RHP Ross Seaton (25)
Drafted in the third round as a compensation pick in 2008 out of Second Baptist High School in Houston, Seaton spent a large part of his 2014 season on the DL. In 16 games (7 starts) between Corpus Christi, Oklahoma City and a rehab stint in Kissimmee, he was 2-2 with a 4.20 ERA and a 1.500 WHIP.
1B Jon Singleton (23)
Originally drafted by the Phillies in the eighth round in 2009, Singleton came to the Astros in the Hunter Pence trade in July 2011. After spending the early part of the season in Oklahoma City, Singleton made his major league debut on June 4th. In 89 games, he is hitting .172/.292/.343.
RHP Juan Minaya (24)
Signed as a non-drafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2008, Minaya spent the majority of his season at Lancaster until a late season promotion to Corpus Christi. In a total of 35 games (one start), he was 2-3 with a 4.19 ERA and a 1.453 WHIP.

Originally drafted by Montreal in the 71st(!) round in 1969, Scott came to Houston in a June 1981 trade with the Cardinals. In 292 games played for the Astros from 1981 to 1984, he hit .249/.283/.320.
RHP Roger Mason (57)
Mason signed as a free agent with the Astros in February 1989 and pitched in only two games for the Astros that year. In one and a third innings pitched, he had a whopping 20.25 ERA and a 3.000 WHIP.
RHP Chris Holt (43)
Originally drafted by Houston in the third round in 1992, Holt pitched in 103 games (90 starts) for the Astros from 1996 to 2000 with a 21-42 record, a 4.51 ERA and a 1.456 WHIP before being traded to Detroit in December 2000.
C Mitch Meluskey (41)
A 12th round draft pick by Cleveland in 1992, Meluskey came to the Houston system in an April 1995 trade with Cleveland. He played in 135 games for the Astros from 1998 to 2000 before being included, along with fellow birthday boy Chris Holt, in a December 2000 trade to Detroit. He came back to play in 12 games for Houston again in 2003, signing as a free agent. All in all, he hit .287/.389/.465 for the Astros.

The RedHawks earned the split thanks to a couple of big 2-out hits and a combined 1-hitter from the pitching staff.
The story of the day would have to be Mike Foltynewicz. Let's just say that things got a little, uh.... testy on Twitter a couple of nights ago and leave it at that. The real story was his performance on the mound yesterday afternoon. He threw 6 innings and allowed 1 hit, a solo homer to Melky Mesa in the 3rd. The Storm Chasers only got 3 baserunners on him: Mesa's homer, and 2 walks (in the 1st and 4th). Foltynewicz struck out a career-high 12, including the final 6 batters he faced. He struck out everyone in Omaha's lineup except for Matt Fields. Paul Clemens tagged in for 3 perfect innings, striking out 1 to close it out. Together, they retired the final 16 Omaha batters, and 20 of the final 21.
Robbie Grossman led off the 3rd inning with a single. He would advance to 2nd on a sac bunt from Ronald Torreyes, and Jon Singleton got on via an intentional walk soon after. They would both advance on a Domingo Santana groundout. A Gregorio Petit walk loaded the bases, and then Kiké Hernandez laced a 1-1 pitch down the right field line to open the scoring. Andy Simunic would follow up with an RBI single to give the RedHawks a 3-0 lead.
Grossman drew a walk to begin the 7th and would come all the way around to score on a Torreyes double. Torreyes moved to 3rd on Jon Singleton's groundout and wound up scoring the final run of the afternoon on a wild pitch from Donnie Joseph. He added another double in the top of the 9th. Torreyes, Hernandez, and Simunic all had 2-hit days, while Grossman scored twice.
The RedHawks are headed home to kick off a 4-game series with Memphis. Jake Buchanan will get the start against Tim Cooney in the opener. First pitch is at 7:05.

The Hooks took a 2-1 lead in the 4-game set as the bullpen effectively backed up the reigning Pitcher of the Month, Tommy Shirley, who was alright himself. Also, in his first game outside of the Appalachian League, Marc Wik stole the show. Three safeties topped the field goal.
Shirley threw 5.1 innings and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 3. Both runs came in the form of back-to-back homers from Kyle Gaedele (the grandnephew of Eddie Gaedel, the shortest baseball player ever) and Lee Orr (who's from Louise, the town after El Campo when you head south on 59) in the 3rd. All 3 hits that Shirley allowed went for extra-bases; Austin Hedges doubled off of him. He wasn't at his sharpest, but he was still effective enough.
Travis Ballew was the first man out of the Corpus bullpen and got the final 2 outs of the 6th without incident. He did serve up a home run to Yeison Asencio to begin the 7th, but shook that off to retire the side, striking out 2. Pat Urckfitz worked around a single and an error to throw a scoreless 8th, striking out 1. Jorge De Leon finished it up with a 1-2-3 9th, striking out Gaedele to end it.
The Hooks got deuces in 3 innings. Joe Sclafani started things off by reaching on an error in the 1st, advanced to 3rd on another error, and scored the first run of the game on an Andrew Aplin force out. Later in the inning, Jio Mier added an RBI single. After Mier grounded out to begin the 4th, the catchers reached; Tyler Heineman walked and advanced to 3rd on a René Garcia double. Heineman scored on Marc Wik's groundout, and Sclafani brought Garcia home with a single. Wik would go on to deposit a 2-run homer onto the berm in left field in the 6th for the Hooks' final 2 runs. That was his first homer since August 21, 2012, when he was playing with Greeneville. Nolan Fontana and Preston Tucker had 2 hits apiece. Aplin was the only member of the starting 9+1 to not have a hit, but he did get an RBI on the force out in the 1st.
In the series finale, it appears that the tandem system will be back online, according to the Hooks' game notes from yesterday. Matt Heidenreich and Brady Rodgers will take on Josh Geer at 7:10.

The JetHawks clawed their way back from an early 6-0 hole, but some missed opportunities prevented them from completing the comeback; they went 0-13 with runners in scoring position.
Lance McCullers only lasted 1.2 innings in this one, as he gave up 6 runs (5 earned) on 4 hits and walked 3. This was his first outing this season in which he failed to record a strikeout. Juan Minaya did an excellent job of picking McCullers up; he followed with 4.1 no-hit innings, walking 1 and striking out 7. Jamaine Cotton threw the final 2 innings and gave up a run on 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1.
After a lull in the 3rd in which neither team scored, the JetHawks went on a little 4-0 run over the second third of the game. They got on the board with a pair in the 2nd; after Teoscar Hernandez beat out a bunt single, he scored on a Carlos Correa triple. Correa wound up scoring on a sac fly from Dan Gulbransen. Danry Vasquez led off the 5th with a double and would score 2 groundouts later. Hernandez and Correa led off the 6th with singles. They'd advance to 2nd and 3rd on a Rio Ruiz groundout, which really had some potential. However, all that came of that situation was a Gulbransen groundout that scored Hernandez. Correa finished 3-4, while Hernandez was 2-4 with 2 runs scored; he's on a 4-game hitting streak, and he's posted multiple hits in 3 of those 4. Danry Vasquez finished 2-4 with a run scored; both of his hits were doubles, and it was his 2nd straight 2-hit night.
Forgot to mention this, but this is a battle for 1st in the California League South. With the loss, Lancaster is now 2 games behind Lake Elsinore. Game 2 features another intriguing pitching matchup, as Josh Hader will face off against Zach Eflin. First pitch is at 6:05 Pacific.

The River Bandits dropped the opener and were condemned to a 3rd straight loss as their bats were held in check. They only had 4 hits in this game; one of them was a solo homer by Chase McDonald (1) in the 5th. Brett Phillips led off the 6th by reaching on an error, and after advancing station-to-station, he would score on a Conrad Gregor fielder's choice. That run actually tied the game. However, the Kernels broke the tie with a 3-run top of the 8th.
Andrew Thurman went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. Chris Lee was saddled with the loss; he allowed 3 runs on 3 hits and walked 3 in 3 innings of work. Andrew Walter threw a scoreless 9th despite facing a bases-loaded situation. He allowed a pair of singles, walked 1, and struck out 2 in the frame.
The middle game of this series will be a morning/early afternoon game. Will there be a little OKC Matinee Magic in store for Quad Cities? Jandel Gustave will face Josue Montañez at 11 A.M.

In 15 games (14 starts at Oklahoma City) he was 3-7 with a 7.34 ERA and a 1.824 WHIP. In 10 games (9 starts) with Corpus Christi, he was 3-1 with a 4.77 ERA and a 1.226 WHIP.

Tuesday's Games
Here is the latest on the playoff picture.
Oklahoma City over Nashville 5-4
The RedHawks got to pop the bubbly on Tuesday night at home as they clinched both a playoff berth and a division title. Eric Berger (5IP 2H 1R BB 4SO) was terrific in his spot start, allowing only a solo home run, and was rewarded with the win. Jose Cisnero (1IP 2H 2R BB 2SO) and Jason Stoffel (2IP 2H 1R 2SO) made things a little too interesting, but Wade LeBlanc and Jorge de Leon combined in a perfect ninth to preserve the one run lead. George Springer (2x3 BB) got the scoring started in the fourth as he led off with a triple and scored on a Brandon Laird (2x4 R) single. A Carlos Perez bases-loaded walk and a Marc Krauss sac fly brought home two more runs in the frame. One more scored in the fifth on a Japhet Amador (3x4 R) RBI single. Jimmy Paredes scored the final run in the seventh as he singled, stole second, and advanced to third and scored on a pair of ground outs.
Frisco over Corpus Christi 5-1
David Rollins (7H 3R/2ER BB 5SO HR) tossed the first six innings and took the loss. He was followed by a perfect seventh from Cameron Lamb, but T.J. Geith allowed two runs on three hits in the ninth. The Hooks were held to three hits, including an RBI double in the first from Erik Castro. Ronald Torreyes went two-for-four and scored the lone Hooks run.
Lancaster over Lake Elsinore 7-2
Aaron West (5IP 8H 2R 9SO) improved his record to 9-8 for the season with the win. He was followed by two scoreless innings from Tommy Shirley and one each from Gera Sanchez and Travis Ballew. The JetHawks did the bulk of their scoring in the first inning, chasing out Lake Elsinore starter Justin Hancock after only two-thirds of an inning. Four singles (including a Joe Sclafani two-RBI single), three walks, a stolen base, wild pitch and a fielding error gave the 'Hawks a 5-0 lead in the first. RBI singles in the fifth and eighth from Chris Epps (1x3 BB 2RBI) and Carlos Perdomo accounted for the final two runs. M.P. Cokinos went three-for-four and scored two runs.
Quad Cities over Burlington 6-5
Daniel Minor got the start, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out three over four innings. Juan Minaya threw the next four innings and got the win. The only run Minaya allowed was a solo home run (one of only two hits) as he struck out the side in three of his four innings, for a total of nine strikeouts. Andrew Walter got his first save for Quad Cities with a perfect ninth. In the first inning, Tony Kemp took one for the team and got on base on a hit by pitch and was followed by a Austin Elkins walk and a Teoscar Hernandez (2x4 2B 2R) single. Michael Feliz got the start, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk with eight strikeouts over five innings and was followed by two scoreless innings from Tyler Brunnemann. J.D. Osborne allowed the tying run across in the eighth and was charged with the blown save. Charles Basford (3.2IP 3BB 5SO), Krishawn Holley (3IP 3H 2BB SO) and Gonzalo Sanudo (1IP 3SO) provided scoreless relief. Holley got the win and Sanudo his sixth save for Tri-City. The 'Cats scored three in the fourth on a Tyler White solo homer, a Ronnie Mitchell (3x7) RBI double and a Chan Moon sac fly scoring Jon Kemmer. They didn't hit the run column again until the top of the 16th when this happened:
Greeneville over Bluefield 2-1
Francis Ramirez pitched the first four and two-thirds innings, allowing only one unearned run on two hits while striking out seven. Sebastian Kessay, Jose Montero and Jordan Mills kept Bluefield from scoring the rest of the way. Greeneville scored one in the fourth on a Juan Santana RBI double. In the eighth, Marc Wik (2x3 2B BB 2R) walked, advanced to second on a balk, advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored on an Alfredo Gonzalez single.
GCL Astros over GCL Tigers 13-2
Reymin Guduan (5IP 3H 0R BB 4SO) gave the Astros a good start and Brett Clements gave them a good finish, but in between Javier Lozano, Samil de los Santos and Devonte German all struggled. If you insist on looking, here's the full boxscore. Back-to-back doubles from Luis Reynoso (2x3 BB) and Jose Fernandez (2x4) in the third led to the first Astros run. Reynoso also scored in the sixth on a Jacob Nottingham sac fly.

The RedHawks got to pop the bubbly on Tuesday night at home as they clinched both a playoff berth and a division title. Eric Berger (5IP 2H 1R BB 4SO) was terrific in his spot start, allowing only a solo home run, and was rewarded with the win. Jose Cisnero (1IP 2H 2R BB 2SO) and Jason Stoffel (2IP 2H 1R 2SO) made things a little too interesting, but Wade LeBlanc and Jorge de Leon combined in a perfect ninth to preserve the one run lead. George Springer (2x3 BB) got the scoring started in the fourth as he led off with a triple and scored on a Brandon Laird (2x4 R) single. A Carlos Perez bases-loaded walk and a Marc Krauss sac fly brought home two more runs in the frame. One more scored in the fifth on a Japhet Amador (3x4 R) RBI single. Jimmy Paredes scored the final run in the seventh as he singled, stole second, and advanced to third and scored on a pair of ground outs.
Frisco over Corpus Christi 5-1
David Rollins (7H 3R/2ER BB 5SO HR) tossed the first six innings and took the loss. He was followed by a perfect seventh from Cameron Lamb, but T.J. Geith allowed two runs on three hits in the ninth. The Hooks were held to three hits, including an RBI double in the first from Erik Castro. Ronald Torreyes went two-for-four and scored the lone Hooks run.
Lancaster over Lake Elsinore 7-2
Aaron West (5IP 8H 2R 9SO) improved his record to 9-8 for the season with the win. He was followed by two scoreless innings from Tommy Shirley and one each from Gera Sanchez and Travis Ballew. The JetHawks did the bulk of their scoring in the first inning, chasing out Lake Elsinore starter Justin Hancock after only two-thirds of an inning. Four singles (including a Joe Sclafani two-RBI single), three walks, a stolen base, wild pitch and a fielding error gave the 'Hawks a 5-0 lead in the first. RBI singles in the fifth and eighth from Chris Epps (1x3 BB 2RBI) and Carlos Perdomo accounted for the final two runs. M.P. Cokinos went three-for-four and scored two runs.
Quad Cities over Burlington 6-5
Daniel Minor got the start, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out three over four innings. Juan Minaya threw the next four innings and got the win. The only run Minaya allowed was a solo home run (one of only two hits) as he struck out the side in three of his four innings, for a total of nine strikeouts. Happy Birthday - 9/18
RHP Ross Seaton (23)
Drafted in the third round as a compensation pick in 2008 out of Second Baptist High School in Houston, Seaton spent most of the 2012 season repeating the AA level at Corpus Christi (with a handful of starts in Oklahoma City) and fine-tuning his skills. Seaton really appears to have turned the corner in his development. Despite a career high 169.1 innings pitched, he actually got stronger toward the end of the season, ending it going 2-0 with a 1.56 ERA and a 0.865 WHIP in his final three starts. For the season, he was 8-9 with a 3.93 ERA and a 1.281 WHIP.
1B Jon Singleton (21)
Originally drafted by the Phillies in the eighth round in 2009, Singleton came to the Astros in the Hunter Pence trade in July 2011. In 131 games for Corpus Christi this season, he hit .284/.396/.497 with 27 doubles, four triples, 21 home runs, 94 runs scored and 79 RBI. And he's just turning 21. Be still, my beating heart!
RHP Juan Minaya (22)
Signed as a non-drafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2008, this is Minaya's fourth season in the Astros organization. In 17 appearances (2 starts) for Tri-City this season, Minaya was 2-2 with a 4.66 ERA and a 1.391 WHIP.

Mason signed as a free agent with the Astros in February 1989 and pitched in only two games for the Astros that year. In one and a third innings pitched, he had a whopping 20.25 ERA and a 3.000 WHIP.

Originally drafted by Houston in the third round in 1992, Holt pitched in 103 games (90 starts) for the Astros from 1996 to 2000 with a 21-42 record, a 4.51 ERA and a 1.456 WHIP before being traded to Detroit in December 2000.
C Mitch Meluskey (39)
A 12th round draft pick by Cleveland in 1992, Meluskey came to the Houston system in an April 1995 trade with Cleveland. He played in 135 games for the Astros from 1998 to 2000 before being included, along with fellow birthday boy Chris Holt, in a December 2000 trade to Detroit. He came back to play in 12 games for Houston again in 2003, signing as a free agent. All in all, he hit .287/.389/.465 for the Astros.

I forget that he's still this young since 2011 was his fourth season in the Astros minor league system. Drafted in the 3rd round as a compensation pick in 2008 out of Second Baptist High School in Houston, Seaton spent the season in Corpus Christi where he improved on his 2010 numbers from Lancaster, finishing the season 4-9 with a 5.23 ERA and a 1.387 WHIP. He received Texas League pitcher of the week honors twice in 2011.
