Fresno 8, Albuquerque 5

Fresno home runs: A.J. Reed (21, 3-run in 7th)

Jake Marisnick and A.J. Reed carried the Grizzlies to a victory in New Mexico to start the weekend.

Jake doubled to lead off the game and Reed opened the scoring by bringing him in with a sac fly. One batter later, Taylor Jones ripped an RBI double. Reed brought Jake in again in the 3rd with an RBI double. Jake walked to start the 5th. He then stole second and scored on a Garrett Stubbs double. Stubbs came around to score on a base hit from Tyler White. Jake tripled to start the 7th and White got a free pass to first to bring up Reed, who launched a homer for the last Fresno scoring play.

Jake finished 4-4, a homer shy of the cycle, and scored four runs. Reed and Jones had two hits apiece.

Brock Dykxhoorn went six innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits, walked one, and struck out three. Dean Deetz struck out two in a 1-2-3 7th inning. Ken Giles got one out in the 8th via strikeout; he allowed a run on two hits and walked one. Buddy Boshers allowed a run on two hits and walked one in 1.2 innings.

Brady Rodgers will get the start in game two of this series. He'll take on a rehabbing Chad Bettis at 5:05 Mountain.

Corpus Christi 4, Midland 1

CC home runs: None.

Corpus got out to a quick start and kept the RockHounds in check on Friday.

Stephen Wrenn hit a one-out single in the opening inning and Randy César joined him on the bases by drawing a walk. One batter later, Abraham Toro opened the scoring by smacking a two-run triple. Ryne Birk singled to lead off the 2nd and he ended up scoring when Wrenn grounded into a force out. Wrenn and Lorenzo Quintana successfully pulled off a double steal in which Quintana took home. Wrenn finished 2-4 and the stolen base gives him 33 on the season.

Ryan Hartman allowed a run on four hits, walked three, and struck out three in five innings of work. Alex Winkelman was the first man out of the Corpus bullpen and he turned in three scoreless innings, allowing three hits, walking two, and striking out one. Erasmo Pinales worked around a hit to close out the game, striking out the side in the 9th to do so.

Corbin Martin takes on Brian Howard at 7:00.

Buies Creek 6, Salem 1

BC home runs: Jake Adams (4, 12 season; 2-run in 4th)

The Carolina Stros offense came alive just in time for them to take this series from the Red Sox.

Meanwhile on the mound, Tyler Ivey turned in the best start of his pro career. He allowed a run on three hits, walked one, and struck out a career-high 13 in seven innings of work. Yohan Ramirez finished it off by allowing a hit and striking out two over the final two innings.

Ronnie Dawson led off the 2nd with a base hit; he stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored the first run of the evening when Jake Adams grounded into a force out. Adams whacked a two-run homer in the 4th. Dawson doubled in the 6th and scored on a Cody Bohanek sac fly/double play. Bryan de la Cruz capped off the evening with a two-run single in the 8th. He and Dawson (2B, 3 R, SB) both finished 2-4 on the evening.

The Lone Star Series in North Carolina fires up once again as Buies Creek welcomes the Down East Wood Ducks to Campbell University. First pitch is at 5:00 Eastern.

South Bend 7, Quad Cities 2

W- Brendon Little (4-7)
L- Jairo Solís (1-4)
S- Ben Hecht (5)

QC home runs: None.

It all snowballed for the Banditos late.

Jairo Solís wasn't terrible, but he had to take the loss. He allowed two runs on seven hits, walked two, and struck out four in 5.2 innings. Luis Garcia was the first man out of the Quad Cities bullpen and went 1.1 innings, allowing three runs on three hits (two-run homer), walking two, and striking out one. Humberto Castellanos got two outs in the 8th, but not before he allowed two runs on two hits and walked three. Brendan Feldmann struck out three over 1.1 perfect frames.

Jonathan Lacroix put the Banditos on the board with an RBI single in the 4th. Logan Mattix doubled to lead off the 8th and scored when Seth Beer grounded into a force out.

Quad Cities will start a three-game set with the West Michigan Whitecaps tonight at 6:35.

Staten Island 7, Tri-City 2

L- Edgardo Sandoval (0-1, 0-2 season)
S- Frank German (1)

TC home runs: None.

A pair of three-run innings from the Yankees put the ValleyCats behind the eight-ball.

Carlos Machado opened the scoring by ripping an RBI double in the 2nd inning. Enmanuel Valdez finished 2-4 with an RBI single in the 5th. Ramiro Rodriguez finished with a couple of base hits.

Alex House made his season debut and he worked around a hit and a walk to throw a scoreless 1st, striking out the side. Edgardo Sandoval went two innings and allowed three runs on four hits, walked two, and struck out three. Brett Daniels was next and he allowed three unearned runs on two hits (two-run homer) and struck out four in three innings, and Jacob Billinsgley allowed a run on two hits and struck out two.

The ValleyCats will continue their series in the Forgotten Borough at 7:00 Eastern.

DSL Astros 5, DSL Dodgers Robinson 0

L- Andrew Budier (2-3)
S- Wender Oberto (1)

DSL home runs: None.

The Academy's bats came alive late and their pitchers dominated the Robinson team's hitters.

Jojanse Torres allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out seven over five shutout innings and Wender Oberto completed the shutout with four no-hit innings, walking two and striking out three.

Javier Bermúdez walked with one out in the 6th. He proceeded to steal second and scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch. Jose Mendoza eventually singled and scored on a Junior Marte double. Rolando Espinosa hit a sac fly in the 7th, and Ricardo Toro hit a two-run single in the 8th.
