Triple-A All-Star Game

The PCL All-Stars stormed out to an 8-1 lead and defeated the International League 12-7.

A.J. Reed got the start at first base and went 0-2 with a walk, a couple of strikeouts, and scored a run before leaving the game. Garrett Stubbs entered the game in the 7th and played the rest of the game behind the plate. He got plunked in his only plate appearance in the 9th. Stubbs then stole second and scored on a double from Ildemaro Vargas.

Fresno returns to action tomorrow when they start a four-game series in Tacoma.

Corpus Christi 11, Midland 6

CC home runs: None.

A quick start allowed the Hooks to take the series opener out in West Texas.

Jorge Alcala turned in a bare minimum quality start as he allowed eight hits, walked one, and struck out four. Ronel Blanco allowed two runs on two hits, walked one, and struck out one in the 7th, and Alex Winkelman allowed a run on two hits, walked one, and struck out one over the final two innings.

Carmen Benedetti opened the scoring with a two-run triple in the 2nd inning and came home on a base hit from Aníbal Sierra. All three runs in that inning came with two outs. All four Corpus runs in the 3rd also came with two outs. Chas McCormick brought Lorenzo Quintana in with a flare out to center and then Sierra followed with a two-run single. Benedetti, who walked and then advanced to third on Sierra's single, scored on an Andy Piñeda single. Ryne Birk ripped an RBI double in the 4th and Quintana smacked a two-run triple in the 8th to get Corpus to double-digits on the evening. Benedetti capped off the evening with a sac fly in the 9th. McCormick and Sierra both finished 3-5 on the evening, while Birk and Piñeda had two hits apiece. Quintana also stole a couple of bases to go along with his three-bagger; he now has six steals on the year.

Buies Creek 3, Down East 1

Patrick Sandoval's breakout season continues. The Astros threw a sizeable amount of money at him following the 2015 draft to get him to spurn USC. It's been a bit of a slow burn with him, but he has truly blossomed into a legit prospect in 2018. When you look at his numbers for the year, it's pretty hard to believe that it includes an outing in which he allowed ten runs.

Sandoval allowed just one hit, walked two, and struck out eight in seven shutout innings. He has yet to allow a run of any kind in 16 innings with Buies Creek. The Wood Ducks spoiled the shutout with a run in the 8th off Colin McKee, which was unearned. McKee allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out two.

After both teams combined for 13 zeroes on the scoreboard, Jonathan Arauz finally opened the scoring when he came home on an error that allowed Bryan de la Cruz to reach safely. De La Cruz wound up scoring on an Osvaldo Duarte single. Cody Bohanek drew a leadoff walk in the 8th and scored on a sac fly from Carlos Canelón. Duarte finished 2-4 with a stolen base (18).

The Carolina Stros will look to get the split at 6:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 3, Dayton 2

The Banditos nipped the Dragons with a couple of runs in the 6th and their pitchers held the Dragons to three hits on the night.

Ruben Castro led off the 4th with a base hit and David Hensley promptly brought him home with a double. Hensley walked to lead off the 6th. Colton Shaver and Chandler Taylor joined him on the bases after they got on with singles. Hensley ended up scoring on a wild pitch and Logan Mattix followed with a sac fly that turned out to be the decisive scoring play. Taylor finished 3-3. Shaver and Castro had two hits apiece.

Enoli Paredes went 4.2 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and struck out eight. Bryan Abreu was a winner in his Midwest League debut as he struck out two of the four Dayton batters he faced. Chad Donato got his first career save with three scoreless; he walked one and struck out three.

Peter Solomon will take on Austin Orweiler in game two of this series. First pitch is at 6:00 Eastern.

Williamsport 14, Tri-City 6

It was a rough day in the field for César Salazar, Michael Wielansky, and Luis Encarnación as they committed two errors apiece. Seven of the Crosscutters' runs were unearned.

The ValleyCats pitchers got peppered incessantly as 11 of the 14 hits they allowed were singles. As I already stated, half of Williamsport's runs were unearned thanks to the six gaffes in the field.

Wielansky got Tri-City on the board with an RBI single in the 6th and an error later in the inning allowed Encarnación and Ramiro Rodriguez to come home. Alex McKenna hit an RBI single in the 7th. Encarnación hit an RBI single in the 9th and McKenna later scored on a wild pitch. Wielansky and McKenna both finished with two hits in the contest.

The ValleyCats and Crosscutters will continue their series at 7:05 Eastern.

GCL Astros 3, GCL Marlins 2 in 10 innings

W- Jonathan Bermúdez (1-0)
L- Nathan Alexander (0-1)

GCL home runs: None.

The Palm Beach Stros got two in the 9th to tie and got their leadoff runner across in the first extra frame to stun the Marlins.

Miguel Figueroa allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out two in three innings of work. Layne Henderson was the first man out of the GCLstros bullpen and allowed a run on three hits, walked two, and struck out two in 2.1 innings. Freylin Garcia was next and he went 2.2 innings, allowing an unearned run on a passed ball, a hit, walking three, and striking out two. Jonathan Bermúdez struck out three over two perfect innings to get the win.

Juan Ramirez and Ronaldo Urdaneta both singled to start the final inning and Ramirez scored on a Hector Martinez single. Urdaneta scored the tying run on an error. Carlos Diaz led off the 10th in scoring position and scored when Gerry Castillo hit into a fielder's choice. Diaz and Yorbin Ceuta both finished 2-4 on the day.

Game 1: DSL Astros 5, DSL Athletics 1

DSL home runs: None.

The Academy used a three-run 3rd to get the win in game one.

Valente Bellozo allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out one over four scoreless and Fabricio Reina allowed a run on two hits, walked four, and struck out two in his three innings.

Jose Alvarez went 2-4 with a pair of RBI singles. Jeury Castillo also went 2-4; he doubled and scored on Alvarez's RBI single in the 3rd.

Game 2: DSL Astros 2, DSL Athletics 1

L- Edwin Rojas (1-2)

DSL home runs: None.

Sebastian Grullón grounded into a force out that allowed Yimmi Cortabarria to score in the 7th. He moved into scoring position on an error and was allowed to score the winning run when he was interfered with while trying to round third. Franklin Pinto finished 3-4.

Ernesto Jaquez allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out six in four innings of work. Jaquez has allowed three hits in his last 20.2 innings pitched. Jose A. Hernandez allowed a run on three hits and struck out four in three innings.

Fresno home runs: A.J. Reed (19, solo in 6th), Kyle Tucker (14, 2-run in 7th)

The Grizzlies were really up against it early as they found themselves down 11-1 after the 2nd inning.

A.J. Reed put Fresno on the board with an RBI single in the 1st; he would also smack a solo homer in the 6th. The Grizzlies scored three in the 7th on an RBI double from Nick Tanielu and a two-run blast hit by Kyle Tucker. He, Reed, and Tanielu all finished with two hits on the night.

Trent Thornton had to bear the brunt of the early assault. The bullpen allowed just one run the rest of the way. Ralph Garza was first and he went 3.1 innings, allowing three hits, walking one, and striking out four. Dean Deetz was next; he allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out two. Reymin Guduan, Riley Ferrell, and Brendan McCurry all pitched one inning apiece. Guduan struck out the side in order in the 7th. Ferrell allowed a run on four hits and struck out one in the 8th, and McCurry worked around a hit to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out two.

Tonight, Rogelio Armenteros goes up against Scott Copeland in game three of this five-game set. First pitch is at 7:05 Pacific.

Corpus Christi 3, Arkansas 0

Well, this game started off with something that absolutely no one wanted to see: Forrest Whitley left the game in the first inning with what the Astros are calling "left oblique discomfort."

The Hooks are playing this series as the Raspas as part of MiLB's "Copa de la Diversión" campaign. If you're unfamiliar with the term, a raspa is a snow cone.

Whitley walked one and got two outs in the 1st, one via strikeout, before leaving. Ronel Blanco was summoned to make his Texas League debut and he absolutely shined in his four innings; he did not allow a hit, walked one, and struck out eight. Alex Winkelman completed the shutout as he allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out four over the final 4.1 innings.

Yordan Alvarez opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st. Ryne Birk added a sac fly in the 4th and Alvarez added another RBI base hit to his ledger in the 5th. Josh Rojas went 3-3 with a couple of doubles and scored on both of Alvarez's singles.

Brandon Bielak will make his first Texas League start in the rubber game of this series. He'll face Chase de Jong at 7:05.

Buies Creek 6, Myrtle Beach 1

W- Patrick Sandoval (1-0, 8-1 season)
L- Cory Abbott (1-4)

BC home runs: Abraham Toro (14, 2-run in 8th), Osvaldo Duarte (5, solo in 8th)

Patrick Sandoval turned in a gem in his first Carolina League start.

Sandoval allowed just one hit and struck out nine over five shutout frames. Abdiel Saldaña threw three innings and allowed the lone Pelicans run on five hits and struck out one. Yohan Ramirez threw a 1-2-3 9th in his Carolina League debut.

Abraham Toro ripped an RBI double in the 1st to open the scoring. Buies Creek got two more in the 2nd when Chuckie Robinson ripped an RBI ground-rule double and then scored on a single from Cody Bohanek. Toro scored on a double play in the 6th. He and Osvaldo Duarte capped off the evening by smacking back-to-back home runs in the 8th inning. Toro, Duarte, and Robinson all finished with two hits on the night.

Brady Rodgers will continue his rehab at 6:00 Eastern as he takes on Erich Uelmen.

Beloit 2, Quad Cities 1

Tough to win when you only record two hits as a team...

Miguelangel Sierra singled to lead off the bottom of the 9th and scored Quad Cities' lone run on a passed ball. The other hit belonged to Alfredo Angarita.

Chad Donato allowed five hits, walked two, and struck out six over five shutout innings. Willy Collado was the first man out of the Quad Cities bullpen and allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out three over two scoreless innings. Brendan Feldmann and Dariel Aquino both pitched an inning; Feldmann allowed an unearned run on two hits and struck out the side in the 8th and Aquino allowed a a solo homer in the 9th and walked one.

Parker Mushinski will take on Oliver Ortega in the first of a four-game series against the Burlington Bees. First pitch is at 6:35.

Tri-City 4, Vermont 2

The ValleyCats had three hits, but they scored in more innings than the Lake Monsters.

Bryan Abreu allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out a career-high nine over four scoreless innings. Shawn Dubin and Brett Daniels threw two innings apiece; Dubin allowed a run on a sac fly, a hit, and walked two. Daniels allowed a run on a homer and two other hits. Tim Hardy struck out one in a 1-2-3 9th to close it out.

Jeremy Peña doubled with one out in the 4th and scored the first run of the night thanks to a couple of wild pitches. Michael Wielansky walked to start the 5th, made his way to third on two more wild pitches, and scored on a sac fly from Alex Holderbach. Gilbeto Celestino smacked a ground-rule double to start the 6th and advanced to third when Peña flew out. Alex McKenna walked, but he got picked off first and was thrown out in a rundown. However, he held out long enough for Celestino to come home with another run. Celestino launched a solo homer in the 8th. He finished 2-3 and scored twice.

The finale of this six-game, away-and-home series will start at 7:00 Eastern.

DSL Astros 8, DSL Royals1 1

The Academy cruised to a victory on Thursday.

Jose Antonio Hernandez allowed three hits and walked one over four scoreless innings. Ernesto Jaquez tagged in to throw three hitless innings, walking one and striking out three. Cristofer Mezquita and Jeremy Molero pitched one inning apiece; Mezquita allowed a hit and struck out one in a scoreless 8th, and Molero allowed a run on two hits, walked two, and struck out two in the 9th.

Franklin Pinto had a nice day at the plate as he went 2-4 with a sac fly, scored twice, and stole three bases (5); one of the steals was of home. Rolando Espinosa finished 3-4 with an RBI triple; he got thrown out trying to turn it into an inside-the-park home run.

With the calendar turning from June to July, the top five Astros minor league teams are well-poised (with Corpus Christi and Quad Cities assured playoff berths as first-half winners) and the other three teams currently in first place. (We won't talk about the rookie level clubs who are struggling a bit to start their seasons.) Here are a few of the players who have helped contribute to the success of their teams in June. I have noted a few of the more outstanding accomplishments in red.

There aren't a ton of standouts for the Quad Cities team right now largely because most of the players who were instrumental in getting the River Bandits to a first half first place finish have now been promoted. Many on the current roster are new to the level, but I have no doubt that they will get up to speed quickly.

The Isotopes scored the last three runs of game one to come out on top.

Both Grizzlies runs in game one came in the 2nd inning. Tim Federowicz scored on an error following a Jon Kemmer single. Kemmer, who made it all the way to third, scored on a single from Jack Mayfield, who finished 2-3. Myles Straw also went 2-3 in the first game.

Trent Thornton turned in a bare minimum quality start, allowing seven hits (solo homer), walking two, and striking out two. Buddy Boshers loaded the bases in the 7th with a walk and a couple of hits but got himself out of the inning without suffering any damage. He struck out one.

Game 2: Fresno 2, Albuquerque 1

Fresno home runs: None.

The Grizzlies walked off with the win in game two to force a split in the twinbill.

Rogelio Armenteros went six innings and the one hit he allowed was a solo homer hit by Ryan McMahon. He walked two and struck out nine. Brendan McCurry worked around a hit to throw a scoreless 7th, striking out one.

Kyle Tucker doubled with one out in the 1st and scored on an error that allowed A.J. Reed to reach. He finished 2-4; his second hit was a walk-off RBI single in the 7th.

The Grizzlies have Sunday off. Josh James will start the first game in a four-game set in El Paso on Monday.

Corpus Christi 4, Frisco 3

Both teams had six hits in this game, but the Blue Ghosts had more in the column that matters most.

Stephen Wrenn hit a one-out infield single in the 1st, advanced to third on an error following a Randy César infield single, and scored the first run of the evening on a Yordan Alvarez groundout. That infield hit for César extended his hitting streak to 40 games. Corpus loaded the bases with two outs in the 2nd and got a couple of runs out of it thanks to a Ryne Birk RBI single and a steal of home from Aníbal Sierra. Alvarez smacked a solo homer in the 3rd inning.

Akeem Bostick went 4.1 innings and allowed two runs, one of which was an inherited runner that was charged to him, four hits, walked three, and struck out two. Alex Winkelman tagged in for 3.1 innings and allowed a run of his own on two hits and struck out three. Erasmo Pinales struck out three of the four Roughriders hitters he faced to get his third save of the season.

The Blue Ghosts will look to sweep the series as they send Forrest Whitley to the mound. He'll face Pedro Payano at 6:05.

Buies Creek 7, Carolina 3

The Carolina Stros provided some fireworks on Saturday as they sent four balls out of the park. The team that has won in each game of this series has scored seven runs in the games they've won.

Abdiel Saldaña went five innings and allowed three runs on six hits, walked two, and struck out a career-high nine batters. Ronel Blanco allowed two hits, walked one, and fanned four in three scoreless innings of work, and Gabriel Valdez worked around a walk to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out one.

Buies Creek loaded the bases with one out in the 2nd inning but all they could get out of it was a Jake Meyers sac fly. J.J. Matijevic and Abraham Toro launched homers to start the 3rd. Ronnie Dawson followed with a single... but he got thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. Jake Adams singled and lumbered home on a triple from Corey Julks. Jonathan Arauz led off the 4th with a homer and Julks smacked a solo homer in the 5th. The four home run hitters along with Adams all finished with two hits on the evening.

Brandon Bailey will take on Cam Roegner in the series finale. First pitch is at 2:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 6, Beloit 2

The Banditos entered the win column for the first time in the second half.

From looking at Patrick Sandoval's numbers for the season, you probably would not have guessed that he had an outing in which he allowed ten runs. On Saturday, he allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out five over seven shutout innings. Tanner Duncan threw a scoreless 8th and got two outs in the 9th, but that final out proved to be just out of his reach. In 1.2 innings, Duncan allowed a couple of unearned runs, a triple, walked three, and struck out four. Brendan Feldmann came on and got that final out to secure the win.

Miguelangel Sierra opened the scoring by smacking a solo homer in the 1st. Chandler Taylor whacked his first home run as a professional in the 2nd, driving in two in the process. Alfredo Angarita hit an RBI single in the 4th, although he was thrown out at second to end the inning. Taylor added an RBI double to his ledger in the 8th and scored on Angarita's second RBI base hit of the evening. Angarita and Taylor finished with three hits apiece, while Sierra and Scott Schreiber had two each.

Enoli Paredes will take on Jared Poche in the series finale. First pitch is at 5:15.

Tri-City 8, Lowell 2

TC home runs: Seth Beer 2 (3; 2-run in 1st, 2-run in 6th)

Beer bombs were had by all. It was only fitting that the ValleyCats were having "WWE Night" at the ballpark.

Seth Beer smacked his first two-run homer of the night to open the scoring in the 1st. Tri-City got two more in the opening frame on an RBI single from Ramiro Rodriguez and when Michael Wielansky scored on a double play. Rodriguez hit another RBI single in the 3rd and Beer sent his second two-run homer out of the park in the 6th inning. Rodriguez singled to lead off the 7th. He then stole second, advanced to third on a balk, and scored the final run of the evening when Carlos Machado grounded into a force out.

Beer and Rodriguez both finished with three hits. Both of Enmanuel Valdez's hits in this game were doubles. Of the 11 hits that Valdez recorded this season, nine have gone for extra bases. Wielansky went 0-2, but he drew three walks and scored twice.

The two runs that Nivaldo Rodriguez allowed in his three innings came on a home run. Nivaldo also allowed two other hits and struck out three. Riley Cabral worked around a walk to throw a scoreless 4th, striking out one. Bryan Abreu walked three and struck out five over three scoreless, and Austin Hansen threw two perfect innings to close it out, striking out two.

Tri-City will make the journey to Staten Island to take on the Yankees. Luis Garcia will get the start in game one, which kicks off at 4:00 Eastern.

GCL Mets 12, GCL Astros 3 in 5.1 innings

This game was called with one out in the 6th due to rain.

Freudis Nova's three-run homer in the 5th was the Palm Beach Stros' only scoring play. César Cortez went 2-3 in the shortened game.

Julio Robaina's second career appearance... did not go well. Neither did Layne Henderson's pro debut. Daniel Bello restored a little order to the game with four solid innings, allowing a run on five htis, walking one, and striking out seven.

DSL Astros 4, DSL Athletics 2 in 6 innings

DSL home runs: Victor Mascai (3, 2-run in 4th)

This game was also called due to rain. The Academy only had two hits, but they scored more, which last I checked, determines the winner of a baseball game.

Javier Bermudez scored on a wild pitch and Yimmi Cortabarria scored on a Ricardo Toro groundout in the 2nd, and Victor Mascai smacked a two-run homer in the 4th.

Jojanse Torres allowed a run on four hits and struck out two in two innings and Ernesto Jaquez threw four perfect innings, striking out six.

Fresno home runs: A.J. Reed (17, solo in 2nd)

Fresno did business as the Tacos on the road for the second time since they introduced the promotion as New Orleans played this game as the Crawdaddys in order to keep the food vs. food theme consistent.

A.J. Reed opened the scoring with a home run to lead off the 2nd inning. This would be the only scoring play of the game until Jack Mayfield hit an RBI single in the 7th. After the Crawdaddys got the run back in the bottom of the 7th, the Tacos loaded the bases in the 8th and Kyle Tucker came through with a double to bring everyone in. Tucker finished 3-5 on the night, while Reed and Mayfield had two hits apiece.

Mike Hauschild allowed seven hits, walked two, and struck out four over five shutout innings. Chris Nunn worked around a walk to throw a scoreless 6th. Brendan McCurry allowed a run on a groundout, a triple, and struck out three in two innings. James Hoyt worked around a hit to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out one.

Trent Thornton will take on Adrian Sampson in the first game of a three-game series in Round Rock, weather permitting. First pitch is at 6:05.

Corpus Christi 6, Midland 2

The Hooks secured a series win in West Texas and remained within striking distance of San Antonio as the race for the Texas League South Division first-half crown winds down. The Missions lost in Frisco, so Corpus is now one game behind.

Corbin Martin went 5.2 innings and had a run charged to him after he left the game. He allowed four hits, walked one, and struck out three. Justin Ferrell was the first man out of the bullpen and allowed a run of his own on two hits, walked one, and struck out two in 2.1 innings. Alex Winkelman struck out one in a 1-2-3 9th inning to close it out.

Lorenzo Quintana led off with a single in the 3rd and scored the first run of the evening on a Taylor Jones groundout. Stephen Wrenn tripled with one out in the 4th and came home on a single from Alex De Goti. Corpus opened things up a bit with four runs in the 5th as they got a pair of RBI singles from Jamie Ritchie and Wrenn and a two-run double from De Goti, who finished 3-4 on the night. Wrenn, Ritchie, and Myles Straw all had two hits in the game.

Jorge Alcala will get the start as the Hooks look to leave with a sweep. He'll face Parker Dunshee at 7:00.

Potomac 4, Buies Creek 0

Tyler Mapes went the distance to blank the Carolina Stros, who failed to score for the second consecutive game.

Buies Creek got five hits, one of which was a double from Abraham Toro. No one in the lineup recorded a multi-hit game.

Carson LaRue turned in a bare minimum quality start, allowing five hits (solo homer), walking one, and striking out two. Brandon Bielak pitched the last two innings and allowed a run on three hits, walked two, and struck out three.

Buies Creek will look to get on the board, both in a game and in this series, as Gabriel Valdez takes on Matt Crownover at 6:35 Eastern.

Quad Cities 3, Burlington 0

Two more games to go in the Midwest League first half. Clinton and Peoria both lost, which means that this Quad Cities win gives them sole possession of first place in the Western division.

On the mound, three pitchers joined forces to throw a shutout. Patrick Sandoval allowed three hits and struck out seven in four innings. Peter Solomon tagged in to throw three innings, allowing a hit and striking out four. Humberto Castellanos allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out one in two innings of work to complete the shutout.

Colton Shaver opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st inning. The Banditos got two more in the 6th as Miguelangel Sierra singled to lead things off and scampered home on a triple from Bryan de la Cruz. One batter later, Chandler Taylor drove in his first run as a pro on a fielder's choice. De La Cruz went 2-4 on the night, while Sierra scored twice.

Jairo Solis will face Oliver Ortega in game two of this series. First pitch is at 6:35.

Welcome to professional baseball, Seth Beer! Tri-City started off a new season with a bang as they launched three home runs and dominated the Lake Monsters in all facets of the game.

Luis Encarnación drove in the first two runs of the new ValleyCats season with a two-run home run in the opening frame. He added a two-run double to his ledger in the 3rd inning. Kyle Davis led off the 4th with a homer, and after Jeremy Peña led off the 5th with a double, Seth Beer followed with his first professional home run. TC salted this one away with four more runs in the 6th inning; Peña hit an RBI single, while Encarnación and Davis both drew bases-loaded walks. Encarnación ended up scoring the final Tri-City run on a wild pitch. Peña (2B, RBI, 2 R), Beer (2B, 2-R HR, 3 R), and Encarnación (2B, 2-R HR, 5 RBI, 2 R) all finished with two hits on the evening. Encarnación finished last year with 7 RBI in 25 games last season; he nearly matched that offensive production in one night.

Chad Donato turned in a fine start to begin his 2018 season; in six innings, he allowed an unearned run on three hits, walked one, and struck out six. Luis Garcia was the first man out of the Tri-City bullpen and allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out four over 1.2 scoreless innings. Felipe Tejada allowed a hit and struck out three over the final 1.1 innings.

Game two of this series will start at 7:00 Eastern.

Well... the rough start continues for the Academy. In this latest loss, they couldn't hold a 4-1 lead.

Christian Mejias and Jairo Lopez both threw three innings with similar degrees of success. Mejias allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out two in a scoreless outing, while Lopez allowed an unearned run on two hits and struck out one. Diosmerky Taveras allowed two runs on a wild pitch and a single, walked three, and got both of the outs he recorded in the 7th via the strikeout. Jeremy Molero allowed a hit and struck out two in 1.1 innings. Alex Blanco got two outs in the 9th, but he couldn't get that last out in order to preserve a 4-4 tie. He allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits; the winning run scored when he uncorked a wild pitch.

Rolando Espinosa finished 2-4 with a couple of doubles and scored twice. He was driven in both times by Victor Mascai, who hit a sac fly in the 1st and a single in the 4th. Carlos Hurtado doubled and scored on a wild pitch in the 2nd, and Yimmi Cortabarria scored on a double play in the 7th.

Oklahoma City 4, Fresno 2

Fresno home runs: Tyler White (12, solo in 1st), A.J. Reed (13, solo in 6th)

The Dodgers got two in the 7th to take the lead and one more in the 9th for insurance as they evened up the series

The two solo home runs you see above represented all the scoring that Fresno did on Saturday. A.J. Reed finished 3-4, while Tyler White and J.D. Davis both went 2-4.

Trent Thornton went seven innings, allowing three runs on eight hits (two-run homer), walking one, and striking out five. Buddy Boshers pitched the last two innings and allowed a run on two hits, walked one, and struck out one.

Rogelio Armenteros will face Guillermo Moscoso in game three of this series. First pitch is at 5:05 Pacific.

San Antonio 9, Corpus Christi 4

CC home runs: None.

The Hooks fell behind 7-0 after the 4th. They attempted to rally back but the Missions salted this one away with a couple of insurance runs in the top of the 9th.

Randy César hit a one-out double in the 6th to extend his hitting streak to 31 games. He advanced to third on a Ryne Birk single and scored Corpus Christi's first run when Birk was forced out at second. Stephen Wrenn, who hit into that force out, stole second and scored on a Jamie Ritchie single. Ritchie came home on a single from Alex De Goti. Wrenn led off the 8th with a double and Ritchie took his place at second after smacking a double of his own. Ritchie went 3-4 on the night. Josh Rojas finished 2-5.

Yoanys Quiala went three innings and allowed five runs on five hits (solo and two-run homers), walked three, and struck out three. Erasmo Pinales was the first man out of the Hooks bullpen and he allowed two runs on two hits, walked two, and struck out five in his two innings. Chris Nunn was the only Corpus pitcher to turn in a scoreless outing as he allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out three in three innings. Kit Scheetz allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and struck out one in the 9th.

Jorge Alcala will make his first Texas League start in game two of this series. He'll take on former Astros draft pick Jacob Nix at 6:05.

Buies Creek 6, Down East 1

BC home runs: Jake Adams 2 (2, 10 season; 2-run in 5th, 2-run in 8th)

Jake Adams opened up his account in the Carolina League and spurred the Carolina Stros to a series win in the latest iteration of the Lone Star Series in North Carolina.

Both of Adams' hits in this game left the yard and both of them resulted in two runs. He opened the scoring in the 5th with his first two-run blast. Ronnie Dawson ripped an RBI double in the 6th and scored on a Troy Sieber single. Adams launched his second two-run homer of the evening in the 8th inning to bring in the last two Buies Creek runs. He and Luis Payano both finished 2-4; Dawson scored three times.

Brandon Bielak allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out five over five shutout innings. The Wood Ducks spoiled the shutout with a homer off Adam Bleday in the bottom of the 8th, which was the only hit that he allowed in his 2.1 innings of work. Bleday also walked one and struck out four. Robert Corniel struck out one over 1.2 perfect innings to secure the win.

The Carolina Stros will look for the sweep at 4:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 7, Peoria 5

QC home runs: Bryan de la Cruz (2, 2-run in 5th), Cody Bohanek (3, 2-run in 8th)

The Banditos were on their way to a shutout win... until the Chiefs woke up and made the result of this game a little less certain. Fortunately, Quad Cities found a way to put out the fire and secured the win.

Patrick Sandoval allowed just three hits and struck out seven over five shutout innings. César Rosado cruised through two innings but the wheels fell off for him in the 8th inning. In 2.1 innings, Rosado allowed five runs (one inherited runner charged to him) on five hits, walked two, and struck out three. Willy Collado did allow one of the two runners he inherited from Rosado to score on a sac fly, but he prevented Peoria from inflicting any further damage. He went 1.2 innings, walking one and striking out two.

Bryan de la Cruz led off the 4th with a single and he scored the first run of the evening on an Adrian Tovalin double. Tovalin eventually scored on a single from Cody Bohanek. De La Cruz whacked a two-run homer in the 5th. Jonathan Lacroix singled with one out in the 8th, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on a single from Mike Papierski, which prompted Peoria to make a pitching change. Bryan Dobzanski came on for the Chiefs and Bohanek greeted him with a two-run home run.

Everyone in the Quad Cities lineup recorded a hit; de la Cruz had three, while Bohanek finished with two.

Peter Solomon will take on Evan Guillory in game three of this series. First pitch is at 2:00.

DSL Braves 3, DSL Astros 1

DSL home runs: None.

There's something about the 2nd inning for the Academy. I think this is like the third time in the last five or six days that they've lost because the other team had a big 2nd inning.

Diosmerky Taveras, Christian Mejias, and Jairo Lopez all pitched three innings. Taveras got the start and allowed three runs on three hits, walked three, and struck out two. Mejias walked one and struck out four, while Lopez allowed a hit and struck out five.

Junior Marte ripped an RBI double in the 4th to bring in the DSL team's only run. Jose Alvarez finished 3-3 on the day.

The Academy has Sunday off.
