Round Rock 6, San Antonio 1

RR home runs: Kyle Tucker (34, solo in 2nd)

The Express took three of four from the Missions, giving them a three-game lead heading into the final series of the regular season.

Brandon Bielak allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out six over six shutout innings. Josh James walked one and struck out three in two innings and the Missions spoiled the shutout with a solo homer off Cionel Pérez in the 9th. Cionel allowed one other hit, walked one, and struck out one.

Kyle Tucker got things started by launching a homer to lead off the 2nd. They loaded the bases with one out in the 4th and got three runs out of it: Ronnie Dawson got plunked to bring in Nick Tanielu and then Chas McCormick hit a sac fly and Myles Straw legged out an RBI bunt single. Taylor Jones ripped an RBI double in the 8th and he wound up scoring on a wild pitch. Straw, Tucker, and Tanielu all finished with two hits on the night.

Round Rock will wrap up the 2019 regular season with four games in Omaha. Rogelio Armenteros will start game one and he'll take on Jake Kalish at 7:05.

Arkansas 8, Corpus Christi 6

CC home runs: Colton Shaver (21, 2-run in 3rd), Jake Adams (21, 2-run in 5th)

The Hooks were eliminated from playoff contention with this loss.

Colton Shaver opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st and then he launched a two-run homer in the 3rd. Jacob Meyers hit an RBI single in the 5th but got picked off after Shaver drew a walk. Jake Adams had to settle for a two-run home run instead. Unfortunately, the Travs finished on a 5-0 run, scoring in each of the last four innings.

Shaver reached in all four of his plate appearances, going 2-2 with a couple of walks and scoring twice. Adams also finished with two hits on the night.

Brett Adcock pitched four innings and allowed three runs on four hits (two solo homers), walked one, and struck out four. Nick Hernandez was the first man out of the Corpus bullpen and he went two innings, allowing two runs on three hits and walking one. Tommy DeJuneas allowed a run in the 6th and failed to get an out in the 7th; he allowed two runs (one inherited runner charged to him) on three hits, walked two, and struck out two. Justin Ferrell was next; he allowed a run on two hits, walked two, and struck out one in 1.2 innings. Carlos Sanabria struck out the only man he faced for the final out of the 9th.

Corpus will conclude its season with a four-game series against Tulsa starting tonight at 6:15. Bryan Abreu gets the start in game one and he'll face Josiah Gray.

Fayetteville 5, Carolina 0

Three Fayetteville pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout as the Woodpeckers clinched a Carolina League playoff berth in their first season as the Woodpeckers; they are the defending Carolina League champions, which they won as the Buies Creek Astros.

Austin Hansen allowed a hit, walked three, and struck out eight in 4.1 innings of work. Cody Deason tagged in for 3.2 innings, allowing two hits and striking out five. Humberto Castellanos walked one and struck out one in the 9th to complete the shutout.

David Hensley opened the scoring by hitting a sac fly that eventually turned into a double play. He and Cal Stevenson both ripped two-run doubles in the 5th inning. Stevenson finished 3-5 on the night.

Fayetteville will conclude the regular season with a five-game set against their divisional-round opponents, the Down East Wood Ducks. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 3, Cedar Rapids 2

QC home runs: None.

The Banditos scored three in the 1st and that was all for them on offense. Fortunately, those three runs held up in the end and they came out on top in their penultimate road game of the 2019 regular season.

Oscar Campos and Freúdis Nova hit RBI singles and Alex Holderbach drove in the third run with a groundout. Alex McKenna finished 2-4 on the evening.

Jonathan Bermúdez allowed two runs on a pair of solo homers, one other hit, and struck out seven in six innings. Felipe Tejada finished things off with three scoreless, allowing a hit, walking three, and striking out four.

Matt Ruppenthal will take on Andrew Cabezas in Quad Cities' road finale. First pitch is at 6:35.

Tri-City

The ValleyCats split a doubleheader with Lowell, taking game one by a final of 6-3 and losing the second game 7-2.

Game 1: W 6-3

Tri-City erupted for five runs in the 6th to take control of this game.

Kyle Serrano allowed an unearned run on a bases-loaded walk, a hit, issued another walk, and struck out one in the 1st. Edgardo Sandoval went six innings and allowed two runs on three hits (solo homer), walked one, and struck out eight.

Nate Perry opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st. All five of the ValleyCats' runs in that big 6th came with two outs. Luis Santana hit an RBI single and then Korey Lee and Perry drew bases-loaded walks. Joe Perez capped things off with a two-run single. Lee finished 2-2 in game one with a triple and scored twice.

Game 2: L 7-2

The Spinners went off for five in the opening inning to cruise to the win in the second game of the twinbill.

Lee's two-run shot in the 4th represented the ValleyCats' only scoring play of this game.

Yeremi Ceballos allowed a solo homer and struck out six in three innings of relief; he was the third pitcher to appear for the ValleyCats in game two.

Juan Pablo Lopez will start the series finale. First pitch is at 7:05 Eastern.

Round Rock 11, Albuquerque 6

RR home runs: Kyle Tucker 2 (32; 2-run in 1st, 2-run in 9th), Garrett Stubbs (7, solo in 5th)

The E-Train went off for five runs in the top of the 9th to bust open what had been a 6-5 lead and then they defused a bases-loaded predicament before things got out of hand in the bottom of the 9th.

Kyle Tucker whacked the first of his two two-run homers on the night in the 1st inning. Garrett Stubbs led off the 5th with a home run and Jack Mayfield drove in another run with an RBI single. In the 7th, Nick Tanielu ripped an RBI double and he came home on Mayfield's sac fly. In the 9th, Tanielu smacked a two-run double and came around to score on Mayfield's base hit. One batter later, Tucker launched his second two-run shot of the night. The three of them, along with Myles Straw, all finished with two hits on the evening.

Framber Valdez pitched 6.2 innings and allowed four runs, all of which scored on a pair of two-run homers, on six hits, walked one, and struck out a career-high 13, which also set a new Round Rock franchise record at the Triple-A level. Ronel Blanco was the first man out of the Round Rock bullpen; he got the last out of the 7th and pitched the 8th, allowing an unearned run on a passed ball, a hit, and walking one. Riley Ferrell allowed a run on two hits, walked two, and struck out two in the 9th. The Isotopes loaded the bases on him but he managed to keep his composure and finished this game off.

José Urquidy will start the series finale and he'll go up against Chris Rusin at 6:35 Mountain.

Corpus Christi 7, Frisco 5

CC home runs: Jake Adams (17, 2-run in 2nd)

The Hooks had to withstand a five-run 8th from the Roughriders but fortunately, they were able to emerge with the victory.

Yohan Ramriez allowed five hits, walked two, and struck out eight in 4.1 innings of work. Colin McKee came in with two men on and stranded them both as he got the last two outs of the 5th, striking out one. Brett Adcock was next; he allowed a grand slam in Frisco's huge 8th, one of six hits that he allowed in his 2.1 innings. Adcock also walked two and struck out four. Carlos Sanabria got the last 1.2 innings and allowed an unearned run on an RBI single and struck out two.

Jake Adams homered for the second consecutive night as he launched a two-run shot in the 2nd inning. With the bases loaded and two outs in the 6th, Adams brought everyone in with a double and he came around to score on a Chuckie Robinson single. J.J. Matijevic lashed an RBI double in the 7th but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple. Adams finished 2-4 on the night and had a hand in all but one of Corpus Christi's scoring plays.

Fayetteville was off

The Woodpeckers will begin a three-game series with Down East at 7:00 Eastern.

Wisconsin 4, Quad Cities 3

QC home runs: None.

The Banditos were foiled in their bid to sweep this series as their comeback bid fell short.

Guadalupe Chavez pitched four innings and allowed an unearned run on three hits and walked two. Felipe Tejada and Devin Conn threw two innings apiece, with contrasting results. Tejada allowed three runs on three hits, walked two, and struck out two, while Conn had a perfect outing, recording four groundouts and two flyball outs.

Quad Cities got on the board in the 7th thanks to a couple of errors that allowed James Nix and Austin Dennis to score. Freúdis Nova drove in a run with a groundout in the 8th. Oscar Campos went 2-4 and stole a base in this game.

The Banditos will have Tuesday off before starting a three-game series with Beloit on Wednesday.

Tri-City 7, Connecticut 5

W- Peyton Battenfield (2-1)

TC home runs: A.J. Lee (5, 2-run in 2nd), Nate Perry (8, solo in 2nd), Jordan Brewer (1, solo in 3rd)

The ValleyCats stormed out to a 7-0 lead after the 3rd inning and staved off the Tigers' comeback bid.

Hunter Brown started things off with two scoreless, walking one and striking out four. Derek West and Peyton Battenfield followed with three innings apiece; West allowed three runs on three hits, walked one, and struck out five, while Battenfield allowed two runs on four hits, walked one, and struck out five. Peyton Plumlee pitched a 1-2-3 9th to get the save.

C.J. Stubbs opened up the scoring with a two-run double in the 1st inning. Tri-City went off for four in the 2nd as Luis Santana hit a sac fly and A.J. Lee (two-run) and Nate Perry (solo) clubbed back-to-back home runs. Jordan Brewer went deep for the first time as a pro when he sent one out for a solo shot in the 3rd inning. A.J. Lee finished 3-4 on the night while Perry and Brewer both finished with two hits and two runs scored.

The ValleyCats will look for a series sweep in their final meeting with the Tigers in 2019. First pitch is at 7:05 Eastern.

DSL Astros 4, DSL Athletics 2

The Dominican 'Stros had the advantage of putting up the only crooked number in this game.

Yohander Martinez hit his first career homer, a two-run blast in the 1st that opened the scoring. Miguel Palma drove in a run with a groundout in the 3rd and scored on a sac fly from Cristian Gonzalez in the 8th. Carlos Hurtado went 2-3.

Danny Subero allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out three over three scoreless. Miguel Padilla walked one and struck out two in a scoreless 4th. José Nodal took over for four innings and he allowed a run on two hits while striking out four and Edinson Batista allowed a run on a sac fly, a single, walked one, and struck out two in the 9th.

The Express scored in just one inning but it was more than enough for them to get the victory.

All five of their runs came in the 6th as they capitalized on a bases-loaded situation. Taylor Jones scored the first run of the night on a wild pitch. After Josh Rojas hit into a fielder's choice and Drew Ferguson walked to re-load the bases, Kyle Tucker came through with a two-run single and then Ferguson scored on an errant pickoff throw. Tucker scored the final run of the night on another wild pitch. He and Jack Mayfield had two hits apiece.

Framber Valdez allowed four hits, walked three, and struck out ten over 6.2 shutout innings. Ralph Garza Jr. finished off the shutout by allowing a hit, walking one, and striking out two over the final 2.1 innings.

Brady Rodgers will be on the mound for game four and he'll take on Eric Skoglund at 7:05.

Corpus Christi 3, Frisco 1

A fine night on the mound for the Hooks as Brandon Bailey and Willy Collado combined to hold the Roughriders to just three hits.

Bailey allowed two hits, one of which was a solo homer, walked two, and struck out four in five innings of work. Collado took over for the final four innings, allowing a hit and striking out two.

Ronnie Dawson put Corpus on the board by ripping an RBI double in the 3rd and Chuckie Robinson hit a two-run single with the bases loaded in the 5th to put them in front. Dawson also stole a base, his tenth of the year.

Scott Schreiber's three-run blast in the 8th represented Fayetteville's lone scoring play.

Chad Donato went 5.1 innings and allowed six runs (one inherited runner charged to him) on nine hits (two solo homers) and struck out six. Leovanny Rodríguez came on for 2.2 innings and he allowed three runs on three hits (two-run homer), walked one, and struck out three. Yeremi Ceballos struck out two in a 1-2-3 9th inning.

The Banditos were finally able to unlock the LumberKings pitchers and they scored the only two runs of this game after play resumed.

Quad Cities got a pair of runs in the 8th on RBI singles from Michael Wielansky and Freúdis Nova. Neither team recorded an extra-base hit in this game.

Brett Daniels allowed three hits, walked five, and struck out seven over 5.2 shutout innings. Layne Henderson got the final out of the 6th with a groundball and then struck out the first two men he faced in the 7th. Joey Gonzalez completed the shutout with 2.1 innings, walking one in the process.

Now, on to the regularly scheduled contest.

Quad Cities 7, Clinton 3

The Banditos got off to a quick start and put the LumberKings away with three in the 7th. They pounded out 15 hits in this one.

Matt Ruppenthal went five innings and allowed an RBI single, walked four, and struck out six. José Bravo got the last four innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits (solo homer) and struck out four.

Freúdis Nova opened the scoring by ripping an RBI double in the 1st and he wound up scoring on an errant throw down to third after he stole the base. He doubled again in the 3rd and scored on Oscar Campos' infield single. Nova hit his third double of the game in the 7th and came home on a single from Jonathan Lacroix. Alex McKenna lashed a two-run double later in the 7th. Freúdis, McKenna, and César Salazar all finished with three hits on the evening while Lacroix and Carlos Machado had two hits apiece.

The River Bandits will head to Wisconsin for a quick two-game series. José Alberto Rivera will take on Reese Olson in game one, which will start at 6:35.

Staten Island 9, Tri-City 0

The ValleyCats were handed a beatdown to start the week.

Korey Lee went 2-4.

It... was not Jayson Schroeder's finest hour. Miguel Figueroa was the first man out of the Tri-City bullpen and he allowed a solo homer, walked three, and struck out three in 2.2 innings. Christian Mejías took over for four innings and he allowed three runs on four hits, walked two, and struck out seven. Michael Horrell worked around a couple of hits to throw a scoreless 8th, striking out one.

Valente Bellozo takes the mound for game two. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

GCL Mets 9, GCL Astros 1

GCL home runs: None.

The Palm Beach 'Stros are still searching for their first win as the Mets went off for seven in the 2nd inning.

Rolando Espinosa scored their only run on a wild pitch in the 9th. Franklin Pinto was 2-2.

Kyle Serrano and Kevin Holcomb were roughed up in the first two innings. Heitor Tokar allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out five over 4.1 innings, and Elián Rodríguez allowed a run on three hits, walked one, and struck out two in three innings.

The Palm Beach 'Stros will try for that first win again at noon Eastern when they take on the Cardinals.

DSL Astros 8, DSL Dodgers Bautista 0

The Dominican 'Stros went off in the middle innings to blow this one open.

Meanwhile, four pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Danny Subero allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out one in three innings. Juan De Los Santos got a groundout and a couple of fly ball outs in a 1-2-3 4th. José Nodal allowed a hit, walked two, and struck out three in three innings, and Luis Vega completed the shutout by striking out three over two perfect innings.

Freddy Guilamo finished 3-4 and hit an RBI single in the 4th inning. At the bottom of the order, Andrés Monzón went 2-4 with a two-run triple, scored two runs, and stole a base (10). Omar Díaz was 2-5 and hit an RBI single out of the leadoff spot.

The Dominican 'Stros will have to complete a suspended game with the Marlins before moving on to the regularly scheduled game.

The E-Train started off with a bang and then had to stave off a late rally to get the win on Sunday.

Brandon Bielak turned in a bare minimum quality start, allowing seven hits (two-run homer) and walking four. Kit Scheetz was the first man out of the Round Rock bullpen and he allowed a solo homer, walked one, and struck out two in two innings. Felipe Paulino allowed two hits, one of which was a two-run homer, and struck out one in the 9th.

Kyle Tucker put the Express on the board with a grand slam in the 1st inning. A.J. Reed hit an RBI single in the 4th and then homered to lead off the 7th inning. Alex De Goti added an RBI single later in the 7th. Reed finished 3-4 on the night.

Framber Valdez will face Zach Lovvorn in game three of this series. First pitch is at 7:05.

The Hooks scored first, but the Sod Poodles went off and buried them with five in the 4th to take a 9-2 lead.

Carson LaRue was roughed up in his 3.2 innings and I'll leave it at that. Carlos Sanabria got the final out of the 4th and two outs in the 5th, all via strikeout; he allowed two runs (one earned), a hit, and walked three in the process. Colin McKee walked one and struck out one in 1.1 innings, and Riley Ferrell allowed a hit and struck out two over two scoreless. Ferrell was making his first appearance since being returned to the organization from the Marlins, who selected him in the Rule 5 draft in the offseason.

Bryan de la Cruz led off the game with a homer and Ronnie Dawson scored on a wild pitch later in the 1st. Osvaldo Duarte led off the 5th with a homer and Abraham Toro launched a solo shot in the 7th. De La Cruz went 3-5 on the evening and also smacked a two-run double in the 8th.

The Hooks will start a three-game series in Frisco at 7:05. Brandon Bailey will face Edgar Arredondo.

Fayetteville 8, Myrtle Beach 4

One swing of the bat swung the momentum of this game in Fayetteville's favor.

J.P. France went five innings and allowed two hits, one of which was a solo homer, walked one, and struck out four. Jojanse Torres and Jacob Billingsley pitched two innings apiece with varying results. Torres didn't have his best stuff as he allowed three runs on three hits (two-run homer) and walked three. Billingsley struck out three in a perfect outing to earn the save.

The Woodpeckers got on the board first in the 1st thanks to a pair of sac flies from Corey Julks and Jake Adams. Jonathan Arauz led off the 2nd with a homer.

Chandler Taylor thought that he had a grand slam in the 5th and apparently the ball looked to have landed in fair territory, but it was ruled foul, he struck out, he wasn't happy, and his night ended early after he was... ordered to leave the game.

Fayetteville got their slam in the 7th when Adams sent one out onto the berm in left field. Scott Manea capped off the evening with a sac fly in the 8th.

Miguelangel Sierra and Jeremy Peña finished with two hits apiece on the evening.

The Woodpeckers will start a three-game series in Salem at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities and Clinton was suspended

Due to rain. Currently, it's a 0-0 ballgame with two outs in the bottom of the 7th.

Brett Daniels allowed three hits, walked five, and struck out seven over 5.2 shutout innings. Layne Henderson got the final out of the 6th with a groundball and then struck out the first two men he faced in the 7th.

Alex McKenna's single is currently Quad Cities' only hit in this game.

This game will be completed today at 5:00 and then the regularly scheduled game, which will last nine innings, will follow. Matt Ruppenthal was originally slated to face Albert Guerrero in the regularly scheduled game.

Tri-City 5, Aberdeen 3

The ValleyCats pounded out a season-high 14 hits to take the series.

Grae Kessinger opened the scoring with an RBI double in the 3rd and he came around to score on Zach Biermann's double. Aberdeen took the lead with a two-run double in the top of the 5th but Tri-City took control with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 5th on an Andrés Santana RBI infield single and a double from Kessinger. Luis Santana singled in the 6th and an error on the play allowed A.J. Lee to score. A.J. Lee finished 3-3, stealing a base and scoring three times. Luis Santana went 3-4, while Andrés Santana and Kessinger had two hits apiece.

Cole McDonald, Manny Ramirez, Hansel Paulino all pitched two innings. McDonald, in his Tri-City debut, allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out three. Ramirez allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits, walked three, and struck out two. Paulino struck out four in a perfect outing, and Julio Robaina allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out four over the final three innings to earn the save.

Jayson Schroeder will start the first of a three-game series in Staten Island. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

The Express got held in check on Sunday to slow down their recent rampage.

Corbin Martin went three innings and allowed four runs on seven hits, walked two, and struck out three. Ronel Blanco was the first man out of the Round Rock bullpen and he allowed five hits, one of which was a two-run homer. Blanco also walked one and struck out three in his 2.2 innings of work. Ralph Garza Jr. allowed a hit and fanned four over the final 2.1 innings.

Kyle Tucker opened the scoring by whacking a solo home run in the 1st inning. Round Rock got two more in the opening frame thanks to a Drew Ferguson sac fly and a Nick Tanielu single. Taylor Jones ripped an RBI double in the 3rd and A.J. Reed led off the 9th with a homer that cut the Bees' lead to one run. Tucker, Jones, and Aníbal Sierra all finished with two hits on the afternoon.

Brandon Bielak will start the series finale and he'll take on Matt Sandoval at 1:05 Mountain.

Amarillo 6, Corpus Christi 0

The Hooks, doing business as the Raspas like they do every Sunday, had nothing going for them on offense. As a result, they had to settle for the split and they couldn't take sole possession of first place in the Texas League South. All four teams are separated by one game.

Chas McCormick doubled and drew a couple of walks.

Brett Adcock went four innings and allowed six runs (four earned) on five hits, walked one, and struck out two. Layne Henderson struck out one in a 1-2-3 5th, and Enoli Paredes threw four perfect innings in his Texas League debut, striking out five.

Corpus Christi has Monday off as they embark on their last roadtrip of the first half. The first leg begins on Tuesday with the opener of a three-game series against the Arkansas Travelers.

Well, they didn't lose in walk-off fashion, but the Woodpeckers got burned by another late rally from the Blue Rocks. Wilmington scored three in the bottom of the 8th to take the lead in this one.

J.P. France allowed two runs on three hits, walked two, and struck out four in six innings of work. César Rosado threw a scoreless 7th but everything unraveled on him in the 8th as he only got one out and left the bases for Leovanny Rodríguez, who couldn't get him out of the predicament. Rosado allowed a hit, walked two, struck out two, and all three of the runners that Leovanny inherited were all charged to him. Leovanny got the last two outs of the 8th, one via strikeout, but not before he allowed a go-ahead bases-clearing double.

Fayetteville's three runs came via the solo homer. Bryan de la Cruz led off the game with one, Marty Costes smacked one in the 4th, and Michael Papierski went deep to lead off the 6th. Papierski, Costes, and Jonathan Arauz all finished 2-4.

The Woodpeckers will start a three-game set with Myrtle Beach at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 5, Kane County 3

The Banditos' bats came alive after a rain delay. Also, Cedar Rapids' split in their doubleheader with Peoria resulted in the Banditos clinching a playoff berth. Their magic number to clinch the division is now down to two.

José Bravo pitched six innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits, walked four, and struck out five. Joey Gonzalez came on after play resumed and he shut the Cougars down, allowing two hits and striking out five over the final three innings.

Freúdis Nova ripped an RBI double in the 4th to put Quad Cities on the board. With two outs in the 7th, Jeremy Peña kept the inning alive by legging out an infield single. César Salazar got plunked and David Hensley legged out an infield single of his own to load the bases for Freúdis, who brought Peña in... by getting plunked. That prompted Kane County to make a pitching change and Michael Wielansky greeted new Cougars pitcher Wesley Rodriguez with a bases-clearing double that put the Banditos in the lead. Wielansky, Peña, and Hensley all finished with two hits on the evening.

The Banditos and Cougars will wrap up this series at 6:35.
