Memphis 4, Fresno 2

W- Marco Gonzales (1-0)
L- Francis Martes (0-2)
S- Ryan Sherriff (3)

Fresno home runs: Colin Moran (8, 2-run in 8th)

The Grizzlies held the Redbirds to four hits in this game, but Memphis came out on top in the column that matters most. Fresno was left to rue some missed chances on Saturday night: they stranded two runners in scoring position to end the 6th. Also, A.J. Reed doubled to lead off the 7th but couldn't advance further.

Colin Moran extended his hitting streak to 8 games and launched a 2-run homer in the 8th for the Grizzlies' only runs of the night. He and Reed both finished 2-4.

Francis Martes went 5 innings, and the two runs he allowed came on a homer hit by Patrick Wisdom in the 2nd inning. He allowed one other hit, walked 4, and struck out 7. Tyson Perez went 2 innings and allowed 2 runs on 2 hits (solo homer) and struck out 2. Jordan Jankowski and Dayan Diaz both threw 1-2-3 innings; Jankowski struck out 2 in the 8th, while Diaz logged an immaculate 9th inning, striking out the side on 9 pitches.

Casey Coleman takes the mound in game 3 of this series. He'll go up against Artie Reyes at 1:05 Pacific.

Frisco 6, Corpus Christi 2

W- Ariel Jurado (4-3)
L- Cy Sneed (2-4)

CC home runs: Bobby Boyd (2, 2-run in 7th)

The Hooks didn't have an answer for Ariel Jurado on Saturday night.

To clarify: they didn't have an answer for Jurado until the 7th, when Bobby Boyd launched a 2-run homer to knock him out of the game. Kristian Trompiz and Drew Ferguson followed up with singles to keep the inning alive, but they were both stranded on the basepaths to end the inning. Ferguson, Trompiz, and Ramon Laureano all had 2 hits on the night; Ferguson has extended his hitting streak to 17 games, matching the season-high in the system set by D.J. Fisher in Fresno.

Cy Sneed went 3 innings and allowed 5 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. Riley Ferrell allowed a run on 3 hits and struck out 1 in 2 innings, and Brock Dykxhoorn was the only Hooks hurler to turn in a scoreless outing; he allowed 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1.

Akeem Bostick is back from the disabled list, and he gets another crack at his old organization. He'll face David Ledbetter at 4:05.

Buies Creek 8, Down East 2

W- Yoanys Quiala (4-1)
L- Richelson Peña (2-2)
S- Framber Valdez (1)

BC home runs: None.

The Carolina Stros stormed out to a 6-0 lead after 0.5 innings and cruised to the finish.

The one run that Yoanys Quiala allowed in his 5 innings came on a solo homer hit by Michael O'Neill in the 2nd inning. Other than that, he had a largely stress-free evening. Quiala allowed one other hit, walked 1, and struck out 2. Framber Valdez tagged in to work the final 4 innings; the one hit (and run) he allowed was an RBI single in the 7th. He walked 2 and struck out 6.

Buies Creek loaded the bases right off the bat as Jason Martin singled, Ryne Birk got hit by a pitch, and Jake Rogers drew a walk. Kyle Tucker promptly sent them all home with a double. Spencer Johnson and Pat Porter walked to re-load the bases. Arturo Michelena was the first casualty of the evening, but Dex McCall walked to bring in Tucker and knock out Peña. Martin ripped a 2-run double in his second plate appearance of the inning.

Anibal Sierra hit a sac fly in the 3rd and Johnson capped off the night with an RBI double in the 8th. Martin and Michelena both finished with 3 hits on the evening, while Little Tuck went 2-4.

Hector Perez will face Pedro Payano in game 3 of this series. First pitch is at 2:00 Eastern.

Kane County 1, Quad Cities 0

W- Ryan Burr (1-1)
L- Abdiel Saldaña (1-1)
S- Tommy Eveld (8)

QC home runs: None.

The Banditos have been shut out in each of the first three games in this series. The last time they scored was in the 4th inning against Burlington on Wednesday, which was 31 innings ago.

Ryan Hartman allowed 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7 over 6 shutout innings. Abdiel Saldaña pitched 2 innings and allowed the game's only run (which was unearned) on an RBI single. He allowed two other hits and struck out 1.

Yordan Alvarez went 2-4 with a double; he has a hit in 5 out his first 6 games with Quad Cities.

Quad Cities isn't just looking to avoid the sweep, they're looking to get on the scoreboard for the first time this weekend. Carson LaRue will take on Sam McWilliams at 1:00.
