Fresno 7, El Paso 2

W- Cy Sneed (4-2)
L- Walker Lockett (2-4)

Fresno home runs: Kyle Tucker (4, 2-run in 1st), A.J. Reed (8, solo in 1st), Jon Kemmer (7, solo in 7th)

The Grizzlies launched three homers for the second straight game as they clinched a series win in El Paso.

Kyle Tucker opened the scoring with his two-run blast in the 1st. A.J. Reed launched a solo shot later in the inning. Jon Kemmer led off the 7th with a homer.

Fresno's last four runs came via other means. Tyler White smacked an RBI double in the 8th and added an RBI single to his ledger in the 9th. Little Tuck, who finished 3-4, scored the final run of the day on a balk. White's two hits both resulted in runs. Jake Marisnick also finished with two hits and he scored a couple of runs out of the leadoff spot.

Cy Sneed went six innings and allowed two runs on eight hits, walked two, and struck out three. Kent Emanuel and James Hoyt shut it down. Emanuel allowed a hit and struck out four over two scoreless while Hoyt struck out two in a 1-2-3 9th inning.

Fresno will welcome Reno to Chukchansi Park for a four-game set starting at 6:35 Pacific. Mike Hauschild will take on Friend of WTHB Jake Buchanan in game one.

Corpus Christi 9, Frisco 7

W- Cionel Perez (4-1)
L- Tyler Davis (0-4)

CC home runs: Josh Rojas (2, 3 season; solo in 3rd), Stephen Wrenn (2, solo in 8th)

The Hooks got on the board in this latest iteration of the Lone Star Series in the Texas League, even though things got a bit too close for comfort in the 9th.

Cionel Perez went 5.1 innings and the two runs he allowed both came on solo home runs, which were also the only two hits he allowed. Cionel also walked two and struck out eight. Justin Ferrell pitched 2.1 innings and allowed a hit while striking out three in a scoreless outing. Erasmo Pinales got the last out of the 8th and the first out of the 9th. He allowed a hit and walked two in the 9th and all of them scored on hits allowed by Carlos Sierra. Sierra got the last two outs of the game, one via strikeout, but not before he allowed an RBI single and a grand slam which allowed all three of Pinales' runners to score. Two runs were charged to him on the slam.

It was a huge evening for the Hooks' top third of the order as Myles Straw, Josh Rojas, and Taylor Jones combined to go 8-13 with four RBI and six runs scored. Jones opened things up with an RBI single in the 1st inning. Rojas sent the first pitch of the 3rd inning out, and Straw ripped an RBI double in the 5th. Randy César, who extended his hitting streak to 13 games, added a two-run single in the 7th.

Stephen Wrenn smacked the first pitch of the 8th for a homer. Lorenzo Quintana followed with a single, but Aníbal Sierra struck out and then Quintana got picked off. Straw kept the line moving by drawing a walk and Rojas did the same with a single. Jones whacked a ground-rule double to bring Straw in, and Carmen Benedetti finished the big 8th inning with a two-run single.

Everyone in the Corpus lineup recorded a hit: Rojas (solo HR, 2 R) and Jones (2B, 2 RBI, R) had three apiece, while Straw (2B, RBI, 3 R), Benedetti (2 RBI), César (2 RBI), Quintana, and Sierra (2 R) all had two.

Alex Winkelman will start the series finale. He'll face Wes Benjamin at 11:05 AM.

Carolina 9, Buies Creek 1

W- Alec Kenilvort (1-2)
L- Brandon Bailey (0-4)

BC home runs: None.

The Carolina Stros did not have a good weekend as the Mudcats came in and swept them.

Ugh... I think I'll punt this one away. Alfredo Angarita went 2-5... so that probably qualifies as a bright spot.

Buies Creek is back on the road for five games in Winston-Salem, with a doubleheader on Wednesday. They'll technically be the home team in the second game of that doubleheader because that game was supposed to take place in Buies Creek.

Abdiel Saldaña will face Bernardo Flores in game 1. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

Beloit 3, Quad Cities 2

W- Jared Poche' (1-2)
L- Enoli Paredes (0-1)

QC home runs: None.

Both teams scored twice in the 6th. Unfortunately, Beloit also scored a run in the 7th which turned out to be the difference. And... as a result, the Banditos dropped this series in southern Wisconsin. All three games in this series were decided by one run.

Quad Cities' two runs in the 6th came on RBI doubles from Miguelangel Sierra and Colton Shaver. Sierra went 2-4 on the afternoon; he's finished with two hits in three straight games.

Tyler Ivey was perfect through 5.2 innings and then the Snappers got to him. In his six innings, he allowed two runs on a double, two other hits, and struck out four. Enoli Paredes pitched the last two innings and allowed a run on three hits, walked two, and struck out four.

Quad Cities is headed home and they will begin a four-game series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Yohan Ramirez will start the opener and he'll face Nelson Hernandez at 6:35.

Astros Minor League Recaps

Results for Monday, April 30, 2018

It was a light slate on the final day of April as both A clubs were off.

Fresno 11, Salt Lake 4

W- Trent Thornton (2-1)
L- Osmer Morales (1-2)

Fresno home runs: Tyler White (6, 2-run in 4th)

Fresno put this game away with five runs in the final two innings.

David Paulino made his season debut and allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits, walked two, and struck out five in three innings of work. Trent Thornton tagged in for four innings and allowed a run on three hits, walked two, and struck out five. James Hoyt pitched the final two innings, allowing a hit, walking one, and striking out one in a scoreless outing.

A.J. Reed put the Grizzlies on the board in the 3rd when he got plunked with the bases loaded. J.D. Davis hustled to beat a double play, which allowed Kyle Tucker to score, and then Garrett Stubbs tied the game at 3 with an RBI single. The Grizzlies took the lead with three more runs in the 4th as Tucker ripped an RBI double and Tyler White followed with a two-run homer. They'd put this game away in the 8th when Drew Ferguson ripped a two-run double and came around to score on Reed's single, and Little Tuck capped off the evening with a two-run double in the 9th.

Tucker finished 3-5 on the night with two run-producing doubles and scored twice. Davis, Stubbs, and Jon Kemmer all had two hits; both of Kemmer's were doubles.

Cy Sneed takes on John Lamb in game 2 of this series. First pitch is at 6:35 Mountain.

Frisco 2, Corpus Christi 1 in 12 innings

W- Brady Feigl (1-0)
L- Kevin Hill (0-1)
S- Ryne Slack (1)

CC home runs: Carmen Benedetti (2, solo in 7th)

The Hooks had their chances but all they could muster up in 12 innings was a single, solitary run. And so, Corpus Christi lost to Arlington's AA team for the first time this season.

Ryan Hartman went 5.1 innings and the one run he allowed came on a solo homer hit by Correlle Prime in the 5th. He allowed two other hits, walked one, and struck out seven. Erasmo Pinales was the first man out of the Corpus bullpen and allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out two over 2.2 scoreless innings. Kevin Hill was next and he allowed the go-ahead run (as always, the runner on second in extra innings is charged as an unearned run) on a sac fly, a single, walked two, and struck out four in his 3.2 innings of work. Sean Stutzman got the final out of the 12th.

Carmen Benedetti whacked a solo home run in the 7th which tied the game at 1. Unfortunately, that turned out to be the Hooks' only scoring play. Myles Straw, Stephen Wrenn, and Randy César all finished 2-5.

Corpus begins a new month on the road as they'll play a couple of four-game series in Midland and then San Antonio. Why it isn't San Antonio first and then Midland, I'll never know, but whatever... the schedule is what it is. The Hooks will send TBA to the mound to face Ben Bracewell at 6:30.

Buies Creek was off

Hector Perez will start the first of a three-game series against Down East. He'll face Emerson Martinez at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities was off

The Banditos are in Midland, Michigan as they'll start a three-game set with the Great Lakes Loons. César Rosado will get the start; first pitch is at 7:05 Eastern.

Astros Minor League Recaps

Results for Friday, April 7, 2017

Fresno 6, Reno 1

W- Brady Rodgers (1-0)
L- Anthony Banda (0-1)

Fresno home runs: D.J. Fisher (2, 2-run in 4th)

After giving up 13 runs on Opening Night, Fresno's pitchers tightened the screws and suffocated the Aces offense on Friday.

Brady Rodgers went 6 innings and allowed a run on 4 hits and struck out 4. Reymin Guduan, Jordan Jankowski, and James Hoyt finished it off with a scoreless inning apiece. Guduan recorded a strikeout in a 1-2-3 7th, Jankowski worked around a hit in the 8th and struck out 2, and Hoyt fanned 2 in a 1-2-3 9th.

Max Stassi walked to lead off the 3rd and scored the first run of the evening thanks to an error.that allowed Teoscar Hernandez to reach base and advance to 2nd. D.J. Fisher, who drew a one-out walk, scored on a wild pitch/A.J. Reed walk. Tyler White and Reid Brignac followed with RBI singles. Fisher smacked a 2-run homer in the 4th for the final runs of the evening.

Brian Holmes will go up against Matt Koch in game 3 of this series. First pitch is at 7:05 Pacific.

Arkansas 6, Corpus Christi 1

W- Max Povse (1-0)
L- Kent Emanuel (0-1)

CC home runs: None.

The Hooks' offense had no answer for Max Povse, who shut them out for 7 innings.

Mott Hyde's RBI single in the 8th represented Corpus Christi's only scoring play.

Kent Emanuel went 4 innings and allowed 4 runs on 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. Kyle Smith was the first man out of the Hooks bullpen, and in 3 innings, he allowed a run on a force play in the 6th, a single, walked 3, and struck out 1. In the 8th, Michael Freeman allowed a run on a bases-loaded walk, two hits, issued another walk, and struck out the side.

In the series finale, Dean Deetz will face Tyler Herb. First pitch is at 6:10.

Buies Creek 5, Winston-Salem 3

W- Justin Ferrell (1-0)
L- Kelvis Valerio (0-1)
S- Andrew Thome (1)

BC home runs: None.

The Dash put up 3 runs in the top of the 8th to take the lead, but the Astros responded with 3 runs of their own in the bottom half to regain control. Both teams had 5 hits... the Astros won in the column that counts towards the standings, though.

Buies Creek scored a run in the 3rd without recording a hit as Johnny Sewald, who drew a one-out walk, scored on a wild pitch. Jason Martin drove in a run with a sac fly in the 5th.

Martin drew a one-out walk in the 8th and advanced to 2nd on an errant pickoff throw. Osvaldo Duarte went down on strikes for the second out, but Kyle Tucker got plunked to keep the inning going. Dex McCall put the Astros back in front with a 2-run triple and scored an insurance run on a single from Pat Porter.

Alex Winkelman turned in 5 dominant innings, allowing just 1 hit and walking 1 while striking out 9. The 9 strikeouts are a new career high. Justin Ferrell tagged in for 3 innings and allowed 3 runs (all in the 8th) on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. Andrew Thome got himself into some trouble after a walk and a double put runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out in the 9th, but he struck out the final two hitters he faced to earn the save.

Matt Bower gets the start for Buies Creek in game 3. He'll face Brannon Easterling at 6:00 Eastern.

Wisconsin 1, Quad Cities 0

W- Jordan Desguin (1-0)
L- Dustin Hunt (0-1)
S- Luke Barker (1)

QC home runs: None.

There was only one run in this game, and unfortunately, it did not belong to the River Bandits.

Quad Cities was actually on the wrong end of a perfect game until Chuckie Robinson ripped a two-out double in the 6th inning. Daz Cameron walked and Stephen Wrenn singled to load the bases, but Ronnie Dawson looked at strike 3 to end the threat. Wrenn singled to lead off the 9th and stole 2nd base, but he was doubled off following a Randy César lineout to end the game.

Carson LaRue allowed 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4 over 5 shutout frames. Dustin Hunt allowed the game's only run when Monte Harrison took him deep with 2 outs in the 8th inning. He allowed 3 other hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. Edgardo Sandoval worked around a hit and a walk to throw a scoreless 9th.

These two teams will now play a 2-game series in Wisconsin. Brett Adcock will face Thomas Jankins at 4:05.

Let's play two in Lancaster!

Fresno 1, Sacramento 0

W- César Valdez (12-1)
L- Chris Stratton (11-6)
S- James Hoyt (29)

Fresno home runs: None.

There was only one run in this game, and it belonged to Fresno. Meanwhile, César Valdez and James Hoyt dominated on the mound, so one run turned out to be enough for the Grizzlies to get the win.

Danny Worth hit a one-out double in the 2nd inning and came around to score on a single from D.J. Fisher. Jack Mayfield's single in the 5th inning was the Grizzlies' third and final hit of the evening. Worth's double was the only extra-base hit for either side.

Valdez allowed 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 12 over 8 shutout innings, and Hoyt finished it off by striking out the side in order in the 9th inning.

Eury De La Rosa will start game 2 of this 5-game series. He'll face Joan Gregorio at 7:05 Pacific.

Corpus Christi 4, Midland 1

W- Cy Sneed (6-5)
L- Ben Bracewell (7-3)
S- Kevin Comer (1, 4 season)

CC home runs: None.

The Hooks kept the Midland offense in check for a second straight night.

Cy Sneed turned in 6.2 solid innings; the one run he allowed came on a solo home run hit by Yairo Muñoz in the 5th. Sneed allowed two other hits and struck out 4. Kevin Comer pitched the final 2.1 innings to get the save, allowing a hit, walking 1, and striking out 2.

Garrett Stubbs reached base safely in all 4 of his plate appearances; he went 3-3 with a walk and scored 3 of the Hooks' 4 runs in this game. He did not score the first run of the game; that honor went to Mott Hyde, who led off the 3rd with a double and scored on a Preston Tucker sac fly. Stubbs followed with a triple and came home on a double from J.D. Davis. Stubbs hit a one-out single in the 5th, stole 2nd, and scored on a Ramon Laureano double. He scored the final run of the evening on a Conrad Gregor single in the 7th. Laureano finished 3-4, while Davis and Hyde both finished 2-4.

In game 3 of this series, Trent Thornton will face Daniel Gossett. First pitch is at 7:05.

Game 1: High Desert 14, Lancaster 4

W- Nick Gardewine (5-1)
L- Akeem Bostick (4-3, 5-4 season)

Lancaster home runs: Jamie Ritchie (7, 2-run in 4th), Kyle Tucker (1, 7 season; 2-run in 7th)

The Mavericks turned the first game of the doubleheader into a laugher by scoring 9 runs in the final two innings.

All 4 Lancaster runs scored off a pair of 2-run homers from Jamie Ritchie and Kyle Tucker. Johnny Sewald, Osvaldo Duarte, Bryan Muñiz, and Little Tuck all finished with 2 hits in game 1.

Akeem Bostick went 5 innings and allowed 8 runs (6 earned, 1 inherited runner charged to him) on 7 hits (solo homer) and walked 3. Juan Carlos Santos and Chris Murphy made their Lancaster debuts; Santos allowed 6 runs (2 earned, 3 inherited runners charged to him) on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2 in 1.1 innings, and Murphy got the final two outs of the 7th, allowing a hit and striking out 1.

Would there be a more positive result in game 2 for Lancaster?

Game 2: Lancaster 2, High Desert 0

W- Jose Luis Hernandez (3-3, 6-5 season)
L- David Ledbetter (6-9)

Lancaster home runs: Bryan Muñiz (13, solo in 2nd), Johnny Sewald (6, 7 season; solo in 3rd)

After getting smacked in the final two innings of game 1, the JetHawks had the last laugh as they held the Mavs off the board in game 2 to earn the split. Jose Luis Hernandez went the distance, allowing 7 hits and striking out 6.

Lancaster only had 4 hits in game 2, but 2 of them resulted in runs. Muñiz's homer led off the 2nd inning, and Sewald launched a solo shot of his own in the 3rd. Ritchie went 2-3.

In the series finale, Brock Dykxhoorn will face Jeffrey Springs. First pitch is at 6:35 Pacific.

Cedar Rapids 3, Quad Cities 0

W- Michael Cederoth (4-0)
L- Framber Valdez (1-2, 4-3 season)
S- Tom Hackimer (4)

QC home runs: None.

The Banditos have dropped 5 in a row; they've scored just 2 runs in their series with the Kernels, and they got blanked on Wednesday.

Stephen Wrenn and Hector Roa both doubled; those were the only two Quad Cities hits in this game.

Framber Valdez went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and struck out 6. David Schmidt allowed a run on 4 hits and struck out 1 over the final 2 innings.

Hector Perez will get the start as the Banditos look to avoid the sweep. He'll take on Lachlan Wells at 6:35.

Tri-City 5, Auburn 4 in 12 innings

W- Carlos Sanabria (1-0, 2-2 season)
L- Brayan Serrata (0-1)

TC home runs: Ronnie Dawson (7, solo in 2nd), Connor Goedert (1, 6 season; solo in 2nd)

Auburn forced extra innings by erasing a 3-0 deficit, but the ValleyCats regained their advantage in the 12th and held off one final rally from the Doubledays to escape with the win.

Ronnie Dawson and Connor Goedert opened up the scoring with back-to-back solo home runs in the 2nd inning. Dawson, who went 4-5 on the evening, added an RBI single to his ledger in the 9th that pushed Tri-City's lead to 3-0.

Alex De Goti reached on an error with one out in the top of the 12th and he was able to advance to 2nd on the miscue. Another error allowed Marcos Almonte to reach. Miguelangel Sierra got plunked to load the bases, and a wild pitch resulted in De Goti dashing home with the go-ahead run. Bryan De La Cruz, who was at the plate at the time, hit a groundout that brought in another run in the form of Almonte.

Abdiel Saldaña allowed 4 hits and struck out 5 over 5 shutout innings. Sean Stutzman was the first man out of the Tri-City bullpen, and he walked 1 and struck out 1 in a scoreless 6th. Dustin Hunt went 2+ innings and allowed 3 runs (2 earned, 2 inherited runners charged to him) on 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 1; he came on for the 9th but failed to record an out in the inning.

Carlos Sanabria couldn't hold the lead in the 9th; the runners he inherited from Hunt scored on a sac fly and an error. However, he made up for it with a fine showing in extra innings. He did run into some trouble in the 12th, but he pulled himself together to secure the win for the ValleyCats. In 4 innings, Sanabria allowed a run on a sac fly, 2 hits, and struck out 3. The sac fly and the hits all came in the 12th.

Ryan Hartman will start the series finale. First pitch is at 7:05 Eastern.

Danville 4, Greeneville 0

W- Joey Wentz (1-3)
L- Ricardo Castro (2-2)

Greeneville home runs: None.

The Appy Astros had 7 hits in this game but no runs to show for it. Carlos Machado went 2-4 and stole a base (3, 7 season).

Ricardo Castro went 5 innings and allowed 4 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. In his Greeneville debut, Lupe Chavez allowed 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4 in 3.2 scoreless, and Luis Ramirez got the final out of the 9th with a strikeout.

Ben Smith will start game 2 of this series. He'll face Jeremy Walker at 7:00 Eastern.

DSL Astros

The Blue team's game with the Marlins was suspended after the 3rd inning, with the Marlins leading 2-1. Ronny Rafael ripped an RBI double in the 2nd inning for the Blue team's only run so far. Carlos Perdomo allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2 in 3 innings of work.

Meanwhile, the Orange team topped the Red Sox 2 by a score of 9-5.

W- Nivaldo Rodriguez (1-0)

Kilvio Peralta got 2 outs in the 6th via the strikeout and allowed 3 runs (2 inherited runners charged to him) on 2 hits and walked 2. Fresno 1, Las Vegas 0

W- César Valdez (9-1)
L- Robert Gsellman (1-3)
S- James Hoyt (27)

Fresno home runs: None.

The only scoring play in this game belonged to the Tacos. Meanwhile, César Valdez, Jordan Jankowski, and James Hoyt joined forces to throw a two-hit shutout.

Valdez allowed those two hits and struck out 7 over 7 innings. Jankowski issued a walk and got a strikeout in a scoreless 8th inning, and Hoyt worked around a walk and struck out two to record his 27th save of the season.

Tyler White's RBI single in the 5th inning drove in the game's only run. Max Stassi, who scored that run, also drew two walks.

Edison Frias will make his AAA debut tonight. First pitch is at 7:05 Pacific.

San Antonio 6, Corpus Christi 2 in 10 innings

W- Jason Jester (2-1)
L- Aaron West (5-2)

CC home runs: Ramon Laureano (1, 11 season; solo in 7th)

A walk-off grand slam in the first extra frame sunk the Hooks.

Ramon Laureano put Corpus on the board in the 7th inning with his first Texas League home run. D.J. Fisher got plunked to lead off the 8th. He proceeded to steal 2nd (22), advanced to 3rd on the errant throw down to 2nd, and scored the tying run on a J.D. Davis single. Davis (2B, RBI) and Laureano (2B, solo HR) both finished with 2 hits in the game.

In his Texas League debut, Trent Thornton went 6 innings, and the two runs he allowed came on a home run hit by Nick Schulz in the 4th inning. Thornton allowed three other hits, walked one, and struck out 5. Ryan Thompson threw 1.1 perfect innings, striking out one. Chris Cotton allowed a hit and struck out one as he recorded the final two outs of the 8th inning. Aaron West pitched a scoreless 9th, but River Stevens tagged him for the game-winning grand slam in the 10th inning. In 1.1 innings, West allowed two other hits, issued an intentional walk, and struck out one.

Francis Martes will start game 3 of this series. He'll face Tim Berry at 7:05.

Lancaster 12, Lake Elsinore 4

W- Brock Dykxhoorn (7-3)
L- Zech Lemond (3-4)

Lancaster home runs: Trent Woodward (4, 5 season; 3-run in 3rd), Johnny Sewald (4, 5 season; solo in 7th)

The JetHawks left the Storm in the dust with a pair of 5-run innings.

Their first 5-run inning was the 3rd. Osvaldo Duarte scored the first run of the evening when Drew Ferguson hit into a fielder's choice. Ferguson advanced to 2nd on a Bobby Boyd infield single and scored on a single from Bryan Muñiz. One batter later, Trent Woodward launched a three-run home run. Duarte tripled to lead off the 4th inning, and Ferguson brought him in with a sacrifice fly.

The other 5-run inning was the 6th. Marc Wik led it off with a double, and Duarte joined him on the bases by drawing a one-out walk. Johnny Sewald followed with an RBI single; an error on the play allowed Duarte to score and Sewald to advance to 3rd base. Ferguson followed by adding an RBI single to his ledger. Boyd drew a walk, and the two of them advanced a base thanks to a wild pitch. Muñiz and Woodward followed with RBI singles, and Sewald capped off the evening with a solo home run in the 7th inning.

S- Nick Hernandez (4)

TC home runs: Rodrigo Ayarza (1, 2-run in 3rd), Taylor Jones (6, 2-run in 6th)

The ValleyCats successfully erased a 5-0 deficit to earn the sweep.

Jake Rogers doubled to lead off the 3rd inning, and two batters later, Rodrigo Ayarza clubbed a two-run home run to put Tri-City on the board. Rogers walked to lead off the 5th inning and scored a Tyler Wolfe double. Ayarza laid down a sacrifice bunt that was fielded by the pitcher, then promptly thrown away, which allowed Wolfe to score. Ronnie Dawson drew a two-out walk in the 6th, and one batter later, Taylor Jones put the ValleyCats in front with a two-run home run. Dawson did not have a hit, but he drew three walks and stole his 9th base of the season.

Juan Carlos Santos recorded the final two outs of the 8th inning via the strikeout, and Nick Hernandez worked around a hit to earn the save, striking out two in the 9th.

W- Ethan Clark (4-1)

Wander Franco opened the scoring with an RBI triple in the 1st inning. Joan Mauricio added a sac fly in the 2nd inning. The Mets tied the game with those two runs in the 5th, but Brody Westmoreland broke the tie with an RBI triple in the 8th. L- Jeremy Guthrie (6-6)
S- James Hoyt (23)

Fresno home runs: Alex Bregman (6, 20 season; solo in 4th), Tyler White (9, solo in 9th)

The Grizzlies earned the series split as Brad Peacock handcuffed the New Orleans offense.

Fresno only had 4 hits in this game, but they had the only scoring plays of the game. Alex Bregman smacked a solo homer in the 4th inning, and Tyler White provided a little insurance in the 9th with a solo blast of his own.

Peacock allowed just 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 9 over 7.2 shutout innings. James Hoyt earned the save by striking out 2 over 1.1 perfect innings.

Tonight, Fresno will begin a 4-game series in Round Rock. Brady Rodgers will take on Eric Jokisch at 7:05.

Rancho Cucamonga 10, Lancaster 7

W- Adam Bray (1-0)
L- Scott Weathersby (3-5, 4-5 season)

Lancaster home runs: Bobby Boyd (7, solo in 3rd), Trent Woodward (3, 4 season; 3-run in 7th)

The JetHawks scored 4 runs in the top of the 7th to tie the game at 7, but the Quakes quickly broke the tie with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the 7th.

Trent Woodward opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the 1st inning. Bobby Boyd whacked a solo homer in the 3rd, and Marc Wik added an RBI single in the 6th.

Tony Nuñez started the 7th-inning rally with a 1-out single and scampered home on a triple from Johnny Sewald. Ramon Laureano drew a walk and stole 2nd (33), and Woodward stepped up and tied the game with a 3-run home run. Woodward matched a career high with 4 RBI, while Sewald (3B, RBI, 2 R), Laureano (2 2B, 2 R, SB), and Wik (RBI) all finished with 2 hits in the game.

Brock Dykxhoorn went 4 innings and allowed 6 runs on 6 hits (1 solo and two 2-run homers), walked 2, and struck out 1. Scott Weathersby was the first man out of the Lancaster bullpen, and he allowed 3 runs (2 inherited runners charged to him) on 4 hits and walked 2 in 2 innings. He faced 2 batters in the 7th and did not retire either of them, so Jacob Dorris took over the 7th. The 2 runners he inherited from Weathersby both scored, and he allowed a run of his own on 2 hits and struck out 2 in the inning. Kevin Comer worked around a hit to throw a scoreless 8th.

In game 3 of this series, Josh James will take on Felipe Gonzalez. First pitch is at 7:05 Pacific.

Lake County 9, Quad Cities 4

W- Matt Esparza (8-6)
L- Chris Murphy (3-6)
S- Devon Stewart (1)

QC home runs: None.

The Captains took the series thanks to a 5-run 5th inning.

Chris Murphy's outing went well for the first 4 innings, but Lake County shelled him in the 5th with a grand slam and a solo homer. In his 5 innings, he allowed 6 other hits, walked 2, and struck out 1. Zac Person allowed a run on 2 hits and struck out 2 in 2 innings. Makay Nelson came out for the 8th but failed to record an out; the Captains loaded the bases on him with a single and 2 walks. Ralph Garza Jr. came on to take over the inning. Garza didn't allow any runs of his own, but he couldn't prevent the Captains from inflicting damage in the inning, which went to Nelson. He allowed 2 hits and struck out 1.

Hector Roa put Quad Cities on the board with an RBI double in the 7th inning. In the 8th, Kyle Tucker hit an RBI infield single. He ended up getting forced out at 2nd base, but Arturo Michelena scored on the play. Pat Porter drove in the Banditos' final run with an RBI triple. Myles Straw finished 3-4 with a double and scored a run.

The Banditos are back home, and they have two days off. They'll be back in action on Wednesday against the Dayton Dragons.

Tri-City 9, Batavia 8

W- Sebastian Kessay (2-1, 3-4 season)
L- Brent Wheatley (0-2)
S- Juan Carlos Santos (1, 3 season)

TC home runs: Ronnie Dawson 2 (4; 3-run in 1st, 2-run in 7th)

This game was a little crazy, to say the least.

The ValleyCats jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the 1st inning, but Batavia took the lead thanks to a 5-run 5th. TC responded with a 5-run inning of their own in the 7th to regain control and successfully fended off a 9th-inning rally from the Muckdogs to escape with the victory.

Randy César opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st. One batter later, Ronnie Dawson whacked a 3-run home run, his first homer of the night.

Rodrigo Ayarza singled with one out in the 7th inning and came around to score on a Ryne Birk double. Brauly Mejia and César followed with RBI singles, and Dawson put Tri-City in the lead once again with his second home run of the game; this one was of the two-run variety.

Dawson reached base in all four of his plate appearances; he also drew a couple of walks to go along with his homers. César had a couple of RBI singles and scored on both of Dawson's blasts. Ayarza finished 2-5 at the top of the order.

Erasmo Pinales went 4.2 innings and allowed 3 runs (all inherited runners that were charged to him) on 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. Luis Ramirez got the final out of the 5th with a strikeout, but not before he allowed 5 runs in the inning. He walked in one of Pinales' runners, and the other two runners scored on a bases-clearing double, which was the only hit he allowed in the inning. Ramirez, who was charged with a run of his own on the double, also had an unearned run charged against him thanks to an error.

Sebastian Kessay was next, and he allowed a hit and struck out 4 over 2 scoreless innings. Carlos Sierra threw a 1-2-3 8th and got 2 outs in the 9th, but getting that last out proved to be a challenge. The Muckdogs had the bases loaded once again in the 9th inning, and Juan Carlos Santos came on to try and rescue Sierra. He allowed a 2-run single to the first man he faced, but he pulled himself together to secure the victory. Sierra allowed 3 runs (2 inherited runners charged to him), 2 hits, walked 2, and fanned 1.

In game 2 of this series, Framber Valdez will face Jordan Holloway. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

Greeneville 5, Bluefield 4 in 20 innings

W- Reggie Johnson (2-0)
L- Juandy Mendoza (0-1)

Greeneville home runs: None.

This game started at 6:01 P.M. Eastern. 6 hours and 31 minutes later, the Appy Astros walked off with their 7th consecutive victory. This was the longest game in Greeneville history.

The Appy Astros used 7 pitchers and two position players on the mound. Some of the highlights included Tyler Britton recording 7 strikeouts in 3.1 innings, Devin Raftery recording 8 of his 9 outs via the strikeout, and two position players, Chaz Pal and Tyler Wolfe, coming in to throw two scoreless innings apiece. Wolfe, who is normally a second baseman, even got 3 strikeouts!

Greeneville staved off a Bluefield threat in the 9th in which they had the bases loaded and one out. They also threw out the potential go-ahead run at home in the 16th and stranded another would-be go-ahead runner at 3rd. Both teams had runners thrown out at the plate in the 18th inning.

Marcos Almonte tripled in the 1st inning and opened the scoring by coming home on a wild pitch. Reiny Beltre added a sac fly in the 2nd inning. Jonathan Arauz hit an RBI single in the 4th, and Almonte doubled and later scored when Troy Sieber grounded into a fielder's choice in the 5th inning. Nash Knight tied the game at 4 with a solo home run in the top of the 8th for Bluefield, and for the next 11.5 innings, the game remained in a 4-4 deadlock.

Gabriel Bracamonte singled with 1 out in the bottom of the 20th, advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch, and scored the winning run on a single from Abraham Toro. Arauz and Toro both finished with 3 hits, while Almonte and Bracamonte had 2 hits apiece.

Greeneville will look for the sweep tonight as Ricardo Castro takes on Kyle Weatherly. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

L- Eliezer Cuello (1-1)
S- Manuel Gonzalez (1)

GCL home runs: None.

Both of the GCL Astros' runs came in the 3rd inning; Brody Westmoreland hit an RBI groundout and Carlos Machado added an RBI single. Machado finished 2-4.

L- Zach Lee (7-6)
S- James Hoyt (19)

Fresno home runs: Tyler Heineman (3, solo in 8th)

The Tacos earned the split as Brendan McCurry and James Hoyt locked the Rainiers down.

Tony Kemp doubled to lead off the bottom of the 1st and scored the first run of the evening on an RBI triple from Colin Moran. Preston Tucker drove Moran in with an RBI double, and Jon Kemmer finished off the scoring in the opening frame with an RBI single. After Matt Duffy led off the 3rd inning with a double, Kemmer added another RBI single to his ledger. Tyler Heineman provided a crucial insurance run in the 8th inning by launching a solo homer, his 3rd of the season. Derek Fisher got the start in center field and hit an RBI single in the 3rd inning. J.D. Davis entered the game in the 6th and finished 1-2 with a run scored.

Keegan Yuhl got the start and allowed a hit in a scoreless 1st. Evan Grills allowed a run on 3 hits in the 4th, and Edison Frias worked around a hit to throw a scoreless 5th inning.

The Hooks will return to action on Thursday when they begin a 3-game series with Springfield.

Lancaster 6, High Desert 3

W- Dean Deetz (4-3)
L- Ariel Jurado (6-2)
S- Gonzalo Sañudo (1)

Lancaster home runs: Keach Ballard (2, 3 season; 2-run in 6th)

High Desert hasn't exactly been welcoming to the JetHawks, but they clinched the series with this victory.

Bryan Muñiz finished 4-4, and his RBI single in the 1st inning opened up the scoring. Lancaster scored 3 in the 4th, thanks to a 2-run double from Jamie Ritchie, who later scored on an error that allowed Brooks Marlow to reach. The Mavericks scored a run in the 6th to get within 1, but Keach Ballard clubbed a 2-run home run in the 6th inning to create some separation. Johnny Sewald and Ramon Laureano both finished 2-5.

Akeem Bostick and Dean Deetz both pitched 4 innings. Bositck allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 2, while Deetz allowed an unearned run on 4 hits and struck out 2. Cedar Rapids 8, Quad Cities 5

W- Sam Clay (5-4)
L- Elieser Hernandez (3-2, 4-6 season)

QC home runs: None.

The Banditos scored 2 in the 1st inning, but the Kernels quickly turned the tables on them by putting up 5 in the 2nd inning.

Bristol 8, Greeneville 7

W- Geoff Hartlieb (2-0)
L- Colin McKee (0-1)

Greeneville home runs: Spencer Johnson (1, 2-run in 2nd)

The Appy Astros were swept out of Bristol as their bullpen faltered late.

Frankeny Fernandez hit a 1-out single in the 1st inning. He then stole 2nd and scored the first run of the evening on an error that allowed Bryan De La Cruz to reach.

In the 2nd inning, Miguelangel Sierra smacked an RBI double, and Fernandez followed with a 2-run double. Spencer Johnson led Division I with 24 home runs in the spring, and he followed those two run-producing doubles by whacking his first home run as a pro. Johnson's 2-run shot put Greeneville up 6-0 at that point.

Unfortunately, the Pirates erased their lead with a 6-run 7th inning. Luis Payano hit a sac fly in the 8th to put the Appy Astros back in front, but Bristol responded by scoring 2 runs in the 8th to take the lead. Fernandez finished 2-3 and stole 2 bases (4).

Felix Lucas reached on an error to lead off the 6th inning and advanced to 3rd on a double from Juan Infante. Bernardo Heras walked to load the bases, and Renaigel Martis cleared them with a grand slam. Fresno 4, Tacoma 3

W- Brady Rodgers (6-3)
L- Kraig Sitton (0-2)
S- James Hoyt (15)

Fresno home runs: A.J. Reed (9, solo in 1st)

A 3-run 7th inning turned the tide in the favor of the Grizzlies. Tacoma scored a run in the bottom of the 7th to make things a little too close for comfort, but Kevin Chapman and James Hoyt quashed any thoughts of a comeback.

Brady Rodgers pitched 7 innings and allowed 3 runs on 8 hits (solo homer), walked 1, and struck out 8. Kevin Chapman got the first 2 outs in the 8th via strikeout, and James Hoyt closed out the game by striking out 3 in 1.1 innings.

A.J. Reed opened the scoring with a solo home run in the 1st inning. He finished 2-5 and added an RBI double to his ledger in the 7th. Later in the inning, Reed came around to score when Matt Duffy hit a 2-run double. Preston Tucker (2 BB, R) and Eury Perez (2B, R) also finished with 2 hits on the evening.

Mike Hauschild will get the start for Fresno today. He was slated to face Adrian Sampson, but since Sampson made his Major League debut on Saturday, Tacoma will have someone else make the start. First pitch is at 1:35 Pacific.

Corpus Christi 6, Frisco 2

W- David Paulino (4-2)
L- Jacob Shortslef (1-1)
S- Eric Peterson (1, 3 season)

CC home runs: Conrad Gregor (3, solo in 4th)

Once again, the Hooks broke open a tie game in the 7th inning on their way to taking 4 out of 5 from the Roughriders.

Conrad Gregor's solo home run came with 1 out in the 4th inning and was the first run of the game.
D.J. Fisher smacked an RBI double in the 5th. Frisco scored 2 runs in the 6th to tie the game, but Corpus Christi mounted the perfect response by scoring 4 in the top of the 7th.

Just like on Friday, the Hooks' 7th-inning outburst began when the first three batters of the inning reached. Mott Hyde and Danry Vásquez led off with singles, and Alex Bregman joined them on the bases by drawing a walk. Fisher and J.D. Davis drew walks to bring in Hyde and Danry, and Bregman wound up scoring on a wild pitch. Nick Tanielu drove in the final run of the evening with a sac fly.

David Paulino went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 6. Eric Peterson pitched 3 scoreless innings to record the save; he allowed 3 hits and struck out 4.

Tonight, the Hooks are in San Antonio to begin a 4-game series with the Missions. Keegan Yuhl will start game 1, and he'll take on Zech Lemond, a graduate of Waltrip High and a former Rice pitcher. First pitch is at 6:05.

Bakersfield 10, Lancaster 7

W- Tyler Pike (3-5)
L- Andrew Thome (1-1, 3-2 season)
S- Jake Zokan (2)

Lancaster home runs: None.

The JetHawks managed to respond to a 6-run 6th inning from the Blaze with 4 of their own in the 7th to make it a 1-run game, but in the end, Bakersfield was able to put the game just out of reach with a run in the 8th and another in the 9th.

Lancaster scored 3 in the 3rd inning to take the lead. Ramon Laureano drew a one-out walk and scored the JetHawks' first run on a double from Bryan Muñiz. Muñiz later scored on a botched force attempt that saw Trent Woodward reach base safely; Woodward was credited with an RBI on the play. Johnny Sewald followed by laying down an RBI bunt single to bring in Garrett Stubbs.

Bobby Boyd finished 3-5 with 2 doubles and a 2-run triple in the 7th inning. He scored when Laureano grounded into a fielder's choice. Laureano advanced to 3rd on a Muñiz single and scored on a sac fly from Stubbs.

Rogelio Armenteros went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 7. Andrew Thome got burned in the 6th, and I will leave it at that. Jacob Dorris was the next pitcher to appear; he allowed 2 runs (1 earned, 1 inherited runner charged to him) on 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5 in 2.2 innings. Ryan Thompson got the final 2 outs of the 9th via the strikeout.

The JetHawks will look to avoid the sweep as Dean Deetz gets the start. He'll take on Eddie Campbell at 2:05 Pacific.

Quad Cities 3, Cedar Rapids 2

W- David Schmidt (2-0, 3-1 season)
L- Cam Booser (0-2)

QC home runs: None.

The Banditos got on the board in this series by breaking a 2-2 tie in the 8th inning.

Myles Straw doubled to lead off the bottom of the 1st, advanced to 3rd on an Osvaldo Duarte sacrifice bunt, and scored the first run of the evening on an RBI single from Pat Porter. Kristian Trompiz hit a sac fly in the 5th, and Connor Goedert put Quad Cities in front with a sac fly in the 8th inning. Dex McCall finished 2-3 and was the only player on either side to record a multi-hit game.

Albert Abreu allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 3 in 7 innings of work. This was his longest outing of the season. Abreu didn't post a gaudy strikeout total, but he did his job by keeping the Kernels at bay. David Schmidt pitched the final 2 innings and allowed a run on an infield single, walked 2, and struck out 1.

Justin Ferrell will start the River Bandits' final game of the 1st half. He'll take on Sam Clay at 1:15.

Connecticut 9, Tri-City 5

W- Jose Fuentes (1-0)
L- Ben Smith (0-1)

TC home runs: None.

The ValleyCats split their first series of the season as an 8-1 deficit after 2 innings proved to be too much for them to overcome.

Stephen Wrenn doubled to lead off the bottom of the 1st and scored Tri-City's first run on a Taylor Jones RBI single. Wrenn, who reached in all 5 of his plate appearances, going 3-3 with a couple of walks, scored 4 of Tri-City's 5 runs in this game. He and Alex De Goti scored on a Daz Cameron double in the 3rd. Wrenn scored on a wild pitch in the 5th and on an RBI single from Carmen Benedetti in the 7th. Daz, Benedetti, and De Goti all had 2 hits on the night.

Ben Smith pitched 1+ inning and allowed 8 runs (5 earned) on 3 hits (3-run homer) and walked 4. Smith probably did not envision his pro debut going the way it did on Saturday, but after what he has had to endure health-wise over the last two years, he is probably immensely grateful for the opportunity to play baseball again. I'll definitely be rooting for him this season.

Hector Perez was the first man out of the Tri-City bullpen, and he stopped the bleeding by throwing 4 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits, walking 3, and striking out 6. Edgardo Sandoval walked 1 and struck out 1 in 2.2 innings of work, and Josue Uribe allowed a run on a single and walked 1 in 1.1 innings.

Austin Nicely will be on the mound for the ValleyCats today as they begin a 3-game series in Brooklyn. First pitch is at 4:00 Eastern.

DSL Astros Blue 11, DSL Marlins 10

W- Ronel Blanco (2-0)
L- Anderson De Leon (0-1)
S- Johsson Arias (2)

Blue home runs: None.

The Blue team just wins. This latest victory saw them withstand a 7-run 1st inning from the Marlins and rally to erase a 10-7 deficit by scoring 4 runs in the top of the 9th inning to snatch the victory.

Juan Piñeda opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st inning. The Blue team scored 4 in the 2nd as Ozziel Sanchez-Galan ripped an RBI double. Nicolás Miranda drove in another run with a groundout, and Sanchez-Galan and Ronny Jimenez scored on errors. Angel De Leon ripped an RBI double in the 6th, while Carlos Canelon scored on a wild pitch in the 7th inning. The Blue team headed into the final inning trailing 10-7.

Canelon led off the inning with a double. He advanced to 3rd base on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI single from Ronny Rafael. Miranda tied the game with a 2-run single and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.

Miranda (2 RBI, 3 R, 3 BB), De Leon (2B, RBI), Canelon (2B, 2 R), Rafael (RBI, 2 R), and Samir Caraballo (R, BB) all had 2 hits on the day for the Blue team.

Juan Lopez struggled out of the gate, and we'll leave it at that. Robert Corniel was the first man out of the bullpen and pitched 2.1 innings, allowing a run on 2 hits, walking 2, and striking out 1. Jesus Bernaez allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 3, and struck out 2 in 1.2 innings. Ronel Blanco was next, and he allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 7 in 3.2 innings. Johsson Arias worked around a walk to record the save; he got the final 2 outs of the game, striking out 1.

The Blue team will play the Marlins again on Monday.

DSL Astros Orange 8, DSL Rays2 2

W- Diosward Gonzalez (1-0)
L- Luis Gonzalez (0-1)
S- Kilvio Peralta (1)

Orange home runs: None.

The Orange team saw their 4-0 lead get cut into a little in the 6th inning, but they responded by scoring 4 in the bottom of the 6th to put this game out of reach.

Ramiro Rodriguez put the Orange team on the board first with an RBI triple in the 3rd inning. They scored 3 in the 5th as Ronaldo Urdaneta hit an RBI groundout and Ramiro and Gilberto Celestino hit RBI singles. In the 6th, Urdaneta reached on an error that allowed Kendy Moya to score. Ramiro followed with an RBI single, and Celestino hit a 2-run single to bring in the final runs of the day.

Ramiro Rodriguez, Moya, Urdaneta, and Felix Lucas scored 2 runs apiece for the Orange team. Ramiro finished 3-4, while Celestino went 2-3.

Diosward Gonzalez allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6 over 5 shutout innings. Asael Uribe pitched the 6th and allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. Kilvio Peralta got the 3-inning save, allowing 3 hits, walking 2, and striking out 2.

These two teams will play again on Monday.
