Northwest Arkansas 9, Corpus Christi 8
W- Ali Williams (5-2)
L- Kyle Smith (4-5, 8-5 season)
S- Mark Peterson (1)
CC home runs: None.
The Hooks allowed a pair of 4-run innings, but a Mitch Maier homer in the 7th turned out to be the difference for the Naturals. Corpus attempted a comeback that fell just short.
Jonathan Meyer opened up the scoring with an RBI double in the 4th. Colin Moran, who scored on that play, added an RBI double of his own in the 5th. A 3-run 6th gave the Hooks a 5-4 lead, as they got an RBI single from Conrad Gregor, an RBI double from Delino DeShields, and a sac fly from Tony Kemp. Unfortunately, that lead was short-lived, as the Naturals answered with 5 unanswered. However, the Hooks didn't go away. DeShields grounded into a force out that scored M.P. Cokinos, Kemp added an RBI groundout that scored Gregor, and Teoscar Hernandez added an RBI single. In the 9th, Leo Heras ripped a triple with 1 out. A Cokinos groundout followed for out #2, and then Gregor drew a walk. With Brandon Meredith at the plate, Heras bolted for home on a 1-2 pitch in the dirt, but unfortunately, he was thwarted by the pitcher, Mark Peterson.
DeShields finished 2-5 with 2 runs scored. Moran also went 2-5. Heras was 2-4, and Gregor reached in all 5 of his plate appearances, going 2-2 with 2 runs scored and 3 walks.
Jordan Jankowski went 4 innings and allowed 4 runs on 7 hits and struck out 3. Kyle Smith just didn't have it, as he allowed 4 runs in 2 innings. 3 came on a bases-clearing double (the only hit he allowed) and the other run scored on a HBP with the bases loaded. Smith also walked 3 and struck out 2. Kyle Weiland allowed a solo homer to Mitch Maier in the 7th. He allowed 2 other hits in the inning. Tyson Perez fanned out 2 in a 1-2-3 9th.
In the series finale, Chris Devenski will take on Christian Binford at 7:05.
Lancaster 3, Modesto 2
W- Kent Emanuel (7-3, 7-5 season)
L- Mike Piazza (0-1)
S- Jamaine Cotton (12)
Lancaster home runs: None.
The JetHawks hung on to take the series behind a strong performance from the lefty, Kent Emanuel.
Emanuel went 8 innings and allowed a run, scattered 6 hits, and struck out 1. Jamaine Cotton allowed a solo homer to Francisco Sosa with 2 outs in the 9th. That was the only bump in the road for him, as he was able to finish the game off. He struck out 2 in the inning.
Jon Kemmer scored the game's first run when he came home while Ronnie Mitchell grounded into a double play in the 2nd. He finished 2-4 with a double and scored 2 of the 3 JetHawks runs. In the 3rd, Brett Phillips led off the inning with a triple and scored himself on the same play when the relay throw from the outfield nailed him in the back. Nuts 3B Rosell Herrera was charged with an error on the play. The Nuts got a run in the 6th to make it a 2-1 game, but the JetHawks got a big insurance run in the 9th when Kemmer scored on a Catfish Elkins groundout. Kemmer had reached on another error from Herrera to begin the inning. Phillips and Rio Ruiz also finished 2-4, while Elkins went 2-3.
The JetHawks' roadtrip continues with a 4-game stop in San Jose. In the opener, Matt Heidenreich will take on Nick Vander Tuig. First pitch is at 9:00.
Quad Cities 5, Burlington 3
W- Edison Frias (8-5)
L- Harrison Cooney (8-6)
S- Frederick Tiburcio (7)
QC home runs: None.
After dropping the opener, the River Bandits responded by taking the next 2 games to win the series. The River Bandits were down 2-0 thanks to a Bo Way 2-run homer in the 3rd for the Bees, but they responded by scoring the next 5 runs.
George Springer walked to lead off the 4th, advanced to 3rd on an A.J. Reed double, and scored on a Ryan Bottger groundout. That would be the end of his rehab stint, as he's back in Houston for re-evaluation after tweaking his strained left quad.
In the 5th, the Banditos got a pair of RBI doubles from Chase McDonald and Reed. Andrew Reed was the only player on either side with a multi-hit game with his 2 doubles.
Edison Frias went 7.1 innings and allowed 3 runs (1 inherited runner charged to him) on 4 hits (2-run homer), walked 1, and struck out 6. Chris Cotton got the final 2 outs of the 8th, 1 via strikeout. He did uncork a wild pitch that allowed Frias' runner to score. Frederick Tiburcio finished it off with 2 strikeouts in a 1-2-3 9th.
The River Bandits will now welcome Beloit to Modern Woodmen Park for 4 beginning tonight at 7:00. In the opener, Adrian Houser will take on Lou Trivino.
Tri-City 3, Auburn 2
W- Joe Musgrove (5-1)
L- James Bourque (1-4)
S- Derick Velazquez (3)
TC home runs: None.
The ValleyCats were able to hold off the Doubledays as they won their 5th in a row.
Jose Solano grounded into a force out that scored Terrell Joyce in the 2nd to open the scoring. Joyce was involved in all 3 ValleyCats runs, as he hit a 2-run single in the 3rd inning. Solano had 2 stolen bases (6). Bobby Boyd went 2-5 with a steal (12). Joyce and Mott Hyde both finished 2-4, and Nick Tanielu went 3-5 with a run scored.
Joe Musgrove allowed a run on 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 8 in 6 innings. This was the first outing in which he issued more than 1 walk. Bryan Radziewski tagged in to throw 2 scoreless, allowing a hit and striking out 1. Derick Velazquez quickly got the first 2 outs of the 9th, but all of a sudden, he found getting that last out a bit tougher than he expected. He allowed a double, and then a wild pitch moved the runner to 3rd. Velazquez then allowed an RBI infield single that cut the TC lead to 3-2. But, he buckled down and struck out Osvaldo Abreu to end the game. He also struck out Jose Marmolejos-Diaz for the first out of the inning.
In the middle game of this series, Luis Ordosgoitti will take on Austen Williams at 6:05.
Greeneville was off
The Appy Astros will kick off a 3-game series in Pulaski starting tonight at 6:00.
GCL Blue Jays 6, GCL Astros 1

The GCLstros are in Dunedin for a game against the very same Blue Jays. First pitch is at 11:00 A.M.
DSL Astros Blue and DSL Athletics was postponed
I believe that this is the first rainout of a DSL Astros game this season. I assume they're playing a doubleheader today.
DSL Rangers1 4, DSL Astros Orange 1 in 13 innings
W- Roberto Liriano (4-0)
L- Ramon Rodriguez (1-1)
Orange home runs: None.
The lone Orange run came way back in the 3rd on an RBI single from Anardo Peralta. Hayden Timberlake went 2-4.
Edgardo Sandoval allowed 3 hits and struck out 2 over 7 shutout innings. Diogenes Almengo was the first man out; he went 5 innings and allowed a run on 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. Ramon Rodriguez pitched 2 innings and allowed 3 runs on 4 hits.
