Fresno 11, Las Vegas 4

Fresno home runs: Matt Duffy (7, 2-run in 2nd)

The Grizzlies scored a touchdown in the 2nd, spurring them on to victory.

In that 2nd inning, they got a 2-run single from Robbie Grossman, a 2-run triple from Jonathan Villar, and 3 RBI singles from Tyler Heineman, Tony Kemp, and Matt Duffy. Kemp, who finished 3-5, added another RBI single in the 3rd. Alex Presley finished 2-4 with an RBI infield single in the 4th inning. Matt Duffy, who also had a 3-hit night, smacked a 2-run homer (7) in the 6th. Jonathan Villar finished 3-4 with the 2-run triple and scored twice.

Brady Rodgers went 5 innings and allowed a run on a solo homer, 3 hits, and struck out 5. Jake Buchanan pitched the final 4 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, walking 3, and striking out 4.

In game 2 of this series, Mike Hauschild will face Matt Bowman at 7:05 Pacific.

Game 1: Corpus Christi 2, Frisco 0

The Hooks took the first game of the twinbill despite being held to 3 hits. Well, they held the Roughriders to 2 hits and most importantly, zero runs.

Jon Kemmer had 2 of those 3 hits, one of which was a double. The only scoring done in game 1 came courtesy of Roberto Peña's 2-run double in the 2nd inning.

Michael Feliz allowed 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4 in 5.1 innings of work. Chris Cotton finished it off, walking 1 and striking out 2 in 1.2 innings.

What would game 2 have in store for the Hooks?

Game 2: Corpus Christi 5, Frisco 0

W- Josh Hader (2-3)
L- Edwar Cabrera (0-1)

CC home runs: Jon Kemmer (8, 2-run in 2nd), Tyler White (5, solo in 6th)

Corpus Christi swept the doubleheader in shutout fashion behind another solid performance from Josh Hader.

Hader allowed 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6 over 5 innings. Juan Minaya and Travis Ballew capped it off; Minaya struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 6th, and Ballew came on for the 7th and did what Minaya did.

Jon Kemmer opened up the scoring by whacking his 8th home run of the season in the 2nd. Tyler White added an RBI double in the 3rd, and he came around to score on a Conrad Gregor single. White, who went 2-3, struck again in the 6th as he took Victor Payano deep.

Joe Musgrove makes his 2nd start with the Hooks tonight as he takes on Jose Leclerc. First pitch is at 7:05.

Lake Elsinore 8, Lancaster 6

Lancaster home runs: None.

The JetHawks fell behind the 8-ball in this one after a 4-run 6th put them in a 7-2 hole. They mounted a comeback bid in the closing stages of the game, but no cigar.

Mott Hyde opened up the scoring in the 2nd when he scored on an error as D.J. Fisher successfully stole 2nd. Hyde hit an RBI single in the 3rd inning. Hyde, who finished 3-4, struck once again in the 8th inning as he ripped a 2-run double. He later scored on an RBI single from Brett Phillips. A.J. Reed scored on a wild pitch in the 9th. The JetHawks put the tying run on base, but Ronnie Mitchell lined out to end the game.

Kevin Comer went 5.1 innings and allowed 6 runs (3 earned, 1 inherited runner charged to him) on 6 hits (solo homer), walked 1, and struck out 5. Albert Minnis was the first man out; he allowed 2 runs (1 inherited runner charged to him) on 2 hits and struck out 3 in 1.2 innings. Minnis allowed a 2-run homer in the 6th, and one run was charged to Comer, while he got the other run. Keegan Yuhl allowed the runner he inherited from Minnis to score on a sac fly. He went 2 innings and allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 1.

Dan Mengden will be on the mound for game 2 of this series. He'll face Matt Shepherd at 6:30 Pacific.

Quad Cities 5, Clinton 4

W- Josh James (2-1)
L- Rohn Pierce (2-4)

QC home runs: None.

The Banditos got some timely hitting to take the lead and the series from the LumberKings. With this win, the River Bandits won the 1st half in the Midwest League West.

Nick Tanielu finished 3-5 and opened up the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st inning. Later in the frame, Ramon Laureano added an RBI single of his own. The River Bandits got another run in the 6th on an RBI single from Jamie Ritchie. Bobby Boyd put them in front with a 2-run single in the 7th inning.

Brock Dykxhoorn went 3.2 innings and allowed 4 runs on 8 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. Jordan Mills was the first man out and went 1.1 innings, allowing a hit, walking 1, and striking out 2. Josh James allowed 3 hits and fanned 3 over 4 scoreless to get the win.

The River Bandits will begin their final series of the 1st half as they welcome Burlington to the Quad Cities. In game 1 of this series, Christian Powell will face Keynan Middleton at 7:00.

DSL Astros Blue 6, DSL Rays 4 in 5 innings

W- Enrique Chavez (2-0)
L- Marlon Constante (0-1)

Blue home runs: Reiny Beltre (2, solo in 3rd)

This game was called due to rain.

Enrique Chavez pitched all 5 innings and allowed 4 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits and struck out 2.

The Blue team got 2 in the 1st on a pair of RBI doubles from Reiny Beltre and Cristopher Luciano. Ronny Jimenez added another RBI double in the 2nd. Beltre led off the 3rd with his 2nd blast of the year. Orlando Marquez followed by drawing a walk, advancing to 2nd on a wild pitch, to 3rd on a groundout, and finally, he scored on a passed ball. Jimenez, who finished 3-3 with 2 doubles, added an RBI single to his ledger in the 5th. Juan Piñeda went 2-3 with a double and a run scored, and Beltre also finished 2-3.

The Blue team is playing at the Rays complex.

DSL Cardinals 14, DSL Astros Orange 4

W- Estarlin Arias (1-1)
L- Jorge Guzman (0-2)

Orange home runs: None.

This was a 6-4 game until the 7th, when the Cardinals blew it open with 6 in that frame.

The Orange team put up 3 in the 2nd to open up the scoring. Anardo Peralta hit an RBI double, and an error on the play also allowed Oliver Toribio to score. Peralta scored himself on a wild pitch. Carlos Machado hit an RBI single in the 4th. Oliver Toribio went 2-4 with 2 runs scored.

Jorge Guzman allowed 5 runs on 9 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1 in 2.2 innings. Jose Ramos was the first man out; he allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4 in 3.1 innings of work. Harlen Florencio allowed 6 unearned runs on 5 hits (2-run home run) as he got 2 outs in the 7th. Michael Richez got the final out of the 7th and 1 out in the 8th; he allowed 2 unearned runs (both inherited runners charged to him), walked 3, and struck out 1. Yonatan Quintin allowed a hit and struck out 1 as he got the final 2 outs of the 8th.

The Orange team is playing the Cardinals again.
