Tanielu went 2-4 and his homer turned out to be Fresno's only scoring play of the evening. Garrett Stubbs went 4-4 with a stolen base (6).

Cy Sneed went five innings and allowed three runs on five hits (solo homer), walked five, and struck out four. Kent Emanuel allowed two runs on four hits in the 6th inning. W- Ralph Garza Jr. (6-0, 6-1 season)
L- T.J. Weir (2-1)

Kit Scheetz struck out three over 2.2 perfect innings and Ralph Garza Jr. got a grounder to record the final out of the 10th inning.

Ronnie Dawson tripled to lead off the bottom of the 1st and scored Corpus Christi's first run on a sac fly from Stephen Wrenn. Randy César cranked a solo shot in the 3rd. Ryne Birk started the bottom of the 10th in scoring position; he advanced on a deep flyball out from Lorenzo Quintana and won the game when he came home on an Aníbal Sierra sac fly. No one on either side finished with more than one hit.

Castro advanced to third on a passed ball that was also ball four to David Hensley, who got caught stealing second, but again, Castro seized the opportunity to score the first run of the night.

Fresno 5, Iowa 4 in 10 innings

W- Brendan McCurry (5-4)
L- Craig Brooks (1-1)

Fresno home runs: A.J. Reed (22, 2-run in 6th)

Mike Hauschild went six innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits, walked two, and struck out two. Dean Deetz and Buddy Boshers both threw a scoreless inning out of the bullpen; Deetz had to get himself out of a bases-loaded predicament in the 7th and did so without incurring any damage. He allowed a hit, walked two, struck out one. Boshers plunked the first man he faced in the 8th but retired the next three batters via a sac bunt, flyball out, and a soft line drive. Brendan McCurry allowed two hits and struck out one over two scoreless innings.

Jake Marisnick singled to lead off the 1st and then stole second and advanced to third on the errant throw down. Tyler White opened up the scoring with a sac fly. A.J. Reed whacked a two-run homer in the 6th to cut Fresno's deficit down to one run and Nick Tanielu scored the tying run on a botched force out attempt in the 7th. Myles Straw started the inning in scoring position but was erased on a fielder's choice. Jake got caught stealing second, but D.J. Fisher kept the inning alive by drawing a walk. Fisher was successful in his attempt to take second and he scored the winning run on White's single.

White went 2-3 and has hit safely in 12 straight games for the second time this season. Tanielu and Jamie Ritchie both finished 2-4 on the evening.

Jake Meyers scored both of Buies Creek's runs in this game. He led off the third with his first Carolina League homer and scored on an Abraham Toro groundout in the 7th. Osvaldo Duarte finished 2-4. The Carolina Stros went 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.

The two runs that Hector Perez allowed in his five innings came on a couple of solo homers. He allowed three other hits and struck out seven. Cristian Javier pitched 2.1 innings and allowed a run on three hits, walked one, and struck out three. Jesús Balaguer got a couple of groundouts in the 8th to finish the inning.

Buies Creek and Carolina will wrap up this series at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 4, Beloit 2

W- Leovanny Rodriguez (3-1)
L- Ivan Andueza (0-4)
S- César Rosado (2)

QC home runs: None.

Both teams scored twice in the 4th inning. However, the Banditos also scored in the 2nd and the 8th, so they emerged as the winners.

Leovanny Rodriguez went five innings and allowed two runs on four hits while striking out five. César Rosado turned in four scoreless to earn the save, allowing two hits, walknig four, and striking out five.

Logan Mattix doubled to lead off the 2nd and scored the first run of the night on an error that also allowed Scott Schreiber to reach safely. Quad Cities' two runs in the 4th came on a couple of RBI doubles from Colton Shaver and Schreiber. Seth Beer ripped a leadoff double in the 8th and scored the final run of the evening on a base hit from Shaver, who went 2-4. Mattix also went 2-4; both of his hits were doubles.

Jairo Solís will take on Mitchell Jordan in game two of this series. First pitch is at 7:00.

Tri-City 3, Vermont 2

W- Carlos Hiraldo (1-0, 2-0 season)
L- Brady Feigl (1-1)
S- Tim Hardy (1)

TC home runs: None.

The ValleyCats topped the Lake Monsters despite issuing eight walks on the evening. Vermont countered by committing three errors, while Tri-City played mistake-free defense.

Gilberto Celestino hit a two-run double in the 3rd to open the scoring and Alex McKenna ripped an RBI double in the 5th. Trey Dawson went 2-4 with a double, stole a base, and scored two of the ValleyCats' three runs in this game.

Jose Luis Hernandez and Carlos Hiraldo both pitched three innings to start off. Hernandez allowed a run on three hits, walked two, and struck out one, while Hiraldo turned in a scoreless outing, allowing three hits, walking two, and striking out three. Ian Hardman got the first out of the 7th with a strikeout, but he ended up walking the bases loaded and one of the free passes he issued turned into a run after he left the game. Juan Pablo Lopez walked one and struck out two in 1.2 innings and Tim Hardy struck out two in a 1-2-3 9th to close it out.

Mark Moclair will take on Abdiel Mendoza in game three of this series. First pitch is at 12:05 Eastern.

W- Chris Vann (1-0)
L- Edgardo Sandoval (0-1)
S- Bobby Milacki (1)

The Palm Beach Stros were kept off the board by their complex mates.

Rhandall Sanchez went 2-4.

He also allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out two. Manny Ramirez allowed an unearned run on a sac fly, walked two, and struck out two in 2.2 innings.

DSL Marlins 2, DSL Astros 1

W- Yoilan Quinoñez (1-0)
L- Ricardo León (1-1)

Astros Minor League Recaps

Results for Wednesday, June 20, 2018

Aside from Tri-City running rampant in Maryland, it was a rather quiet night on the farm.

Corpus Christi with the...

Fresno was off

The Grizzlies will welcome Albuquerque to the Central Valley for a three-game set starting at 7:05 Pacific. Cy Sneed will take on former Astro Brett Oberholtzer.

Corpus Christi 1, San Antonio 0

W- Ryan Hartman (6-2)
L- Jacob Nix (1-1)
S- Riley Ferrell (7)

CC home runs: None.

There was only one run in this game, and it belonged to the Corpus Christi Hooks. The Hooks had a solid week in San Antonio: they won the first-half division title and clinched a playoff berth on Monday and wound up leaving with a sweep.

Yordan Alvarez doubled with two outs in the 7th, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored that one run on a Randy César single. With that base hit, César extended his hitting streak to 37 games and tied the Texas League record that was set by Bobby Trevino in 1969. Josh Rojas doubled and stole a base (12, 24 season).

Ryan Hartman, Dean Deetz, and Riley Ferrell combined on a one-hit shutout. Hartman allowed the one hit, walked three, and struck out eight in seven innings. Deetz and Ferrell both pitched 1-2-3 innings; Deetz struck out one in the 8th and Ferrell fanned two in the 9th to complete the shutout and the sweep.

The Hooks are back home and they will begin a four-game series with Frisco at 7:05. This weekend, they will play as the Corpus Christi Blue Ghosts to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the commissioning of the USS Lexington, the World War II-era aircraft carrier which is now preserved as a museum on the shores of Corpus Christi Bay. Corbin Martin will take on Tyler Wagner in game one.

Buies Creek was off

The Carolina Stros will start a three-game series with Carolina at 6:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities was off

The Banditos will start the second half with a four-game series against the Beloit Snappers. First pitch is at 6:35.

Tri-City 11, Aberdeen 5

W- Brady Rodgers (1-0)
L- Victor Romero (0-2)

TC home runs: Enmanuel Valdez (2, 2-run in 3rd), Michael Wielansky (1, solo in 3rd), Carlos Machado (1, solo in 7th)

Brady Rodgers pitched in a real baseball game for the first time in 14 months and one day and the offense went nuts early as Tri-City notched their first series win of the season.

Rodgers, who was making his first appearance since April 19, 2017, got knocked around a bit in his two innings, but that's beside the point. He's finally getting the chance to play baseball again. Rodgers allowed four runs on three hits (two-run homer), walked one, and struck out three. Chad Donato dominated in his five innings as he allowed an unearned run on a single, walked one, and struck out ten. This was the first time that Donato recorded double-digit strikeouts. Devin Conn and Shawn Dubin threw scoreless innings in their pro debuts; Conn struck out one in a 1-2-3 8th, while Dubin allowed a hit and struck out the side in the 9th.

Jeremy Peña walked to lead off the game. He moved to third on a Seth Beer single and scored the first run of the evening on a passed ball. Enmanuel Valdez eventually worked a walk and then a wild pitch allowed him and Beer to advance. Beer scored on a Michael Wielansky groundout. Another wild pitch allowed Valdez to move to third and Gilberto Celestino brought him in with a double. The real fun started in the 3rd inning.

Beer ripped a double to start the 3rd and Valdez followed by launching a homer. Wielansky went back-to-back by smacking a solo homer. Tri-City then loaded the bases as Celestino reached on an error, Jose Carrillo doubled, and Andy Piñeda drew a walk following a pitching change. Carlos Machado and Oscar Campos walked in a couple of runs, and Peña drove in two more with a base hit. Machado drove in the last Tri-City run when he whacked a solo homer in the 7th. Everyone but Campos scored a run. Beer went 2-5 and was the only player on either side to finish with a multi-hit game. He, Valdez, and Machado all scored twice.

Tri-City will head home to start a three-game series with the Lowell Spinners. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

GCL Astros were off

On occasion, I can't read a schedule correctly. The Palm Beach Stros will travel to Jupiter to take on the Marlins at noon Eastern.

DSL Royals1 2, DSL Astros 1

W- Emilio Marquez (2-0)
L- Jeremy Molero (0-2)

DSL home runs: None.

The Royals 1 scored in the 9th to tie and scored again in the 10th to walk off with the win.

Jeury Castillo went 2-4 and drove in the Academy's only run of the day with a single in the 2nd inning. Carlos Hurtado also had two hits after he came on to catch in the 6th inning.

Wender Oberto allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out three over four scoreless innings to start the ballgame. Jose Betances worked around a walk to throw a scoreless 5th, striking out two. Heitor Tokar allowed two hits and struck out two over three scoreless. Jeremy Molero allowed two runs (one earned), walked three (one intentionally), and struck out one in 1+ inning.

Quad Cities sweep!

New Orleans 4, Fresno 1

W- Odrisamer Despaigne (1-0)
L- Cy Sneed (6-3)
S- Javy Guerra (1)

Fresno home runs: None.

The Grizzlies were kept in check in the Big Easy.

Nick Tanielu's RBI single in the 6th was Fresno's only scoring play. Tim Federowicz went 2-3 and scored on Tanielu's base hit.

Cy Sneed went 5.1 innings and allowed three runs (one inherited runner charged to him) on seven hits, walked one, and struck out six. Buddy Boshers and Andrew Thome both pitched 1.1 innings. Boshers allowed two hits, had an inherited runner charged to him (the run was unearned), and struck out three. Thome allowed a hit.

Mike Hauschild will face Zac Gallen in the series finale. First pitch is at 7:00.

Corpus Christi 2, Midland 1

W- Yoanys Quiala (6-5)
L- Joel Seddon (4-4)
S- Riley Ferrell (6)

CC home runs: Josh Rojas (5, 6 season; 2-run in 8th)

Both teams had one scoring play. Fortunately for the Hooks, their scoring play yielded more runs.

Ryan Hartman went five innings and allowed a run on three hits, walked two, and struck out six. Yoanys Quiala allowed a hit, walked two, and struck out for over three scoreless, and Riley Ferrell worked around a hit to close out the game, striking out one.

Josh Rojas launched a two-run home run in the 8th to put Corpus on the board and in the lead.

Corbin Martin will face Logan Shore in game three. First pitch is at 7:00.

Potomac 2, Buies Creek 0

W- Joan Baez (3-5)
L- Tyler Ivey (0-1, 1-4 season)
S- Jordan Mills (6)

BC home runs: None.

The Carolina Stros' bats went silent to start a new series.

The only three hits they got were singles from Luis Payano, J.J. Matijevic, and Jake Adams.

Tyler Ivey allowed two runs on three hits, walked one, and struck out four in five innings. Hector Perez followed with three scoreless, allowing two hits, walking one, and striking out four.

Carson LaRue will start game two of this series. First pitch is at 7:05 Eastern.

Quad Cities 5, Clinton 2

W- César Rosado (3-2)
L- Ray Kerr (2-6)
S- Carlos Sanabria (6)

QC home runs: None.

Both teams had five hits, but the Banditos had more in the column that counts and they earned a huge series sweep to pull even with the LumberKings as the first half winds down in the Midwest League.

Quad Cities loaded the bases to start the 4th inning and got three runs out of it as Corey Julks scored on what should have been Colton Shaver grounding into a force out, but an error resulted in everyone reaching safely. Miguelangel Sierra followed with a two-run single. Bryan de la Cruz hit an RBI single in the 8th and an error allowed Julks to score another run on the play.

César Rosado allowed an unearned run on four hits and struck out nine in 7.2 innings of work. The nine strikeouts tie a career high for Rosado; he struck out nine on August 11, 2016 when he was in the Gulf Coast League.

Dean Deetz got the last out of the 8th and the first two outs in the 9th. He allowed a hit, had an inherited runner charged to him, walked two, and struck out three. Carlos Sanabria issued a walk but got a strikeout to end the game.

Quad Cities will wrap up the first half with a three-game series against Burlington. Patrick Sandoval will start the opener against Denny Brady; first pitch is at 6:35.

DSL Marlins 4, DSL Astros 3 in 11 innings

W- Luis Palacios (1-0)
L- Cristofer Mezquita (0-1)
S- Juan Borges (1)

DSL home runs: None.

The Academy's struggles continued with an extra-inning loss to the Marlins.

Heitor Tokar and Wender Oberto both threw four innings. Tokar allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and struck out two, while Oberto allowed four hits and fanned four. Jose Betances allowed two unearned runs (one inherited runner charged to him) on two hits and struck out one in two innings, and Cristofer Mezquita allowed a hit in the 11th.

Yefri Carrillo doubled to lead off the 1st and scored the first run of the day on a wild pitch. Carlos Hurtado hit a sac fly that turned into an inning-ending double play in the 3rd inning, and Carrillo added an RBI single to his ledger in the 10th.

Astros Minor League Recaps

Results for Monday, June 12, 2017

Fresno was off

OK... I couldn't sleep until 1 and woke up at 5 to finish off Sunday's recaps. I didn't see the part where Fresno had Monday off.

Casey Coleman takes on Thad Weber in the first of a 4-game series in Albuquerque. First pitch is at 7:05 Mountain.

San Antonio 7, Corpus Christi 3

W- Kyle McGrath (1-1)
L- Jacob Dorris (1-2)

CC home runs: None.

The wheels fell off late for the Corpus bullpen as the Missions went off for 5 in the bottom of the 8th to seize control of this game.

Jon Singleton opened the scoring with a sac fly in the opening frame. J.D. Davis finished 3-4 with RBI singles in the 6th and the 8th. Jason Martin also finished 3-4 and scored 2 of Corpus Christi's 3 runs.

The two runs that Rogelio Armenteros allowed in his 5.2 innings of work came on a homer hit by Stephen McGee (not the former Texas A&M quarterback) in the 3rd. Armenteros allowed 3 other hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. Jacob Dorris went 1.2 innings and had 3 inherited runners charged to him in the 8th inning. He allowed a single, walked 2, and struck out 2. Ryan Thompson got the final two outs of the 8th, one via strikeout, but allowed all 5 San Antonio runs (again, 3 were charged to Dorris). Thompson allowed 2 runs of his own on 2 hits.

The Hooks will look to avoid the sweep as Josh James takes the mound. He'll take on Christian Friedrich at 7:05.

Potomac 12, Buies Creek 4

W- Nolan Sanburn (1-1)
L- Howie Brey (0-2)

BC home runs: Dex McCall (4, solo in 3rd)

The Carolina Stros were buried by an 8-run 4th from the Nationals.

Brett Adcock went 3 innings and allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 3. Howie Brey had to wear it in the 4th as he allowed all 8 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits (solo and 3-run homres) and walked 1. Ryan Hartman restored order with 3 scoreless innings, walking 1 and striking out 2. The 2 runs that Andrew Walter allowed in the 8th came on a homer hit by Ian Sagdal. He allowed one other hit in the inning.

3 of Buies Creek's 4 runs came in the 3rd. Dex McCall led it off with a homer. Ryne Birk added an RBI single and Stephen Wrenn added a sac fly. Alex De Goti scored on a wild pitch/Rodrigo Ayarza walk in the 7th. Myles Straw went 2-4 to extend his hitting streak to 6 games and his 2-hit game streak to 5.

Yoanys Quiala gets the start in game 2 of this series and he'll go up against Luis Reyes at 7:05 Eastern.

Beloit 1, Quad Cities 0

W- Zack Erwin (1-0)
L- Ronel Blanco (2-1, 2-2 season)
S- Xavier Altamirano (2)

QC home runs: None.

The Banditos were foiled in their bid to sweep the series as they got held off the scoreboard.

Ronel Blanco went 4.2 innings and allowed the only run of the game, which scored on a double play in the 2nd. He allowed 3 hits, walked 4, and struck out 5. Yohan Ramirez allowed a hit and walked 1 over 3.1 scoreless innings.

Marcos Almonte and Carmen Benedetti both doubled. That was all for the Quad Cities offense.

Angel Tejeda smacked a 2-run double in the 5th and Cortez hit an RBI single in the 6th. Ceuta, Cortez, and Kendy Moya all finished with 2 hits on the day; Cortez also walked twice and reached in all four of his plate appearances.

Yulian Frontado allowed 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 1 over 4.1 scoreless innings. Jean Reyes got the final 2 outs of the 5th, one via strikeout. Yeremi Ceballos pitched the last 4 innings and allowed an unearned run on 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5.

Team Orange seized control with 5 runs in the 6th inning.

Hector Martinez scored the first run of the day on a wild pitch in the 1st inning. This would be the Orange team's only run until they went off in the 6th.

Kelvin Perez reached on an error to lead off the inning, advanced to 2nd on Ramiro Rodriguez single, and scored on a Samir Caraballo single. Deury Carrasco walked to load the bases. Michael Garcia went down on strikes for the first out, but Gerry Castillo came through with a bases-clearing triple. Castillo scored on an error that allowed Jeury Castillo to reach.
