Happy Birthday - 10/7

Happy Birthday to ~

RHP Mike Foltynewicz (23)
Drafted in the first round in 2010 out of high school in Illinois, Foltynewicz pitched in 21 games (18 starts) in Oklahoma City with a 5.08 ERA and a 1.461 WHIP before getting making his major league debut on August 2nd. In 16 bullpen appearances for the Astros, Folty had a 5.30 ERA and a 1.607 WHIP.

Happy Birthday wishes also go to Jason Schwartz, Lancaster JetHawks broadcaster and friend of WTHB.

Two former Astros mark the day as well ~

LHP Floyd Bluford "Butch" Henry (46)
If my name was Floyd Bluford, I'd go by Butch too! Originally drafted by the Reds in the 15th round in 1987, Henry came to Houston in September 1990 as a part of the Bill Doran trade with the Reds. Two years later, he was drafted from Houston by the Rockies in the 1992 expansion draft. In 28 starts in 1992, he went 6-9 with a 4.02 ERA and a 1.364 WHIP.

Manager Grady Hatton (died April 11, 2013 at age 90)
Hatton managed the Astros in 1966, 1967 and part of 1968, with a record of 164-221.

Happy Birthday - 10/7

Happy Birthday to ~

RHP Mike Foltynewicz (22)
Drafted in the first round in 2010 out of high school in Illinois, Foltynewicz started his season at Lancaster where he was 1-0 with a 3.81 ERA and a 1.731 WHIP in seven games (five starts) before his promotion to Corpus Christi. Folty was 5-3 with a 2.87 ERA and a 1.229 WHIP in 23 games (16 starts) for the Hooks.

Happy Birthday wishes also go to Jason Schwartz, Lancaster JetHawks broadcaster and friend of WTHB.

Happy Birthday - 10/7

RHP Mike Foltynewicz (21)
Folty was drafted in the first round in 2010 out of high school in Illinois. After a somewhat uneven season at Lexington in 2011, he repeated the level and this time he dominated. His 14-4 record with a 3.14 ERA and a 1.362 WHIP in 27 starts (152 innings) led to his being named as the minor league pitcher of the year for the Astros organization as well as the South Atlantic League's most outstanding pitcher. He was also named a mid-season and post-season All-Star for the league.

C Ben Heath (24)
This Virginia native was also drafted in 2010, in the fifth round out of Penn State. He spent the bulk of his season at Lancaster before getting called up to Corpus in late July. He played in only nine games with the Hooks before his season was derailed by injury. His combined batting line was .290/.335/.411. Heath also boasted a 29% caught stealing percentage, his best season thus far in that category.

RHP Yoiner Angulo (21)
Signed as a NDFA out of Columbia, Yoiner only pitched in two games for the DSL Astros at the end of this season, his second in the system. Since he last pitched in May of last season, I am assuming he was coming back from an injury. In two innings, he gave up two hits and one run with no walks and no strikeouts.

Happy Birthday - 10/7

RHP Mike Foltynewicz (20)
Folty was drafted in the 1st round in 2010 out of high school in Illinois.  His second season in the organization, spent with the Lexington team, started out rough and ended up rough.  He went 5-11 for the season with a 4.97 ERA and a 1.493 WHIP.  Looking at May through July, however, he went 5-4 with a 3.75 ERA.  He pitched 134 innings this season as compared to 44.2 in 2010.   With his increase in innings pitched and his sustained success through the middle of the season, Folty has established something solid on which to build.

C Ben Heath (23)
This Virginia native was also drafted in 2010, in the 5th round out of Penn State.  His offense fell off slightly in his second season in which he posted a .252/.310/.408/.718 line between Lancaster and Lexington, but he still demonstrated some pop in his bat with 22 doubles and 10 homeruns.

RHP Yoiner Angulo (20)
Signed as a NDFA out of Columbia, Yoiner only pitched in one game for the DSL Astros in this his first season.  He went 1.2 innings on May 29th, giving up no hits, one walk, two strikeouts and no earned runs.
