How did the Astros system close out June?

Fresno 8, Sacramento 7

Fresno home runs: Preston Tucker (13, solo in 7th), Tyler White (13, solo in 8th)

The Grizzlies got 4 runs in the first two innings against a rehabbing Madison Bumgarner. After struggling out of the gate, Fresno appears to have found their form

Colin Moran opened the scoring with a sac fly in the 1st inning. Fresno got to MadBum for 3 in the 2nd thanks to a Tony Kemp RBI single, a Tyler White sac fly, and a D.J. Fisher RBI double.

The Grizz scored one run in the 5th-8th innings: Max Stassi ripped an RBI double in the 5th. Kemp added another RBI single to his ledger in the 6th, then Preston Tucker and Tyler White whacked solo homers in the 7th and the 8th, respectively. Kemp (2B, 2 RBI, 2 R), Tucker (solo HR), and Alejandro Garcia (2 2B, 2 R) all finished 3-5.

Casey Coleman went 5.2 innings and allowed 6 runs on 11 hits (solo homer), walked 1, and struck out 4. Tyson Perez pitched 2 innings and allowed a run (inherited runner charged to him) on 2 hits and fanned 2. Kevin Comer got a 4-out save, allowing 2 hits and striking out 2.

Dean Deetz faces Tyler Beede in game 2 of the series. First pitch is at 7:05 Pacific.

Northwest Arkansas 8, Corpus Christi 7


W- Richard Lovelady (1-0)
L- Ryan Thompson (0-2, 0-3 season)

CC home runs: J.D. Davis (19, 2-run in 5th)

The Hooks dropped another one-run game to drop this series in Springdale.

Corpus got a pair in the 1st on a J.D. Davis RBI single and a sac fly from Jon Singleton. Davis grounded into a force out in the 3rd inning and an error on the play allowed Drew Ferguson to score. Ferguson walked to lead off the 5th and Davis smacked a 2-run homer. Jason Martin added a 2-run double later in the inning.

Ferguson (3 R), Kyle Tucker (2B, R), Davis, Jack Mayfield, Garrett Stubbs, and Martin (2-RBI 2B) all finished with 2 hits on the night.

Collin McHugh allowed 4 runs on 7 hits and walked 1 in the 1st inning. Josh James came on to throw 5 innings, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits, walking 2, and striking out 4. Ryan Thompson pitched 2.2 innings and allowed the winning run on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2.

Corpus Christi will look to avoid the sweep as Alex Winkelman gets the start. He'll take on Foster Griffin at 6:05.

Buies Creek 2, Potomac 1

W- Franklin Perez (4-2)
L- Luis Reyes (5-8)
S- Ryan Hartman (1, 2 season)

BC home runs: None.

The Carolina Stros scored their 2 runs in the 1st and got shut out the rest of the way, but Franklin Perez and Ryan Hartman picked them up.

Perez allowed just 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3 over 5 shutout innings. Hartman threw the final 4 innings and allowed a run on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5.

Yordan Alvarez opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st. Two batters later, Taylor Jones ripped an RBI double. Jones and Ryne Birk both finished 3-4 on the night.

Hector Perez takes on Nolan Sanburn in game 2 of this series. First pitch is at 6:00 Eastern.

Burlington 4, Quad Cities 3

W- Erik Manoah (3-5)
L- Carson LaRue (8-3)

QC home runs: Josh Rojas (1, solo in 5th), Ronnie Dawson (8, solo in 6th)

The Banditos scored in more innings than the Bees, but Burlington's one four-run inning topped Quad Cities' three one-run innings.

Josh Rojas led off the 5th with his first homer as a pro. Ronnie Dawson went 2-4 and smacked a solo homer in the 6th inning. Dawson doubled to lead off the 9th and scored on a Daz Cameron single.

Carson LaRue went 5 innings and allowed 4 runs on 5 hits (3-run homer), walked 1, and struck out 3. Ronel Blanco tagged in for 3 innings and allowed 2 hits while striking out 4.

Cionel Perez starts game 2 of this series. First pitch is at 6:30.

Tri-City 1, Connecticut 0 before play was suspended

Due to rain. This game will continue at a later date.

Kristian Trompiz opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 4th inning. Carlos Hiraldo allowed 2 hits and struck out 4 over the first 4 innings.

Patrick Sandoval will start the first of a 3-game series with Staten Island. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

Johnson City 7, Greeneville 3

W- Alvaro Seijas (1-0)
L- Cole Watts (0-1)

Greeneville home runs: Adrian Tovalin (1, solo in 8th)

The Appy Cardinals used a pair of 3-run innings to take this game and the series.

Adrian Tovalin opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st, and Wilson Amador hit an RBI single of his own in the 2nd inning. Tovalin launched the first homer of his pro career, a solo shot, in the 8th. He and Roman Garcia both went 2-4 on the evening.

Cole Watts hit the first two batters he faced, then issued two straight walks to bring in Johnson City's first run. He allowed two more runs on a sac fly and a single. Hansel Paulino allowed a run on 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4 in 5.2 innings. Austin Kerns pitched the 7th and allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 2 hits and walked 1. Willy Collado worked around a double and a walk to throw a scoreless 8th, striking out 2.

The Appy Astros will start a 3-game series with the Kingsport Mets to begin a new month. First pitch of game 1 is at 6:00 Eastern.

GCL Astros 4, GCL Nationals 0

W- Francisco Villegas (1-0, 2-0 season)
L- Nelson Galindez (0-1)

GCL home runs: Carlos Machado (1, solo in 6th)

Three pitchers combined to throw a shutout.

Juan Pablo Lopez and Francisco Villegas both threw 4 shutout frames. Lopez allowed 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2, while Villegas allowed just 1 hit and fanned 7. Carlos Pimental struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 9th.

Enmanuel Valdez opened the scoring with an RBI double in the 3rd and scored on a Carlos Machado single. Machado launched a solo homer in the 6th, the first home run of his career. Jose Benjamin tripled in the 8th and scored on the ensuing error. Machado (solo HR, 2 RBI) and Orlando Marquez (2B) both had 2 hits on the day.

DSL Rays1 3, DSL Astros Blue 2

W- Jose Alejandro (1-0)
L- Freylin Garcia (0-3)

Blue home runs: None.

As the old saying goes.... turnabout is fair play.

Both Blue team runs came off errors; Ronaldo Urdaneta scored the first run of the day in the 1st and Leonardo Gonzalez scored on another gaffe in the 7th. Urdaneta and Yeuris Ramirez both went 2-4.

Renny Ugarte allowed a run on a double play, walked 4, and struck out 2 in 5 innings of work. Freylin Garcia went 3.1 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3.

DSL Rays2 10, DSL Astros Orange 1

W- Rodolfo Sanchez (2-0)
L- Fabricio Reina (0-1)

Orange home runs: None.

Um... safe to say that the Rays 2 didn't take kindly to getting no-hit on Friday.

Ramiro Rodriguez went 2-3 with a double and scored Team Orange's only run on an error in the 8th.

Mauricio Santana allowed a hit and struck out 3 over 2 scoreless. The guys behind him didn't fare as well. Fabricio Reina was the first man out of the Orange team's bullpen and went 3.1 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 inherited runners charged to him) on 2 hits, walking 1, and striking out 4. Christian Mejias allowed 6 runs (3 inherited runners charged to him) on 4 hits, walked 4, and struck out 1 in 2 innings. Luis De Paula was next and he allowed a run on 2 hits and walked 1 in 1.1 innings. Gustavo Almonte issued a walk and got the final out of the 9th inning.
