Fresno home runs: None.

The Grizzlies avoided the sweep behind a dominating pitching performance from Brady Rodgers.

Rodgers allowed just 2 hits and struck out 8 over 8 shutout innings, and James Hoyt completed the shutout by recording his 12th save of the season, striking out 2 in a 1-2-3 9th. While Rodgers did not face the Tim Lincecum who was such an outstanding pitcher for the Giants, he matched the former Cy Young Award winner pitch for pitch in a fine pitcher's duel.

This game was scoreless for 7.5 innings, but Fresno changed this in the bottom of the 8th. Nolan Fontana led off the inning with a single and advanced to 2nd on a single from Jack Mayfield. He then advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch and scored the only run of the game when Jose Valdez was called for a balk. The Grizzlies could only muster up three singles from Fontana, Mayfield, and Tyler Heineman, but a call that went their way allowed them to put up the only run of the game on the scoreboard.

Tonight, the Grizzlies are in Sacramento to begin a 4-game series against the RiverCats. In game 1, Mike Hauschild will take on Matt Lujan. First pitch is at 7:05 Pacific.

Corpus Christi 3, San Antonio 2

Corpus trailed 2-1 after two innings, but they held the Missions scoreless for the final 7 innings and scored two runs in the 5th to get the victory.

Both teams scored a run in the 1st inning. Teoscar Hernandez led off the 1st with a single, and an error on the play allowed him to advance to 2nd. He scored the Hooks' first run on an RBI double from Alex Bregman.

Teoscar finished 2-3 and scored 2 of Corpus Christi's 3 runs. He led off the 5th with a double, advanced to 3rd when Bregman flew out, and scored on an RBI single from Nick Tanielu. D.J. Fisher, who was intentionally walked after Teoscar made it to 3rd base, stole 2nd (12), advanced to 3rd on Tanielu's RBI single, and scored the go-ahead run on a balk. Bregman finished 2-4 with the RBI double.

Brian Holmes went 3 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2. Aaron West tagged in to throw 4 scoreless, allowing 3 hits and striking out 2, and Brendan McCurry recorded his 13th save of the year by striking out 3 over 2 perfect innings.

Keegan Yuhl will start game 3 of this series. He'll take on T.J. Weir at 7:05.

Visalia 15, Lancaster 1

Lancaster home runs: Ramon Laureano (4, solo in 6th)

The JetHawks were swept out of Visalia to conclude a series of misery. They were outscored 29-5 in the 4 games and were held to one run in 3 of the 4 games.

Ramon Laureano's solo home run in the 6th inning represented Lancaster's only scoring play of the game.

Lancaster's pitchers struggled mightily, and I will leave it at that.

Tonight, Lancaster will begin their final road series of the first half, a 3-game series in Rancho Cucamonga. Dean Deetz will start game 1 of this series, and he will take on Josh Sborz at 7:05 Pacific.

Quad Cities 4, Burlington 1 in 10 innings

QC home runs: Anthony Hermelyn (1, solo in 2nd)

The Banditos took the series by breaking a 1-1 tie with 3 runs in the top of the 10th inning.

Kevin McCanna pitched a career-high 8 innings and allowed a run on 9 hits (8 singles, 1 double) while striking out 3. Adam Whitt allowed a hit and struck out 2 over 2 scoreless and got the victory.

The River Bandits and the Bees both scored a run in the 2nd inning; Anthony Hermelyn provided the Quad Cities run with a solo home run, his first of the season. Burlington scored their 2nd-inning run on a bloop RBI single from Michael Pierson, and this game headed into extra innings in a 1-1 deadlock.

Myles Straw drew a 1-out walk in the top of the 10th and advanced to 3rd on a double from Osvaldo Duarte. Kristian Trompiz stepped up to the plate and proceeded to break the tie with a 2-run double. He later scored on an error that allowed Connor Goedert to reach. Duarte was the only player in the Quad Cities lineup to record a multi-hit game, going 3-5 with 2 doubles.

The River Bandits will begin their final homestand of the first half tonight. The first part of this homestand will be a 3-game series against Wisconsin beginning at 7:00. Justin Ferrell will start game 1, and he'll go up against Devin Williams.

The Astros affiliates did battle with a couple of Angels affiliates. How did they fare?

Fresno and Albuquerque was postponed

Due to rain. A doubleheader is scheduled for today with game 1 starting at 4:35 Mountain. Brady Rodgers will go first; he'll face Tyler Anderson. Mike Hauschild will start the nightcap, and he'll go up against Jeff Hoffman.

Corpus Christi 10, Arkansas 2

CC home runs: None.

The Hooks walked their way to a 10-0 lead and also took advantage of some wild pitching from the Travs. On the pitching side, Keegan Yuhl and Aaron West shackled the Travelers offense.

Yuhl went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs on 8 hits (7 singles and a double), walked 1, and struck out 6. West, who was celebrating his 26th birthday, gave himself a nice gift in the form of a 3-inning save. He allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3.

Teoscar Hernandez, Alex Bregman, and D.J. Fisher led off the game by walking to load the bases. J.D. Davis and Chase McDonald went down, which put the threat in jeopardy, but Conrad Gregor opened the scoring with a bases-loaded walk. Alfredo Gonzalez followed with a 2-run single. McDonald atoned for his strikeout with the bases loaded by clubbing an RBI double in the 3rd. He later scored on a sac fly from Nick Tanielu.

Corpus tacked on 3 more in the 4th as Davis smacked a 2-run double. He wound up scoring himself on a wild pitch. Teoscar hit an RBI single in the 5th, advanced to 3rd on two wild pitches, and scored on a passed ball.

Teoscar finished 1-3 with 3 walks, 3 runs scored, and was the only player in the Hooks lineup to not strike out. McDonald (2 2B, RBI, R) and Alfredo (2-run single) both finished 2-5. Bregman (3 BB) and Fisher (2B, 2 BB) scored 2 runs apiece, while Gregor drew 4 walks.

The Hooks will look for the sweep as David Paulino takes the ball tonight. He'll face Jordan Kipper at 7:10.

Lancaster 6, Inland Empire 1

W- Rogelio Armenteros (3-1, 3-3 season)
L- Justin Anderson (1-6)

Lancaster home runs: None.

The JetHawks stormed out of the gate with a 4-0 lead after the 1st and Rogelio Armenteros and company held the 66ers bats in check.

Armenteros allowed a run on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6 in 5 innings of work. Dean Deetz tagged in for 2.2 scoreless, allowing a hit, walking 1, and striking out 2. Jacob Dorris pitched the final 1.1 innings, allowing a hit and striking out 2.

The first 4 batters of the game reached, and that's how Lancaster got out to a 4-0 lead in the 1st. Johnny Sewald doubled to lead off the game, and Garrett Stubbs drew a walk. Ramon Laureano opened the scoring with an RBI single, and Brooks Marlow followed with a 2-run triple. Marlow wound up scoring on a Bryan Muñiz groundout.

Jason Martin added an RBI single in the 8th, and Sewald scored the final run of the evening on a sac fly from Laureano. Sewald went 3-5 with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored, while Marlow (3B, 2 RBI, 2 R) and Martin (RBI single) both went 2-4.

Josh James will start game 2 of this series. He'll face Jeremy Rhoades at 7:05 Pacific.

Game 1: Clinton 5, Quad Cities 4

The LumberKings took control of game 1 with a 4-run 3rd inning. The Banditos made it a 1-run game in the 7th, but they couldn't get over the hump.

Kyle Tucker put Quad Cities on the board first with an RBI groundout in the 1st. They added another run in the inning on a Connor Goedert sac fly. Myles Straw showcased his speed in the 2nd when he legged out an RBI infield single. He grounded into a force out that scored Pat Porter in the 7th, and the ensuing error allowed him to advance to 2nd. But alas, he was stranded there to end the game. Christian Correa finished 2-3.

Albert Abreu went 2.2 innings and allowed 5 runs on 3 hits (solo and 3-run homers), walked 5, and struck out 4. Zac Person allowed 2 hits and struck out 4 over 3.1 scoreless.

How did the Banditos fare in game 2?

Game 2: Clinton 6, Quad Cities 4

QC home runs: Dex McCall (3, inside-the-park solo in 4th)

Once again, the 3rd inning spelled doom for the Banditos as they were condemned to the doubleheader sweep. They mounted a rally that fell short.

Makay Nelson went 2.2 innings and allowed 6 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. Adam Whitt pitched the final 3.1 innings and allowed 2 hits while striking out 5.

Dex McCall put Quad Cities on the board with an inside-the-park homer to lead off the 4th inning. Osvaldo Duarte tripled to lead off the 6th and scored on a sac fly from Little Tuck. The Banditos got 2 in the 7th on an RBI double from Keach Ballard and an RBI triple from Myles Straw. Duarte and Straw both finished 2-4 at the top of the order, while Kristian Trompiz was 2-3 with a run scored in his return to Quad Cities.

The River Bandits will look to avoid the sweep as Jose Luis Hernandez gets the start. He'll take on Pablo Lopez at 6:30.

- Yuhl might be the pitching version of Tyler White. He has provided some outstanding returns for the Astros since being picked in the 35th round in 2014.

- The transformation of Teoscar's game has been impressive. He still has a track record of showing power, but his hitting has improved markedly because he hasn't sold out for the home run.

- Both of these guys have really fought and have performed well in the extreme environments of the California League.

Fresno home runs: Jon Singletin (9, 3-run in 1st), Matt Duffy (2, 3-run in 5th)

The Grizzlies withstood a 5-run 3rd by scoring 3 in the 5th to tie the game, but the Redbirds had the last word in this one by breaking the tie in the bottom of the 5th.

6 of Fresno's 7 runs in this game came on a pair of 3-run homers. Jon Singleton put them on the board first with his 3-run blast in the 1st, and Matt Duffy tied the game at 7 with a 3-run shot of his own in the 5th. Duffy drove in another run when he grounded into a force out that allowed Danny Worth to score in the 3rd. Worth finished 2-4 with a double and scored 3 runs.

Brad Peacock went 2.2 innings and allowed 6 runs (3 inherited runners charged to him) on 3 hits (2-run homer), walked 6, and struck out 3. Juan Minaya was the first man out; he pitched 2 innings and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, walked 1, and fanned 4. Reymin Guduan allowed a hit and struck out 2 over 1.1 scoreless. César Valdez and Jandel Gustave each pitched a scoreless inning; Valdez allowed a hit and fanned 1 in the 7th, and Gustave struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 8th.

Brady Rodgers will take the mound for game 3 of this series. He'll go up against Deck McGuire at 6:35.

Corpus Christi 4, Midland 3 in 10 innings

CC home runs: Nick Tanielu (1, 5 season; 2-run in 7th)

Corpus edged Midland with a run in the first extra frame. This come-from-behind win is their 11th consecutive victory, a new team record.

James Ramsay broke a scoreless tie with an RBI groundout in the 4th. However, the Hounds scored 3 in the bottom of the 4th to take the lead, and that's where it stood until the 7th. J.D. Davis drew a 1-out walk, and one batter later, Nick Tanielu connected for his first Texas League homer to tie the game at 3. Alejandro Garcia ripped a double with 2 outs in the 10th and Teoscar Hernandez came through with an RBI single that turned out to be the game-winner. Garcia and Teoscar (SB [13]) had 2 hits apiece.

Kyle Smith went 4 innings and allowed 3 runs on 6 hits (solo homer), walked 2, and struck out 2. Chris Cotton and Aaron West combined to hold the Hounds scoreless for the final 7 innings: Cotton allowed 3 hits and struck out 2 in 2.2 innings, and West allowed 1 hit and walked 1 in 3.1 innings to get the win.

The series continues tonight at 7. David Paulino will start for Corpus; he'll face Raul Alcantara.

High Desert 8, Lancaster 3

Lancaster home runs: None.

Miscues, a quieted offense, and an early 7-0 hole sent the JetHawks to their doom on Friday night. It's not a good sign when you have more errors (4) than hits (3) in a game.

Bryan Muñiz put Lancaster on the board with a 2-run single in the 6th. Garrett Stubbs, whose 16-game hitting streak was snapped, had an RBI groundout in the 9th. Johnny Sewald and Tony Nuñez, who were both making their Lancaster debuts, both singled for the other two Lancaster hits.

Matt Bower went 2.2 innings and allowed 7 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits, walked 4, and struck out 4. Jacob Dorris stopped the bleeding with 4 scoreless, allowing 2 hits, walking 2, and striking out 6. Ryan Thompson allowed a run on 3 hits in 1.1 innings.

Dean Deetz will start game 2 of this series. He'll take on Adam Quintana at 6:35 Pacific.

Cedar Rapids 9, Quad Cities 0

Yeesh. Jayne, unfortunately, was on hand to witness this bludgeoning. I'm sure she, and the River Bandits, would like to neuralize themselves to forget this one.

Osvaldo Duarte and Christian Correa had the two Quad Cities hits in this one; both were singles. Myles Straw and Arturo Michelena both had 0-fers in their season debuts.

Albert Abreu did not get out of the 1st inning. He allowed 3 runs on 4 hits (2-run homer), walked 1, and both of his outs were recorded via strikeout. Juan Carlos Santos was the first man out; went 3 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2. Adam Whitt was the only River Bandits pitcher to emerge unscathed; he went 3.1 innings and allowed a hit while fanning 3. Ralph Garza Jr. allowed 4 runs on 6 hits (3-run homer) and struck out 1 in the 8th.

Despite the butt-kicking, baseball provides everyone involved with a fresh start every day. The Banditos will look to bounce back tonight as Jose Luis Hernandez takes on Dereck Rodriguez, son of Iván "Pudge" Rodriguez, at 5.

The Grizzlies' comeback fell just short, and as a result, they had to settle for the split.

Colin Moran scored Fresno's first run of the day after Eury Perez grounded into a force out in the 7th. That was all that the Grizz could muster up after getting the first three batters of the inning on board. Jon Singleton hit a sac fly in the 9th. Tony Kemp finished 2-4.

Mike Hauschild allowed 3 runs on 7 hits and fanned 6 in 5.2 innings. Kevin Chapman was the first man out; he went 0.2 innings (final out of the 6th, first out of the 7th) and allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 1. Jandel Gustave allowed a hit and struck out 2 over 1.2 scoreless, and Edwar Cabrera worked around a walk to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out 1.

Tommy Shirley will take the mound for Fresno tonight as they'll be spending the weekend in El Paso. He'll take on Jeremy Guthrie in the first of 4 games; first pitch is at 7:05 Mountain.

Midland 13, Corpus Christi 0

Forgettable game all around.

Alex Bregman went 1-4 in his return to the Corpus lineup; that hit was a double. Jack Mayfield's single to begin the 8th broke up a no-hit bid.

The pitching staff struggled, and honestly, I'd really like to leave it at that. Michael Freeman worked around a hit to throw a scoreless 9th; he was the only Hooks pitcher to emerge from this bloodbath unscathed.

In the series finale, Edison Frias will start for Corpus. He'll take on Corey Walter at 7.

Inland Empire 4, Lancaster 1

L- Trent Thornton (1-1)

Lancaster home runs: None.

The JetHawks had to settle for the split as the 66ers got the jump on Trent Thornton in the early going.

Ramon Laureano's RBI double in the 4th was Lancaster's only scoring play. Alejandro Garcia went 2-4.

Trent Thornton went 6 innings and allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. Andrew Walter threw 2 scoreless, allowing a hit, walking 1, and striking out 2.

Lancaster will be hosting Visalia for the weekend. Brock Dykxhoorn will start the series opener, and he'll go up against Brad Keller. First pitch is at 6:35 Pacific.

The River Bandits held the Lugnuts to one hit..... and lost. They had one of those games that can really make you hate baseball sometimes.

Johnny Sewald went 3-4 with a stolen base (11), while Connor Goedert and Aaron Mizell (2B) had 2 hits apiece. Dex McCall tripled with 2 outs in the 9th, but he was stranded there to end the game.

Sebastian Kessay allowed the only run of the game in the 3rd; it came on a double play. He walked 5 and struck out 4 in 2 innings, giving him one of the weirder lines that we'll see this season. Zac Person went 4 innings and allowed a hit, walked 3, and struck out 5. Adam Whitt walked 1 and fanned 2 over 2 scoreless.

Kevin McCanna gets the start in game 2 of this series. He'll face Francisco Rios at 6:05.
