Shirley had a breakout season in 2014, starting the year in AA Corpus Christi and ending it in AAA Oklahoma City. In 30 games (16 starts), he had a 2.53 ERA and a 1.099 WHIP. He walked 32 and struck out 100 in 117.1 innings of work.

An international signing out of the Dominican Republic, Pineda played his first professional season with the Dominican Summer League team, hitting .279/.384/.312 in 65 games.

Coming off an injury, Shirley pitched only a few innings in 2011, but got stretched out a bit in 2012 as he pitched a total of 42 and a third innings out of the bullpen for Tri-City (three appearances) and then Lexington (16 appearances). He ended the season with a 3-4 record, a 2.76 ERA and a 1.299 WHIP.

After an injury-shortened 2010 in which he posted a 0.00 ERA and a 1.118 WHIP over five starts, Shirley pitched a few innings, mostly rehab, in 2011. In 13 innings, he gave up six hits, three runs and five walks with 15 strikeouts and compiled a 2.08 ERA and a 0.846 WHIP. I think we all look forward to seeing what he can do in 2012 if he stays healthy.
