Nashville 13, Fresno 3
W- Dan Mengden (1-1)
L- Trent Thornton (1-2, 2-4 season)
Fresno home runs: Max Stassi (2, solo in 3rd), D.J. Fisher (9, 2-run in 8th)
The Grizzlies were buried by a 13-run, 19-hit onslaught from the Sounds on Wednesday.
All three Fresno runs came on the two home runs you see above.
Trent Thornton bore the brunt of the assault in his 4 innings... I'll leave it at that, but he did strike out 6 without issuing a walk. Silver linings. Brian Holmes also went 4 innings; he allowed 4 runs on 10 hits (solo homer), walked 1, and struck out 5. Andrew Aplin got 3 groundouts in the 9th inning.
Hopefully, Fresno will have a little more luck against the other Tennessee team: Memphis is in town for the weekend. Mike Hauschild is being called upon to start game 1, and he'll go up against Luke Weaver at 7:05 Pacific.
Corpus Christi 6, San Antonio 1
W- Dean Deetz (4-1)
L- Kyle Lloyd (4-4)
CC home runs: None.
Corpus earned the split as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead and Dean Deetz shined yet again.
The one run that Deetz allowed in his 7 innings of work came on a home run hit by Nick Schulz in the 6th. He allowed 4 other hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. Albert Minnis pitched a 1-2-3 8th, and Jacob Dorris worked around a walk to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out 1.
Ramon Laureano opened the scoring with a 2-run single in the 1st inning. Garrett Stubbs came through in a bases-loaded situation in the 2nd with a 2-run single of his own. Bobby Boyd added an RBI groundout in the 3rd, and Jon Singleton capped off the evening with an RBI single in the 7th. Singleton (RBI, R), J.D. Davis (2B, R, SB), Laureano (2 RBI, SB), and Tony Nuñez (SB, R) all finished with two hits on the evening.
The Hooks' road trip concludes with four in Frisco. Rogelio Armenteros will face Connor Sadzeck at 7:05.
Myrtle Beach 7, Buies Creek 1
W- Justin Steele (2-3)
L- Matt Bower (2-1)
BC home runs: None.
The Carolina Stros were foiled in their bid to sweep the series as the Pelicans roughed up Matt Bower.
Bower went 4.2 innings and allowed 6 runs (5 earned) on 6 hits (2-run and 3-run homers) and struck out 4. Carlos Sierra tagged in to throw the final 3.1 innings and allowed a run on a sac fly, a single, walked 2, and fanned 4.
Anthony Hermelyn's RBI single in the 1st was Buies Creek's only scoring play of the game. Kyle Tucker finished 3-4.
Buies Creek will finish up this road trip where they started: in Kinston. Justin Ferrell will start the opener and he'll face Wes Benjamin at 7:00 Eastern.
Kane County 1, Quad Cities 0
W- Cody Reed (3-1)
L- Carlos Sanabria (0-1)
QC home runs: None.
Both teams posted just three hits in this game, but the Cougars got the game's only run.
The Banditos' three hits were singles from Rodrigo Ayarza, Marcos Almonte, and Yordan Alvarez.
Forrest Whitley allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 6 over 5 shutout innings. The one hit he allowed came in his final inning of work. Carlos Sanabria pitched the final 3 innings and allowed the only run of the game on 2 hits, walked 3, and struck out 2.
Enoli Paredes will start game 2 of this series. He'll take on Seven Lakes alum and former Rice Owl Jon Duplantier at 6:30.
