Nashville 3, Round Rock 1
W- Taylor Hearn (1-1)
L- Forrest Whitley (0-1)
S- Nick Gardewine (1)
RR home runs: Derek Fisher (4, solo in 5th)
Well, Forrest Whitley and Cy Sneed pitched well enough to keep the Express in this game, but the offense went MIA.
D.J. Fisher went 2-4 and his solo homer in the 5th was the lone Round Rock run.
In his 2019 debut, Whitley allowed two runs on four hits (solo homer), walked one, and struck out seven in five innings. Sneed pitched the final four innings and the one run he allowed came on a homer in the 9th. Sneed allowed two other hits and struck out two.
Brady Rodgers will take on Ariel Jurado in game two of this series. First pitch is at 7:05.
Frisco 11, Corpus Christi 4
W- Pedro Payano (1-0)
L- José Hernández-Urquidy (1-1)
CC home runs: Ronnie Dawson (1, solo in 1st)
An error in the 4th led to a three-run homer for Frisco that gave them the lead... and it only got worse from there.
Ronnie Dawson was the lone bright spot on offense as went 3-5, leading off the game with a homer and then ripping a couple of RBI doubles. Aníbal Sierra had an RBI single in the 2nd and scored on both of Dawson's doubles.
José Hernández-Urquidy's second start didn't exactly go as well as his first. He and Gabriel Valdez both threw four innings and they both got knocked around and let's just leave it at that.
Carson LaRue will get the start as the Hooks look to avoid the sweep. He'll face Wei-Chih Huang at 7:05.
Fayetteville 7, Frederick 2
W- Cristian Javier (1-0)
L- Diogenes Almengo (1-1)
Fayetteville home runs: Chandler Taylor (1, solo in 9th)
The Woodpeckers broke a 2-2 tie in emphatic fashion with five runs in the 9th.
Bryan Abreu turned in a solid debut as he allowed two runs on three hits, walked two, and struck out seven in five innings of work. Cristian Javier finished things off by allowing two hits, walking one, and striking out seven over the last four innings.
Chandler Taylor opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 2nd inning and Seth Beer drove in another run with a sac fly in the 3rd. Taylor put Fayetteville in front when he launched a solo homer with one out in the 9th... and that's when the floodgates opened.
Jonathan Arauz and Alfredo Angarita followed by drawing walks and Bryan de la Cruz brought Arauz in with a base hit. Scott Manea legged out an infield single to load the bases for Beer, who came through with a two-run single. Manea scored the final run of the night on a Colton Shaver groundout. Manea and Beer both finished with three hits on the night.
Fayetteville looks for the sweep at 7:00 Eastern as Parker Mushinski takes the mound.
Quad Cities 2, Clinton 0
W- Austin Hansen (1-0)
L- Chris Vallimont (0-1)
S- Shawn Dubin (1)
QC home runs: None.
It's early, but it's looking like more of the same for Quad Cities' pitchers as they piled up the strikeouts in this one.
Austin Hansen and Shawn Dubin combined to strike out 20 LumberKings and neither of them issued a walk. Hansen allowed one hit and punched out a career-high 11 in five innings. Dubin ran into some trouble as Clinton loaded the bases on him in the 9th with three singles but he pulled himself together to escape the predicament and secure the victory. In four innings, Dubin allowed four hits and struck out nine.
Andy Piñeda opened the scoring with a sac fly in the 2nd and Jeremy Peña ripped an RBI double in the 3rd. Marty Costes and Trey Dawson both finished 2-4.
Nivaldo Rodríguez gets the start as the Banditos look for the sweep. He'll take on Josh Roberson at 6:30.
