. Peña extended his hitting streak to 13 games, which, I think, is the new season-high hitting streak for the system this season. Max Stassi opened the season on a 12-game hitting streak for OKC. Peña, Danry Vásquez, and Teoscar had 2 hits apiece. Tony Kemp was 1-3 with 3 runs scored and a steal (26). Brandon Meredith, in his first game back from the DL, was 1-5 with a run scored.
Kent Emanuel went 5 innings and allowed a run on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. J.D. Osborne pitched 1+ inning and allowed 3 runs (1 inherited runner charged to him) on 2 hits and walked 3. He faced 2 batters in the 7th and did not retier either of them. Matt Heidenreich pitched the final 3 innings and allowed 3 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits and struck out 1.
Game 2 of this series has Josh Hader taking on Zach Eflin. First pitch is at 9:05.
Quad Cities and Peoria was rained out
A doubleheader is scheduled for tonight, with the first game beginning at 6:00. Edison Frias will start game 1, and Evan Grills gets the start in game 2.
Tri-City 6, Vermont 1
W- Joe Musgrove (1-1)
L- Victor Veliz (0-1)
TC home runs: None.
The ValleyCats got the split in the 2-game series by scoring the game's final 6 runs.
Joe Musgrove had a nice outing; he went 5 innings and allowed a run on 3 hits, issued an intentional walk, and struck out 2. Krishawn Holley struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 6th. In his pro debut, Bryan Radziewski threw 2 scoreless and allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1. Chris Munnelly closed the door by striking out 1 in a 1-2-3 9th inning.
TC took control with a 4-run 5th inning, as Mott Hyde tied the game the hard way... he was plunked with the bases loaded. The bases were promptly cleared by a Marc Wik double. Alex Hernandez scored on an error in the 8th, and apparently they scored a run in the 9th. Wik grounded into a force out and I guess he scored on the ensuing error.
Where's the run?
A.J. Reed and Jamie Ritchie also hit doubles.
The ValleyCats will head to Lowell for 3 against the Spinners. TBA will get the start for Tri-City; he'll take on Jake Drehoff at 6:05.
Elizabethton 11, Greeneville 3
W- Cameron Booser (1-0)
L- Austin Nicely (0-1)
Greeneville home runs: None.
On Opening Night for the Appalachian League, the visiting Twins ran away with game 1.
Austin Nicely pitched 3.2 innings and allowed 4 runs (2 earned, 2 inherited runners charged to him) on 6 hits, walked 3, and struck out 1. Angel Heredia gave up a 3-run homer to Austin Diemer in the 4th that allowed both of the runners he inherited from Nicely to score. Heredia allowed 2 more runs of his own in 1.1 innings and allowed 4 hits while striking out 1. Juan Carlos Santos pitched 2.2 innings and allowed 4 runs (3 earned, 2 inherited runners charged to him), 1 hit (a single), walked 3, and struck out 3. Keegan Yuhl faced 1 batter in the 8th; he gave up a 2-run double. Eric Peterson was the only Greeneville pitcher who emerged unscathed; he allowed a hit and struck out 3 over 1.1 scoreless innings.
Jake Nottingham brought home the first Greeneville run of the season as he ripped an RBI double in the 2nd. Trent Woodward had an RBI groundout in the 4th, and Luis Reynoso scored on an error in the 5th. Sean McMullen was 2-4 with a run scored.
In game 2 of the season, Devonte German will get the start against Sam Gibbons. First pitch is at 6:00.
DSL Athletics 7, DSL Astros Blue 6
W- Wilfredo Magallanes (2-0)
L- Lachlan Madden (0-1)
Blue home runs: None.
For the 2nd straight day, the Blue team walked off with a loss. This after they fought their way back from a 5-1 deficit and took the lead with 2 in the top of the 9th.
Joan Mauricio got the Blue team on the board with an RBI triple in the 4th. In the 6th, Oliver Toribio scored on a wild pitch and Felix Lucas had an RBI double. Jose Benjamin hit an RBI single in the 8th, and in the 9th, Wander Franco tied the game with an RBI double, and Toribio gave them the lead with an RBI single. Toribio went 2-3 and scored 3 runs and walked twice. Lucas finished 2-4.
Carlos Hiraldo went 4 innings and allowed 5 runs on 6 hits, walked 3, and struck out 3. Jose Rosario struck out 3 over 4 perfect innings, and Lachlan Madden got 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th, but he couldn't close it out.
These two teams are currently doing battle at the Astros complex in Santo Domingo.
DSL Brewers 4, DSL Astros Orange 1
W- Melvin Tejada (2-1)
L- Yhoan Acosta (0-1)
S- Doni Baez (5)
Orange home runs: None.
The Brewers scored 3 unanswered after the Orange team tied it at 1.
That 1 run for the Orange team same in the form of a sac fly from Ihan Bernal. Cristopher Luciano went 2-4. Wilson Amador (5) and Frankeny Fernandez (8) had steals. Oz Ocampo noted that Amador's homer on Tuesday was inside-the-park.
Yhoan Acosta pitched 4 innings and allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. Edgardo Sandoval went 2 innings and allowed an unearned run on 2 hits, walked 1, and fanned 2. And, Ramon Rodriguez allowed a hit over 3 scoreless.
