Triple-A All-Star Break

The 2019 Triple-A All-Star Game will take place on Wednesday in El Paso. Kyle Tucker will represent Round Rock on the Pacific Coast League All-Star Team.

Round Rock returns to action on Thursday when they welcome Iowa to Dell Diamond for a four-game series.

Frisco 7, Corpus Christi 4

W- Jonathan Hernandez (4-7)
L- Yohan Ramírez (2-4)
S- Emmanuel Clase (7)

CC home runs: Abraham Toro (14, solo in 4th)

A four-run 5th inning from the Roughriders helped propel them to the victory.

Abraham Toro put Corpus on the board when he smacked a solo homer in the 4th inning. The Hooks got three in the 6th thanks to an RBI double from Lorenzo Quintana, an RBI single from J.J. Matijevic, and a Stephen Wrenn sac fly. Toro finished 3-5 on the night and scored twice.

Yohan Ramírez went three innings and allowed two runs on three hits, walked four, and struck out four. Colin McKee was the first man out of the Hooks bullpen and he allowed a run (inherited runner that was charged to him), two hits, walked one, and struck out two in 1.1 innings.

Joe Smith made what's expected to be his final rehab appearance before he rejoins the Astros for the second half. He pitched an inning (final two outs of the 6th and the first out of the 7th) and allowed three runs on four hits (solo and three-run home runs) and struck out one. One of the runs on the three-run homer that Smith allowed was charged to McKee. Brett Adcock pitched the final 2.2 innings and allowed an RBI double, walked one, and struck out two.

Enoli Paredes will get the start as the Hooks look to avoid the sweep. He'll face Jason Bahr at 7:05.

Potomac 7, Fayetteville 6 (10 innings)

W- Frankie Bartow (1-2)
L- César Rosado (2-5)

Fayetteville home runs: Miguelangel Sierra (7, solo in 2nd), Enmanuel Valdez (6, 3-run in 4th), Jacob Meyers (8, solo in 6th)

This may come as a shock to you, but Fayetteville walked off with another loss. This is the 11th time that the Woodpeckers have lost in walk-off fashion this season.

Shawn Dubin pitched 4.2 innings and allowed three runs (one inherited runner charged to him) on three hits, walked two, and struck out six. Joey Gonzalez got the final out of the 5th but not before allowing two hits, one of which was an RBI single that allowed the runner he inherited from Dubin to score. Brett Conine was next and he allowed two runs, both of which were inherited runners that were charged to him, on five hits, walked four, and struck out five in 3.2 innings of work. Miguel Figueroa got the final out of the 9th but the P-Nats tied the game on his watch. César Rosado got one out in the 10th and the winning run scored on a fielder's choice.

Miguelangel Sierra opened the scoring by launching a solo homer in the 2nd inning. Enmanuel Valdez whacked a three-run home run in the 4th, and Jacob Meyers led off the 6th with a homer. Jake Adams hit an RBI single in the 7th. Meyers and Jonathan Arauz both finished with two hits on the afternoon.

The two teams that Fayetteville faced on this roadtrip (Winston-Salem and Potomac) will now travel to SEGRA Stadium. The Woodpeckers will start a three-game set with the Dash at 7:00 Eastern. Nivaldo Rodríguez will start game one and he'll be opposed by Kade McClure.

Quad Cities was off

The Banditos are in Comstock Park, Michigan (just outside Grand Rapids) and they'll start a three-game series with the West Michigan Whitecaps at 7:05 Eastern. Jonathan Bermúdez will face Wilkel Hernandez in game one.

Tri-City 6, Brooklyn 5 (10 innings)

W- Michael Horrell (1-0)
L- Luis Silva (1-1)

TC home runs: Wilyer Abreu (1, solo in 3rd), Preston Pavlica (2, 3-run in 7th), Nathan Perry (3, walk-off 2-run in 10th)

The Cyclones tied the game with two in the 9th and took the lead in the first extra frame, but the ValleyCats fought back and walked off with the victory.

All of Tri-City's runs in this game came via the home run. Wilyer Abreu put Tri-City on the board when he led off the 3rd with one, the first of his professional career. Preston Pavlica put the ValleyCats in front when he launched a three-run shot with two outs in the 7th inning. Pavlica started the 10th in scoring position and he didn't have to wait long to score because Nathan Perry ended the game by leading off the bottom of the 10th with a walk-off two-run blast. Perry finished 2-4 on the day. Bryan Arias had a couple of hits and stole a base.

Juan Pablo Lopez pitched five innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and issued a walk. Valente Bellozo couldn't quite get that final out of the game. He allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out four in 3.2 innings. Michael Horrell threw 1.1 innings to get the win; he allowed a run in the 10th on a sac fly, a hit, and struck out two.

Hunter Brown will get the start as the ValleyCats welcome the State College Spikes to the Capital Region. He'll face Scott Politz, a Yale grad from Austin, at 7:05 Eastern.

GCL Marlins 13, GCL Astros 9

W- Eliezer Rodríguez (1-0)
L- Diosmerky Taveras (1-1)

GCL home runs: None.

The Palm Beach 'Stros had a little comeback going with five runs in the 9th... but unfortunately, the Marlins' 8-0 lead after the first two innings held up comfortably.

Well, it wasn't a great day for the Palm Beach 'Stros' pitchers, but Jherson Pereira was a bit of a bright spot as he allowed a run on two hits, walked two, and struck out five in 3.2 innings.

Franklin Pinto and Yefri Carrillo both hit RBI doubles and scored two runs from the bottom of the order. Rolando Espinosa finished 2-4 with an RBI single in the 3rd inning.

The Astros will take on their complex mates, the Nationals, at noon Eastern.

DSL Astros 3, DSL Athletics 0

W- Jeremy Molero (3-0)
L- Roberto Garza (0-3)
S- Edinson Batista (1)

DSL home runs: None.

The Dominican 'Stros broke the deadlock late and three pitchers combined to keep the A's off the board.

Ricardo León allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out three over the first three innings. Jeremy Molero allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out six in four innings and Edinson Batista allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out three over the final two innings to complete the shutout.

Yohander Martinez singled to lead off the bottom of the 7th and he scored the first run of the game on Carlos Hurtado's triple. Hurtado came in on Andrés Monzón's single. Martinez hit an RBI infield single in the 8th; he, Hurtado, and Cristian Gonzalez all finished with two hits on the day.

These two teams will play again at the A's complex at 11:30 AM Atlantic.

Round Rock was off

The E-Train is heading west this week and they will begin a three-game series in Las Vegas at 7:05 Pacific.

Corpus Christi 4, Midland 3

W- Brett Adcock (1-5)
L- Matt Milburn (2-3)
S- Colin McKee (4)

CC home runs: Granden Goetzman (12, 2-run in 3rd)

Both teams scored in one inning. Luckily for the Hooks, they scored more in their inning as they got four runs on a two-run double from Seth Beer and a two-run home run from Granden Goetzman. Abraham Toro went 2-4 and was the only player on either side to finish with a multi-hit game.

Brett Adcock pitched seven innings and allowed three runs, all in the 4th, on four hits, walked two, and struck out four. Nick Hernandez hit two batters and struck out three in 1.2 innings and Colin McKee induced a force out to end the game.

Brandon Bailey goes up against James Naile in game two of this series. First pitch is at 6:15.

Winston-Salem 4, Fayetteville 2

W- Konner Pilkington (1-1)
L- Nivaldo Rodríguez (0-3, 3-4 season)
S- Jake Elliott (1)

Fayetteville home runs: None.

The Woodpeckers had another late rally brewing but once again, it got snuffed out. They left the bases loaded to end the game.

Nivaldo Rodríguez pitched five innings and allowed three runs (two earned), a solo homer, walked one, and struck out four. Enoli Paredes got the last four innings and one of the two hits he allowed was a solo homer. Paredes walked one and struck out six.

Fayetteville got a pair of RBI doubles from Bryan de la Cruz and Jonathan Arauz in the 3rd inning. Those were the Woodpeckers' only extra-base hits on the night.

The Woodpeckers and Dash will wrap up this series at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities was off

The Banditos will start a three-game series against Peoria at 6:35. Unfortunately, a renewed flooding threat in the Quad Cities has forced this series to relocate to Peoria. José Bravo will take on Colin Schmid in game one.

DSL Astros 10, DSL Royals1 4

W- Marcos Eusebio (1-0)
L- Samuel Valerio (0-1)

DSL home runs: Miguel Palma (1, solo in 6th)

The Academy rode an early offensive outburst to a win on Monday.

Jonarkys Lopez opened things up in the 2nd with a two-run triple and he wound up scoring on a base hit from Tomás Ramirez. Cristian Gonzalez ripped an RBI double to bring Ramirez home and Sebastian Grullón hit an RBI single. Lopez led off the 4th with a triple and scored when Andrés Monzón hit into a groundout. Ramirez stole home and then Gonzalez smacked an RBI triple. Ayendy Ortiz hit an RBI single in the 5th and Miguel Palma launched his first career home run in the 6th.

Fabricio Reina pitched four innings and he allowed a run on a groundout, a triple, walked one, and struck out three. Daniel Pacheco was the first man out of the bullpen and he allowed three runs (two inherited runners charged to him) on two hits, walked five, and struck out one. Marcos Eusebio allowed a hit, walked two, and struck out two in 1.2 innings. Edinson Batista and Juan De Los Santos pitched a scoreless inning apiece; Batista allowed a hit and walked one in the 8th, while De Los Santos walked one in the 9th.

The Astros will face the Rays 1 at 11:30 AM Atlantic.

Astros Minor League Recaps

Results for Monday, May 6, 2019

Round Rock 6, San Antonio 5

W- Ryan Hartman (4-0)
L- Jake Petricka (0-1)
S- Reymin Guduan (2)

RR home runs: Yordan Alvarez (13, solo in 4th), Jack Mayfield (6, 2-run in 9th)

Yordan Alvarez's rampage continued and the Express successfully staved off a late rally from the Missions to escape with the win and earn a series split.

Alvarez put Round Rock on the board when he smacked a solo homer in the 4th and Alex De Goti ripped an RBI double in the 5th that tied the game at 2. Drew Ferguson put the Express in front with an RBI double in the 7th and eventually scored when Myles Straw beat a double play attempt.

Jack Mayfield launched a two-run home run in the 9th that proved to be extremely crucial as the Missions decided to stage an uprising in the 9th inning that cut Round Rock's lead to one run. Alvarez finished 2-4 and also hit a double; he was the only player in the Express lineup to finish with more than one hit.

Ryan Hartman had a solid outing as the two runs he allowed in his six innings came off solo homers. Hartman allowed three other hits, walked two, and struck out two. José Bravo, in his Triple-A debut, went two innings and allowed two runs (one inherited runner charged to him) on three hits (solo homer), walked one, and struck out three. Reymin Guduan ended up taking ownership of the 9th; he allowed a run of his own on a fielder's choice, an RBI double from Jacob Nottingham that allowed the runner he inherited from Bravo to score, and walked one.

Corbin Martin will take on Heath Fillmyer in the first of a four-game series in Omaha. First pitch is at 6:35.

Tulsa 6, Corpus Christi 1

W- Nolan Long (1-0)
L- Brandon Bailey (0-1)

CC home runs: None.

The Hooks were shackled as they could only manage to record two hits on the afternoon. They managed to tie the game at 1, but the Drillers went on a run to seal the victory.

Josh Rojas ripped an RBI double in the 7th for the only Corpus run. The other hit belonged to Chas McCormick, who also leaped over the wall to make a catch in this game:

Rojas and Osvaldo Duarte both stole a base in this game; Rojas now has eleven steals on the season, while Duarte now has six.

Brett Adcock went five innings and the one run he allowed came on a solo home run hit by Gavin Lux, who has proven to be a massive problem for Corpus Christi's pitchers in this series. Adcock allowed one other hit, walked four, and struck out six. The Drillers, well... drilled Brandon Bailey; in his 2.2 innings, Bailey allowed five runs on seven hits (solo and two-run homers), walked two, and struck out three. One of the homers he allowed came off the bat of... you guessed it, Lux, who now has four home runs in the first three games of this series. Kit Scheetz recorded the final out of the 8th.

The Hooks and Drillers will conclude their series tonight at 7:05 as Brandon Bielak takes on J.D. Martin.

Fayetteville was off

The Woodpeckers will begin a three-game series in Carolina tonight at 7:00 Eastern. Yohan Ramirez, who celebrated his 24th birthday yesterday, will go up against Dylan File.

Quad Cities 4, Lansing 2

W- Austin Hansen (4-1)
L- Cobi Johnson (0-2)
S- Riley Cabral (3)

QC home runs: None.

Due to the ongoing flooding situation in the Quad Cities, this series was moved to Duane Banks Field on the campus of the University of Iowa.

Austin Hansen was masterful once again as he allowed just one hit, walked two, and struck out ten over seven shutout innings of work. It's the second time this season that Hansen has recorded double-digit strikeouts in an outing. Jonathan Bermúdez and Riley Cabral both pitched an inning; Bermúdez got the 8th and allowed two runs on two hits, walked two, and struck out one. Cabral closed it out by striking out one in a 1-2-3 9th.

Enmanuel Valdez had a hand in all of Quad Cities' scoring plays in this game; he opened the scoring by driving in a run with a groundout in the 1st inning. He then ripped a two-run double in the 7th and wound up scoring on a Jonathan Lacroix groundout. Austin Dennis went 2-4 and scored twice, while Jeremy Peña finished 2-3 and stole a couple of bases, giving him ten on the season.

Brett Conine gets the start in game two of this series. First pitch is at 6:35.

Let's play two in Buies Creek and Troy!

Fresno 9, Memphis 3

W- Trent Thornton (8-7)
L- Kevin Herget (8-8)

Fresno home runs: Yordan Alvarez (5, 17 season; grand slam in 3rd)

The second leg of Fresno's tour of Tennessee started off on a much more pleasant note.

Trent Thornton allowed two runs on seven hits, walked one, and struck out one in seven innings. Matt Ramsey and Reymin Guduan pitched one inning apiece; Ramsey allowed a solo homer and struck out one in the 8th, while Guduan issued a walk and struck out two in a scoreless 9th.

Jack Mayfield doubled to start the 2nd inning and he ended up scoring the first run of the evening when Nick Tanielu took his spot at second base. Yordan Alvarez busted this game open with his grand slam in the 3rd inning. Fresno tacked on three more in the 4th as D.J. Fisher drove in a run with a base hit and Kyle Tucker brought two more in with his single. Tanielu led off the 8th with a double and scored the last Fresno run on a single from Garrett Stubbs.

Fisher (2B, RBI, 2 R, SB), Tucker (2 RBI, R), Tanielu (2 2B, RBI, R), and Alex De Goti (2B, R) all finished with two hits on the night. De Goti had a nice showing to begin his second stint with the Grizzlies; he got into five games for them at the end of last season.

Josh James will face Connor Jones in game two of this series. First pitch is at 2:05.

Frisco 5, Corpus Christi 3

W- Ryne Slack (2-3)
L- Framber Valdez (4-5)
S- Tyler Davis (3)

CC home runs: Ronnie Dawson (1, 11 season; solo in 1st), Carlos Correa (1, solo in 4th)

The Hooks scored in more innings, but the Roughriders put up the only crooked number in this game.

Ronnie Dawson wasted little time in getting things started when he smacked a home run to begin the game. Carlos Correa launched an absolute bomb in the 4th, and Lorenzo Quintana hit an RBI single in the 7th inning. Dawson finished 3-4; the homer was his first in the Texas League. He was the only person in the Corpus lineup to finish with more than one hit in this game.

Brett Adcock went five innings and allowed a run on three hits, walked two, and struck out five. Framber Valdez threw a scoreless 6th after tagging in but the wheels fell off for him in the 7th. Framber ultimately went 1.2 innings and allowed four runs on four hits (two-run homer), walked one, and struck out four. Justin Ferrell got the last out of the 7th and pitched a scoreless 8th; he allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out one in 1.1 innings.

The Hooks will look to avoid the sweep as they'll send Corbin Martin out for the series finale. He'll face Yohander Mendez at 7:05.

Game 1: Buies Creek 6, Lynchburg 2

W- Colin McKee (2-1, 5-2 season)
L- Tanner Tully (3-10)

BC home runs: Jake Adams (5, 13 season; solo in 2nd), Cody Bohanek (1, 5 season; 2-run in 5th), Carlos Canelón (3, solo in 5th)

The Carolina Stros smacked three home runs as they took the first game of the twinbill.

Jake Adams went 3-3 and scored three runs. He opened up the scoring with his solo blast in the 2nd inning. Cody Bohanek launched a two-run homer in the 5th and one batter later, Carlos Canelón made it back-to-back homers with his solo shot. Corey Julks added another run with an RBI single. Canelón finished 2-3 and capped off the scoring in game one with an RBI single in the 6th inning.

Tyler Ivey allowed two runs on two hits, walked four, and struck out four in 4.1 innings of work. Both of the runs were inherited runners that scored. Colin McKee pitched the last 2.2 innings and he technically turned in a scoreless outing, although both of Ivey's runners scored on his watch. He allowed a hit and struck out three.

Game 2: Lynchburg 7, Buies Creek 1

W- Jared Robinson (3-3)
L- Cristian Javier (3-4, 5-6 season)

BC home runs: None.

The Hillcats administered a beatdown in game two.

Cristian Javier went through his roughest outing of the year as he allowed seven runs (one inherited runner charged to him) on six hits (three-run homer), walked four, and struck out three in 4.1 innings. Carlos Sanabria allowed a hit, walked two, and fanned two in 1.2 innings, and Tommy DeJuneas struck out two in a 1-2-3 7th.

J.J. Matijevic went 2-3 with a double and scored the lone Buies Creek run when Bryan de la Cruz grounded out in the 4th inning.

Carson LaRue will face Eli Morgan in the series finale. First pitch is at 2:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 3, Peoria 2 in 10 innings

W- Humberto Castellanos (2-2)
L- Thomas St. Clair (2-3)
S- Willy Collado (5)

QC home runs: Chandler Taylor (5, solo in 9th)

It took nine innings, but the Banditos offense woke up and stole this game from right under the Chiefs.

Chandler Taylor's solo blast in the 9th inning tied the game at 1. Marty Costes started the 10th in scoring position and scored the go-ahead run on Ruben Castro's base hit. Castro advanced when Taylor drew a walk and scored on an error that allowed Alfredo Angarita to reach. Castro went 2-5, while Jonathan Lacroix finished 3-5 with a double.

César Rosado allowed a run on four hits, walked one, and struck out six over seven innings. Humberto Castellanos tagged in for two scoreless innings and allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out three. Willy Collado allowed an unearned run on a groundout, a hit, and struck out one in the 10th.

Leovanny Rodriguez will face Paul Balestrieri in game three of this series. First pitch is at 2:00.

Game 1: Tri-City 6, Lowell 3

W- Nivaldo Rodriguez (2-1)
L- Taylor Ahearn (2-3)

TC home runs: Jeremy Peña (1, 2-run in 4th)

The ValleyCats' early offensive outburst in game one spurred them to a win.

Nivaldo Rodriguez turned in a solid outing as he allowed a run on two hits, walked two, and struck out two. Riley Cabral allowed two unearned runs, a double, walked one, and struck out one in the 7th.

Alex Holderbach opened the scoring with a sac fly in the 2nd inning. Later in the frame, César Salazar drove in two with a single. Andy Piñeda led off the 3rd with a double; he stole third and scored on a sac fly from Enmanuel Valdez. Jeremy Peña launched a two-run homer in the 4th, which was his first home run as a pro. Carlos Machado went 2-3 with a double and scored a run and Austin Dennis finished 3-3 with a couple of stolen bases and also scored a run.

Game 2: Lowell 2, Tri-City 1 in 8 innings

W- Andrew Politi (1-1)
L- Tim Hardy (2-2)

TC home runs: None.

The ValleyCats were nipped by a run in the 8th inning in game two.

Austin Dennis doubled in the 5th and Michael Wielansky brought him in with a base hit.

Mark Moclair started things off in game two by walking two and striking out six over three no-hit innings. Carlos Hiraldo tagged in for four innings and allowed a run on four hits and struck out seven. Tim Hardy allowed an unearned run on a single and struck out two in the 8th inning.

Tri-City will start a three-game series in Connecticut at 4:05 Eastern.

DSL Marlins 2, DSL Astros 0

W- Rafael Eysseric (2-1)
L- Heitor Tokar (0-1)
S- Geremy Galindez (9)

DSL home runs: None.

The Academy got shut out on Saturday.

Franklin Pinto doubled and stole a base (11).

Jose Antonio Hernandez went four innings and allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out one. Heitor Tokar was the first man out of the DSLstros bullpen and he allowed a run on three hits, walked one, and struck out two in three innings. Alex Blanco allowed a run on two hits and walked one in the 8th inning.

Fresno 8, Sacramento 7 in 10 innings

W- Brendan McCury (4-4)
L- Derek Law (1-1)

Fresno home runs: Antonio Nuñez (1, 2-run in 5th), D.J. Fisher (8, grand slam in 8th)

The Tacos walked off with the victory to earn the split in this series. They trailed by four runs in two separate instances and erased both of these deficits each time.

Tony Nuñez put Fresno on the board with his two-run blast in the 5th. Fresno loaded the bases with one out in the 6th thanks to three walks, but all they got out of that was one run when Jamie Ritchie drew a walk. They didn't let another one of those opportunities slip by in the 8th because D.J. Fisher unloaded on a Josh Osich pitch and brought everyone in with a grand slam that put Fresno up 7-6. The Rivercats tied the game with a run in the 9th but Fresno kept them off the board in the 10th.

Yordan Alvarez was scheduled to start the bottom of the 10th in scoring position before Jake Marisnick came in to run for him. Jake moved to third on a sac bunt and then Ritchie walked and advanced to second on defensive indifference. Nuñez was next and he won the game with a sac fly. Fisher and Alvarez had two hits apiece.

Mike Hauschild went 5.2 innings and allowed six runs (five earned, one inherited runner charged to him) on six hits (solo and two-run homers), walked three, and struck out six. Reymin Guduan was the first man out of the Tacos bullpen and went 1.1 innings, allowing three hits and striking out one. Ken Giles struck out two in a 1-2-3 8th, and Brendan McCurry allowed a run on two hits and struck out two in two innings.

The Grizzlies will begin a three-game series in Albuquerque tonight at 6:35 Mountain. Brock Dykxhoorn will take on Peter Lambert in the opener. These two teams will also finish up a suspended game that they started on June 3; they'll do that on Saturday before playing the regularly scheduled contest.

Midland 3, Corpus Christi 1

W- Jesús Luzardo (7-3)
L- Hector Perez (0-1, 3-4 season)
S- Kyle Finnegan (3)

CC home runs: None.

The Hooks' bats went missing somewhere between San Angelo and Midland. Either that, or Jesús Luzardo rendered them useless.

Alex De Goti's RBI single in the 7th constituted the lone Corpus scoring play in this game; no one in the lineup had an extra-base hit.

Hector Perez lost his first Texas League start as he allowed three runs on six hits, walked four, and struck out six in 4.2 innings of work. Justin Ferrell got the last out of the 5th. Brett Adcock had a strong Texas League debut as he walked one and struck out four over three no-hit innings.

Ryan Hartman will get the start in game two of this series. First pitch is at 7:00.

Salem 4, Buies Creek 1

W- Darwinzon Hernandez (7-5)
L- Cristian Javier (3-2, 5-4 season)
S- Harrison Cooney (1)

BC home runs: None.

The Carolina Stros offense was held in check once again by the Red Sox.

Cristian Javier went five innings and the two runs he allowed came on a homer hit by Ryan Scott in the 2nd inning. Javier allowed four other hits, walked three, and struck out three. Jose Luis Hernandez threw the last four innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits, walked two, and struck out five.

Bryan de la Cruz drove in Buies Creek's only run with a base hit in the opening frame. Carlos Canelón went 3-4.

Tyler Ivey will start the finale and he'll go up against Daniel Gonzalez at 6:00 Eastern.

South Bend 5, Quad Cities 2

W- Garrett Kelly (1-1)
L- Leovanny Rodriguez (4-3)
S- Brian Glowicki (15)

QC home runs: Alfredo Angarita (1, solo in 3rd)

César Rosado befuddled the Cubs all night, but unfortunately, the Cubs turned the tables on Leovanny Rodriguez. The Banditos had their chances to add some more runs but they went 0-9 with runners in scoring position and stranded a dozen.

Rosado did not allow a hit in his five innings; he walked two and struck out five. Leovanny went four innings and allowed five runs (two earned) on four hits (two-run homer), walked two, and struck out five.

Both Quad Cities runs came in the 3rd inning: Alfredo Angarita launched a homer to start the inning and Chandler Taylor ripped an RBI double later in the inning. Jonathan Lacroix went 2-4 with a double out of the #9 spot in the order.

Jairo Solís will face Brendon Little in the series finale. First pitch is at 6:35.

Tri-City 7, Brooklyn 3

W- R.J. Freure (2-0)
L- Mac Lozer (0-2)
S- Tim Hardy (4)

TC home runs: Gilberto Celestino (4, 2-run in 7th)

The ValleyCats avoided the sweep thanks to a four-run 7th that swung the momentum of this game in their favor.

Cody Deason got the start and allowed a run on four hits and walked one in two innings. The one run that Austin Hansen allowed in his three innings came on a homer. Hansen allowed two other hits, walked one, and struck out two. R.J. Freure and Tim Hardy threw two innings apiece. Freure allowed an unearned run on an error, walked one, and struck out three, while Hardy allowed two hits and struck out two in a scoreless outing to get the save.

Alex McKenna put Tri-City on the board with an RBI single in the 3rd and an error in the 4th inning allowed Austin Dennis to score. Ramiro Rodriguez kept the 7th inning alive with a base hit and one batter later, Gilberto Celestino swatted a home run. McKenna got plunked and Enmanuel Valdez followed with a single. McKenna then stole third and scored on a Luis Encarnación single; an error on the play allowed Valdez to score as well. McKenna capped off the evening with another RBI single in the 8th inning.

Tri-City ran wild on the bases in this game as they finished 6-6 in stolen base attempts. McKenna swiped two (4). Celestino (14), Dennis (5), Michael Wielansky (2), and Carlos Machado (1) were also successful in their theft attempts. Celestino went 3-4 on the night and McKenna finished 2-4.

The ValleyCats will be spending this weekend in the Forgotten Borough. That would be Staten Island. Game one of this series starts at 7:00 Eastern.

Astros Minor League Recaps

Results for Thursday, July 12, 2018

Tacoma 4, Fresno 3

W- Bryan Evans (2-1)
L- Ralph Garza Jr. (0-1, 3-1 season)
S- Ryan Cook (3)

Fresno home runs: Yordan Alvarez (1, 13 season; solo in 2nd), Jamie Ritchie (1, solo in 2nd)

The Grizzlies couldn't seem to find the strike zone on Thursday. They held the Rainiers to five hits but they also issued 11 walks on the night. They very nearly snatched the win late but couldn't get the tying run across.

Yordan Alvarez opened the scoring by launching his first AAA home run in the 2nd inning. Two batters later, Jamie Ritchie whacked his first AAA homer and also his first homer of the year. A.J. Reed hit a sac fly in the 8th. Myles Straw finished 4-5 and stole a couple of bases, which gives him 50 thefts on the season.

Cy Sneed allowed a run on a bases-loaded walk, a hit, walked six, and struck out four in his 2.2 innings. Ralph Garza Jr. and Reymin Guduan threw 1.2 innings apiece. Garza was first and he allowed three runs (two earned, one inherited runner charged to him) on two hits, walked two, and struck out three. Guduan allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out four. Riley Ferrell and Buddy Boshers both turned in scoreless innings; Ferrell walked one and struck out one in the 7th, while Boshers walked one and fanned two in the 8th.

Mike Hauschild takes on Ross Detweiler in game two. First pitch is at 7:05 Pacific.

Midland 6, Corpus Christi 5

W- Nolan Blackwood (3-2)
L- Erasmo Pinales (1-3)

CC home runs: None.

The RockHounds stunned the Hooks by launching two home runs with two outs in the bottom of the 9th to walk off with the win.

Chas McCormick led off the game with a base hit. He proceeded to steal second and then scored the first run of the evening when Stephen Wrenn smacked a triple. Wrenn wound up scoring on a Randy César sac fly. César ripped an RBI double in the 4th and he later scored on a Ryne Birk sac fly. Birk doubled to lead off the 9th and scored on a wild pitch. McCormick, Josh Rojas, and Alex De Goti all finished with two hits on the night. McCormick also stole a base, which gives him five thefts with Corpus Christi and 12 on the year.

Brandon Bielak allowed an unearned run on six hits, walked one, and struck out five in five innings. In his Texas League debut, Hector Perez went two innings and allowed a run on three hits while striking out two. Erasmo Pinales threw a scoreless 8th... and I'm sure that he'd like a neuralizer treatment after that 9th inning.

Framber Valdez will get the start in game three of this series. First pitch is at 7:00.

Buies Creek 2, Down East 0

W- Brandon Bailey (4-8)
L- Emerson Martinez (4-9)
S- Tommy DeJuneas (1, 2 season)

BC home runs: None.

The Carolina Stros kept the Wood Ducks off the board to earn a split in the latest iteration of the Lone Star Series in North Carolina.

Brandon Bailey started things off by allowing three hits, walking one, and striking out six over five shutout frames. Brett Adcock tagged in for three innings and allowed two hits while striking out four, and in his system debut, Tommy DeJuneas struck out one in a 1-2-3 9th.

Bryan de la Cruz reached on an error in the 1st that also allowed Jake Meyers and Osvaldo Duarte to score. Those were the only two runs of the game. Meyers finished 2-4 with a double.

Buies Creek will start a four-game series in Winston-Salem at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 4, Dayton 3

W- Parker Mushinski (4-2)
L- Cory Thompson (4-3)
S- Tanner Duncan (4, 5 season)

QC home runs: None.

There was some shambolic defense being played in this one as the two teams combined for nine errors. The Dragons doubled up the Banditos in that category...

Peter Solomon had an unearned run charged to him thanks to an error in his five innings of work. He also allowed a hit, walked two, and struck out five. Parker Mushinski allowed two runs on a homer, two other hits, issued an intentional walk, and struck out two in three innings. Tanner Duncan shut the door by striking out one in a 1-2-3 9th.

Marty Costes walked to lead off the 2nd and David Hensley joined him on the bases after a base hit. They both scored on an error that saw Mike Papierski reach and advance to second base. Papierski scored in the 4th when Alfredo Angarita grounded into a force out. Angarita put Quad Cities back in front when he ripped an RBI double in the 8th inning. Miguelangel Sierra finished 2-5 with a double; the Banditos won despite going 0-16 with runners in scoring position.

César Rosado struck out a career-high 12 in his previous start; what will he have in store as he takes the mound for the series finale? He'll face Wendolyn Bautista at 6:00 Eastern.

Tri-City 5, Williamsport 3

W- Brett Conine (1-0)
L- Ethan Lindow (0-1)
S- Hansel Paulino (1)

TC home runs: None.

The ValleyCats staved off a late uprising from the Crosscutters to even the series.

Luis Encarnación opened the scoring when he whacked a homer to lead off the 3rd inning. Austin Dennis smacked an RBI double in the 4th and added an RBI single to his ledger in the 6th. Carlos Machado added a sac fly later in the 6th. Alex McKenna, who scored on that sac fly, went 3-4 and ripped an RBI triple in the 7th. Dennis's two hits resulted in runs, and Jeremy Peña went 2-3 with three runs scored and a couple of walks.

Shawn Dubin started it off with three scoreless innings, allowing a hit and striking out two. Brett Conine walked two and struck out one over 2.2 no-hit innings. Mark Moclair was cruising along until he hit the wall in the 8th inning. He allowed three runs (one inherited runner charged to him) on three hits, walked one, and struck out five in 1.2 innings. Eleven of the last twelve outs that Moclair has recorded have been strikeouts. Hansel Paulino also threw 1.2 innings and allowed a sac fly that allowed one of Moclair's runners to score and he also issued a walk.

The rubber game of this series will start at 7:05 Eastern.

GCL Astros 6, GCL Nationals 1

W- Matt Ramsey (1-0, 3-1 season)
L- Carlos Cuello (0-2)

GCL home runs: None.

A late outburst spurred the Palm Beach Stros to a win over their complex mates.

A couple of Fresno pitchers started it off with rehab appearances. David Paulino allowed a hit and struck out three over three scoreless innings and Matt Ramsey started his rehab stint by navigating out of a bases-loaded jam in the 4th. He allowed three hits and struck out one. Kyle Serrano struck out two in a 1-2-3 5th. Angel Macuare allowed a run on four hits and struck out three in three innings, and Jervic Chavez worked around a hit and a walk to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out one.

Nathan Perry had a solid day at the plate as he finished 3-4, opening the scoring with a double in the 4th inning. The GCLstros got two in the 6th on a sac fly from Freudis Nova and Perry later added an RBI single to his ledger. Carlos Diaz grounded into a force out that allowed Yeuris Ramirez to score in the 7th and they got two more in the 8th when Wilyer Abreu scored on a passed ball and Juan Ramirez capped off the day with an RBI single.

DSL Astros 8, DSL Braves 7 in 11 innings

W- Cristofer Mezquita (1-1)
L- Carlos Caminero (0-2)

DSL home runs: None.

The Academy walked off with the win thanks to three in the bottom of the 11th.

Alfredi Jimenez allowed a hit and struck out four over three scoreless innings. He was the only DSLstros pitcher to turn in a scoreless outing. Franny Cobos was the first man out of the DSL bullpen and he went two innings, allowing a run on two hits, walking two, and striking out three. Alex Blanco came on for the 6th but only got two outs, one via strikeout; the Braves got to him for a couple of runs on a wild pitch and a fielder's choice. Blanco also allowed a hit and walked three. He left two men on for Jherson Pereira, who spared him from further damage. Pereira went 2.1 innings and allowed a run on three hits and walked two. Jeremy Molero was next and he allowed an unearned run on a single, walked one, and struck out three. Cristofer Mezquita allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits, walked one, and struck out two in the top of the 11th.

Abraham Castillo led off the 2nd with a double and an error on the play allowed him to advance to third. He scored the first run of the day on a sac fly from Ricardo Toro. Franklin Pinto scored on an error in the 3rd as he took advantage of an errant throw from the catcher as Enmanuel Morillo took second. In the 5th, Jonarkys Lopez scored on a wild pitch and Jose Mendoza scored on a Yefri Carrillo groundout. That would be the last time that the Astros would score until extra innings.

Carrillo started the 10th in scoring position; he moved to third on a bad pickoff attempt and scored on a single from Morillo. Jose Alvarez started the 11th at second and didn't have to wait too long to score as Mendoza led off the inning with an RBI base hit. Pinto drew a walk but was forced out at second. Carrillo stole second, however. Mendoza scored the tying run on a Jeury Castillo groundout and Victor Mascai won it with an RBI single.

Morillo and Mendoza both went 2-4 on the day. Carrillo stole a couple of bases, giving him nine on the year.

L- Reymin Guduan (3-2)
S- Jacob Rhame (9)

Fresno home runs: None.

The 51s took control with four runs in the top of the 6th. Fresno managed to respond with three in the bottom half of the 6th to get back in the game, but they couldn't push the tying run across.

Josh James allowed a run, walked four, and struck out two over three innings. Trent Thornton and Reymin Guduan threw two innings apiece with contrasting results. Thornton allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out three in a scoreless outing, but Guduan allowed four runs on five hits and struck out five.

Jack Mayfield put Fresno on the board by ripping an RBI double in the 3rd inning. He added an RBI single to his ledger in the 6th and Nick Tanielu followed by smacking an RBI double. Mayfield scored when D.J. Fisher grounded into a force out. Mayfield and Tanielu both finished with two hits in game one.

Game 2: Fresno 2, Las Vegas 1

W- Brock Dykxhoorn (3-1, 5-1 season)
L- Harol Gonzalez (0-1)
S- Brendan McCurry (10)

Fresno home runs: None.

Both teams had one scoring play apiece in game two. Fresno's yielded more runs, so they won.

A.J. Reed put the Grizzlies on the board in game two with a two-run single in the 3rd inning.

Brock Dykxhoorn shook off a 1st-inning homer and turned in a solid outing. He allowed two other hits and struck out seven in his 5.2 innings. Brendan McCurry walked one and struck out one over the final 1.1 innings to earn the save.

The 2018 Triple-A All-Star Game will take place on Wednesday in Columbus, Ohio. A.J. Reed, Garrett Stubbs, J.D. Davis, and pitching coach Dyar Millar will represent the Grizzlies in the Pacific Coast League contingent. Kyle Tucker was also named to the squad, but he's in Houston now.

The Grizzlies return to action on Thursday with a four-game series in Tacoma.

Corpus Christi 4, Northwest Arkansas 0

W- Corbin Martin (6-1, 8-1 season)
L- Scott Blewett (4-5)
S- Framber Valdez (1)

CC home runs: None.

One team scored all the runs and it was the Corpus Christi Raspas.

All four runs came in the opening frame as Josh Rojas drove in two with a double and Lorenzo Quintana brought in two more with a single. Rojas' double was Corpus Christi's only extra-base hit of the evening.

Corbin Martin and Framber Valdez joined forces to keep the Naturals off the scoreboard. Martin and his outstanding eyebrows allowed four hits and struck out three over the first five innings and Framber allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out six in the last four innings to complete the shutout.

Ryan Hartman will take on Foster Griffin at 6:05.

Both of Buies Creek's runs came in the 3rd inning and they came on a Jake Meyers base hit.

W- Anfernee Benitez (3-0)
L- Humberto Castellanos (1-2)
S- James Ziemba (6)

QC home runs: None.

The Bees stung the Banditos with a pair of three-run innings late.

César Rosado threw 6.1 innings and allowed two runs on three hits, walked three, and struck out a career-high 12. Unfortunately, the bullpen let a 4-0 lead slip away. Humberto Castellanos went two innings and allowed three runs (two earned, two inherited runners charged to him) on three hits and struck out three. Tanner Duncan got the last two outs of the 9th, but not before issuing a walk and allowing a two-run triple. The run that was charged to him on that play was unearned; Castellanos also got charged with a run.

Marty Costes opened the scoring in the 5th by whacking a two-run triple. He trotted home on a single from Seth Beer. W- Riley Cabral (1-0)
L- Juan Echevarria (0-2)

TC home runs: None.

The ValleyCats walked off with the win thanks to a pair of runs in the bottom of the 9th. They went 6-14 with runners in scoring position, but that statistic does not necessarily indicate that runs are being scored...

Luis Garcia turned in a dominant outing as he allowed just one hit, walked one, and struck out ten over five shutout frames. This was the first double-digit strikeout game of his career.

R.J. Freure made his debut in this game; he was the first man out of the Tri-City bullpen and allowed a solo homer, walked one, and struck out three in his two innings of work. Carlos Hiraldo and Riley Cabral both pitched one inning. Hiraldo allowed three runs on two hits, walked two, and struck out two in the 8th, while Cabral worked around a walk to throw a scoreless 9th.

Tri-City got a couple runs in the 4th behind a couple of RBI base hits from Alex Holderbach and Gilberto Celestino. Trey Dawson tried to score on a Jeremy Peña single but got thrown out at the plate to end the inning. He got his revenge with an RBI single in the 6th. Celestino and Peña singled and Alex McKenna got plunked to lead off the bottom of the 9th. César Salazar was next and he tied the game with an RBI single. Peña came home with the winning run thanks to an error on the play. Holderbach and Peña finished with three hits apiece, while Dawson and Celestino had two each.
