Sacramento 9, Fresno 3

Fresno home runs: None.

The RiverCats went off after Charlie Morton finished his first rehab start.

The one run that Morton allowed in his 2 innings came on a solo homer hit by Justin Ruggiano in the 1st. He allowed one other hit, walked 1, and fanned 1. Trent Thornton was the first man out of the Fresno bullpen and unfortunately had to bear the brunt of Sacramento's onslaught. In 4 innings, Thornton allowed 8 runs (7 earned) on 9 hits (2-run homer), walked 2, and struck out 5. Ashur Tolliver stopped the bleeding with 2 scoreless, allowing 2 hits and walking 1. Aaron West threw a 1-2-3 9th.

Preston Tucker finished 2-4 and hit an RBI single in the 3rd. Tony Kemp went 3-4 with a 2-run single in the 5th.

Mike Hauschild starts game 2 of this series against Joan Gregorio at 7:05 Pacific.

Corpus Christi 6, Frisco 5 in 11 innings

CC home runs: Jon Singleton (13, solo in 2nd), Kyle Tucker (5, 14 season; solo in 7th)

Frisco got 3 in the 8th to take the lead, but the Hooks pulled themselves together to tie it in the bottom half and walked off with the win.

Akeem Bostick went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, walked 1, and fanned 4. Alex Winkelman tagged in for 3 innings and allowed 3 unearned runs on 4 hits and struck out 5. Andrew Walter allowed 2 hits and struck out 3 over 2 scoreless innings, and Andrew Thome struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 11th.

Jon Singleton put Corpus on the board with a solo homer to start the bottom of the 2nd. Trent Woodward walked to start the 3rd inning and came around to score on a Drew Ferguson single. Ferguson, who advanced to 2nd on the ensuing error, scored when Kyle Tucker smacked a ground-rule double. Little Tuck struck again in the 7th when he took Shane McCain deep for a solo blast. Jason Martin beat out a double play attempt in the 8th and an error on the play allowed him to advance to 3rd. He scored the tying run on a Jamie Ritchie groundout.

Tony Nuñez walked to begin the 11th inning and moved to 3rd on a Ferguson single. Ferguson stole 2nd to eliminate the double play possibility. Tucker popped out, and J.D. Davis received an intentional pass to load the bases. Singleton drove in the Hooks' first run... and he drove in their last run with a sac fly to win the game.

Ferguson finished 3-5 on the evening, and the stolen base in the 11th gives him 15 on the year. Little Tuck (2B, solo HR, 2 RBI) and Jack Mayfield (SB) had 2 hits apiece.

Rogelio Armenteros takes on Pedro Payano in game 2 of this series. First pitch is at 7:05.

Winston-Salem 6, Buies Creek 5

BC home runs: None.

The Carolina Stros scored a pair in the top of the 8th to take the lead, but the Dash managed to tie the game in the bottom of the 8th, and they ended up walking off with the win.

Myles Straw singled to lead off the game and scored the first run of the evening when Anthony Hermelyn grounded out. Straw walked to begin the 3rd and scored on a sac fly from Jake Rogers. He hit a 1-out single in the 5th and scored on Hermelyn's single. Hermelyn ripped a ground-rule double to begin the 8th and came home on Randy César's RBI single. Spencer Johnson followed with an infield single and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

Ryne Birk finished 4-5, while Johnson turned in a 3-5 night. Straw (3 R), Hermelyn (2B, 2 RBI, R), and César (RBI) all had 2 hits on the evening.

Framber Valdez allowed 3 unearned runs (1 inherited) on 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 2 in 3 innings. Howie Brey inherited a bases-loaded pickle from Valdez in the 4th and allowed one runner to score. He got a strikeout to end the 4th and worked around a hit to throw a scoreless 5th, striking out another batter. Matt Bower went 3.1 innings and allowed 3 runs on 6 hits (solo homer) and struck out 2.

Brett Adcock gets the call in game 2 of this series. He'll take on Dane Dunning at 7:00 Eastern.

Cedar Rapids 4, Quad Cities 0

The Banditos were stymied at the plate to open the second half.

Troy Sieber's double and Chuckie Robinson's single were the only Quad Cities hits.

Forrest Whitley pitched well but had to take the loss despite his efforts. He allowed a run on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 7 in 4 innings. Dustin Hunt worked around a hit and a walk to throw a scoreless 5th. Gabriel Valdez pitched the last 4 innings and allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits (solo homer), walked 1, and struck out 2.

Yohan Ramirez faces Sean Poppen in game 2 of this series. First pitch is at 6:35.

Tri-City 1, Lowell 0

TC home runs: None.

The ValleyCats only had one hit, but they scored the only run of the game.

Miguelangel Sierra scored on a wild pitch in the 1st inning. Abraham Toro's 2-out single in the 6th was the lone Tri-City hit.

Ricardo Castro allowed a hit, walked 4, and struck out 3 in 5 innings of work. Felipe Tejada got 2 outs in the 6th, both via strikeout, but got himself into a predicament and left the bases loaded for Robert Corniel, who got a strikeout to end the inning. Corniel ended up allowing 2 hits and striking out 5 in 2.2 innings. Luis Ramirez worked around a walk to get the final two outs of the game, one via strikeout, in order to complete the shutout.

Cristian Javier takes the mound as the ValleyCats look for the sweep. He'll go up against Nick Duron at 7:00 Eastern.

Greeneville 13, Bluefield 6

W- Francisco Villegas (1-0)
L- Jose Nova (0-1)

Greeneville home runs: Brody Westmoreland (1, 2-run in 2nd)

The Appy Astros opened their campaign on a winning note thanks to a 4-run 2nd and a 6-run 5th.

Everyone in the lineup had a hit except for Enmanuel Valdez, who still scored a couple of runs. Reiny Beltre had a single on his line but didn't score.

Vicente Mota singled to lead off the 2nd and one batter later, Brody Westmoreland launched the first home run of Greeneville's season. José Benjamin and Oscar Campos followed with singles. Campos stole 3rd and Juan Piñeda walked to load the bases for Gilberto Celestino, who reached on an error that allowed Benjamin and Campos to score.

Westmoreland added an RBI double to his ledger in the 5th. Benjamin followed by hitting into a fielder's choice that scored Mota. Piñeda hit a 2-run single and scored on an error following a Wilson Amador infield single. Amador stole his way to 3rd and scored on a wild pitch. Mota scored for the third time on an errant throw from center field after Benjamin flew out in the 6th. Celestino scored on an error in the 7th and Mota capped off the evening with an RBI single.

Westmoreland went 4-5 and scored twice. Campos (2B, R, SB), Piñeda (2 RBI, R), and Mota (RBI, 3 R) finished with 2 hits on the night.

Juan Robles allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6 in 3.2 innings. Willy Collado got the last out of the 4th and 2 outs in the 5th for his inning of work; he allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and fanned 2. Francisco Villegas shut it down by allowing a hit and striking out 3 over 4.1 scoreless innings.

DSL Astros Blue 4, DSL Dodgers1 3

Blue home runs: None.

Team Blue withstood a late charge from the Dodgers 1 and hung on for the win.

Denilson Lugo didn't allow a hit and struck out 3 while he was on the mound. However, he only lasted 2.2 innings and walked 6. Ronaldo Marrero tagged in to throw 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits, walking 2, and striking out 4. Oscar Severino allowed an unearned run on a wild pitch, a single, walked 1, and struck out 2 in the 8th. Christopher Javier allowed 2 runs on 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1 in the 9th. He still managed to pull himself together to secure the victory.

Yeuris Ramirez got plunked with the bases loaded in the 4th to bring in the first run of the day. Brandon Benavente scored on an errant pickoff throw in the 7th. The Blue team got 2 in the 8th as Ramirez got plunked with the bases loaded again, and a wild pitch allowed Angel Tejeda to score. Nerio Rodriguez and Samir Caraballo had 2 hits apiece.

DSL Astros Orange 9, DSL Indians 6

W- Jesus Bernaez (1-1)
L- Diarlin Jimenez (1-1)
S- Ronny Garcia (1)

Orange home runs: None.

Team Orange erupted for 5 runs in the 4th to take an 8-2 lead. The Indians dented that lead a bit, but the Orange team had enough of a cushion to work with.

Deury Carrasco doubled to lead off the bottom of the 1st and eventually scored the first run of the day on a wild pitch. Jeury Castillo added to the early lead with a 2-run double.

In that big 4th inning, Team Orange had 7 consecutive batters reach before the Indians could record an out. Carrasco and Freudis Nova hit RBI singles and they both advanced a base on a wild pitch. Euclides Chavez followed with a 2-run single. They ended up loading the bases but missed an opportunity to inflict even more damage. They didn't come away empty-handed, though; Jeury Castillo hit a sac fly. Michael Garcia led off the 8th with a double and scored on Freudis' 2nd RBI single of the day.

Nova finished 3-5 on the day. Carrasco (2B, 2 R), Chavez (2 RBI, 2 R), and Garcia (2B, 2 R) all finished with 2 hits.

Asael Uribe went 3 innings and allowed 2 runs, a hit, walked 3, and struck out 3. Jesus Bernaez was the first man out of the Orange team bullpen and threw 3.2 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits, walking 4, and striking out 3. Ronny Garcia allowed a run on a wild pitch, a single, walked 3, and struck out 2 in 2.1 innings.

Fresno home runs: None.

The Grizzlies were foiled in their bid to sweep the series as Dean Deetz received a rude welcome to the Pacific Coast League. Fresno took advantage of some Tacoma blunders, but the Rainiers built a 7-3 lead after the first three innings.

Deetz only lasted 2.1 innings and allowed 7 runs (1 inherited runner charged to him) on 9 hits (solo homer), walked 2, and struck out 1. Aaron West stopped the bleeding with 2.2 scoreless, allowing 4 hits and striking out 1. Brian Holmes pitched 1.1 innings and allowed 2 hits, had an inherited runner charged to him, walked 2, and struck out 1. Tyson Perez got the last 2.2 innings and allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1.

Jon Kemmer put Fresno on the board with an RBI single in the 2nd inning. One batter later, Max Stassi reached on an error that allowed Colin Moran and Tyler White to score. The Grizzlies scored two more runs off Tacoma's gaffes in the 5th as Tony Kemp scored on a wild pitch and Preston Tucker came home on an error that allowed Teoscar Hernandez to reach safely. No one turned in a multi-hit game, no one scored more than once. A.J. Reed's double in the 9th inning was the Grizzlies' only extra-base hit.

The Grizzlies will hit the road for 11 games. Their first stop is Sacramento, where they'll play 4 with the RiverCats beginning tonight at 7:05 Pacific. Trent Thornton will take on Michael Roth in game 1.

Tulsa 10, Corpus Christi 9

CC home runs: J.D. Davis (14, 2-run in 1st). Jason Martin (1, 11 season; solo in 3rd), Jon Singleton (10, solo in 4th)

The Hooks scored 2 in the 8th to break a 7-7 tie, only to see the Drillers walk off with the win after they scored 3 in the bottom of the 9th. Corpus dropped 2 of 3 in both series in this roadtrip.
J.D. Davis opened the scoring by launching a 2-run homer in the opening frame. Jason Martin smacked a solo shot in the 3rd to tie the game at 3, his first home run in the Texas League. Jon Singleton led off the 4th with a homer. Later in the inning, Tony Nuñez added a sac fly and Martin ripped a 2-run double. In the 8th, Trent Woodward hit an RBI single and Garrett Stubbs scored on a wild pitch.

Alex Winkelman went 5 innings and allowed 6 runs (5 earned) on 7 hits (2-run homer), walked 2, and struck out 2. Ryan Thompson allowed a run on 3 hits and struck out 2 over 2.2 innings. The Drillers homered twice off Sean Stutzman in the bottom of the 9th: Edwin Rios tied it with a 2-run homer with 1 out in the inning and Matt Beaty won it with a solo shot with 2 outs. Stutzman got the final out of the 8th and 2 outs in the 9th, walking 1 and striking out 2.

Corpus is back home and they have the day off. They'll start a 4-game series with Frisco tomorrow at 7:05 as Kent Emanuel faces Ariel Jurado.

Myrtle Beach 8, Buies Creek 5 through 9.5 innings

This game was suspended in the middle of the 10th due to storms. It'll resume at 6:00 Eastern, with the scheduled game to follow immediately after. Brett Adcock will take on Mike Rucker in that game.

Quad Cities 14, Kane County 5

W- Carlos Sanabria (2-2)
L- Sam Lewis (0-2)

QC home runs: Yordan Alvarez (3, 3-run in 3rd), Ray Henderson (3, 3-run in 7th)

The Banditos got on the board with 3 in the 3rd to tie the game, then took control with 5 in the 7th. When the Cougars tried to get back in the game with a pair in the 8th, Quad Cities put the game away with 6 in the bottom of the 8th.

Forrest Whitley went 3 innings and allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. Salvador Montaño picked him up by allowing a hit and striking out 2 over 2 scoreless innings. Carlos Sanabria followed with 3 innings, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits, walking 2, and striking otu 3. Erasmo Pinales struck out 2 in a 1-2-3 9th.

Yordan Alvarez put Quad Cities on the board by launching a 3-run home run into the Mississippi River, which extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

Alvarez added an RBI single to his ledger in the 7th inning. Chuckie Robinson followed with an RBI single, and Ray Henderson delivered a haymaker in the form of a 3-run homer. The Banditos compounded the Cougars' misery by parlaying a bases-loaded, no out situation into 6 runs in the 8th.

Osvaldo Duarte and Alvarez both drew bases-loaded walks, then Robinson hit a 2-run double. Henderson added a sac fly, and Carmen Benedetti capped off the scoring with an RBI single. Benedetti and Taylor Jones both finished 3-4 on the evening. Alvarez (3-R HR, 5 RBI, 3 R) and Robinson (2B, 3 RBI, 2 R) had two hits apiece.

Quad Cities has the day off before embarking on a tour of Wisconsin. Their first stop will be Appleton, where they'll play 3 with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers starting tomorrow evening.

The Grizzlies got a fine pitching performance Friday night.

Leonys Martín and Zach Shank led off the game with singles off Casey Coleman. These would end up being Tacoma's only two hits of the evening. Shank's was an RBI single, which was the only run Coleman allowed in his 6 innings. He also walked 2 and struck out 7. Kevin Comer walked 1 and struck out 3 over 2 scoreless, and Jordan Jankowski struck out 2 in a 1-2-3 9th.

Juan Centeno put Fresno on the board with an RBI single in the 3rd, which extended his hitting streak to 20 games. Reid Brignac broke the tie with a 2-run blast in the 7th and Jon Kemmer capped off the evening by launching a solo homer. D.J. Fisher went 2-4 and was the only player on either side to finish with a multi-hit game.

David Martinez will start game 3 of this series. He'll go up against Tyler Cloyd at 7:05 Pacific.

Tulsa 5, Corpus Christi 4

CC home runs: Jon Singleton (9, 2-run in 3rd)

The Drillers scored 3 in the 9th to walk off with the win. This here is an example of getting the victory snatched from right under you.

Jon Singleton opened the scoring with a sac fly in the opening inning and then launched a 2-run homer in the 3rd. Ramon Laureano doubled to lead off the 9th and scored on a Jack Mayfield single. The two of them both finished 2-4 with a stolen base. Laureano now has 13 stolen bases, while Mayfield has 4 on the season. J.D. Davis went 2-3 and scored a run. Kyle Tucker has a hit in all four games he's played with Corpus and also stole a base, his first with the Hooks and 14th on the season.

Brock Dykxhoorn went 4.2 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, walked 6, and struck out 4. Sean Stutzman was the first man out of the Corpus bullpen and allowed 2 hits and struck out 1 over 2.2 scoreless innings. Riley Ferrell got a double play to end the 8th inning. He came out for the 9th, but the first two men reached against him, which prompted Andrew Thome's entrance. Thome retired the first two Drillers he faced, but three straight singles gave Tulsa the win. Ferrell allowed 3 hits, walked 1, and had two inherited runners charged to him. Thome allowed 3 hits, a run of his own, and struck out 1.

Buies Creek 3, Carolina 2

BC home runs: None.

The Mudcats tied the game with a pair in the top of the 7th but the Carolina Stros regained the advantage with a run after stretch time.

Anthony Hermelyn opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st inning and Stephen Wrenn added a sac fly. Rodrigo Ayarza ripped an RBI double in the 7th to put Buies Creek back in front. Anibal Sierra went 2-3 with a double and scored the go-ahead run.

Yoanys Quiala went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 runs (1 earned); both runs were inherited and charged to him following a wild pitch from Carlos Sierra and a passed ball on Hermelyn. He also allowed 2 hits, walked 5, and struck out 6. Sierra walked 1 and struck out 3 over 1.2 innings, and Nick Hernandez worked around a hit and a walk to earn the save, striking out the side in the 9th.

Framber Valdez starts the series finale. First pitch is at 6:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 5, Kane County 4

QC home runs: Chuckie Robinson (5, grand slam in 8th)

This, on the other hand, is what you would call snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. All 5 Quad Cities runs came in the 7th and the 8th after Kane County took a 4-0 lead into the 7th inning stretch.

Gabriel Valdez went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. Ronel Blanco was the first man out of the Banditos bullpen and went 2.1 innings, allowing 2 unearned runs on 2 hits, walking 2, and fanning 1. Lucas Williams allowed 2 hits and struck out 1 over 1.2 scoreless.

Ray Henderson's RBI double put Quad Cities on the board in the 7th inning. The fun started in the 8th. Jonathan Arauz singled to lead off the inning, but the rally was on the verge of never happening when Gabriel Bracamonte and Daz Cameron struck out. Ronnie Dawson kept the inning alive by walking and Yordan Alvarez also drew a walk to bring up Chuckie Robinson, who promptly cleared the bases and put Quad Cities in front with a grand slam. Alvarez finished 2-3 to extend his hitting streak to 8 games.

Cionel Perez will start game 2 of this series. He'll take on Jon Duplantier at 6:35.

The Grizzlies earned the split in the Pacific Northwest with an extra-inning victory.

Francis Martes hasn't had the most stellar start to his season but this outing looks to be a step in the right direction. He went 5.2 innings and allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits (solo homer), walked 1, and struck out 9. Martes hit 98 MPH on his final pitch of the night. Ashur Tolliver got the final out of the 6th and the first out of the 7th, but he allowed 3 runs (1 inherited runner charged to him) on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1.

Dayan Diaz was next: he didn't allow a run of his own in 2.2 innings, but he did allow the runner he inherited from Tolliver to score, which tied the game at 5. Diaz also allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. Aaron West came on for the 10th but allowed 2 runs (1 inherited runner charged to him) on 4 hits and failed to record an out. Reymin Guduan took ownership of the 10th and got a double play (that resulted in one of West's runners scoring) and struck out Leonys Martín to end the game.

Jon Kemmer put Fresno on the board with a solo shot in the 5th inning and Tony Kemp chipped in with a 2-run blast to put them in front. Kemp added a 2-run double to his ledger in the 7th. Fresno broke a 5-5 tie in the first extra frame as Colin Moran launched a 2-run homer and Kemmer added an RBI double to his line.

Kemmer finished 3-4 on the evening. Kemp (2B, 2-R HR, 4 RBI, R), Moran (2-R HR), Reid Brignac, and D.J. Fisher (SB, R) all had two hits in the game. Max Stassi went 0-2 but walked twice and scored twice.

The Hooks stormed out to a 7-2 lead and staved off a Tulsa uprising in the late innings to come out victorious.

Brock Dykxhoorn and Cy Sneed both pitched 4 innings and they both allowed 3 runs. Dykxhoorn allowed 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3, while Sneed allowed 3 hits, walked 1, and fanned 6. Andrew Thome allowed a run on 2 hits and struck out 1 in the 9th.

Jon Singleton smacked an RBI double in the 1st inning to put Corpus on the board. Ramon Laureano followed by reaching on an error that allowed Garrett Stubbs to score; he was credited with an RBI on the play. Singleton put the Hooks in front when he scored on a wild pitch while Laureano stole 2nd. Laureano ended up at 3rd and scored on a Jamie Ritchie sac fly. J.D. Davis whacked a 3-run homer in the 2nd, his system-leading 11th of the year. Laureano ripped an RBI double in the 7th and Singleton added a 2-run single to his ledger in the 8th.

Singleton (2B, 3 RBI, 2 R) and Drew Ferguson (2 R, BB, SB) both finished with 3 hits and 2 runs scored; Ferguson extended his hitting streak to 23 games. Stubbs walked 4 times and scored 3 runs.

The Astros got torched by a 3-homer performance from Frederick's Ryan Mountcastle on Friday night.

Jake Rogers put Buies Creek on the board with a 2-run double in the 3rd inning. Spencer Johnson hit an RBI single in the 4th, and Ryne Birk smacked a 2-run homer in the 7th. Rogers went 2-3 on the night.

Matt Bower got knocked around in his 4.2 innings. I think some things are better left unsaid. Devon Carr issued a walk and got the final out of the 5th. Yoanys Quiala pitched the final 3 innings and the one hit he allowed was a solo homer to Mountcastle, his third of the night. He also walked 1 and struck out 1.

Game 2 of this series starts at 5:00 Eastern as Framber Valdez takes on Ofelky Peralta.

Both teams scored a run in the first extra frame, but the Snappers seized control with 3 in the top of the 11th.

In his first game since coming off the disabled list, Alex De Goti went 2-5 with an RBI double in the 4th inning. Yordan Alvarez also turned in a 2-hit night; one of those two hits was an RBI single in the 5th. He walked to lead off the bottom of the 10th and scored on an Osvaldo Duarte double. Duarte's two hits were both doubles. Stephen Wrenn also went 2-4 out of the leadoff spot.

Dustin Hunt went 4 innings and allowed a run on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. Abdiel Saldaña and Lucas Williams followed with 3 innings apiece out of the Banditos bullpen. Saldaña allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2, while Williams allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1. Beloit got to Kevin Hill for 3 runs on 4 hits in the 11th inning.

The Dodgers jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the 3rd and then buried the Grizzlies with 5 runs in the 6th and 4 more in the 8th.

Colin Moran put Fresno on the board with a solo homer in the 2nd that tied the game at 1. The game wouldn't be tied for long because OKC scored a pair in the bottom of the 2nd to regain control. Tony Kemp doubled to lead off the 6th and scored on a D.J. Fisher double. Kemp hit an RBI double in the 7th and an RBI single in the 9th. Jon Kemmer added a sac fly later in the 9th. Kemp finished 5-5 with 3 doubles; he had half of the Grizzlies' 10 hits.

Francis Martes only went 3 innings and allowed 5 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits (solo homer), walked 4, and struck out 3. Brian Holmes was the first man out of the Fresno bullpen and allowed 3 runs, all of which were inherited runners charged to him. He also allowed 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2 in 2.1 innings. Ashur Tolliver was next; he allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and walked 2 in 1.2 innings. Aaron West allowed 4 runs on 6 hits in the 8th.

The Grizzlies return home to start a 4-game series with Nashville. Casey Coleman takes on Chris Bassitt at 6:35 Pacific.

Both teams recorded 8 hits in this game... only one of them scored. The Hooks battled back in this series; first, they ended a 10-game losing streak on Saturday and then they earned the split with a shutout win on Mother's Day.

Cy Sneed and two relievers combined on the shutout: Sneed allowed 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 9 in 5.1 innings of work. Mike Freeman was the first man out of the Corpus bullpen; he came on after Sneed got into a jam in the 6th got the final two outs of the frame without incident. He got the first out of the 7th but was pulled after allowing a couple of hits soon after. Jacob Dorris got him out of the predicament without incident; Dorris went on to throw 2.2 innings, allowing 3 hits and fanning 4 to earn the save.

J.D. Davis drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the 1st, advanced to 3rd on a Jon Singleton single, and scored the first run of the day on a passed ball. Singleton whacked a 2-run homer in the 6th and Garrett Stubbs capped off the afternoon with an RBI single. Singleton and Ramon Laureano both finished with two hits on the day.

The Hooks are heading up I-37 to start a series with San Antonio. First pitch is at 7:05.

Down East 10, Buies Creek 6

The Carolina Stros were foiled in their bid to sweep the series after the Wood Ducks scored 5 in the bottom of the 9th, the last 4 of which came on a grand slam.

Ryne Birk has scuffled badly after a pretty good start, so he's looking to get himself back on track. A 4-5, 3 RBI performance is a solid rebound. He opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 4th inning. Jason Martin hit into a fielder's choice that scored Osvaldo Duarte in the 5th.

Arturo Michelena led off the 7th with a double and came around to score on a single from Anthony Hermelyn. Before Hermelyn's single, Kyle Tucker got plunked. Little Tuck stole 3rd, then Pat Porter drew a walk to load the bases for Birk, who came through with a 2-run single. Myles Straw tripled to lead off the 9th and scored when Tucker grounded out. Porter, Straw (3B, R), and Dex McCall all finished with 2 hits on the day.

Yoanys Quiala went 5.1 innings and allowed 4 runs (1 inherited runner charged to him) on 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. Patrick Sandoval made his season debut and allowed 3 runs (2 inherited runners charged to him) on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. The first two batters of the 9th reached against Sandoval, which prompted Carlos Sierra to enter the game. Sierra got an out on a sacrifice bunt, then issued an intentional walk and another walk that tied the game. The Wood Ducks won the game thanks to a walk-off grand slam from Josh Morgan, which was the only hit he allowed.

Framber Valdez will start the first game of a 4-game set in Myrtle Beach. He'll take on Ryan Kellogg at 7:05 Eastern.

Quad Cities was off

The Banditos are back home and they will begin a 3-game series with Burlington at 11:00 AM. Carson LaRue will get the start.

The Grizzlies scored in four consecutive innings and withstood an 8th-inning rally to take the lead in the series.

Fresno got on the board in the 4th thanks to a pair of RBI doubles from A.J. Reed and Reid Brignac. Preston Tucker smacked a 2-run double in the 5th to put them in front, and they added a run in the 6th on a Tony Kemp RBI single and one more in the 7th on an RBI double from Tyler White.

Everyone in the starting 9+1 recorded a hit. D.J. Fisher led the way in that category by going 3-5. He extended his hitting streak to 16 games and also scored and stole a base. Kemp and Reed both finished with 2 hits on the evening.

Mike Hauschild went 4 innings and allowed 2 runs; Max Muncy tripled in the 1st and ended up scoring on a wild pitch. The other run came on a solo homer hit by Ike Davis. Those were the only two hits that Hauschild allowed; he also walked 2 and struck out 4.

Reymin Guduan and Tyson Perez both pitched 2 innings; Guduan turned in a scoreless outing, walking 2 and striking out 1. The two runs Perez allowed came on a home run hit by O'Koyea Dickson in the 8th. Tyson allowed one other hit, walked 1, and fanned 2. Jordan Jankowski worked around a couple of walks, one of which was intentional, to close out the game; he struck out Drew Maggi to end the game.

The Grizzlies and Dodgers will conclude their series at 2:05. Francis Martes will face Trevor Oaks.

The Hooks snapped their 10-game losing streak thanks to a 6-run 6th that was punctuated by Jon Singleton's grand slam.

Josh James threw 5 innings and allowed just one run on a sac fly, a double, walked 4, and struck out 4. Rogelio Armenteros tagged in to throw 3 scoreless, allowing 3 hits, walking 2, and striking out 5. Andrew Thome threw a 1-2-3 9th.

All six runs in that big 6th inning came with two outs. Ramon Laureano drew a walk to keep the inning alive. He then stole 2nd and scored Corpus Christi's first run on a single from Kristian Trompiz. Drew Ferguson followed with a single, and Bobby Boyd singled to bring in Trompiz. J.D. Davis legged out an infield single to load the bases for Singleton, who promptly cleared them with a salami. He capped off the night with an RBI double in the 8th.

Ferguson and Davis both finished 3-5 with a run scored on the evening. Singleton (2B, grand slam, 5 RBI), Boyd (RBI, 2 R, SB), and Trompiz (RBI, R) all had two hits.

Cy Sneed will start the series finale. He'll go up against James Naile at 2:05.

Buies Creek 4, Down East 2

Buies Creek put up the only crooked-numbered inning in this game and that turned out to be the difference. In 14 head-to-head meetings across the Majors and two minor league levels, the Astros organization is 10-4 against the Rangers organization. (Fresno and Round Rock have yet to play each other in the Pacific Coast League.)

The one run that Justin Ferrell surrendered in his 5 innings of work came on a solo home run from Josh Morgan in the 2nd inning. He allowed two singles, walked 1, and struck out 4. Matt Bower allowed a run on 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2 in 3 innings of work. Nick Hernandez struck out a pair and worked around a hit and a walk to close it out for the second night in a row.

Morgan put the Wood Ducks on the scoreboard first, but their lead wouldn't last long because Dex McCall led off the 3rd with a homer. Two batters later, Arturo Michelena singled and Jason Martin followed with a triple to put the Astros in the lead. Martin scored on a Kyle Tucker groundout in the 5th. Myles Straw led off the 8th with a triple and Little Tuck capped off the evening by bringing him in with a single. Martin, Straw, and Michelena all finished 2-4 with a run scored; both of Martin's hits went for extra bases.

The Astros will look for the sweep as Yoanys Quiala takes the mound. He'll go up against Richelson Peña at 2:00 Eastern.

Dayton 10, Quad Cities 9 in 11 innings

The Banditos successfully erased a 5-run deficit in this game to force extra innings.... only to see the Dragons complete the sweep as they walked off with the win.

Rodrigo Ayarza kicked off his huge night with an RBI single in the 1st inning. Carmen Benedetti ripped an RBI double in the 5th that tied the game at 2, but then Dayton put up 5 in the bottom of the 5th to put them firmly in control. Ray Henderson smacked an RBI double in the 7th. The Dragons responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the 7th to re-establish their 5-run lead, but Chuckie Robinson and Ayarza had other ideas. Robinson smacked a 2-run homer in the 8th to cut the deficit to three runs, and then down to their final out, Ayarza tied the game with a 3-run home run to send it into extra innings. Ayarza wasn't done; he hit an RBI single in the top of the 11th that gave Quad Cities a 9-8 lead. He finished 4-5 on the evening. Marcos Almonte went 3-5 with a stolen base (2) and scored a run.

Ryan Hartman went 4 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, walked 4, and struck out 2. Ronel Blanco got the first two outs of the 5th via strikeout, but he got tagged for 5 runs on 6 hits. Enoli Paredes threw 5.1 innings in order to stop the bleeding; the one hit he allowed was a solo homer to Hector Vargas in the 7th. Paredes also walked 2 and struck out 2. Erasmo Pinales got two outs in the 11th; he needed to get three. The Dragons got him for 2 runs on 2 hits and he also issued a couple of walks.

Quad Cities has today off. They'll return to action Monday morning as they begin a 3-game series with Burlington.

The Grizzlies were swept out of Colorado Springs. This is the second time that Fresno has been swept in a series this season and both have come on the road.

Tyler White scored the first run of the day on an error that allowed Juan Centeno to reach in the 2nd inning. Later in the frame, Andrew Aplin drew a bases-loaded walk. In the 6th, Centeno scored on an error that allowed Aplin to reach; Aplin was credited with an RBI on the play. D.J. Fisher extended his hitting streak to 14 games with an RBI single, and Preston Tucker hit a sac fly to bring the Grizzlies to within one run.

White and Max Stassi both finished 2-5. Centeno also extended his hitting streak to 12 games on Tuesday.

Casey Coleman pitched 4.2 innings and allowed 6 runs (5 earned) on 8 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7. Aaron West got the final out of the 5th and the first out of the 6th; he allowed 2 runs, both of which were inherited runners that were charged to him, a hit, and walked 2. The Rockets weren't the only Houston-affiliated team to lose to a San Antonio team last night.... and now I'm mad again. Excuse me while I try to cool down a bit.

The Hooks were swept for the second straight series, extending their losing streak to 8 games. They managed to tie this game with a run in the 9th.... only to see the Missions score a pair in the first extra frame to regain control. Yeah, bad things tend to occur during prolonged runs of poor form.

Brock Dykxhoorn went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. Cy Sneed tagged in for 4.2 innings and allowed 4 runs (2 earned, 2 inherited runners charged to him) on 6 hits, walked 3, and struck out 5. Jacob Dorris recorded the final out of the 10th, but an error that turned out to be the decisive play allowed the two go-ahead runs to score for San Antonio.

Bobby Boyd got the scoring started with a homer to lead off the bottom of the 1st. Jon Singleton led off the 2nd with a solo blast and scored on an error that allowed Kristian Trompiz to reach in the 4th. Alejandro Garcia led off the bottom of the 9th with a triple and scored on a single from Trompiz, who then stole 2nd and advanced to 3rd on the errant throw down. Unfortunately, he was stranded 90 feet from home to end the inning. Corpus had one last-ditch rally attempt in the 10th as Garrett Stubbs walked and J.D. Davis singled, but they were both stranded to end the game.

Corpus also has Wednesday off. They'll welcome Midland to Whataburger Field for 4 games starting on Thursday.

Salem 6, Buies Creek 1

Buies Creek's offense was shackled by Red Sox starter Travis Lakins, who held them to just 3 hits on the night.

Arturo Michelena led off the 6th with a double, advanced to 3rd thanks to an error on the play, and scored the Astros' only run on a Jason Martin groundout. Kyle Tucker doubled later in the inning but was left there to end the frame. Myles Straw singled and stole 2nd base in the 8th but he too was stranded to end that inning. Straw now has 8 stolen bases on the season.

Framber Valdez went 5 innings and allowed 4 runs on 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. Yoanys Quiala pitched the final 4 innings and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 8.

Hector Perez will start game 2 of this series. He'll face former Aggie Matt Kent at 7:00 Eastern.

The Banditos removed any lingering doubts regarding the outcome of this game by tacking on 3 runs in the top of the 9th inning. Both teams scored one run in each of the innings which they scored until the River Bandits put up the only crooked number in the final frame.

Dustin Hunt pitched 4 innings and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. Abdiel Saldaña allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and fanned 1 in a scoreless 5th. Carson LaRue finished off the game by allowing 4 hits, walking 1, and striking out 1 over 4 scoreless.

Randy César's RBI single in the 1st scored Rodrigo Ayarza and put Quad Cities on the board first. In the 2nd, Ronnie Dawson doubled and scored on an error that allowed Chuckie Robinson to reach. Robinson ripped an RBI double in the 4th while Dawson added an RBI single to his ledger in the 6th.

Dawson led off the 9th inning with a single and Robinson joined him on the bases after lashing his 2nd double of the contest. Dawson scored on a sac fly from Carmen Benedetti and Robinson came home on Ayarza's second double of the game. César capped off the scoring the way he opened it: he hit an RBI single that drove in Ayarza.

Cionel Perez will take on Brock Burke in the series finale later this morning. This game will get underway at 10:35 AM.
