Jon Singleton is out of control. I actually meant for that statement to have a positive connotation.

Fresno 8, Albuquerque 3

W- Brady Rodgers (2-2)
L- Jonathan Gray (1-4)

Fresno home runs: Jon Singleton (12, grand slam in 3rd), Matt Duffy (4, solo in 3rd)

Jon Singleton did it again. And the Grizz won the series.

Brady Rodgers had a fine outing as he allowed a run on 8 hits and struck out 5 over 7 innings. Kevin Chapman allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out the side in the 8th. Tyson Perez allowed a run on 2 hits and walked 1 in the 9th, but he closed out the game without further incident.

That grand slam that Singleton clubbed was his 3rd of the week. OF THE WEEK!!! Matt Duffy added a solo homer later in the 3rd, giving the Grizzlies a 5-0 lead. In the 7th, L.J. Hoes hit an RBI double in the 7th, and he would later score on a Domingo Santana single. With the bases loaded in the 9th, Singleton.... grounded into a force out that scored Carlos Correa.

Hoes (2B, RBI, 2 R) and Santana (2B, RBI) both finished 3-4. Correa was 2-5 with a double and 3 runs scored.

The 2nd leg of the roadtrip takes the Grizzlies to El Paso. Jake Buchanan was scheduled to start, but he's in Houston. Whoever starts will take on Chris Smith at 7:05 Mountain. Remember, El Paso does not use Central Time.

Corpus Christi 7, Frisco 6 in 10 innings

W- Travis Ballew (2-1)
L- David Martinez (0-1)
S- Jandel Gustave (4)

CC home runs: Jon Kemmer (3, 3-run in 1st)

9 innings was not enough to decide the outcome of this game, but the Hooks scratched across a run in the first extra frame, and they've taken the first 2 against the Rangers' AA team.

Tony Kemp singled to begin the game, and he eventually scored the first run of the evening on an error after a Tyler Heineman single. Jon Kemmer struck for a 3-run homer, putting Corpus up 4-0 after the 1st inning. Kemp finished 3-5 and hit a 2-run single in the 6th to put the Hooks back in front 6-5. The Roughriders tied the game again in the 8th, and that resulted in extra innings. Well, it turned out that one extra inning was needed as Leo Heras ripped an RBI double in the top of the 10th to put Corpus back in the lead. Heras and Telvin Nash both finished 2-4.

Mark Appel's run of poor form continued... he has got to pick himself up off the canvas. Appel went 4 innings and allowed 5 runs on 6 hits, walked 5, and struck out 4 in 4 innings. Mitch Lambson was the first reliever in for the Hooks and all he did was issue a walk and strike out 6 over 3.1 scoreless frames. Juan Minaya got the final 2 outs of the 8th via strikeout, but he did allow the tying run to score on a wild pitch, one of two that he uncorked in the frame. Minaya allowed a single to the first man he faced. Travis Ballew worked around a hit to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out 2, and Jandel Gustave finished it off, working around a leadoff double from Joey Gallo to do so.

In game 3 of this series, Kyle Westwood will take on Chad Bell at 7:05.

Inland Empire 6, Lancaster 5

W- Ryan Etsell (2-1)
L- Zach Morton (0-2)
S- Greg Mahle (5)

Lancaster home runs: None.

Sadly, the JetHawks could not hold a 5-1 lead.

The 66ers got to Joe Musgrove in the 6th inning as they got 2 off of him. He went 5 innings and allowed 3 runs on 11 hits and struck out 7. He has 36 strikeouts against 1 walk. The 66ers took the lead off of Zach Morton with 3 in the 7th. Morton allowed 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4 in 3 innings of work.

A.J. Reed opened the scoring with an RBI double in the 1st. Later in the inning, Jack Mayfield added another run on a groundout. Reed added an RBI single in the 3rd, and then Mayfield hit an RBI single. Reed would eventually score on a double play that Ronnie Mitchell grounded into. Reed and Mayfield had 2 hits apiece, as did Danry Vásquez.

Bryan Radziewski gets the start in game 2 of this series. He'll face Sean Newcomb at 7:05 Pacific.

Quad Cities 10, Cedar Rapids 3

W- Kevin Comer (3-0)
L- Michael Cederoth (1-3)
S- Akeem Bostick (1)

QC home runs: None.

Both teams scored 3 in the 2nd inning, but it was the Banditos who had the final say as they scored the final 7 runs of the night to take the first of 3 games. This is their 10th straight win on the road.

Bryan Muniz opened up the scoring in that 2nd inning with a 2-run double. Thomas Lindauer followed with an RBI groundout. After Cedar Rapids scored 3 in the bottom of the 2nd to tie, the River Bandits got another 3-run inning to put them in front for good. With the bases loaded and 1 out, Alex Hernandez hit a ball to 1B, and on the ensuing error, Jamie Ritchie and Mott Hyde scored. Ryan Bottger followed with an RBI single. Lindauer added a sac fly in the 5th and a bases-loaded walk in the 7th. After Lindauer drew the bases-loaded BB, Jason Martin hit a sac fly. Martin hit another sac fly in the 9th for the final run of the night. Mott Hyde finished 4-5 with a double and 2 runs scored. He, Nick Tanielu, Alex Hernandez, and Ryan Bottger scored 2 runs apiece.

Brandon McNitt, in his first start of the season, went 4 innings and allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out a career-high 8. Kevin Comer worked around a hit to throw a scoreless 5th, striking out 1. Akeem Bostick pitched the final 4 innings and allowed a hit while striking out 1.

In the middle game of this series, Austin Chrismon will take on Felix Jorge. First pitch is at 5:05.

  1. It's worthy of note that the Cedar Rapids Kernals, who the Bandits destroyed yesterday, are now 21-13 on the season and 8-2 in their last ten ... break up Quad Cities, they're too good for Class A ball!!!
