Triple-A All-Star Break

The 2019 Triple-A All-Star Game will take place on Wednesday in El Paso. Kyle Tucker will represent Round Rock on the Pacific Coast League All-Star Team.

Round Rock returns to action on Thursday when they welcome Iowa to Dell Diamond for a four-game series.

Cedar Rapids 6, Quad Cities 5

The Kernels stunned the Banditos with four runs in the 9th to take the lead. This is the first time that Quad Cities has been swept in a series in 2019.

Ramiro Rodríguez led off the bottom of the 1st with a home run. He hit a two-out single in the 3rd and eventually scored on a base hit from Grae Kessinger. Alex McKenna launched his first home run of the year, a solo shot, in the 4th inning. César Salazar ripped a two-run double in the 7th that pushed Quad Cities' lead to 5-2. Salazar went 3-4 on the night while McKenna, Rodríguez, and Freúdis Nova all finished with two hits.

Felipe Tejada went four innings and allowed two runs on three hits, walked six, and struck out one. José Alberto Rivera cruised through four innings but ran into some trouble in the 9th. In 4.1 innings, Rivera allowed two runs, both of which were inherited runners that scored, a hit, walked one, and struck out eight. Layne Henderson got the final two outs of the 9th, but not before Cedar Rapids took the lead. Henderson allowed two runs of his own on two hits, walked one, and struck out one.

After a day off, the Banditos will start a three-game series in West Michigan.

Tri-City 4, Brooklyn 3

TC home runs: A.J. Lee (1, 3-run in 2nd)

The ValleyCats only scored in one inning but it turned out to be enough for them to get the win.

Kyle Serrano pitched 1.2 innings and allowed two unearned runs on three hits, walked one, and struck out five. The bullpen picked him up and allowed a run over the final 7.1 innings. Angel Macuare was the first man out of the Tri-City bullpen and he allowed a run on three hits, walked two, and struck out three in 4.1 innings. Lupe Chavez allowed two hits and struck out four over the final three innings to earn the save.

Wilyer Abreu put Tri-City on the board with an RBI single in the 2nd and one batter later, A.J. Lee launched a three-run home run, the first homer of his pro career. Korey Lee finished 2-4.

Juan Pablo Lopez gets the start in the series finale. First pitch is at 11:00 AM Eastern.

The Dominican 'Stros scored two in the 8th... but the Rays ended up walking off with the win in the first extra frame.

Ricardo Toro opened the scoring with an RBI groundout in the 2nd and Cristian Gonzalez added a sac fly in the 5th. Their two in the 8th came on a Sebastian Grullón groundout and an RBI single from Yohander Martinez.

Fabricio Reina went five innings and allowed two runs on five hits and struck out four. Daniel Pacheco and Miguel Padilla pitched two innings apiece. Pacheco was first and he allowed two runs on three hits (solo homer) and struck out two. Padilla allowed an unearned run that was the winning run and it was also an inherited runner that was charged to him. He also allowed a hit and struck out one. Cristofer Mezquita got two outs in the 10th but the winning run scored on a failed double play attempt. Mezquita issued two walks, one of which was intentional.

The Dominican 'Stros will host the A's at 11:30 AM Atlantic.

Headed up to College Station, so I'll try to keep this short.

Round Rock 9, San Antonio 2

RR home runs: Drew Ferguson (8, 2-run in 7th), Chas McCormick (3, 7 season; 3-run in 7th)

Two big innings propelled the E-Train to a series split.

Josh Rojas scored the first run of the evening on a wild pitch in the 1st. Drew Ferguson hit a two-run single in the 3rd and he came around to score on a Garrett Stubbs sac fly. Ferguson smacked a two-run homer in the 7th and Chas McCormick landed another haymaker when he clubbed a three-run home run later in the inning. The two of them, along with Alex De Goti and Nick Tanielu, finished with two hits on the night.

Cionel Pérez allowed a run on three hits, walked two, and struck out four in 5.2 innings of work. Kit Scheetz got the last out of the 6th with a strikeout. Joe Smith pitched a 1-2-3 7th, and Ralph Garza Jr. allowed a solo home run, walked one, and struck out two over the final two innings.

Round Rock is back home and they'll start a five-game series with Omaha at 7:05.

Amarillo 6, Corpus Christi 4

Corpus tied this game in the 7th... only to see Amarillo regain the lead and come away with the victory.

J.B. Bukauskas went six innings and allowed four runs on nine hits (solo and two-run homers), walked two, and struck out three. Tommy DeJuneas got the last two innings and he allowed two runs on two hits (solo homer), walked one, and struck out four.

Aníbal Sierra went 2-3 and his two-run shot in the 7th tied the game at 4. He also hit an RBI single in the 3rd. Stephen Wrenn drove in the other Corpus run with a sac fly in the 2nd.

Enoli Paredes faces Nick Margevicius at 6:05.

Myrtle Beach 3, Fayetteville 2

Fayetteville home runs: None.

Myrtle Beach got two in the 8th to snatch a win from the Woodpeckers' grasp.

Michael Papierski scored both Fayetteville runs in this game. He came home when Jeremy Peña grounded into a force out in the 1st and scored the other run on Chandler Taylor's triple in the 3rd. Taylor finished 2-3 on the evening.

Shawn Dubin allowed a run on two hits, walked one, and struck out nine in seven innings. César Rosado and Peter Solomon pitched an inning apiece with varying results. Rosado allowed two runs on two hits and walked two in the 8th, while Solomon, making his first appearance since being activated from the IL, allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out two in a scoreless 9th.

Austin Hansen starts game three of this series and he'll face Alexander Vargas at 6:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 7, Burlington 2

W- Cody Deason (5-3)
L- Cole Duensing (5-4)

The Banditos took the series as they went off for six runs in the 5th to seize control of this game. They also mowed down the Bees as Jonathan Bermúdez and Cody Deason combined to strike out 18.

Bermúdez, in his first career start, allowed two runs, one of which was an inherited runner that was charged to him, a solo homer, walked three, and struck out eight in 4.1 innings. Deason got the last 4.2 innings and he allowed a hit, walked two, and struck out a career-high ten.

Michael Wielansky went 2-3 with a couple of RBI singles. Alex McKenna also had two hits, one of which was an RBI single in that big 5th inning. He also stole a base (2) and scored twice. César Salazar finished with two hits and one of them was an RBI double.

Quad Cities will now begin a three-game series in Clinton. R.J. Freure will start game one and he'll face Tyler Mitzel at 6:30.

Aberdeen 3, Tri-City 0

W- Adam Stauffer (2-1)
L- Juan Pablo Lopez (1-2)

TC home runs: None.

The ValleyCats got blanked to extend their current skid to five games.

Korey Lee hit a triple out of the leadoff spot. Tri-City's only other hit in this game was a single from Zach Biermann.

Juan Pablo Lopez allowed three runs (two earned, one inherited runner charged to him) on four hits, walked two, and struck out three. Lupe Chavez allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out two in 4.1 innings, and Garrett Gayle worked around a walk to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out two.

Hunter Brown will start game two of this series. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

DSL Astros 3, DSL Red Sox1 1

The Domincan 'Stros scored three in the 4th and kept the Red Sox 1 in check.

Yohander Martinez scored their first run of the day by stealing home. Ayendy Ortiz, who finished 2-3 on the day, ripped a two-run double later in the inning.

Ronny Garcia went three innings and allowed a run on three hits, walked one, and struck out one. Misael Tamarez allowed three hits and walked two over four scoreless, and Cristofer Mezquita allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out four over the final two innings to get the save.

The Dominican 'Stros will face the Dodgers 1 (Bautista) at 11:00 AM Atlantic.

Iowa 6, Round Rock 1 (6 innings)

RR home runs: Josh Rojas (3, 11 season; solo in 1st)

This game was called with two outs in the 6th due to rain. The Cubs' first-inning outburst netted them the victory on Saturday.

Josh Rojas' solo shot in the 1st was the E-Train's only scoring play. Taylor Jones' single represented Round Rock's only other hit in this game.

Ryan Hartman pitched five innings and allowed six runs on seven hits (two and three-run homers), walked four, and struck out four.

Corbin Martin gets the start in game four of this series. He'll face Colin Rea at 1:05.

Corpus Christi 6, Springfield 4 (11 innings)

CC home runs: Osvaldo Duarte (9, walk-off 2-run in 11th)

The Hooks trailed 4-1 after the 5th but kept the Cardinals off the board the rest of the way and they eventually walked off with the W.

Carson LaRue went 4.2 innings and allowed four runs on five hits (solo homer), walked one, and struck out seven. Willy Collado got the final out of the 5th with a strikeout. Collin McHugh struck out one in a 1-2-3 6th, and Brandon Bailey allowed a hit and struck out five in five scoreless innings of relief.

Seth Beer opened the scoring with a sac fly in the 1st inning. George Springer, who scored on the sac fly, drew a bases-loaded walk in the 6th. Corpus tied the game with two in the 8th on a Chuckie Robinson sac fly and a Bryan de la Cruz RBI single. Colton Shaver started the 11th in scoring position. Ronnie Dawson flew out for the first out, but Osvaldo Duarte came through with a two-run home run to send everyone home happy. Duarte and Ramiro Rodríguez both finished with two hits on the evening. George Springer singled and drew three walks in his second rehab game.

Yohan Ramirez will be on the mound as the Hooks look for the sweep. He'll take on Johan Oviedo at 4:15.

Fayetteville 5, Myrtle Beach 3

The Woodpeckers got three in the 9th inning to snatch this game from the Pelicans.

Shawn Dubin went four innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits (two-run homer), walked one, and struck out seven. César Rosado struck out one in a 1-2-3 5th, and Brett Conine struck out one over four scoreless innings; he faced one batter over the minimum because he hit a batter.

Fayetteville got two in the opening inning on a sac fly from Chandler Taylor and a solo homer from J.J. Matijevic. They didn't score again until the 9th, but that rally ended up getting them the victory.

Matijevic and Jake Adams led off the inning with singles. Scott Schreiber popped out on the infield fly rule, but Marty Costes singled to load the bases for Michael Papierski, who tied the game with a single. Two batters later, Miguelangel Sierra hit a two-run single to put the Woodpeckers in front. Matijevic, who recently returned from a 50-game suspension for a drug of abuse while he was with Corpus, finished 2-4 and scored twice.

Nivaldo Rodríguez will get the start as Fayetteville looks for the sweep. He'll face Alexander Vargas at 6:05 Eastern.

Quad Cities 7, Beloit 4

The Banditos and the Snappers both scored in the same innings. The difference here, however, was Quad Cities scoring four in the top of the 1st.

Quad Cities got things started in the 1st with a pair of singles from Jeremy Peña and Oscar Campos and then César Salazar ripped a two-run double. Peña hit another RBI single in the 4th and Salazar added an RBI base hit to his ledger in the 5th. Freúdis Nova drove the last River Bandits run with a base hit in the 9th.

Ross Adolph went 3-5 and this time, he finished a home run shy of the cycle. He also stole a base (8) and scored both of Peña's base hits. Peña (2 RBI, R, SB), Campos (RBI, 2 R), and Salazar (2B, 3 RBI, SB) all finished with two hits on the evening.

Brett Daniels threw four innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits, walked four, and struck out six. Joey Gonzalez was the first man out of the Quad Cities bullpen and he allowed a run on five hits, walked one, and struck out one in three innings. Riley Cabral earned the two-inning save, allowing a run on two hits, walking one, and striking out two.

Matt Ruppenthal goes up against Chase Cohen in the series finale. First pitch is at 2:00.

Tri-City 6, Vermont 5 (11 innings)

The ValleyCats took another one-run game from the Lake Monsters, this time in walk-off fashion. This was not a textbook defensive game as both teams combined to commit nine errors in this one, although you could take that with a grain of salt as minor league scorekeepers, especially at the lower levels, occasionally have the tendency to be, um... liberal in scoring plays as errors.

Hunter Brown and Derek West made their pro debuts on the mound in this one. Brown, who was drafted in the 5th round earlier this month out of Division II Wayne State, allowed a run on three hits, walked one, and struck out one in 1.2 innings. West, a 14th-round pick out of Pittsburgh, pitched 1.1 innings and allowed two hits, one of which was a three-run home run. All three runs were unearned. Lupe Chavez followed with 3.2 innings and he allowed a run (inherited runner that was charged to him) on two hits, walked one, and struck out four. Jervic Chavez allowed a hit, walked two, and struck out three in 4.1 innings to get the win.

Preston Pavlica put Tri-City on the board with an RBI infield single in the 3rd inning. Juan Piñeda hit an RBI single in the 4th; C.J. Stubbs tried to score as well but he was thrown out at the plate. Pavlica hit a sac fly in the 5th and in the 6th, Piñeda reached on an error that allowed Zach Biermann to score and he himself ended up scoring on a bloop single from E.P. Reese.

Matt Barefoot started the 11th in scoring position and Biermann got a free pass to first to lead things off. Stubbs won it by ripping a double. Reese finished 2-4 with a stolen base, his second as a pro.

Peyton Battenfield takes on Yorlenis Noa as the ValleyCats look for a sweep. First pitch is at 5:00 Eastern.

DSL Athletics 8, DSL Astros 5

The Dominican 'Stros were stung by a late uprising from the A's, who scored two in the 8th and three in the 9th to take control.

Ricardo Toro and Sebastian Grullón hit RBI singles in the 1st inning. Andrés Monzón ripped an RBI double in the 4th and he came around to score on a single from Yohander Martinez. Carlos Hurtado ripped an RBI double in the 9th. He, Martinez, and Omar Díaz (2 R) all had two hits on the day.

Misael Tamarez got the start and he allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and struck out three in three innings. Edinson Batista went two innings and allowed a run on a wild pitch, a hit, walked three, and struck out three. Ronny Garcia was next; he pitched three innings and allowed two unearned runs on two hits and fanned two. José Betances got the 9th but only got one out via strikeout; he allowed three runs on three hits and walked three. Miguel Padilla got the last two outs of the 9th, one via strikeout.

The Astros' upper-level affiliates did battle with their counterparts from the Mariners while the A teams are on their All-Star breaks.

Tacoma 3, Round Rock 2

RR home runs: None.

The E-Train rallied but fell short. They held the Rainiers to just four hits but they lost in the column that ultimately matters.

Both of their runs came in the 8th as Drew Ferguson clubbed an RBI triple and then scored on A.J. Reed's groundout. Alex De Goti was hit by a pitch and José Altuve and Taylor Jones drew walks in the 9th, but they were all stranded to end the game. Ferguson finished 3-5 with a couple of triples, while Altuve smacked a triple of his own.

Brandon Bielak went six innings and the one run he allowed came on a solo homer hit by John Andreoli. He allowed two other hits, walked three, and struck out five. Brendan McCurry got the 7th and the one hit he allowed was a two-run homer that came off Andreoli's bat. McCurry, who was just activated from the IL, also walked one and struck out two. Ralph Garza Jr. struck out five over two perfect innings.

Akeem Bostick will face Sean Nolin in the series finale. First pitch is at 7:05.

Corpus Christi 7, Arkansas 1

Brandon Bailey had a stellar outing as the Hooks had their way to open a new series.

Bailey allowed just two hits, walked one, and struck out eight over five shutout innings. The bullpen got the last 12 outs of this game; Collin McHugh, Tommy DeJuneas, and Colin McKee recorded four apiece. McHugh was first and he allowed a run on two hits, walked one, and struck out two. DeJuneas allowed a hit, walked two, and fanned two, while McKee allowed a hit and fanned two.

Abraham Toro opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st inning. He struck again in the 3rd with an RBI double and he came around to score on Seth Beer's RBI single. Aníbal Sierra hit a groundout in the 6th that Ronnie Dawson and then an error on the play also allowed Osvaldo Duarte to come home with another run. Duarte capped off the evening by launching a two-run homer in the 8th. De La Cruz and Toro both finished with three hits on the night and they both ripped a pair of doubles.

Tonight's game marks the beginning of the second half in the Texas League. J.B. Bukauskas will take on Justus Sheffield at 6:15.

Carolina League All-Star Break

The 2019 Carolina League All-Star Game will take place tonight in Frederick, Maryland.

Fayetteville kicks off the second half on Thursday in Myrtle Beach.

Midwest League All-Star Break

The 2019 Midwest League All-Star Game will take place tonight in South Bend, Indiana.

Quad Cities returns to action on Thursday in Beloit.

Tri-City 2, Staten Island 1 (10 innings)

The ValleyCats entered the win column for the first time in 2019 by walking off with one in their home opener.

Guadalupe Chavez allowed two hits, walked three, and struck out five in five shutout innings of work. Jervic Chavez allowed the Yankees' only run when he threw a wild pitch in the 7th. In three innings, Chavez also walked three and struck out two. Hansel Paulino allowed a hit and struck out two in two innings.

Tri-City couldn't get anything across until Yeuris Ramirez tied the game by smacking a home run to lead off the 9th. Joe Perez started the 10th in scoring position but Deury Carrasco replaced him. Carrasco moved to third on Juan Paulino's groundout and scored the winning run on a wild pitch. Ramirez finished 2-4 on the night with a stolen base, his first of the season. In his first professional game, Korey Lee went 0-4.

Manny Ramirez will start the opener of a three-game series in Aberdeen. First pitch is at 7:05 Eastern.

DSL Marlins 10, DSL Astros 9

The Marlins came out on top in a wild start. The Dominican 'Stros eventually fought back to tie, but the Marlins wound up regaining control.

Ricardo León, Edinson Batista, and Ronny Garcia all struggled, but Misael Tamarez allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out five over three scoreless innings. Luis Vega allowed a hit and struck out one in a scoreless 9th.

Yohander Martinez was caught stealing in the 1st inning but his sacrifice did not go unrewarded as Andrés Monzón took advantage and scored. Martinez hit an RBI single in the 3rd and then scored on a wild pitch. Ricardo Toro delivered the big hit of the day in the form of a bases-clearing double. Monzón scored on a wild pitch in the 4th and Martinez scored another run on a double from Cristian Gonzalez.

Martinez finished 3-3 on the day and reached in all of his plate appearances; he also drew a couple of walks and ended up stealing a base, after all. He now has eight stolen bases this season. Monzón scored three runs. Toro finished 2-4.

The Astros will face the Royals 1 at 11:30 AM Atlantic.
