The Astros' upper-level clubs got the better of their Royals counterparts on Wednesday.

All of the runs in this game belonged to the Express.

Meanwhile, three pitchers combined to keep the Storm Chasers off the scoreboard. Kent Emanuel allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out five over seven shutout innings. Ralph Garza Jr. and Felipe Paulino finished things off with one scoreless inning apiece. Garza allowed a hit and fanned one in the 8th while Paulino worked around a couple of walks to get the save, striking out one.

Jack Mayfield scored the first run of the night on a Kyle Tucker groundout in the 4th and Josh Rojas smacked a two-run homer in the 5th inning. Mayfield and Nick Tanielu both finished 2-4; Mayfield also stole a base, his fifth on the year. Carlos Correa went 1-2 with a couple of walks and scored on Rojas' home run.

Carson LaRue takes on Arnaldo Hernandez in the series finale. First pitch is at 7:05.

Corpus Christi 3, Northwest Arkansas 1

The Hooks got a couple in the 8th to take the lead and added an insurance run in the 9th as they came out on top in Northwest Arkansas.

Tyler Ivey allowed an unearned run on a sac fly, a hit, walked two, and struck out five in 2.1 innings of work. Carlos Sanabria was the first man out of the Corpus bullpen and he issued a walk while striking out four in 1.2 innings. J.B. Bukauskas took it home as he allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out seven over the last five innings.

Seth Beer got plunked with one out in the 8th and Lorenzo Quintana joined him on the bases following a double. Colton Shaver was intentionally walked to load the bases for Chuckie Robinson, who... struck out for the second out. It all fell to Osvaldo Duarte and he came through with a two-run single to put the Hooks on the board and in the lead. Beer capped off the scoring with an RBI single in the 9th. Duarte finished 2-3 on the night.

Bryan Abreu takes the mound for game two. He'll take on Conner Greene at 7:05.

Game 1: Fayetteville 4, Lynchburg 3 (8 innings)

Fayetteville home runs: Jake Adams (14, 2-run in 1st)

The Woodpeckers tied it with one in the 7th and scored another in the 8th to walk off with the win in game one.

Forrest Whitley got the start and he allowed two runs (one inherited runner charged to him) on three hits, walked one, and struck out two in 3.1 innings. Cody Deason got the last 4.2 innings and he allowed an unearned run on two hits, walked two, and struck out one.

Jake Adams whacked a two-run homer in the bottom of the 1st. Jeremy Peña kept the game alive by ripping a two-out double in the 7th and he came around to score the tying run on a single from Jonathan Arauz. Corey Julks started the 8th in scoring position and he scored the winning run on Michael Papierski's infield single. Papierski went 3-4 in game one. Peña (2B, R), Arauz (RBI, SB), and Julks (2B, 2 R) all finished with two hits.

Game 2: Fayetteville 3, Lynchburg 0

Fayetteville home runs: Jake Adams (15, 2-run in 1st)

Extra innings not needed. Only one pitcher needed.

Jojanse Torres allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out eight as he threw a complete game, albeit a seven-inning complete game, for the first time in his career.

All three Fayetteville runs in game two came in the 1st. Corey Julks hit an infield single and an error on the play allowed Jonathan Arauz to score. Jake Adams followed by whacking a two-run home run.

The Woodpeckers are looking for the sweep and Brett Conine will take on Justin Garza at 7:00 Eastern.

Peoria 9, Quad Cities 5

QC home runs: Austin Dennis (3, solo in 3rd)

The Chiefs went off for seven in the 7th.

Abdiel Saldaña started off by allowing a hit, walking two, and striking out three over four scoreless. Unfortunately, Peoria teed off on Matt Ruppenthal and Luis de Paula. Layne Henderson restored some order as he allowed a hit and struck out two in a scoreless 9th, but the damage was done.

The Banditos opened the scoring in the 3rd as Austin Dennis went deep. Freúdis Nova followed with a double and he ended up scoring on an errant pickoff attempt. Trey Dawson scored on a wild pitch in the 7th and then he and Jonathan Lacroix drew bases-loaded walks in the 8th. Dawson and Dennis had two hits apiece.

Brett Daniels gets the start in game two of this series. He'll go against Michael Brettell at 6:35.

Brooklyn 9, Tri-City 2

W- Mitch Ragan (1-2)
L- Kyle Serrano (0-2)

TC home runs: None.

The Cyclones led 5-0 after the 1st and Tri-City never really threatened here.

Kyle Serrano and Michael Horrell got roughed up as Brooklyn got six runs off the two of them in the first two innings. Manny Ramirez and Blair Henley managed to throw three innings apiece afterward. Manny allowed a run on two hits, walked two, and struck out five, while Henley allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits, walked one, and fanned five.

Joe Perez was involved in both of the ValleyCats scoring plays; he drove in a run with a groundout in the 2nd and scored on a wild pitch in the 5th.

Tri-City and Brooklyn will conclude this series at 7:00 Eastern.

GCL Marlins 16, GCL Astros 6

GCL home runs: Yimmi Cortabarria (2, 3-run in 2nd)

The Palm Beach 'Stros scored six runs in the first two innings. Unfortunately, they were kept off the board for the remainder of this game.

Yimmi Cortabarria hit an RBI single in the 1st and launched a three-run homer in the 2nd. Before he went deep, Dexter Jordan grounded into a force out that scored Tyler Krabbe and he later scored himself on a wild pitch that Sean Mendoza struck out on. Cortabarria and Yefri Carrillo both finished with two hits on the day.

Tough day at the office for the pitching staff.

The Astros will take on the Nationals at noon Eastern.

DSL Astros 5, DSL Rays1 0

W- Reimy Beltre (3-0)
L- José Gonzalez (1-4)

DSL home runs: Miguel Palma (4, solo in 2nd)

After getting rocked by the Royals 1 the last couple of days, the Dominican 'Stros got back on track by blanking the Rays 1.

Jaime Melendez and Reimy Beltre started things off with four scoreless innings apiece. Melendez allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out three, while Beltre allowed one hit, walked two, and struck out five. Edinson Batista struck out one in a 1-2-3 9th to complete the shutout.

Miguel Palma smacked a two-run home run in the 2nd to open the scoring. Jesús Liranzo singled to lead off the 5th, advanced to third on Palma's double, and scored on an errant pickoff throw. Carlos Hurtado had an RBI single in the 6th and Andrés Monzón smacked an RBI triple in the 9th. Palma finished 2-3 on the afternoon.

Both of these teams will play again at 11:30 AM Atlantic.

Albuquerque 10, Fresno 0

Yeah, I'd rather not touch this one.

On the bright side, the Grizzlies did not end up getting no-hit as Garrett Stubbs doubled to lead off the bottom of the 9th.

Fresno and Albuquerque will conclude this series at 5:05 Pacific.

Corpus Christi 6, Springfield 2

CC home runs: Ronnie Dawson (3, 13 season; solo in 1st)

The Hooks got a huge night at the plate from Ronnie Dawson and Corbin Martin continues to truck along with another nice outing.

Martin allowed two runs on four hits, walked one, and struck out eight in his six innings of work. Kit Scheetz was the first man out of the Corpus bullpen and he turned in two no-hit innings, walking two and striking out two. Alex Winkelman worked around a hit to close out the game.

Dawson started things off with a homer to lead off the 1st inning. The Hooks got two in the 2nd inning thanks to RBI doubles from Aníbal Sierra and Dawson. Dawson singled with one out in the 4th and moved up on a base hit from Stephen Wrenn. They both advanced on a balk and Carmen Benedetti hit a sac fly to bring Dawson in. Chas McCormick led off the 8th with a walk and scored the final run of the evening when Lorenzo Quintana ripped a double. Dawson finished 4-5 on the night while Sierra and Abraham Toro both had two hits apiece.

Akeem Bostick will start the series finale and he'll take on Anthony Shew at 2:05.

Frederick 2, Buies Creek 1 in 10 innings

L- Tommy DeJuneas (0-2, 2-4 season)

BC home runs: None.

The Keys pushed their leadoff runner across in the first extra frame and walked off with a win.

Abdiel Saldaña went five innings and allowed an unearned run on four hits while striking out three. Carson LaRue did not allow a hit in four innings; he walked one and struck out three. Tommy DeJuneas got two strikeouts in the 10th but he also allowed the winning run on two hits.

Jake Meyers drove in Buies Creek's only run with a single in the 3rd inning.

Peter Solomon will face Michael Baumann in the final game of this series. First pitch is at 2:00 Eastern.

Cedar Rapids 9, Quad Cities 6

An 8-0 deficit proved to be too much for the Banditos to overcome.

Quad Cities scored two runs in each of the innings in which they scored. Miguelangel Sierra ripped a two-run double in the 5th to put them on the board. Colton Shaver led off the 6th with a homer. Jonathan Lacroix got thrown out at third trying to turn a double into a triple, but David Hensley kept things going with a base hit. He moved to third on a single from Chandler Taylor and scored on Sierra's sac fly. Mike Papierski launched a home run to start the 9th and Hensley hit an RBI single with two outs in the inning. Papierski, Hensley, Taylor, and Logan Mattix all finished with two hits on the evening.

Leovanny Rodriguez labored through four innings as he allowed five runs on nine hits (solo and two-run homers) and struck out four. Tim Hardy received a rude welcome to the Midwest League as he allowed four runs on six hits (two-run homer) while striking out three in 1.2 innings. Brendan Feldmann restored some semblance of order to this game from the Banditos' standpoint, but the damage was done. Feldmann allowed a hit, walked two, and struck out four over 2.1 scoreless innings and Humberto Castellanos escaped a bases-loaded predicament in the 9th; he allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out one.

Edgardo Sandoval goes up against Jhoan Duran at 5:15.

Tri-City 8, Vermont 5

TC home runs: Oscar Campos (2, solo in 5th)

After a topsy-turvy start to this game, the ValleyCats were able to seize control.

Juan Pablo Lopez only recorded two outs in the 1st. He allowed three unearned runs on three hits and struck out one. Jacob Billingsley was the first man out of the Tri-City bullpen and went 2.2 innings, allowing two runs, one of which was an inherited runner that was charged to him, on six hits and struck out four. Felipe Tejada struck out six over 4.2 near-perfect innings; he allowed one of Billingsley's runners to score on a sac fly and also plunked another man. Austin Hansen walked one and struck out one in the 9th.

Trey Dawson opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st and he came around to score on a single from Alex Holderbach. Juan Piñeda reached on an error to lead off the 2nd and scored on a Carlos Machado groundout. Oscar Campos hit an RBI single in the 3rd and then whacked a solo homer with two outs in the 5th that tied the game at 5. Piñeda kept the line moving with a base hit and he scored the go-ahead run on a Ramiro Rodriguez double. Holderbach smacked a two-run triple in the 6th and very nearly turned into a three-run inside-the-park homer... but he got thrown out at the plate to end the inning. Holderbach (3B, 3 RBI), Campos (solo HR, 2 RBI), Rodriguez (2 2B, RBI), and Enmanuel Valdez (2B) all had two hits in this game. Austin Dennis scored twice and stole a couple of bases, giving him 14 on the season.

The ValleyCats will conclude this brief two-game set at 5:05 Eastern. After this contest, they'll have a break for the New York-Penn League All-Star game.

The Palm Beach Stros were blanked by their complex mates.

Ronaldo Urdaneta went 2-4 with a double; Rhandall Sanchez's double was the GCL Astros' only other hit.

Jose Bravo went five innings and allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out three; both of the runs he allowed came in the 1st. Angel Macuare pitched the last three innings and allowed a run on two hits and struck out four.

Wednesday's games are first.

Fresno

It all unraveled late on Wednesday for the Grizzlies as they fell 6-1 to Colorado Springs.

W- Bubba Derby (3-3)
L- James Hoyt (0-3)

Fresno home runs: A.J. Reed (11, solo in 2nd)

A.J. Reed smacked a solo homer in the 2nd that turned out to be the only Fresno run of the evening. Garrett Stubbs went 3-3.

Brock Dykxhoorn allowed a run on just three hits while striking out six in his seven innings of work. Unfortunately, James Hoyt bore the brunt of the Colorado Springs assault in the 8th inning as he allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits (three-run homer) and walked one. He did strike out the side, so I suppose that qualifies as a silver lining. Jacob Dorris allowed an unearned run on a sacrifice fly in the 9th. He also hit two batters in the inning.

The Grizzlies, doing business as the Fresno Raisin Eaters on Thursday as they paid homage to Fresno's first Pacific Coast League ballclub, got out to a quick start and came out with a 6-2 win to even their series with the Sky Sox.

Fresno home runs: Tyler White (11, 2-run in 7th)

The Raisin Eaters scored twice in three separate innings. A.J. Reed and J.D. Davis singled to start the 2nd, but it looked like they'd be stranded after D.J. Fisher and Eduardo de Oleo followed by going down on strikes. Jon Kemmer came through, however, as he poked a ground ball right back up the middle to bring Reed in for the game's first run. Davis moved to third on the base hit and ended up scoring on a wild pitch. Drew Ferguson walked and Kyle Tucker smacked a ground-rule double to lead off the 3rd. They both ended up scoring on sacrifice flies; Tyler White brought Ferguson in and Reed hit another one to score Little Tuck. White whacked a two-run homer in the 7th. Tucker finished 2-4 and also stole a base, his 7th of the season.

Cy Sneed allowed five hits and struck out eight over six shutout innings. Reymin Guduan was the first man out of the Fresno bullpen and allowed a run on two hits and struck out one in two innings. Ralph Garza got two outs in the 9th via the strikeout, but he also allowed a run on two hits, walked two, and left the bases loaded for Buddy Boshers, who ended the game by striking out Kyle Wren.

The Grizzlies welcome Oklahoma City to the Central Valley this weekend. Mike Hauschild will start game one and he'll face Daniel Corcino at 7:05 Pacific.

Corpus Christi

The Hooks topped Frisco by a final of 4-2 on Wednesday.

W- Chris Nunn (3-0)
L- Jeff Springs (2-2)

CC home runs: Stephen Wrenn (6, 3-run in 8th)

Stephen Wrenn was the hero on Wednesday as his three-run blast in the 8th proved to be the difference.

Randy César set a new club record when he doubled to lead off the 4th, which extended his hitting streak to 28 games. He scored the first run of the evening on a single from Ryne Birk. Wrenn, Birk, and Chas McCormick all finished 2-4 on the evening.

Akeem Bostick allowed a hit and struck out four over three scoreless innings in his return from the disabled list. Kit Scheetz, Cionel Perez, and Chris Nunn all threw two innings apiece out of the bullpen and they all struck out two. Scheetz allowed two hits in a scoreless outing. Cionel allowed two runs on three hits, and Nunn walked one.

Both teams scored in the 4th. However, Frisco scored more in their half, so they came away with a 2-1 victory on Thursday.

L- Framber Valdez (2-3)
S- Reed Garrett (4)

CC home runs: None.

Framber Valdez turned in a decent outing but was forced to take the loss. He allowed two runs on four hits, walked one, and struck out six in six innings of work. Alex Winkelman walked one and struck out two over two scoreless, and Riley Ferrell emerged unscathed despite loading the bases in the 9th. He allowed a couple of hits, walked one, and struck out two.

Chas McCormick's sac fly in the 4th brought in the only Corpus run. Taylor Jones and Randy César both went 2-4; César's hitting streak now stands at 29 games.

Forrest Whitley will make his long-awaited season debut in the finale of this series. He'll take on Ariel Jurado at 7:05.

Buies Creek

Buies Creek mounted a comeback bid in the 9th on Wednesday but it fell short, and they ended up dropping a 4-3 decision to Myrtle Beach.

BC home runs: None.

The Carolina Stros' comeback bid fell short.

Brandon Bailey was the tough-luck loser in this one as he allowed a run on three hits and struck out four in five innings. Unfortunately, he received zero runs to support his outing. The three runs that Brett Adcock allowed in his four innings of work came on a home run in the 9th. Adcock allowed one other hit, walked one, and struck out five.

All three Buies Creek runs came in the 9th. Abraham Toro hit an RBI single to put them on the board and Ronnie Dawson followed with a groundout to bring J.J. Matijevic home. Jake Adams followed with a walk and Luis Payano kept things moving with an RBI base hit. Sadly, he and Adams were both stranded to end the game as Chuckie Robinson grounded out. Payano went 2-4 on the night.

Buies Creek got a two-run shot from Abraham Toro in the 4th inning of their contest against the Pelicans on Thursday, which tied the game at 2. Myrtle Beach responded with two runs of their own in the 5th to regain the lead and that was the difference as they took the finale by a score of 4-2.

BC home runs: Abraham Toro (9, 2-run in 4th)

Toro finished 3-3 on the night and accounted for three of Buies Creek's five hits.

Tyler Ivey went four innings and allowed two runs on four hits (solo homer), walked two, and struck out three. Jesús Balaguer allowed two runs (one inherited runner charged to him), a solo homer, walked one, and got two outs (one via strikeout) in the 5th. Abdiel Saldaña allowed four hits and struck out five in 4.1 innings.

The Carolina Stros will spend the weekend in Kinston as round four of the Lone Star Series in North Carolina begins at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities

The Banditos scored three in the top of the 5th against Wisconsin... but the Timber Rattlers scored twice in two separate innings, giving them the 4-3 win on Wednesday.

Alfredo Angarita went 2-3 and ripped a two-run triple to open the scoring in the 5th and then he trotted home on Jonathan Lacroix's single. Bryan de la Cruz also finished 2-3 and scored on Angarita's three-bagger.

Enoli Paredes went 4.1 innings and allowed two runs on four hits and struck out five. Yohan Ramirez pitched the last 3.2 innings and allowed two runs on two hits, walked one, and struck out four.

There was only one run scored on Thursday. Unfortunately, it belonged to Wisconsin and Quad Cities ended up getting swept out of Appleton.

Cristian Javier allowed the only run on a single from Demi Orimoloye in the opening frame. He allowed one other hit, walked two, and struck out six. It's the first time that Javier did not record more strikeouts than innings pitched this season. Humberto Castellanos allowed four hits, walked one, and struck out two in two scoreless innings.

Mike Papierski doubled for Quad Cities' only extra-base hit.

The Banditos will look to get back on track as they begin a four-game series in Peoria at 7:00. Parker Mushinski will take on Johan Oviedo in game one.

DSL Astros

Once again, a big 2nd inning doomed the Academy as they got swept by the Rays by a score of 6-4.

Yimmi Cortabarria went 2-2 with a sac fly in the 2nd and a couple of RBI singles in the 6th and the 8th. Enmanuel Morillo scored on a wild pitch in the 6th inning and Rolando Espinosa went 2-3 with a double and scored two runs. Well... they had their chances, but the Academy went 2-16 with runners in scoring position in this game.

Jose Antonio Hernandez went two-plus innings and allowed six runs (two earned, one inherited runner charged to him) on seven hits, walked one, and struck out one. The bullpen picked Hernandez up with seven scoreless, although one of Hernandez's runners scored after he left. Ernesto Jaquez allowed three hits and struck out five in four innings. Cristofer Mezquita went two innings and allowed a hit while striking out three, and Ronny Garcia worked around a walk to throw a scoreless 9th.

The Academy's tough start to 2018 continued with an 8-6, 10-inning loss to the A's on Thursday.

Carlos Hurtado finished 2-5 with his first career home run. He also drove in two more runs on a groundout in the 8th and a double in the 10th. Abraham Castillo went 2-4 with an RBI single in the 2nd and Rolando Espinosa also had two hits on Thursday. Sebastian Grullón tied the game with a pinch-hit RBI single in the 9th.

Alfredi Jimenez allowed three runs on four hits, walked two, and struck out three in 2.1 innings. Franny Cobos was the first man out of the DSL bullpen and he allowed one hit while striking out three in 4.2 scoreless innings. Jherson Pereira went two innings and allowed three runs (one earned, one inherited runner charged to hin) on four hits, walked one, and struck out two. Flaer Gonzalez allowed two runs of his own on two hits and walked two after taking ownership of the 10th inning.

The Academy will take on the A's again at 11:30 Atlantic.

The Grizzlies scored twice in the opening inning, but unfortunately, that was all the offensive output they could muster up on Monday.

A.J. Reed hit an RBI single to open the scoring and one batter later, Kyle Tucker scored when Nick Tanielu grounded into a force out. Drew Ferguson finished 3-4 and scored the game's first run, while Jon Kemmer went 2-4.

Mike Hauschild went seven innings and allowed four runs on nine hits, walked two, and struck out three. Reymin Guduan allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out three over two scoreless innings.

Rogelio Armenteros will take on Kris Medlen in game two of this series. First pitch is at 6:35 Pacific.

Frisco 7, Corpus Christi 3

The latest iteration of the Lone Star Series in the Texas League went to Frisco.

Jamie Ritchie drove in all three Corpus Christi runs in this game; he ripped an RBI double in the 5th and added a two-run triple to his ledger in the 9th. Stephen Wrenn went 2-3 with a double, a stolen base (13), and scored twice.

Alex Winkelman and Framber Valdez both pitched four innings. Winkelman allowed five runs on seven hits (three-run homer), walked two, and struck out six. Framber allowed two runs on a double, one other hit, walked two, and struck out five.

The Hooks are back home and they'll begin a three-game series with Springfield at 7:05. Ryan Hartman is scheduled to get the start for Corpus.

Buies Creek 4, Winston-Salem 1

BC home runs: None.

It was a two-man game at the plate and on the mound for the Carolina Stros. Troy Sieber and Kristian Trompiz were responsible for the offensive production, while Abdiel Saldaña and Jorge Alcala were locked in on the mound.

Abraham Toro (2B, 2 R), Sieber, and Trompiz all finished with two hits on the evening. Sieber hit RBI singles in the 1st and the 5th, while Trompiz had a two-run single in the 3rd. Everyone in the Buies Creek lineup recorded a hit.

Abdiel Saldaña allowed a run on two hits and struck out four in five innings. Jorge Alcala finished it off by allowing a hit, walking one, and striking out seven over the last four innings.

Hector Perez will start game two for Buies Creek and he'll go up against Jimmy Lambert at 7:00 Eastern.

Wisconsin 2, Quad Cities 1

Both teams scored in one inning, but the Timber Rattlers scored more in the inning in which they scored.

Quad Cities' lone scoring play came in the 5th when Jake Meyers ripped an RBI double. Meyers and Jonathan Arauz both had two hits out of the top of the order and both of them had a double. Arauz snapped a string of four straight hitless games, so he's looking to get himself back on track.

Yohan Ramirez went five innings and allowed two runs, both coming on solo home runs, six hits, and struck out three in five innings. Cristian Javier mowed down the Rattlers over the last four innings as he allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out nine.

Game two of this series features Leovanny Rodriguez on the mound as he'll be making his first start of 2018. He'll face Dylan File at 11:00 AM.

Fresno home runs: Jon Kemmer (6, solo in 5th)

The Tacos were foiled in their bid to sweep the series as the Bees got a couple of runs in the final two innings to eke out the victory.

Rogelio Armenteros allowed a run on two hits, walked two, and struck out eight in 5.2 innings. Buddy Boshers was the first man out of the Fresno bullpen; he got the last out of the 6th and two outs in the 7th, working around a hit to do so. Brendan McCurry allowed a run on two hits and struck out one in 1.1 innings, and James Hoyt allowed what turned out to be the winning run in the 9th. The run was unearned; Hoyt allowed a couple of hits, walked two, and struck out two.

Jon Kemmer put the Tacos on the board when he led off the 5th with a home run/ Tyler White drove in the other Fresno run with a single in the 7th. He and Kyle Tucker both finished 2-4 on the afternoon.

Josh James will start the first of a four-game series in El Paso. He'll face Chris Huffman at 6:35 Mountain.

Corpus Christi 5, San Antonio 4

CC home runs: None.

The Hooks scored in just one inning, but they erased a 4-0 deficit and snatched a victory from the jaws of defeat in the process. Omar Lopez got tossed just before the 6th inning got underway, presumably over whether Myles Straw got picked off in the 5th. Either that, or he was not pleased with the called third strike on Stephen Wrenn to end the 5th.

Alex Winkelman allowed three runs on five hits (solo homer), walked two, and struck out two in four innings of work. Carlos Sierra pitched the 5th and allowed a solo homer to Fernando Tatis, who homered off Winkelman to start the game. That was the only hit that Sierra allowed in his first inning in AA; he also issued a walk and struck out the side. Cionel Perez shined after tagging in, allowing just one hit and striking out six over four scoreless innings to get the win.

Corpus did nothing of note on offense in the first six innings, so let's move on to the 7th.

Randy César kicked things off by drawing a walk. He moved to second on a Ryne Birk single and scored the Hooks' first run when Lorenzo Quintana ripped a double. Alex De Goti followed with a two-run single to cut the Missions' lead to 4-3. Straw went down for the first out of the inning, but Wrenn kept things going with a single, and the ensuing error allowed him to move to third while De Goti dashed home with the tying run. Carmen Benedetti capped off the rally with an RBI single to put Corpus in front. Straw, De Goti, and Josh Rojas all finished with two hits on the night. Straw and Rojas also stole a base; Straw has expanded his lead on Rojas a bit as he continues to set the pace in the system in terms of stolen bases. He's now up 23-16 on Rojas.

Framber Valdez faces Jerry Keel in game 3 of this series. First pitch is at 7:05.

Buies Creek 3, Winston-Salem 1

BC home runs: None.

Both teams only had one scoring inning apiece, but the Carolina Stros scored more runs in their inning, so they won. I like it when baseball is simple like that.

Buies Creek's three runs all came in the 6th as they strung four straight one-out hits together. Alfredo Angarita and Ronnie Dawson started the chain, and then Abraham Toro brought Angarita home with a single and J.J. Matijevic smacked a double to score Dawson. Toro scored the final run of the evening on a Chas McCormick sac fly. No one on either team finished with a multi-hit game; Angarita also stole a base, his 5th of the season.

Jorge Alcala and Abdiel Saldaña kept the Winston-Salem offense in check, holding the Dash to just four hits in this game. Alcala allowed a run on a groundout, a single, walked two, and struck out eight in five innings. Saldaña allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out four in four innings.

Cedar Rapids 6, Quad Cities 5

The Kernels got runs in the 7th and the 8th to break a 4-4 tie in their favor. Quad Cities got to within one run in the 9th but couldn't get a rally started outside of Miguelangel Sierra's home run.

Jake Meyers doubled to lead off the game and scored the first run of the night on Ruben Castro's groundout. Jonathan Lacroix whacked an RBI double in the 2nd and ended up scoring from there on a wild pitch. Lacroix added an RBI single to his ledger in the 6th. Sierra's home run in the 9th came with two outs and he was the only man to reach base for Quad Cities in the final inning. Sierra and Lacroix both finished with two hits on the night; Lacroix reached in all four of his plate appearances as he also drew a couple of walks.

Yohan Ramirez went 3.2 innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits (two-run homer), walked four, and struck out four. Tanner Duncan tagged in for 3.1 innings and allowed a run on two hits, walked one, and struck out two. Dariel Aquino allowed a solo homer to Jose Miranda in the 8th, which was the only hit he surrendered in the inning. Aquino also issued a walk and struck out two.

The Banditos and Kernels will play a doubleheader on Wednesday as they will make up a game that was originally scheduled for April 8. Cristian Javier will take on Tyler Watson in game 1, which starts at 12:05. Luis Garcia will face Randy Dobnak in the nightcap, which will begin at 6:35.
