Albuquerque 7, Fresno 1

Fresno home runs: Tyler White (12, solo in 9th)

The Grizzlies have chosen a most inopportune time to go on a cold streak; with this loss, they have dropped 9 of their last 11 games.

Tyler White spoiled the shutout with a solo home run in the 9th inning. D.J. Fisher finished 2-4 with a double.

Keegan Yuhl went 5.2 innings and allowed 5 runs (1 inherited runner charged to him) on 12 hits (solo homer), walked 2, and struck out 3. Aaron West allowed a hit and struck out 1 in 1.1 innings, and Chris Cotton allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in the 8th.

Fresno will look to avoid the sweep tonight as Brady Rodgers gets the start. He'll face German Marquez at 6:35 Mountain.

Corpus Christi was off

The Hooks are back home, and they'll start a 4-game series with Midland tonight at 7:05. Kent Emanuel will face Heath Fillmyer.

Lancaster was off

The JetHawks will start a 3-game series at The Hangar with High Desert at 6:35 Pacific.

Cedar Rapids 4, Quad Cities 1

QC home runs: None.

Both teams had 6 hits, but a couple of Quad Cities errors led to two Cedar Rapids runs.

Bobby Wernes went 3-4 with a double and scored the Banditos' lone run on a single from Arturo Michelena in the 6th inning.

Franklin Perez went 3 innings and allowed 3 runs (1 earned, 1 inherited runner charged to him) on 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 3. Sebastian Kessay was the first man out of the Quad Cities bullpen, and he took ownership of the 4th after Perez failed to record an out in the inning. Inheriting a bases-loaded, no out situation, he allowed one of Perez's runners to score on a sac fly.

Kessay also pitched in the 5th inning, allowing a run of his own on a wild pitch. He walked 2 and struck out 4 in the 2 innings. In his Quad Cities debut, Carlos Sierra allowed a hit, walked 3, and struck out 5 in the final 3 innings.

Matt Bower will start game 2 of this series. He'll take on Eduardo Del Rosario at 6:35.

Game 1: Hudson Valley 1, Tri-City 0

The ValleyCats' bats went quiet in the first game of the doubleheader; they only managed to scrounge up 5 singles.

Erasmo Pinales allowed 3 hits and struck out 2 over 2 innings, and Edgardo Sandoval went 5 innings, allowing the only run of the game on 8 hits and striking out 1.

Did game 2 have a better result in store for the ValleyCats?

Game 2: Hudson Valley 3, Tri-City 1

W- Brock Burke (2-3)
L- Makay Nelson (2-1, 2-3 season)
S- Brandon Lawson (2)

TC home runs: None.

Unfortunately, it was more of the same in game 2 as Tri-City suffered the doubleheader sweep.

Tyler Wolfe went 2-3; he led off the 7th with a double and scored the ValleyCats' only run of the day on a passed ball. Alex De Goti finished 2-2.

Makay Nelson went 4 innings and allowed 2 runs, both of which scored on a home run. He allowed one other hit, walked 3, and struck out 4. Angelo Serrano pitched the final 3 innings and allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6.

The ValleyCats are in Auburn tonight to begin a 3-game series. First pitch is at 7:05 Eastern.

Burlington 7, Greeneville 3

W- Alex Close (2-0)
L- Diogenes Almengo (1-2)

Greeneville home runs: None.

The Appy Astros had more hits in this game, but the Royals' crooked-numbered innings gave them the win.

Wilson Amador, who was making his Greeneville debut, doubled to lead off the game and scored the first run of the evening on a single from Stijn van der Meer. Vicente Sanchez hit a two-out double in the 5th and wound up scoring on a wild pitch. Sanchez finished 3-4 and added an RBI single to his ledger in the 9th. Van der Meer went 2-4 on the night.

Diogenes Almengo went 2.2 innings and allowed 5 runs (4 earned, 1 inherited runner charged to him) on 4 hits (solo homer), walked 2, and struck out 1. Reggie Johnson allowed 2 runs, both of which scored on a home run, one other hit, and walked 2 in 2.1 innings. Patrick Sandoval allowed a hit and fanned 5 over 3 scoreless.

Forrest Whitley will start the series finale, and he'll go up against David McKay at 7:00 Eastern.

DSL Astros Blue 7, DSL Athletics 2

W- Jheyson Caraballo (3-0)
L- Enmanuel Sullivan (1-4)

Blue home runs: None.

The Blue team broke a 1-1 tie in emphatic fashion with 4 runs in the 5th and 2 more in the 6th for good measure.

Carlos Canelon drew a bases-loaded walk in the 1st inning to bring in the first run of the day. Nicolás Miranda broke the tie in the 5th inning with a 2-run single. Canelon followed with an RBI groundout, and Angel Tejeda added an RBI single. Enmanuel Valdez hit a sac fly in the 6th, and Anibal Sierra followed by driving in the Blue team's final run of the day with a single. Sierra and Tejeda both went 2-4.

Jheyson Caraballo allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2 in 5 innings. Yonatan Quintin was the first reliever to appear for the Blue team, and in 2.1 innings, he had an inherited runner charged to him after Yeremi Ceballos threw a wild pitch in the 8th. Quintin allowed a hit and struck out 1. Ceballos got the final two outs of the 8th and walked 2. Angel Matos walked 1 in a scoreless 9th.

The Orange team was also in action against the Mets 2; their game was suspended in the 6th in a 4-4 tie. Miguel Matos allowed an unearned run on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4 in 4 innings.

The A teams walked off with wins in their games and everyone won!

Fresno 7, El Paso 1

W- Mike Hauschild (5-6)
L- Frank Garces (1-1)

Fresno home runs: Danny Worth (8, 2-run in 3rd), Jon Singleton (14, 2-run in 5th)

The Tacos did something the Grizzlies were unable to do in this series by defeating the Chihuahuas.

Danny Worth opened up the scoring in the 3rd with a 2-run homer. Colin Moran added an RBI single in the 4th, and then Jon Singleton ripped a 2-run homer of his own in the 5th. Worth added a triple to his ledger in the 6th and scored on a sac fly from Preston Tucker, who drove in the final run of the day with another sacrifice fly in the 8th inning.

The top third of the order of Nolan Fontana (2-5), Colin Moran (3-5), and Danny Worth (2-3) combined to go 7-13 with a home run (Worth's), 3 RBI (Worth 2, Moran 1), 4 runs scored (Worth 2, Moran and Fontana 1), and 2 walks (both drawn by Worth).

Mike Hauschild went 5 innings and allowed an unearned run on 4 hits, walked 4, and struck out 2. Josh Fields and Jandel Gustave followed with 2 scoreless innings apiece. Fields struck out 3 over 2 perfect innings, while Gustave allowed a hit, walked 1, and fanned 1.

Fresno has today off; they will welcome Salt Lake to Chukchansi Park for a 4-game series starting tomorrow.

Corpus Christi 6, Midland 1

W- Keegan Yuhl (5-1)
L- Daniel Gossett (0-2)

CC home runs: Nick Tanielu (2, 6 season; solo in 6th)

The Hooks came alive in the middle innings and Keegan Yuhl shut the Hounds down.

Yuhl allowed just 3 hits and struck out 7 over 5 shutout innings. Kyle Smith and Michael Freeman pitched 2 innings apiece out of the bullpen. Smith allowed a hit and struck out 1, and Freeman allowed a run on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2.

D.J. Fisher led off the 4th with a single. He then stole 2nd and scored the first run of the game on a single from Conrad Gregor. With 1 out in the 5th, Chan-Jong Moon and Teoscar Hernandez hit singles. Alex Bregman followed by hitting a single of his own. Moon and Teoscar scored, and Bregman advanced to 3rd on a throwing error from Midland CF Brett Vertigan. Bregman scored on Fisher's groundout. Nick Tanielu led off the 6th with a homer, and later in the inning, Moon reached on an error that allowed James Ramsay to score. Gregor finished 2-4 with a double and an RBI.

Kent Emanuel will start game 2 of this series. He'll face Raul Alcantara at 7:05.

Lancaster 3, Modesto 2

W- Ryan Deemes (2-0, 3-0 season)
L- Jerry Vasto (0-1)

Lancaster home runs: Bryan Muñiz (7, 2-run in 8th)

The JetHawks scored all 3 of their runs in the final 2 innings and completed the sweep in walk-off fashion.

The only run that Rogelio Armenteros allowed in his 6.2 innings of work came on a solo homer from Dom Nuñez in the 5th. He allowed two other hits, walked 2, and struck out 9. Kevin Comer pitched an inning (final out of the 7th, 2 outs in the 8th) and allowed a run on 2 hits and struck out 1. Ryan Deemes struck out 1 over 1.1 perfect innings and got the win.

It took 8 innings for Lancaster to get on the board, but when they did, they managed to draw even. Bryan Muñiz did the honors by clubbing a 2-run homer in the 8th to tie the game at 2. Brooks Marlow led off the bottom of the 9th with a single and made way for Aaron Mizell, who advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch. Johnny Sewald walked, and the two of them advanced a base on a sac bunt from Luis Reynoso. Bobby Boyd was given a free pass to 1st base to set up a force out at any base, but Garrett Stubbs was the hero as he came through with the walk-off RBI single. Stubbs finished 3-5, while Marlow also had a 3-hit night.

After a day off, the JetHawks will travel to Visalia to start a 4-game series.

Quad Cities 5, Beloit 4

W- David Schmidt (1-0)
L- Armando Ruiz (2-2)

QC home runs: Osvaldo Duarte (1, solo in 5th)

The Banditos fought back from an early 3-0 deficit to take the lead. Beloit managed to tie the game in the 8th, but extra innings would not be needed as Quad Cities walked off with the win.

Bobby Wernes put Quad Cities on the board with an RBI single in the 3rd inning. Osvaldo Duarte hit his first homer of the season, a solo shot in the 5th. The Banditos took the lead in the 6th thanks to an RBI double from Kyle Tucker and an RBI single from Dex McCall. Connor Goedert singled to lead off the 9th and advanced to 2nd on a sac bunt from Keach Ballard. Duarte went down on strikes for the 2nd out of the inning, but Wernes was the hero as he delivered the game-winning RBI single. Duarte (solo HR, 2 R) and Wernes (2 RBI singles) both had 2 hits at the bottom of the order.

Albert Abreu went 3 innings and allowed 3 runs on 2 hits, walked 5, and struck out 4. Ralph Garza Jr. tagged in to throw 4 scoreless, allowing 2 hits, walking 1, and striking out 3. David Schmidt was at the center of a particularly contentious moment in the 8th when he was called for a balk that allowed the Snappers to have two runners in scoring position. Quad Cities pitching coach Chris Holt was not pleased with that decision to say the least, and after saying his piece, he got tossed. After that balk call, Beloit tied the game at 4 with an RBI single. Schmidt went 2 innings and allowed one other hit while fanning 1.

Justin Ferrell will start game 3 of this series. He'll face Michael Murray at 7.

DSL Astros Blue 8, DSL Phillies1 7

W- Maikel Sepulveda (1-0)
L- Moises Nolasco (0-1)
S- Juan Lopez (1)

Blue home runs: None.

The Blue team jumped out to an 8-1 lead and then held off a furious rally from the Phillies to get the win.

Alfredo Angarita led off the game with a single. He advanced to 2nd on a single from Cesar Cortez and tagged up on a Jose Benjamin flyout. Cortez stole 2nd, and on the errant throw down, Angarita was able to score the first run of the day. Angel De Leon brought Cortez home with a single. De Leon added an RBI double to his ledger in the 3rd, although he was the final out of the inning when he tried to stretch it into a triple. The Blue team got 4 in the 4th as Nicolas Miranda ripped an RBI double. He later scored on a wild pitch. Angarita added an RBI infield single and Cortez drove in another run with a groundout. Ronny Rafael added an RBI single in the 5th.

Angarita (RBI, R), Benjamin (2B, R, SB [1]), and De Leon (2B, 2 RBI) all had 2 hits in this game.

Maikel Sepulveda went 5 innings and allowed 4 runs on 6 hits (solo homer), walked 1, and struck out 1. Harlen Florencio allowed 3 runs on 3 hits and walked 2 in the 6th, and Juan Lopez got the 3-inning save, allowing 2 hits, walking 2, and striking out 2.

These two teams are currently playing at the Astros complex.

DSL Astros Orange 8, DSL Rays2 7

W- Gabriel Pirela (1-0)
L- Joel Peguero (0-1)

Orange home runs: None.

The Orange team got outhit 8-5 but won in the column that matters most. They scored 2 runs in the 8th to take the lead and held off a Rays rally in the 9th to get the victory. They did their damage off of walks, as they drew 17 of them. Only in the Dominican Summer League.

Hector Martinez, Alvaro Alvarez, and Ronaldo Urdaneta all walked to lead off the 2nd inning. Martinez scored the first run of the day when Jose Miguel Hernandez grounded into a force out. Kendy Moya added to the lead by smacking a 2-run triple. Ramiro Rodriguez added a 2-run double in the 4th. Gilberto Celestino hit an RBI single in the 6th, and Enmanuel Valdez hit an RBI double and scored on a double play in the 8th.

It's rather hard to win when your pitchers issue 9 walks while only striking out 1, but this is the Dominican Summer League, where lines like these occur more often than not.

Diosward Gonzalez went 2.2 innings and allowed 2 hits and had the Orange team's only strikeout. Michael Richez went 1.1 innings and allowed 3 runs on 3 hits and walked 3. Kilvio Peralta allowed a hit and walked 3 over 2 scoreless. Jacques Sambo came on for the 7th allowed 3 runs (2 inherited runners charged to him) and walked 2. Gabriel Pirela allowed an unearned run of his own on 3 hits and walked 1 in 2.1 innings.

These two teams are currently playing at the Rays' complex.
