Astros Daily Farm Report - 9/7

It's the last day of the minor league regular season, but there's still lots of postseason baseball to come!

STANDINGS, RESULTS AND LAGNIAPPE

FRESNO

Record: 1st 84-58 -.-GB W3 (Clinched playoff berth; clinched division title)

Sunday's Game: Fresno 7 over Salt Lake City 0

Mike Hauschild, Kevin Chapman, Jordan Jankowski and James Hoyt (with a 10 pitch, 3 strikeout perfect ninth) combined to shut out the Bees. And the Grizzlies now finally know who they will face in the playoffs.
Playoff Picture: Fresno's first two playoff games in the best-of-five Conference series will be at home on Wednesday, September 9th and Thursday, September 10th. The next three games (if three are necessary) will take place at the home ballpark of the PCL Pacific Southern Division winner from Friday the 11th through Sunday the 13th. On Sunday, we finally found out who the Grizzlies will face as the El Paso Chihuahuas (San Diego affiliate) won the Southern Divsion on the penultimate game of the season. Fresno won the season series between those two teams 10 games to 6.

CORPUS CHRISTI

Record: 1st 88-51 -.-GB W1 (Clinched playoff berth; clinched first half title)

Sunday's Game: Corpus Christi 9 over San Antonio 2

Quad Cities may have been the first team to 88 wins, but they only beat Corpus Christi by a couple of hours!

Playoff Picture: Corpus Christi will also host the first two playoff games Wednesday, September 9th and Thursday, September 10th, with Midland (an Oakland affiliate) as their opponent. The next three games (if three are necessary) will be played in Midland. Corpus Christi owns the season series against Midland 18-14 and split their last series 2-2.

LANCASTER

Record: 3rd 75-64 2.0GB W1 (Clinched playoff berth via the wild card)

Sunday's Game: Lancaster 5 over High Desert 1
Bostick finished his night after eight innings of work, allowing one run on three hits and a walk while striking out nine.

Playoff Picture: Lancaster will host Game 1 of the best-of-three mini-series on Wednesday, September 9th against High Desert (a Rangers affiliate). The Mavericks will host Games 2 and 3 (if necessary) on Thursday the 10th and Friday the 11th, but first they have one more regular season game against High Desert. Lancaster leads the season series between the two teams 14 games to 11. The winner of the mini-series will face Rancho Cucamonga (the first half winner) in the Division Finals.

QUAD CITIES

Record: 1st 88-49 -.-GB W2 (Clinched playoff berth; clinched first half title)

Sunday's Game: Quad Cities 14 over Beloit 2
Playoff Picture: In the Midwest League, eight teams advance to the playoffs. As the Western Division first half champion, the River Bandits play the second place team from the first half, the Cedar Rapids Kernels, in a best-of-three division quarter final. The first game will be in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday, September 9th and the second and third (if necessary) will be back in Davenport on Thursday, the 10th and Friday, the 11th. The River Bandits won the season series against the Kernels 9 games to 4.

TRI-CITY

Record: 1st 41-33 -.-GB L1 (Clinched playoff berth; clinched division title)

Sunday's Game: Connecticut 9 over Tri-City 4

Playoff Picture: With one game left in the season, Tri-City still doesn't know who they will play in the playoffs. The Wild Card (West Virginia currently leads the wild card race) will play the Division winner with the best record (Williamsport) in the Semifinals. The other two Division winners will play each other, which means that Tri-City as winner of the Stedler Division will play the winner of the McNamara Division, a race which is currently undecided. Staten Island leads Aberdeen by a half game in that Division with one game left in the regular season. Game 1 will be played in either Staten Island or Aberdeen on Wednesday the 9th and Games 2 and 3 (if necessary) will be played back home at The Joe.

GREENEVILLE

Record: 2nd 34-33 5.5GB W1 (clinched playoff berth)

Playoff Record:
Won 2-1 in best-of-three semifinals over Kingsport
Down 0-1 in the best-of-three League Championship Series

Sunday's Game: Princeton 12 over Greeneville 2

Ouch. Game 2 today in Princeton.

Playoff Picture: Now that Greeneville won the semifinals, they will go on to face Princeton in the League Championship Series, starting Sunday night at home with Games 2 and 3 (if necessary) to be played in Princeton on Monday and Tuesday. The Astros and the Rays split the season series 3-3.

GULF COAST LEAGUE

Record: 4th 19-41 16.5GB L7 (Eliminated from postseason play)
