The Hooks fought back late but a 3-run 6th from the Cardinals put the game just out of their reach.
Garrett Stubbs scored Corpus Christi's first run when he came home on a double play in the 5th. Jon Singleton scored another run on a double play in the 7th, and one batter later, Trent Woodward hit an RBI single. Kyle Tucker launched his first Texas League homer in the 8th, a solo shot that cut the deficit to one run. He and Stubbs both finished 2-4 on the evening.
Rogelio Armenteros went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. Josh James pitched the last 3 innings and allowed 3 runs on 4 hits and struck out 3.
Corpus will look to avoid the sweep as Cy Sneed gets the start. He'll face Matt Pearce at 7:10.
Carolina 9, Buies Creek 8

The Mudcats came out on top in a topsy-turvy affair.
Ryan Hartman got roughed up in his Carolina League debut; he only went 3.2 innings and allowed 6 runs on 6 hits (3-run homer), walked 4, and struck out 1. Howie Brey was the first man out of the Buies Creek bullpen and went 1.1 innings, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on a sac fly and an error, a double, walked 3, and struck out 2. The one run that Brett Adcock allowed in his 4 innings was a solo homer hit by Isan Diaz in the 6th. He allowed 2 other hits, walked 2, and struck out 4.
Spencer Johnson put the Carolina Stros on the board with a 2-run triple in the 2nd inning and came home on a single from Dex McCall. In the 3rd, Alex De Goti ripped an RBI double and scored on an error that allowed McCall to reach. Buies Creek got a pair of RBI singles from Anibal Sierra and Myles Straw in the 5th. McCall ripped an RBI double in the 9th, but De Goti was thrown out at home trying to score the tying run, which ended the game.
McCall (2B, RBI, R), Jake Rogers (2B, 3 R), and De Goti (RBI, 2 BB, 3 R) finished with 2 hits apiece. Stephen Wrenn, who was also making his Carolina League debut along with De Goti and Hartman, went 1-5 and stole a base, his 9th of the year.
Game 2 of this series has Jorge Alcala taking on Marcos Diplan. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

Rough night for the Banditos offense as they only had 3 hits and struck out 17 times.
Daz Cameron doubled, which was their only extra-base hit. The other two hits were singles from Taylor Jones and Yordan Alvarez.
Enoli Paredes walked 1 and struck out 5 over 5 no-hit innings. The Kernels got to Yohan Ramirez in his 2.2 innings; he allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. Salvador MontaƱo got the final out of the 8th.
Quad Cities and Cedar Rapids will wrap up this series at 6:35.
