Round Rock 10, Iowa 2

RR home runs: Kyle Tucker (26, grand slam in 7th), Chas McCormick (11, 2-run in 9th)

Round Rock took the lead with three in the 3rd and then tacked on seven runs over the final three innings to turn this one into a laugher.

Brandon Bielak shook off two 1st-inning runs to turn in a solid outing. In seven innings, Bielak allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out seven. Brendan McCurry walked one and struck out four over the final two innings.

Josh Rojas put Round Rock on the board with an RBI single in the 3rd and Jack Mayfield followed that up with a two-run double. Kyle Tucker blew this one open with a grand slam in the 7th. Nick Tanielu scored on a wild pitch in the 8th and Chas McCormick launched a two-run homer in the 9th to cap off the evening. Rojas (RBI, 2 R, SB) and Tanielu (2B, 2 R) both finished with three hits on the night, while Mayfield went 2-4.

Springfield 3, Corpus Christi 1

CC home runs: Lorenzo Quintana (13, solo in 2nd)

The Hooks outhit the Cardinals 6-3 in this one but lost out in the column that matters most.

Lorenzo Quintana's solo blast in the 2nd inning represented Corpus Christi's only scoring play. Abraham Toro finished 2-4 with a double.

Yohan Ramirez threw six innings and allowed a run on a wild pitch, a single, walked one, and struck out eight. Nick Hernandez got the 7th and got two outs via strikeout, but he also walked two and allowed a go-ahead solo homer. Carlos Sanabria pitched 1.1 innings and allowed a run on a sac fly, a hit, walked four, and struck out three.

Fayetteville 4, Carolina 2

Fayetteville home runs: Enmanuel Valdez (7, solo in 7th), Chandler Taylor (6, solo in 8th)

A couple of homers swung the momentum of this game in the Woodpeckers' favor.

Shawn Dubin went five innings and allowed two runs on three hits, walked two, and struck out nine. Joey Gonzalez allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out one over three scoreless innings and César Rosado allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out the side in the 9th.

Fayetteville got on the board in the 5th thanks to a pair of RBI singles from Jeremy Peña and Jonathan Arauz. Enmanuel Valdez smacked a solo homer in the 7th to put them in front and Chandler Taylor sent one out in the 8th for an insurance run. Peña went 3-4 on the night, while Arauz, Ross Adolph, and Valdez (solo HR, 2 R) all had two on the evening.

Austin Hansen takes on Matt Hardy in the series finale. The Woodpeckers are looking for a sweep; first pitch is at 6:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 11, Beloit 4

QC home runs: Alex Holderbach (4, 2-run in 6th)

With Jayne in attendance, the Banditos poured it on the Snappers to start this new series. They scored in each of the first seven innings and added in a couple of three-run innings in the 3rd and the 6th.

Lupe Chavez threw four innings and allowed four runs on six hits, walked three, and struck out three. Felipe Tejada shut it down by allowing three hits, walking two, and tying his career-high with nine strikeouts over five scoreless.

Ramiro Rodriguez hit a one-out single in the 1st; he proceeded to steal his way to third and scored the first run of the night on the errant throw to third. Trey Dawson hit an RBI single in the 2nd. César Salazar ripped a two-run triple in the 3rd and scored on a sac fly from Alex Holderbach. Dawson scored on a wild pitch in the 4th and Michael Wielansky lashed an RBI double in the 5th. Oscar Campos hit an RBI single in the 6th and he wound up scoring when Holderbach whacked a homer. Grae Kessinger capped off the night with a sac fly in the 7th.

Everyone in the lineup recorded a hit. Wielansky led the way by going 3-6 with a couple of doubles. Rodriguez (3B, 3 R, 2 SB), Holderbach (2-R HR, 3 RBI), and Dawson (RBI, R, SB) all finished with two hits in this game. Rodriguez's two steals give him 12 on the year.

Quad Cities and Beloit will play two today with game one starting at 2:00. José Alberto Rivera and Jonathan Bermúdez will go up against Rafael Kelly and Richard Guasch.

Connecticut 9, Tri-City 2

W- Marco Jimenez (2-1)

TC home runs: C.J. Stubbs (4, solo in 5th), A.J. Lee (3, solo in 5th)

The Tigers took control of this one early.

Tri-City's only two runs of the evening came on back-to-back solo homers from C.J. Stubbs and A.J. Lee in the 5th. Stubbs and Korey Lee both finished 2-4.

Hunter Brown pitched two innings; he also pitched in the 3rd but failed to record an out. Brown allowed five runs (three inherited runners charged to him) on three hits, walked four, and struck out three. Derek West took ownership of the 3rd and ended up going three innings, allowing four runs (three earned) of his own on six hits, walking one, and striking out one. Yeremi Ceballos got a groundout and two fly ball outs in a 1-2-3 6th and Peyton Battenfield allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out three over three scoreless.

Kyle Serrano will be on the mound for the series finale. First pitch is at 5:00 Eastern.

GCL Astros 4, GCL Cardinals 3

GCL home runs: None.

The Palm Beach 'Stros scored four in the 8th to snatch this game from right under the Cardinals' noses.

They loaded the bases in the 8th and got all of their runs from that situation. Tyler Krabbe brought in the first run after he got plunked and then José Álvarez brought everyone home with a double. Alfredo Angarita finished 2-4 and scored a run.

Brady Rodgers made his first rehab appearance since going on the IL in Round Rock; he and Franny Cobos threw two innings apiece in this game. Rodgers allowed a hit and struck out two in a scoreless outing while Cobos allowed two hits, one of which was a two-run homer, walked one, and struck out four. Kevin Dickey took over for four innings and allowed two hits, one of which was a solo homer, and struck out eight. Jherson Pereira walked one and struck out one in the 9th to earn the save.

DSL Athletics 7, DSL Astros 6 (10 innings)

DSL home runs: None.

The Dominican 'Stros thought they got an insurance run in the 9th, but the A's tied it with two in the 10th. The Astros retook the lead in the 10th... and then the A's walked off with the win.

Andrés Monzón went 2-5 with an RBI single in the 3rd inning. Cristian Gonzalez also finished 2-5 and he scored a run. Frank Pérez stole a couple of bases, giving him six on the season.

Jeremy Molero and Edinson Batista threw three innings apiece to start off; Molero allowed two runs, both of which were inherited runners that scored and were charged to him, a hit, walked four, and struck out five. Batista allowed a run of his own on two hits, walked two, and struck out three.

Headed up to College Station, so I'll try to keep this short.

Round Rock 9, San Antonio 2

RR home runs: Drew Ferguson (8, 2-run in 7th), Chas McCormick (3, 7 season; 3-run in 7th)

Two big innings propelled the E-Train to a series split.

Josh Rojas scored the first run of the evening on a wild pitch in the 1st. Drew Ferguson hit a two-run single in the 3rd and he came around to score on a Garrett Stubbs sac fly. Ferguson smacked a two-run homer in the 7th and Chas McCormick landed another haymaker when he clubbed a three-run home run later in the inning. The two of them, along with Alex De Goti and Nick Tanielu, finished with two hits on the night.

Cionel Pérez allowed a run on three hits, walked two, and struck out four in 5.2 innings of work. Kit Scheetz got the last out of the 6th with a strikeout. Joe Smith pitched a 1-2-3 7th, and Ralph Garza Jr. allowed a solo home run, walked one, and struck out two over the final two innings.

Round Rock is back home and they'll start a five-game series with Omaha at 7:05.

Amarillo 6, Corpus Christi 4

CC home runs: Aníbal Sierra (3, 4 season; 2-run in 7th)

Corpus tied this game in the 7th... only to see Amarillo regain the lead and come away with the victory.

J.B. Bukauskas went six innings and allowed four runs on nine hits (solo and two-run homers), walked two, and struck out three. Tommy DeJuneas got the last two innings and he allowed two runs on two hits (solo homer), walked one, and struck out four.

Aníbal Sierra went 2-3 and his two-run shot in the 7th tied the game at 4. He also hit an RBI single in the 3rd. Stephen Wrenn drove in the other Corpus run with a sac fly in the 2nd.

Enoli Paredes faces Nick Margevicius at 6:05.

Myrtle Beach 3, Fayetteville 2

Fayetteville home runs: None.

Myrtle Beach got two in the 8th to snatch a win from the Woodpeckers' grasp.

Michael Papierski scored both Fayetteville runs in this game. He came home when Jeremy Peña grounded into a force out in the 1st and scored the other run on Chandler Taylor's triple in the 3rd. Taylor finished 2-3 on the evening.

Shawn Dubin allowed a run on two hits, walked one, and struck out nine in seven innings. César Rosado and Peter Solomon pitched an inning apiece with varying results. Rosado allowed two runs on two hits and walked two in the 8th, while Solomon, making his first appearance since being activated from the IL, allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out two in a scoreless 9th.

Austin Hansen starts game three of this series and he'll face Alexander Vargas at 6:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 7, Burlington 2

W- Cody Deason (5-3)
L- Cole Duensing (5-4)

The Banditos took the series as they went off for six runs in the 5th to seize control of this game. They also mowed down the Bees as Jonathan Bermúdez and Cody Deason combined to strike out 18.

Bermúdez, in his first career start, allowed two runs, one of which was an inherited runner that was charged to him, a solo homer, walked three, and struck out eight in 4.1 innings. Deason got the last 4.2 innings and he allowed a hit, walked two, and struck out a career-high ten.

Michael Wielansky went 2-3 with a couple of RBI singles. Alex McKenna also had two hits, one of which was an RBI single in that big 5th inning. He also stole a base (2) and scored twice. César Salazar finished with two hits and one of them was an RBI double.

Quad Cities will now begin a three-game series in Clinton. R.J. Freure will start game one and he'll face Tyler Mitzel at 6:30.

Aberdeen 3, Tri-City 0

L- Juan Pablo Lopez (1-2)

TC home runs: None.

The ValleyCats got blanked to extend their current skid to five games.

Korey Lee hit a triple out of the leadoff spot. Tri-City's only other hit in this game was a single from Zach Biermann.

Juan Pablo Lopez allowed three runs (two earned, one inherited runner charged to him) on four hits, walked two, and struck out three. Lupe Chavez allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out two in 4.1 innings, and Garrett Gayle worked around a walk to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out two.

Hunter Brown will start game two of this series. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

DSL Astros 3, DSL Red Sox1 1

The Domincan 'Stros scored three in the 4th and kept the Red Sox 1 in check.

Yohander Martinez scored their first run of the day by stealing home. Ayendy Ortiz, who finished 2-3 on the day, ripped a two-run double later in the inning.

Ronny Garcia went three innings and allowed a run on three hits, walked one, and struck out one. Misael Tamarez allowed three hits and walked two over four scoreless, and Cristofer Mezquita allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out four over the final two innings to get the save.

The Dominican 'Stros will face the Dodgers 1 (Bautista) at 11:00 AM Atlantic.

The Express got held in check on Sunday to slow down their recent rampage.

Corbin Martin went three innings and allowed four runs on seven hits, walked two, and struck out three. Ronel Blanco was the first man out of the Round Rock bullpen and he allowed five hits, one of which was a two-run homer. Blanco also walked one and struck out three in his 2.2 innings of work. Ralph Garza Jr. allowed a hit and fanned four over the final 2.1 innings.

Kyle Tucker opened the scoring by whacking a solo home run in the 1st inning. Round Rock got two more in the opening frame thanks to a Drew Ferguson sac fly and a Nick Tanielu single. Taylor Jones ripped an RBI double in the 3rd and A.J. Reed led off the 9th with a homer that cut the Bees' lead to one run. Tucker, Jones, and Aníbal Sierra all finished with two hits on the afternoon.

Brandon Bielak will start the series finale and he'll take on Matt Sandoval at 1:05 Mountain.

Amarillo 6, Corpus Christi 0

CC home runs: None.

The Hooks, doing business as the Raspas like they do every Sunday, had nothing going for them on offense. As a result, they had to settle for the split and they couldn't take sole possession of first place in the Texas League South. All four teams are separated by one game.

Chas McCormick doubled and drew a couple of walks.

Brett Adcock went four innings and allowed six runs (four earned) on five hits, walked one, and struck out two. Layne Henderson struck out one in a 1-2-3 5th, and Enoli Paredes threw four perfect innings in his Texas League debut, striking out five.

Corpus Christi has Monday off as they embark on their last roadtrip of the first half. The first leg begins on Tuesday with the opener of a three-game series against the Arkansas Travelers.

Wilmington 5, Fayetteville 3

Fayetteville home runs: Bryan de la Cruz (4, solo in 1st), Marty Costes (2, 4 season; solo in 4th), Michael Papierski (3, solo in 6th)

Well, they didn't lose in walk-off fashion, but the Woodpeckers got burned by another late rally from the Blue Rocks. Wilmington scored three in the bottom of the 8th to take the lead in this one.

J.P. France allowed two runs on three hits, walked two, and struck out four in six innings of work. César Rosado threw a scoreless 7th but everything unraveled on him in the 8th as he only got one out and left the bases for Leovanny Rodríguez, who couldn't get him out of the predicament. Rosado allowed a hit, walked two, struck out two, and all three of the runners that Leovanny inherited were all charged to him. Leovanny got the last two outs of the 8th, one via strikeout, but not before he allowed a go-ahead bases-clearing double.

Fayetteville's three runs came via the solo homer. Bryan de la Cruz led off the game with one, Marty Costes smacked one in the 4th, and Michael Papierski went deep to lead off the 6th. Papierski, Costes, and Jonathan Arauz all finished 2-4.

The Woodpeckers will start a three-game set with Myrtle Beach at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 5, Kane County 3

W- Joey Gonzalez (1-1, 1-2 season)

QC home runs: None.

The Banditos' bats came alive after a rain delay. Also, Cedar Rapids' split in their doubleheader with Peoria resulted in the Banditos clinching a playoff berth. Their magic number to clinch the division is now down to two.

José Bravo pitched six innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits, walked four, and struck out five. Joey Gonzalez came on after play resumed and he shut the Cougars down, allowing two hits and striking out five over the final three innings.

Freúdis Nova ripped an RBI double in the 4th to put Quad Cities on the board. With two outs in the 7th, Jeremy Peña kept the inning alive by legging out an infield single. César Salazar got plunked and David Hensley legged out an infield single of his own to load the bases for Freúdis, who brought Peña in... by getting plunked. That prompted Kane County to make a pitching change and Michael Wielansky greeted new Cougars pitcher Wesley Rodriguez with a bases-clearing double that put the Banditos in the lead. Wielansky, Peña, and Hensley all finished with two hits on the evening.

The Banditos and Cougars will wrap up this series at 6:35.

How were things down on the farm on the final day of May?

Round Rock 8, Iowa 1

RR home runs: Lorenzo Quintana 2 (2, 6 season; 2-run in 3rd, solo in 8th)

A Cuban player went off. It was not Yordan Alvarez, who went 0-2 and was intentionally walked three times. Instead, it was Yordan's compatriot, Lorenzo Quintana, who went off as he blasted his first two home runs at the Triple-A level. I'll get to that in a moment.

Rogelio Armenteros, another member of the Cuban contingent, went off on the mound as he allowed a run on three hits, walked two, and struck out seven in six innings of work. Gabriel Valdez walked one and struck out two over the final three innings.

Quintana opened the scoring with a two-run shot in the 3rd inning. Kyle Tucker scored on a wild pitch in the 5th inning. Round Rock got a pair of RBI singles from Alex De Goti and Drew Ferguson in the 6th and they tacked on three more runs in the 8th for good measure as Quintana led off the inning with his second homer of the evening and then they got a couple of bases-loaded walks from Taylor Jones and Nick Tanielu. Quintana was the only player on either side to finish with a multi-hit game.

José Hernández-Urquidy will take on Adbert Alzolay in game three of this series. First pitch is at 7:05.

Frisco 6, Corpus Christi 5 (12 innings)

The Hooks got back into this game with a grand slam before ultimately walking off with the loss in extras.

J.B. Bukauskas pitched 4.1 innings and allowed two runs on three hits, walked four, and struck out six. Hunter Martin was the first man out of the Corpus bullpen and the two runs he allowed in his 1.2 innings came on a homer. Martin also allowed two other hits and struck out one. Nick Hernandez and Colin McKee followed with two innings apiece. Hernandez struck out one in a perfect outing, while McKee allowed a run on two hits and walked two, one intentionally. Layne Henderson pitched a scoreless 11th inning but failed to record an out in the 12th, where the Roughriders scored the winning run against him. Henderson allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out one.

Corpus couldn't get anything going offensively until the 8th when they suddenly found themselves in a tie game when Abraham Toro launched a grand slam to put them on the board. Osvaldo Duarte started the 10th in scoring position and scored on Stephen Wrenn's double. Luis Santana led off the 12th at second base and advanced to third on an Alfredo Angarita sac bunt, but they couldn't push him across. Wrenn finished 2-6 on the evening.

Bryan Abreu gets the start for game two of this series and he'll go up against Tyler Phillips at 7:05.

Wilmington 5, Fayetteville 3

Fayetteville home runs: None.

Both teams scored in the same number of innings, but the difference here was the Blue Rocks putting up a pair of crooked numbers.

Jonathan Arauz extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a base hit in the 1st, put Fayetteville on the board with a sac fly in the 3rd, and scored on Michael Papierski's single in the 6th. Papierski drew a walk in the 9th and eventually scored on a single from Enmanuel Valdez. No one in the Woodpeckers lineup had more than one hit; Miguelangel Sierra's double was their only extra-base hit of the night.

Chad Donato went five innings and allowed three runs on five hits (two-run homer), walked one, and struck out four. Yohan Ramirez allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and struck out eight over the final four innings.

The Banditos came out on top to open this series between the top two teams in the Midwest League's Western Division as they scored more runs in one extra inning than they did in the nine regulation innings.

Michael Wielansky opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the 2nd and the Banditos got two more runs in the inning on a Carlos Machado RBI triple and an RBI single from Austin Dennis. David Hensley launched a two-run homer in the 4th. Let's fast-forward to the 10th.

Dennis started the 10th at second base and he didn't have to wait long to score because Jeremy Peña led things off with an RBI single. Freúdis Nova walked and then Ruben Castro ripped an RBI double to bring Peña home. Wielansky followed by adding a two-run triple to his ledger. Trey Dawson proceeded to draw a walk. Ross Adolph went down on strikes for the first out, but Machado came through with a two-run single. Dennis capped off the assault with an RBI single.

Everyone in the original starting nine scored at least once. Peña, who now has a 13-game hitting streak, finished 4-6 on the night. Machado finished 3-5, while Dennis and Wielansky had two hits apiece.

R.J. Freure got the start and the one run he allowed in his four innings came on a solo homer. Freure also allowed three other hits, walked four, and struck out eight. Manny Ramirez came on for the 5th but he only got one out via the strikeout. He allowed three runs (two earned, one inherited runner charged to him) and walked three.

Felipe Tejada was the next man up and the one run he allowed came on a solo homer. He also allowed one of Ramirez's runners to score, but the solo homer was the only run that he allowed and was charged to him. Overall, Tejada pitched 3.1 innings and allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out nine. Riley Cabral allowed a run on two hits and walked one in 1.1 innings, and things got a bit nervy in the bottom of the 10th as the Bees got four runs off of Cody Deason; three of them were earned. Deason allowed four hits, walked one, and struck out two.

Deason is listed as the starter for game two of this series but his appearance in the 10th inning nixed that. Whoever gets the start for Quad Cities will take on Luis Alvarado at 6:30.

The Express, doing business as the Round Rock Chupacabras, withstood a big night from San Antonio outfielder Troy Stokes Jr. as they took the series from their I-35 rivals.

Yordan Alvarez scored the first run of the night when Taylor Jones grounded into a double play in the 2nd inning. Kyle Tucker launched a two-run homer in the 3rd and A.J. Reed broke a 3-3 tie with a solo shot in the 6th. Jack Mayfield finished 2-4.

Ryan Hartman went five innings and allowed a run on four hits, walked one, and struck out five. Ralph Garza Jr. was the first man out of the Round Rock bullpen and the one hit he allowed in his three innings was a two-run homer hit by Stokes, who drove in all three of San Antonio's runs in this game. Ronel Blanco escaped a bases-loaded predicament to get the save; he allowed a hit, walked two, and struck out one in the 9th.

The Express will head to Nashville to play six games. One of them is a game that began on April 18 but was suspended due to the weather. Cionel Pérez will start game one and he'll face Ronald Herrera at 6:35.

Frisco 7, Corpus Christi 2

The Roughriders pulled away on Friday night... Corpus had ten hits but only had two runs to show for it.

Abraham Toro went 2-3 and opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st inning. Josh Rojas finished 3-5 and ripped an RBI double in the 2nd.

Carson LaRue allowed six runs on ten hits, walked one, and struck out two in five innings. Layne Henderson and Hunter Martin both threw two innings out of the bullpen. Henderson allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out one in a scoreless outing and Martin allowed a run on two hits and struck out one.

J.B. Bukauskas will take on Jonathan Hernandez in game three of this series. First pitch is at 7:15.

Lynchburg 5, Fayetteville 4

The Woodpeckers tied the game with a run in the 9th... only to walk off with a loss yet again. That makes it three straight games ending in walk-off losses and seven in this fashion on the year.

Chad Donato went 4.1 innings and allowed four runs (one inherited runner charged to him) on seven hits, walked three, and struck out two. Tommy DeJuneas was the first man out of the Fayetteville bullpen and he allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out three in 2.2 innings. Tanner Duncan pitched a scoreless 8th, but the Hillcats got the first three men on base in the 9th and scored the winning run against him. In 1+ inning, Duncan allowed the winning run on three hits, walked two, and struck out two.

Jacob Meyers scored the first run of the night on an errant pickoff throw in the 1st inning. Alfredo Angarita hit a sac fly to bring in Enmanuel Valdez in the 2nd and then Valdez smacked his first Carolina League home run in the 4th. Jonathan Arauz hit an RBI single in the 9th that tied the game at 4. Michael Papierski finished 3-4 on the night.

Yohan Ramirez will face Jean Carlos Mejía in game two of this series. First pitch is at 6:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 12, Wisconsin 3

Fun game. Everyone in the lineup had a hit and scored a run. Well... Alex Holderbach didn't score, but he did have a hit. Hopefully, the Banditos can finally settle in at home without the threat of flooding.

The one hit that R.J. Freure allowed in his five innings was a two-run homer hit by Connor McVey. Freure walked three and struck out six. Matt Ruppenthal struck out four over three perfect innings. Felipe Tejada allowed a run on a sac fly, two hits, and he also recorded a strikeout in the 9th.

Ross Adolph scored the first run of the game when Austin Dennis hit into a fielder's choice in the 3rd. Jeremy Peña scored another run on Marty Costes' groundout. In the 5th, Peña whacked a two-run homer and Quad Cities also got a pair of RBI singles from Trey Dawson and Michael Wielansky. Peña added a sac fly to his ledger in the 6th and Adolph smacked an RBI triple in the 7th. The Banditos capped things off in the 8th as Alex Holderbach hit a sac fly, Dawson ripped an RBI double, and Wielansky added another RBI single. Peña, Dawson, Wielansky, and Adolph all finished with two hits on the evening.
