Fresno 11, Reno 5

W- Kent Emanuel (1-0)
L- Jake Buchanan (0-1)
S- Reymin Guduan (1)

Fresno home runs: Tim Federowicz (1, solo in 6th), Jack Mayfield (3, 2-run in 7th), Jon Kemmer (2, 2-run in 9th)

The Grizzlies put up crooked numbers in all of the innings in which they scored to take their first series of 2018. Things got a little interesting late, but they were able to emerge victoriously.

Kyle Tucker singled to start the 4th inning and that was the spark for a 5-run inning. Little Tuck moved to 3rd on a Tyler White double and scored Fresno's first run on an A.J. Reed single. Tim Federowicz followed by ripping an RBI double and Jon Kemmer added a sac fly. Federowicz moved to 3rd on a Jack Mayfield double and scored on an Alejandro Garcia groundout. Mayfield scored the final run of the inning by stealing home.

Federowicz led off the 6th with a homer and Tucker drew a bases-loaded walk later in the inning. Super Jack smacked a 2-run homer in the 7th and Kemmer capped off the day with a 2-run homer in the 9th. Everyone in the lineup recorded a hit; Reed, Federowicz, Kemmer, and Mayfield all had two.

Kent Emanuel turned in five solid innings; the one run he allowed came on a solo homer hit by Cody Decker in the 2nd. Emanuel allowed three other hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. Buddy Boshers allowed a hit and fanned 2 over 2 scoreless. Andrew Thome... had an outing to forget. He only recorded one out in the 8th and also served up Decker's second homer of the day, one of five hits and two of the four runs he allowed. Reymin Guduan picked Thome up and was able to close the game without incident. In 1.2 innings, Guduan walked 2 and fanned 2.

The Grizzlies' home opener is also their first Taco Tuesday of 2018. The 4-game series with Tacoma starts at 7:05 Pacific. Mike Hauschild will take on Christian Bergman.

Arkansas 8, Corpus Christi 3

W- Nathan Bannister (1-0)
L- Cionel Perez (0-1)
S- Darin Gillies (1)

CC home runs: Carmen Benedetti (1, solo in 5th)

The Travs jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the 2nd inning and put the Hooks away with three more runs in the 8th inning.

Taylor Jones ripped a leadoff double in the 4th and scored Corpus Christi's first run on a Ryne Birk single. Carmen Benedetti smacked a solo homer in the 5th and added an RBI single to his ledger in the 9th inning. Benedetti, Jones, Yuli Gurriel, and Lorenzo Quintana all finished with two hits on the night. Myles Straw has drawn two walks in all five games he's played this season.

Cionel Perez allowed 4 runs on 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 1 in 4 innings. Alex Winkelman tagged in for 3.2 innings and allowed 4 runs (1 inherited runner charged to him) on 4 hits, walked 6, and struck out 3. Riley Ferrell allowed a hit, walked one, and got the final out of the 8th with a strikeout.

Corpus will look to avoid the sweep as Josh James gets the start. He'll face Andrew Moore at 11:00 AM.

Buies Creek 12, Lynchburg 5

W- Corbin Martin (1-0)
L- Jake Paulson (0-1)

BC home runs: None.

The Carolina Stros busted this game open with four in the 4th and six more in the 5th to take an 11-1 lead.

Corbin Martin went 4 innings and allowed an unearned run on an error, a double, walked 2, and struck out 7. Ronel Blanco was the first man out of the Buies Creek bullpen and allowed a 2-run double, walked 2, and struck out 1 in the 5th. Brett Adcock came on for the final 4 innings and allowed 2 runs on 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6.

Ronnie Dawson opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 3rd inning. Buies Creek turned a bases-loaded situation into 4 runs in the 4th and didn't need a hit to drive in any of them. Patrick Mathis got plunked with the bases loaded, Kristian Trompiz followed by walking in a run, Osvaldo Duarte scored on a passed ball, and Josh Rojas drew another bases-loaded walk. Duarte smacked a 2-run double in the 5th and eventually scored on an error. Mathis scored on a Dawson groundout and Abraham Toro ripped a 2-run double. Toro drove in the Carolina Stros' final run of the evening with a sac fly in the 7th. Troy Sieber and Chas McCormick both finished 2-4.

Abdiel SaldaƱa faces Sam Hentges in game 2 of this series. First pitch is at 6:30 Eastern.

Quad Cities 11, Kane County 1

W- Yohan Ramirez (1-0)
L- Cole Stapler (0-1)
S- Cristian Javier (1)

QC home runs: J.J. Matijevic 2 (2; solo in 3rd, 2-run in 7th), Corey Julks (1, 2-run in 6th)

The Banditos won their home opener in a laugher, thanks to a 6-run 7th.

Yohan Ramirez and Cristian Javier turned in fine performances on the mound; Ramirez allowed an unearned run on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 7 in 5 innings of work. Javier finished it off with 4 scoreless, allowing 3 hits, walking 2, and striking out 6.

Adrian Tovalin doubled to start the 2nd. He advanced to third when Jake Adams flew out and scored the first run of the game on an errant pickoff attempt to first base. J.J. Matijevic whacked a solo homer in the 3rd, and Marcos Almonte hit an RBI single in the 4th. Corey Julks smacked a 2-run homer in the 6th.

Tovalin drew a walk to lead off the 7th, and once again, an errant pickoff throw, this time targeting him, allowed him to advance on the basepaths. Jake Adams eventually walked and Bryan De La Cruz followed by smacking a 2-run double. Mike Papierski joined him on the bases by drawing a walk. Almonte and Cody Bohanek both struck out, but a wild pitch allowed De La Cruz and Papierski to advance, and then Julks reached on an error that allowed both of them to score. Matijevic capped things off with a 2-run blast. Matijevic finished 3-4, while both of De La Cruz's hits were doubles.

2017 Astros first-rounder J.B. Bukauskas will make his season debut at 6:35 and he will be opposed by Jeff Bain.
