PCL Championship Series: Sacramento 4, Round Rock 2

Sacramento leads series 2-0.

Well, the E-Train is up against it now. Sacramento scored three in the bottom of the 6th to take control after Round Rock had tied it in the top half.

Brandon Bielak allowed a run on four hits, walked two, and struck out three in five innings of work. Brendan McCurry got the 6th and struck out the side... but he also allowed three runs on four hits, one of which was a solo homer. Riley Ferrell got the last two innings and allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out three.

Nick Tanielu ripped an RBI double in the 6th and Ronnie Dawson launched a solo homer in the 7th; he's homered in both games of this series.

After a day off, the series will resume in Round Rock on Friday. Rogelio Armenteros is listed as the starter for game three and he'll face Carlos Navas.

Mills Cup: Wilmington 5, Fayetteville 4

Series tied 1-1.

Fayetteville home runs: Scott Manea (1, solo in 2nd)

The Blue Rocks scored three in the bottom of the 7th to take the lead and even up the series.

Austin Hansen and Leovanny Rodriguez both threw three innings and they both allowed a run on two hits. Hansen's run was earned because it came on a solo homer and he also walked five while striking out six. Leovanny's run came on an RBI single and was unearned; he also walked one.

Riley Cabral came on for the 7th. He got two outs via the strikeout and the Blue Rocks' three runs in the inning were all unearned; one of them was an inherited runner that was charged to him. Wilmington got a two-run single with two outs off of him, because of course they did. Jacob Billingsley got the final out of the 7th, but not before he allowed the go-ahead RBI single. He got the 8th and overall, he allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out one in 1.1 innings.

Chandler Taylor lashed an RBI double in the 1st to open the scoring. Scott Manea whacked a solo homer in the 2nd, Ruben Castro grounded into a force out to score Taylor in the 4th, and Taylor tripled to lead off the 6th and scored on Michael Papierski's single. Taylor and Cal Stevenson finished with two hits apiece.

The Mills Cup Series now heads south to Fayetteville. Nivaldo Rodriguez will get the call for game three and he'll take on Kris Bubic at 6:00 Eastern.

Round Rock 4, San Antonio 3

Well, things got a bit too close for comfort at the end as the Missions very nearly erased a 4-0 deficit in the top of the 9th. The Express held on, however, and they increased their lead over San Antonio to three games.

Kent Emanuel turned in an absolute gem as he allowed just one hit and struck out six over eight shutout innings. Ronel Blanco got one out in the 9th with a strikeout but he made a mess of things, allowing three runs (two inherited runners charged to him) on three hits and walking one. Cy Sneed managed to get the final two outs of the game but he also allowed two of Blanco's runners to score on a sac fly and a single. Fortunately, he pulled himself together and got that last out by striking out Nate Orf.

Round Rock opened the scoring with three in the 3rd as Chas McCormick hit a two-run single and he eventually scored on Jack Mayfield's single. Mayfield hit another RBI single in the 5th. He and Taylor Jones both finished 2-4 on the night.

Ryan Hartman will get the start in game three and he'll face Aaron Wilkerson at 7:05.

Arkansas 3, Corpus Christi 2

The Hooks were kept off the board for eight innings before they came to life in the final inning. Unfortunately, their comeback bid fell short. With Midland and Frisco winning, their elimination number is now down to three.

Chuckie Robinson smashed a two-run triple with two outs in the 9th but unfortunately, he was left at third to end the game after Aníbal Sierra struck out. Robinson went 2-4 and was the only player on either side to finish with a multi-hit game.

Enoli Paredes went 2.1 innings and allowed three runs (one inherited runner charged to him), a two-run single, walked three, and struck out three. The bullpen turned in 6.2 scoreless innings, although Colin McKee allowed the runner that he inherited from Paredes to score. McKee allowed an RBI single, walked one, and struck out five in 2.2 innings. Andre Scrubb and Carlos Sanabria both threw two scoreless innings; Scrubb allowed three hits and struck out one and Sanabria allowed a hit and struck out three.

Forrest Whitley will face Ljay Newsome in game three. First pitch is at 6:15.

Fayetteville 10, Carolina 1

Fayetteville home runs: Chandler Taylor (13, 2-run in 3rd)

The Woodpeckers dominated the Mudcats in all facets of the game as they won their fourth in a row. They're currently a half-game ahead of Down East, who already won the first half, and 3.5 ahead of third-place Myrtle Beach.

Everyone in the lineup had a hit except for Cal Stevenson, who still managed to draw a walk and score a run. Seven of the nine players in Fayetteville's lineup drove in a run, including Chandler Taylor, who launched a two-run homer for the second straight game. Scott Manea hit an RBI single in the 2nd and added an RBI double to his ledger in the 4th. Ross Adolph also drove in two with a double in a four-run 4th. Scott Schreiber also ripped an RBI double in the 4th. Jeremy Peña hit an RBI single in the 8th. Taylor scored another run in the 9th on a Michael Papierski groundout and Miguelangel Sierra capped off the evening with an RBI double.

David Hensley led the way in the hits department, finishing 3-5 and scoring a couple of runs. Peña, Manea, Sierra, and Schreiber all finished with two hits on the night.

Shawn Dubin turned in seven dominant innings in which he allowed just three hits, walked one, and struck out ten. The Mudcats spoiled the shutout in the 8th with a solo homer off César Rosado, who struck out two in the inning. Humberto Castellanos worked around a hit to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out two.

Nivaldo Rodriguez will take the mound for game three of this series. He'll face Scott Sunitsch at 7:00 Eastern.

Kane County 3, Quad Cities 2

The Cougars scored all three of their runs in the final two innings to snatch this game from the Banditos' grasp.

José Alberto Rivera allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out a career-high nine over five shutout innings. Valente Bellozo suffered his first loss of the season after the Cougars came back on him; he allowed three runs on five hits, walked two, and struck out two in four innings of work.

Trey Dawson's two-run double in the 4th represented Quad Cities' only scoring play of the night. Wilyer Abreu went 2-4 with a double and scored one of the runs on Dawson's double.

Quad Cities will hit the road for the final time in the 2019 regular season as they begin a three-game series in Cedar Rapids at 6:35. Brett Daniels will start game one and he will be opposed by former Rice Owl Matt Canterino.

Tri-City 4, Staten Island 0

TC home runs: Juan Paulino (2, 2-run in 1st), Preston Pavlica (3, solo in 3rd)

The ValleyCats earned a split as four pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout.

Angel Macuare started things off by allowing a hit, walking three, and striking out five in the first two innings. Brayan De Paula tagged in for three and allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out two. Blair Henley and Cole McDonald completed the shutout with two innings apiece; Henley struck out three and McDonald walked one and struck out three. Henley's lone baserunner reached because he plunked him.

Nate Perry opened the scoring in the 1st by ripping an RBI double and Juan Paulino followed by smacking a two-run homer. Preston Pavlica drove in the final run of the game, which was himself, by leading off the 3rd with a homer.

Tri-City will conclude the road portion of its schedule with three in Lowell starting tonight at 7:05 Eastern. Kyle Serrano will take on Noah Song in game one.

32 runs, 38 hits, eight home runs... just another night in Triple-A.

Everyone in Round Rock's lineup recorded at least one hit. Alex De Goti hit for the cycle; he and Kyle Tucker launched two home runs. The E-Train scored in every inning.

José Urquidy didn't have much fun on the mound but fortunately, the offense and the bullpen picked him up. Brendan McCurry was the first man out of the Express bullpen and he walked three and struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings. Brad Peacock threw a 1-2-3 7th inning and Ralph Garza Jr. allowed a solo homer and struck out three over the final two innings.

Kent Emanuel will take on Jerry Keel in game two of this series. First pitch is at 7:05 Mountain.

Frisco 5, Corpus Christi 2

CC home runs: Osvaldo Duarte (12, solo in 1st)

The Hooks were held to just two hits as they dropped this series in the Metroplex.

Osvaldo Duarte scored both of Corpus Christi's runs in this game; he whacked a solo homer in the 1st and scored on an error that allowed Colton Shaver to reach in the 6th inning.

Brett Adcock went 1.2 innings and allowed five runs on four hits (solo homer), walked two, and struck out three. Carlos Sanabria was the first man out of the Corpus bullpen and he struck out four in 2.1 innings; one of his strikeout victims struck out on a ball in the dirt and managed to reach base safely. Colin McKee and Andre Scrubb pitched two scoreless innings apiece; McKee walked two and struck out two and Scrubb walked one and struck out three.

Brandon Bailey gets the start for Corpus in the opener of a four-game series in Midland. He'll face Kyle Friedrichs at 7:00.

Fayetteville 13, Wilmington 5

Fayetteville home runs: Miguelangel Sierra (10, 2-run in 2nd)

The Woodpeckers blew this game wide open with nine runs in the 8th. Wilmington responded with three runs in the 9th but the 11-run cushion proved to be comfortable enough.

Luis Garcia turned in a fine outing as he allowed just two hits, walked three, and struck out ten over six shutout innings; the ten punchouts tie a career-high. Joey Gonzalez went two innings and he allowed two runs on three hits, walked one, and struck out three. Riley Cabral got the 9th and allowed two hits, one of which was a three-run homer, walked one, and struck out the side.

Miguelangel Sierra opened the scoring in the 2nd by whacking a two-run homer. Fayetteville got two more in the 3rd on a pair of RBI singles from Michael Papierski and Scott Manea. The real fun began in the 8th.

Cal Stevenson and Papierski walked to lead off the inning and then Fayetteville got three consecutive RBI singles from Ross Adolph, Chandler Taylor, and Manea. Sierra added an RBI double to his ledger and then David Hensley and Scott Schreiber followed with RBI singles. Hensley and Schreiber both advanced on a passed ball and Stevenson drew another walk to load the bases for Papierski, who hit an RBI single. Schreiber scored when Adolph beat a double play attempt and Stevenson capped off the inning by scoring on a wild pitch.

Stevenson was the only player in the Woodpeckers' lineup to go hitless, but he did score twice in the 8th. In fact, everyone in the lineup scored a run. Manea finished 3-4 on the night while Sierra and Schreiber both finished 2-4 with two runs scored.

J.P. France will go up against Kris Bubic in the series finale. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 4, Clinton 3

QC home runs: Wilyer Abreu (2, 3-run in 2nd)

The Banditos, doing business as the Quad Cities Treasure Hunters on Tuesday, staved off a comeback attempt from the LumberKings to take the opener of this series.

Wilyer Abreu launched a three-run homer in the 2nd to open the scoring and Oscar Campos ripped an RBI double in the 4th. Campos finished 2-3 on the night.

Felipe Tejada walked one and struck out three over three scoreless innings. Luis de Paula was the first man out of the Quad Cities bullpen and he allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out four in two scoreless innings. Lupe Chavez got the last four innings and he allowed three runs on five hits, walked two, and struck out six.

The Banditos and LumberKings will continue their series at 6:35 as Jonathan Bermúdez takes on Remey Reed.

Tri-City 3, Lowell 2

L- Kris Jackson (2-3)

TC home runs: None.

The Spinners scored twice in the 8th to take the lead... only for the ValleyCats to walk off with the win in the bottom of the 9th. That's now six straight victories for Tri-City.

Peyton Battenfield and Derek West started things off with three scoreless innings apiece. Battenfield allowed one hit, walked one, and struck out three; West also allowed a hit and walked one and also struck out five. Hunter Brown tagged in for two innings and he allowed two runs on three hits while striking out three. Shea Barry allowed a hit in a scoreless 9th.

Yeuris Ramirez reached on an error in the 7th which allowed C.J. Stubbs to score the game's first run. Nate Perry drew a walk with one out in the 9th and Juan Ramirez came on to pinch-run for him. Juan advanced to second on a wild pitch and Stubbs joined him on the bases after drawing a walk. Luis Santana grounded into a force out and just narrowly beat a game-ending double play. Yeuris tied the game with an RBI single and Santana scored the winning run on a wild pitch.

Tri-City will now start a new series with Hudson Valley and they'll kick it off with a doubleheader starting at 5:05 Eastern. This is to make up a game that was originally scheduled for July 6.

DSL Royals1 6, DSL Astros 0

Tough afternoon for the Dominican 'Stros as the Royals put the clamps on them.

The only hits they mustered up were singles from Omar Díaz, Ricardo Balogh, and Ayendy Ortiz.

Danny Subero pitched 1.1 innings and allowed three runs on three hits, walked four, and struck out one. Luis Vega was the first man out of the DSLStros' bullpen and he allowed a hit and struck out three over 2.1 scoreless innings. Miguel Padilla allowed an RBI triple, walked two, and struck out one in 1.1 innings. Fabricio Reina got the last four innings and he allowed two unearned runs on four hits, walked three, and struck out one.

Game 1: Oklahoma City 1, Round Rock 0

There was one run in the first game of this doubleheader and unfortunately, it belonged to the Dodgers.

Ryan Hartman pitched well but since he didn't get any run support, he had to take the loss. He allowed a run on four hits, walked two, and struck out seven in five innings of work. Reymin Guduan worked around a walk to throw a scoreless 6th, striking out one.

Josh Rojas and Nick Tanielu singled. That was it for the E-Train on offense in game one.

Game 2: Oklahoma City 4, Round Rock 3

The Express scored in more innings than the Dodgers, but two two-run innings > three one-run innings.

Josh Rojas walked to lead off game two and he scored the first run of game two on a passed ball. Jack Mayfield hit an infield single in the 3rd and Derek Fisher ended up scoring on the ensuing error. Kyle Tucker added an RBI single in the 6th but unfortunately, he was one of the casualties of a pop fly that turned into a double play????? Nick Tanielu went 2-3 with a double.

Carson LaRue threw a six-inning complete game, allowing four runs on five hits, one of which was a two-run home run, walking one, and striking out five.

Brandon Bielak will be on the mound for game four of this series. He'll face Rob Zastryzny at 7:05.

Midland 3, Corpus Christi 1

Enoli Paredes was absolutely filthy but the RockHounds managed to unlock the Hooks bullpen.

Paredes walked two, hit a batter, and struck out a dozen over six shutout innings. The 12 strikeouts represent a new career high for Paredes. Willy Collado came on for the 7th but the first three men reached against him and he only recorded one out. In all, Collado allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits. Tommy DeJuneas was called upon to get Collado out of a bases-loaded predicament, which he did so successfully. DeJuneas ultimately went 2.1 innings and allowed an unearned run, a single, walked two, and struck out two. The run was an inherited runner that scored. Carlos Sanabria got the last out of the 9th but also allowed an RBI single that allowed the runner he inherited from DeJuneas to score.

Granden Goetzman's sac fly in the 7th was Corpus Christi's only scoring play of the night. Abraham Toro went 2-4 with a triple and scored on that sac fly.

Chad Donato is up to make his first Texas League start. He'll go against Kyle Friedrichs at 7:15.

Fayetteville 3, Winston-Salem 1

The difference in this game was Fayetteville putting up the only crooked number of the night in the 6th. After dropping eight of nine, the Woodpeckers have taken the first two in this series against the Dash.

Scott Manea broke the 0-0 tie with a two-run single in the 6th inning. Ross Adolph, making his Carolina League debut, singled to lead off the 9th and scored a crucial insurance run on a wild pitch. Manea finished 4-4 on the night. Adolph and Jeremy Peña both went 2-4 and scored a run.

Three Fayetteville pitchers combined on a two-hitter. Jojanse Torres started things off with a fine outing as he allowed an unearned run on two hits, walked three, and struck out seven over six innings. The run scored on an error. César Rosado was the first man out of the Fayetteville bullpen and he walked one and struck out four in 2.1 innings. Jacob Billingsley worked around a walk to get the final two outs of the night.

J.P. France takes on Konnor Pilkington as the Woodpeckers look for the sweep. First pitch is at 6:00 Eastern.

Beloit 3, Quad Cities 2

One swing of the bat swung this game in the Snappers' favor. The Banditos outhit the Snappers 9-4, but unfortunately, lost in the column that counts.

R.J. Freure went five innings and he allowed two hits, one of which was a three-run home run that put Beloit in front, walked three, and struck out two. Brett Daniels allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out five over the final four innings.

Both of the Banditos' runs in this game came in the 2nd inning. Carlos Machado hit into a fielder's choice that allowed César Salazar to score and then he ended up scoring on a single from Alex Holderbach. David Hensley finished 3-4 and stole a base, his eighth of the season. Holderbach went 2-4.

Matt Ruppenthal will start the first game of a three-game series with Cedar Rapids tonight at 6:35. He will be opposed by Andrew Cabezas.

Hudson Valley 4, Tri-City 3

The ValleyCats also outhit their opposition but lost as the Renegades managed to score three times in the 1st without getting a hit. Tri-City got a rally started in the 8th but it ultimately fell short.

Kyle Serrano didn't make it out of the first inning. He allowed three runs (two earned, two inherited runners charged to him), walked three, and both of the outs he recorded came via the strikeout. Manny Ramirez was the first man out of the Tri-City bullpen and he allowed a run of his own on three hits, walked one, and struck out five in 4.1 innings. Franny Cobos got the last three innings and he allowed one hit while striking out five.

The ValleyCats loaded the bases in the 7th but couldn't score. However, they managed to get three runs in the top of the 8th thanks to an RBI single from Juan Paulino and a pair of RBI groundouts from Bryan Arias and E.P. Reese. Joe Perez finished 3-4 on the night and Nathan Perry finished 2-4.

Blair Henley will make his first start for the ValleyCats tonight at 6:05 Eastern.

Game 1: GCL Astros 6, GCL Nationals 5

The Nationals tied game one at 5 with a run in the 5th but the Astros got that run back in the 6th to re-take the lead.

Abdiel Saldaña made his season debut and he threw two scoreless innings, allowing a hit, walking two, and striking out one. Fredy Medina got the 3rd and the Nationals got to him for four runs (three earned). He allowed a hit, walked two, and struck out one. Dean Deetz and Jervic Chavez pitched two innings apiece. Deetz allowed a run on two hits and fanned four while Chavez allowed a hit and struck out three.

The Palm Beach 'Stros got two in the 1st as Sean Mendoza scored on a wild pitch and Victor Mascai hit an RBI single. In the 4th, Yeuris Ramírez launched a two-run homer and then Abraham Castillo followed by whacking one of his own. Franklin Pinto put them back in front with a solo blast in the 6th. For Castillo and Pinto, those were the first home runs of their pro careers.

The Palm Beach 'Stros earned the doubleheader sweep on the strength of three runs in the 3rd.

Yefri Carrillo reached on a fielder's choice in the 2nd and an error on the play allowed Nerio Rodríguez to score. They turned a bases-loaded situation in the 3rd into three runs. Well, two of them came with the bases loaded. Nerio scored on another error that allowed Adonis Giron to reach. Carrillo walked to load the bases for Gerry Castillo, who walked in Yorbin Ceuta. Giron, who finished 2-4, scored on a passed ball.

Julio Robaina allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out seven over four scoreless innings. Daniel Bello pitched the last three innings and he allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits, one of which was a solo homer, walked two, and struck out three.

Reimy Beltre allowed four hits, walked one, and struck out five over four scoreless. Jaime Melendez went three innings and allowed two runs on three hits, walked two, and struck out three. Ronny Garcia allowed a hit and struck out two over two scoreless.

Three Hooks pitchers combined on a one-hitter as they took this series from Frisco.

Bryan Abreu started things off by throwing five hitless innings; he walked two and struck out six. Justin Ferrell allowed the one hit, walked two, and struck out two in 1.2 innings. Colin McKee finished things off by allowing a walk and fanning five over the final 2.1 innings to earn the save.

Ronnie Dawson opened the scoring with a homer to lead off the bottom of the 3rd and struck again with an RBI single in the 4th. Lorenzo Quintana followed with an RBI double and Chuckie Robinson chipped in with an RBI base hit. Osvaldo Duarte capped off the scoring by whacking a solo homer in the 7th.

The bottom of the Corpus order took some cues from the Astros' bottom of the order as Dawson (solo HR, 2 RBI, 2 R), Quintana (RBI 2B), and Robinson (RBI single) combined to go 6-13; all of them finished with two hits on the night. Duarte and Stephen Wrenn also had two hits in the game.

The Hooks will now head west to start a four-game series in Midland. Brett Adcock will take on Kyle Friedrichs at 7:00.

Fayetteville 6, Salem 2

Normally, it would be tough to win when only two players drive in runs, but when they drive in more than one and when one of them does so with a grand slam, things get slightly easier. It also helps to have solid pitching to accompany players who find themselves having to carry the offensive load.

Brett Conine emerged as a winner in his Carolina League debut as he allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits, walked two, hit a batter, and struck out nine. It's the third time this season that Conine has struck out nine in one of his starts. Shawn Dubin took it home for the save as he allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out five over the final 3.2 innings.

The Woodpeckers only had two scoring plays but they were massive. Scott Manea opened the scoring with a two-run blast in the 2nd inning. After the Red Sox got those two runs back in the 3rd, Miguelangel Sierra clubbed a grand slam in the 4th inning. This was Sierra's second grand slam of the year. He and Manea were the only two players on either side to finish with more than one hit in this game and their homers were Fayetteville's only extra-base hits on the night.

Fayetteville and Salem will wrap up this series at 7:00 Eastern.

The Banditos' bats were caught napping on Wednesday afternoon and they had to settle for a split.

Scott Schreiber doubled to lead off the 9th but he was stranded there to end the day. His two-bagger was Quad Cities' lone extra-base hit of the game; Jonathan Lacroix and Trey Dawson had the other two base hits.

Brett Daniels pitched well but the absence of run support meant that he was forced to take the loss. He went six innings and he allowed the lone run on a homer hit by Jared Akins in the 4th. Overall, Daniels allowed four hits, walked three, and struck out three. Humberto Castellanos struck out two over two perfect innings.

Jojanse Torres will make his first start of the season in Peoria, where the Banditos will play four games this weekend. He'll take on Jacob Schlesener at 6:35.
