Oklahoma City 3, Iowa 2

OKC home runs: Matt Duffy (8, 14 season; solo in 2nd)

The RedHawks fended off an early barrage and held the I-Cubs in check for the remainder of this game.

Robbie Grossman went 2-4 with 2 doubles, 2 steals (10), and 2 runs scored. He put OKC on the board by stealing home in the 1st. On the play, Jonathan Villar took 2nd. Duffy's blast led off the 2nd and was the only RedHawks RBI. Another double steal resulted in Grossman taking 3rd and Carlos Perez taking 2nd; an error allowed Grossman to score the go-ahead run.

Paul Clemens pitched 5 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. The bullpen held Iowa hitless over the final 4 innings. Jorge De Leon walked 1 and struck out 3 in 2 scoreless, Jason Stoffel walked 1 and fanned 2 in the 8th, and Kevin Chapman shut the door, striking out 1 in a 1-2-3 9th.

The RedHawks will look for the sweep as Rudy Owens takes on Kyle Hendricks at 6:05.

Corpus Christi 7, Tulsa 2

CC home runs: Telvin Nash 2 (10, solo in 2nd, solo in 5th), René Garcia (5, 3-run in 8th)

The Hooks are now on a nice little 4-game winning streak as they battered the Drillers.

Jonathan Meyer went 3-4 got it started with a 2-run single in the 1st, the only 2 runs that weren't driven in on home runs. Telvin Nash smacked the first of his 2 solo shots with 2 outs in the 2nd, and led off the 5th with the other homer. René Garcia provided the cherry in the 8th with his 3-run homer. Tony Kemp went 1-2 with 3 walks and a steal (1, 29 season). Ruben Sosa went 2-3 with a double.

Tommy Shirley went 5.2 innings and the only ding on his line was a 2-run homer to Taylor Featherston in the 3rd. He allowed 7 other hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. Richard Rodriguez threw 1.2 scoreless, allowing a hit, walking 1, and striking out 3. Tyson Perez struck out 1 as he got the 5-out save.

In the middle game of this series, Brady Rodgers will take on Tyler Anderson at 6:10.

Lancaster 6, Rancho Cucamonga 5

Lancaster home runs: Roberto Peña (6, solo in 7th)

Well, it got a bit hairy, but the JetHawks were able to fend off the Quakes in the 2nd game of this 4-game set.

The JetHawks jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the 1st, as Teoscar Hernandez scored on a wild pitch, Dan Gulbransen hit an RBI infield single, and Jack Mayfield had a sac fly. Conrad Gregor went 2-4 with an RBI single in the 3rd. Mayfield added an RBI double to his ledger in the 5th, and Peña's homer came with 1 out in the 7th. Teoscar stole 2 bases, giving him 26 on the season. Jordan Scott (9) also had a stolen base. Rio Ruiz scored twice and walked twice.

Lance McCullers was dinged by a Brandon Dixon homer in the 1st, but that was all he allowed in 2 innings. All 6 of his outs were strikeouts. Kyle Westwood tagged in for 4 innings and allowed a run on 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. Gonzalo Sañudo went 1.2 innings and allowed 3 runs on 4 hits (solo homer), walked 1, and struck out 3. Dan Minor allowed a hit and struck out 2 as he was able to close it out.

In game 3 of this series, Matt Heidenreich will take on Jharel Cotton. First pitch is at 7:00.

Quad Cities and Wisconsin was postponed


A doubleheader is scheduled for today, with the first game beginning at 4:00. Chris Lee will take on Anthony Banda in game 1, and in the nightcap, Jandel Gustave will face Victor Diaz.

Tri-City 9, Lowell 4

W- Blaine Sims (1-0)
L- Heri Quevedo (1-3)

TC home runs: J.D. Davis (3, 2-run in 1st), Ryan Bottger (1, solo in 3rd)

The ValleyCats jumped out to a 9-1 lead, and although the Spinners managed to get 3 runs off of Bryan Radziewski, they never seriously threatened TC.

J.D. Davis kicked it off with a 2-run homer in the 1st. In the 3rd, Bottger smacked his first homer as a professional. Jose Solano stole home (1) in the 4th, and then the ValleyCats busted it open with 4 in the 5th, getting RBI singles from Mott Hyde and Alex Hernandez, and a 2-run single from Bobby Boyd. Hyde brought home the final TC run with an RBI double in the 6th. Solano and Hyde had 2 hits apiece; Solano also scored 2 runs, as did Davis.

Blaine Sims allowed a run on 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3 in 5 innings. Bryan Radziewski threw a scoreless 6th, but he allowed 3 runs in the 7th. He also allowed 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1 in those 2 innings. Derick Velazquez threw 2 perfect innings; he got 3 groundouts in the 8th and struck out the side in order in the 9th.

The ValleyCats will look for the sweep as Luis Ordosgoitti will take on Jake Drehoff. First pitch is at 4:00.

Kingsport 4, Greeneville 2

W- Yoryi Nuez (2-1)
L- Austin Nicely (0-3)
S- Martires Arias (1)

Greeneville home runs: Ramon Laureano (1, 2-run in 2nd)

The Appy Astros couldn't finish off the double sweep as their offense was held in check.

Ramon Laureano had 3 of Greeneville's 5 hits, and his first pro homer constituted all of Greeneville's offense. He also stole a base (2). The other 2 hits belonged to Antonio Nuñez and Yonathan Mejia.

Austin Nicely pitched 3 innings and allowed 3 runs on 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 2. Krishawn Holley worked around a walk to throw a scoreless 4th, striking out 1. Juan Carlos Santos threw 2.1 scoreless and allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 4. Angel Heredia allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5 in 2.2 innings.

The new-look Bristol club will come to town tonight; they are now a Pirates affiliate. Reymin Guduan will get the start; he'll take on TBA at 5:00.

GCL Blue Jays 10, GCL Astros 8

W- Jake Brentz (1-2)
L- Justin Ferrell (0-1)
S- Bobby Wheatley (1)

GCL home runs: None.

The Kissimmee Stros got whacked with a 10-1 run between the 6th and the 7th innings. They fought back with a 6-run bottom of the 9th, but they were unable to complete the comeback.

Alex Melendez scored on a Hector Roa GIDP in the 4th to open the scoring, and Pedro Coa hit a sac fly in the 7th. The comeback was on in the 9th, as they got 2 RBI singles from Brauly Mejia and Coa and a couple of RBI doubles from Luis Payano and Melendez. Payano and Randy Cesar had 2 hits apiece.

Randall Fant allowed a hit and struck out 6 over 4 shutout innings. Justin Ferrell allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and struck out 2 in 4 innings. The wheels fell off in the 7th, as Christian Perdomo and Samil De Los Santos only got 1 out apiece. Perdomo allowed 6 runs (5 earned, 2 inherited runners charged to him) on 3 hits and walked 1. De Los Santos allowed 2 of his own on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1. Kyle Gehrs threw 2.1 scoreless and allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 4.

GCL is off on Sundays.

DSL Indians 2, DSL Astros Blue 1

W- Daniel Gomez (3-3)
L- Juan Cuevas (0-5)

Blue home runs: None.

The Indians nipped the Blue team with a run in the 8th that broke a 1-1 tie. Both teams traded runs in the 1st.

The Blue team's run came on an RBI single from Connor MacDonald. Jonathan Matute, who scored on the play, hit a double, and Andy Piñeda went 2-3. Angel De Leon, an outfielder, made his first appearance as a pinch-hitter in the 9th; he grounded out.

Starlyng Sanchez allowed a run on 6 hits and struck out 5 in 5 innings. Juan Cuevas went 3 innings and allowed a run on 3 hits.

The DSL is off on Sundays.
