Astros Minor League Recaps

Results for Tuesday, April 12, 2016

Not a lot of offense to speak of in this slate of games, as none of them scored more than 3 runs.

Kyle Tucker put his tools on full display for Quad Cities.

Salt Lake 2, Fresno 1

W- A.J. Achter (1-0)
L- Mike Hauschild (0-1)
S- Javy Guerra (2)

Fresno home runs: None.

Both teams had 8 hits, but Salt Lake had 1 more in the run column, which ultimately decides the winner of a baseball game.

Fresno's only run came courtesy of an RBI double from Colin Moran in the 3rd inning, which scored Danny Worth. Moran finished 2-4, as did Eury Perez. Tony Kemp went 3-4 at the top of the order.

Mike Hauschild went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. Kevin Chapman worked around a hit and a walk to throw a scoreless 7th, striking out 1, and Juan Minaya fanned 2 in a 1-2-3 8th.

In game 3 of this series, Tommy Shirley will take the mound. He'll take on Yunesky Maya at 6:35 Mountain.

Springfield 7, Corpus Christi 3

W- Corey Littrell (1-0)
L- Michael Freeman (1-1)

CC home runs: Alex Bregman (3, solo in 5th)

A bullpen breakdown cost the Hooks dearly in this game.

Keegan Yuhl got the start and allowed a run on 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5 in 4.2 innings of work. David Schmidt was the first man out; he managed to extract Yuhl from a bases-loaded jam to end the 5th. Overall, he went 1.2 innings and had 2 inherited runners charged to him. Schmidt also allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 1.

Michael Freeman got the final 2 outs of the 7th, but not before allowing a 2-run single that allowed both of Schmidt's runners to score. He faced 4 Cardinals in the 8th and failed to retire any of them. Brendan McCurry came on with 2 runners on and proceeded to serve up a 3-run shot to Chris Jacobs. He did bounce back to strike out the side, but the damage was done. 1 of those 3 runs was charged to him, while Freeman was tagged for the other 2. The homer was the only hit that McCurry allowed; he also threw 1-2-3 9th and struck out 4.

D.J. Fisher opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st, and he struck again in the 3rd with an RBI double. Those were his 2 hits on the evening, and he also stole a base, his first at the AA level. Teoscar Hernandez went 2-4 and scored on both of Fisher's hits. In the 5th, Alex Bregman clubbed a solo shot.

The Hooks have today off. Tomorrow, they'll begin a 6-game roadtrip in which they'll travel to Tulsa and Springfield after playing both of these clubs at home.

Lancaster 3, Stockton 1

W- Brock Dykxhoorn (1-0)
L- Zack Erwin (0-1)
S- Riley Ferrell (1)

Lancaster home runs: None.

The JetHawks fell behind early, but they handcuffed the Ports the rest of the way to take the series.

Brock Dykxhoorn gave up a run in the 1st inning, but he and three relievers combined to hold Stockton scoreless over the final 8 innings. The big Canadian scattered 6 hits and struck out 6 over 5 innings. Angel Heredia was the first man out, and he worked around a hit batter to throw a scoreless 6th, striking out 1. Eric Peterson followed by allowing a hit and fanning 3 over 2 scoreless, and Riley Ferrell worked around a hit to record the save, striking out 2.

Alejandro Garcia struck out in the 4th inning, but the pitch got away, and when Stockton C Argenis Raga recovered the ball, he promptly threw it away, which allowed Jamie Ritchie to score Lancaster's first run. Garcia then stole 2nd and scored on an RBI single from Kristian Trompiz. Ritchie, who finished 2-5, drove in the final run of the evening with an RBI single in the 5th. Jason Martin reached in all 5 of his plate appearances, finishing 2-2 with a double, 3 walks, and 2 stolen bases.

Lancaster will look for the sweep as Scott Weathersby takes on Riley Gossett. First pitch is at 7:10 Pacific.

Quad Cities 2, Peoria 0

W- Alex Winkelman (1-0)
L- Brennan Leitao (0-1)
S- Adam Whitt (1)

QC home runs: Kyle Tucker (1, solo in 1st)

The Banditos got off the schneid with a shutout. They only had 4 hits, but won in the column that counts.

Kyle Tucker opened the scoring with his first Midwest League homer, a solo shot in the 1st. Daz Cameron scored the game's other run on a wild pitch in the 3rd. Little Tuck finished 3-3 with a stolen base (1) and also had an outfield assist, throwing out Vaughn Bryan at 2nd. The other Bandits hit was a single from Dex McCall.

Alex Winkelman had a much better second outing as he allowed 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3 over 5 shutout innings. Ryan Deemes tagged in for 3 innings, allowing 3 hits and fanning 5, and Adam Whitt got the save, working around a hit batter to complete the shutout.

Rogelio Armenteros will start the series finale; he'll face Derian Gonzalez at 6:30.
