Fresno home runs: Jack Mayfield (6, 20 season; solo in 6th)

The Isotopes seized the momentum with a 5-run 8th to break a 2-2 tie.

Preston Tucker opened the scoring with a sac fly in the 1st inning, while Jack Mayfield launched a solo homer in the 6th that tied the game at 2. The Grizzlies could only get one run back following that big 8th inning from Albuquerque as Garrett Stubbs scored on a Rico Noel groundout in the 9th. Stubbs hit a couple of doubles in his 4 at-bats.

Kent Emanuel went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. Jacob Dorris was the first man out of the Fresno bullpen; he walked 1 and struck out 2 over 2 scoreless innings. Dayan Diaz bore the brunt of the Albuquerque assault in the 8th as he allowed the 5 runs on 6 hits; he also issued a walk and struck out 1.

Fresno will begin a 4-game series with Las Vegas at 7:05 Pacific. Cy Sneed makes his AAA debut on the final Taco Tuesday of the 2017 season and he'll take on Donovan Hand.

Corpus Christi was off

Cionel Perez makes his Texas League debut as the Hooks start a 3-game series in Tulsa at 7:05.

Lynchburg 3, Buies Creek 2

The Carolina Stros got nipped towards the end as the Hillcats scored a run in the bottom of the 8th after Buies Creek had tied the game at 2 with a run in the top of the 8th.

Yordan Alvarez went 2-3 and drove in both Buies Creek runs with a sac fly in the 1st and an RBI single in the 8th. Myles Straw (R, 2 SB), Randy César, and Carmen Benedetti also finished with 2 hits on the evening. Straw now has 35 stolen bases this season.

Matt Bower went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7. Erasmo Pinales threw 2 innings and allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1.

Elieser Hernandez goes up against Brock Hartson, a Pearland native, in game 2 of this series. First pitch is at 6:35 Eastern.

The Banditos snapped a little 3-game slide thanks to a solid night on the mound.

Kit Scheetz won his Midwest League debut with 6 strong innings; he allowed a run on 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. Lucas Williams allowed a hit, walked 2, and struck out 1 over 2 scoreless, and Devon Carr struck out the side in order to get the save.

Daz Cameron opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st inning. Chas McCormick legged out a bunt single in the 4th and Luis Payano followed by ripping a double. Marcos Almonte sent them both home with a double of his own. Payano went 2-4 and smacked a solo homer in the 6th for the final run of the evening.

Cristian Javier starts game 2. First pitch is at 6:35.

Tri-City is on its All-Star break

The 2017 New York-Penn League All-Star Game will take place on Tuesday; Tri-City will be hosting the event at Joe Bruno Stadium. The ValleyCats will be represented by Hunter Martin, Andy Piñeda, J.J. Matijevic, and Reggie Johnson. Martin replaced Nathan Thompson, who was just promoted to Quad Cities.

Kingsport 6, Greeneville 1

When a baseball team has more errors than base hits or runs (or both, even), they usually don't win very many games.

Gilberto Celestino walked to lead off the 3rd and scored the Appy Astros' only run on an error that allowed Patrick Mathis to reach.

Gerardo Bojorquez went 3 innings and allowed 5 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits (2-run homer), walked 1, and struck out 2. Jheyson Caraballo was the first man out of the Greeneville bullpen and allowed an unearned run on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3 in 5 innings. Juan Corniel allowed a hit and struck out 1 in a scoreless 9th.

Hansel Paulino goes up against Joe Cavallaro in the series finale. First pitch is at 11:30 AM Eastern.

GCL Nationals 7, GCL Astros 3

GCL home runs: Eduardo de Oleo (1, 6 season; 2-run in 8th)

Eduardo de Oleo was the Palm Beach Stros' offense in this game. He went 2-4 with an RBI single in the 6th and whacked a 2-run homer in the 8th. César Cortez also went 2-4 and scored a run.

Angel Heredia made his 2017 debut, allowing 2 hits and striking out 1 in a scoreless 1st. Freylin Garcia made his U.S. debut and went 4 innings, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits, walking 3, and striking out 2. Saul Martinez went 3.2 innings and allowed 2 runs; both were inherited runners that were charged to him. He also allowed 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2. Chauncey Nuñez got the last out of the 9th with a strikeout, but in addition to allowing both of the runners he inherited from Martinez to score, he allowed an unearned run and 2 hits.

The Cubs took control with 3 runs in the 5th. Fresno managed to threaten in the 8th, but couldn't push the tying run across.

The Grizz scored a pair in the 4th on a Jon Kemmer double; Kemmer wound up scoring on an error following a Max Stassi single. Jack Mayfield hit an RBI single in the 5th, and Drew Ferguson ripped an RBI double in the 8th. Mayfield finished 4-5 with a stolen base (2, 9 season).

David Martinez went 4.1 innings and allowed 4 runs (2 inherited runners charged to him) on 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. Jumbo Diaz got the last two outs of the 5th, but not before allowing a run of his own (in addition to Martinez's 2 runners scoring) on a bases-clearing double and walking 1. Jacob Dorris allowed a hit, walked 3, and struck out 3 over 2 scoreless, and Dayan Diaz worked around a hit and a couple of walks to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out 1.

Trent Thornton will start the first game of a 4-game set with El Paso. He'll face Michael Kelly at 7:05 Pacific.

Frisco 7, Corpus Christi 6

CC home runs: Jamie Ritchie (2, solo in 2nd)

The Hooks had to settle for a split as a late rally fell just short. Tough night in the field as a couple of Corpus errors in the 3rd turned into 3 Frisco runs.

Yoanys Quiala went 3.2 innings and allowed 4 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. Ryan Thompson was the first man out of the Corpus bullpen and went 2.2 innings, allowing a 2-run homer, one other hit, and striking out 1. Nick Hernandez got the last 1.2 innings and struck out 1; the one hit he allowed was a solo homer to Juremi Profar.

Jamie Ritchie had a huge night that started when he smacked a solo homer to open the scoring in the 2nd inning. He singled to lead off the 5th but was forced out at 2nd base. He ripped a one-out double in the 7th, advanced to 3rd on a balk, and scored on a wild pitch.

Ritchie completed the cycle with a bases-clearing triple in the 8th inning. He stumbled halfway between 2nd and 3rd, but the throw from the outfield went home first, which allowed him to narrowly get into 3rd base. He'd score on a Ryne Birk single that cut the deficit to one run. Kyle Tucker went 2-4 on the evening.

Corpus has Monday off, so they'll be able to catch up on some sleep on the bus ride back and they can sleep for a good part of the day after they arrive. They'll begin a 3-game series with Tulsa on Tuesday.

Buies Creek 9, Carolina 1

W- Hector Perez (6-4, 7-5 season)

BC home runs: None.

Hector Perez dominated and the Buies Creek offense dominated as they swept the road portion of this half-and-half series to take 3 of 4 from the Mudcats.

Perez allowed 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6 over 6 shutout frames. Carolina spoiled the shutout with a run-scoring groundout against Sebastian Kessay in the 9th. Kessay went 3 innings and allowed a double, walked 1, and struck out 5.

Yordan Alvarez opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st inning. Stephen Wrenn scored the other 1st-inning run on a double play. Buies Creek got a pair of RBI doubles in the 4th from Randy César and Carmen Benedetti. Rodrigo Ayarza ripped an RBI double of his own in the 6th.

If it wasn't a laugher by then, the Carolina Stros certainly turned it into one with 4 more runs in the 7th to push their lead to 9-0. Wrenn singled to lead off the inning and eventually came home when Anthony Hermelyn beat a double play attempt. César added an RBI single to his ledger, and then Benedetti ripped another RBI double. Anibal Sierra capped off the scoring with an RBI single.

César (2B, 2 RBI, 3 R) and Alvarez (RBI, R) both finished with 3 hits on the day. Wrenn (2 R) and Benedetti (2 2B, 2 RBI) both went 2-5.

Jorge Alcala will start the first in a 3-game series in Salem that starts Tuesday. He'll go up against Mike Shawaryn.

Quad Cities 6, Beloit 5

QC home runs: Chuckie Robinson (11, 2-run in 3rd)

Beloit thought that they forced extra innings with a pair of runs in the 9th to tie the game at 5.

Their presumption was incorrect.

Abdiel Saldaña turned in a bare minimum quality start (oops, I did it again), allowing 6 hits, walking 1, and striking out 7. Devon Carr allowed 2 hits and struck out 5 over 2 scoreless, and Jesús Balaguer allowed 2 runs on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1 in the 9th inning.

5 of the 6 Quad Cities runs came in the 3rd inning. Ronnie Dawson started it off by doubling to extend his hitting streak to 15 games. One batter later, Chuckie Robinson smacked a 2-run homer to open the scoring. It didn't take long for the Banditos to get some more traffic on the bases; Troy Sieber drew a walk and Abraham Toro-Hernandez singled to bring up Daz Cameron, who ripped a double that sent Sieber home. Josh Rojas followed with a sac fly. Daz advanced to 3rd on a fly ball out and scored on Luis Payano's single. This was Quad Cities' only scoring inning until the 9th.

Sieber hit a one-out single and advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch. Toro was the second out of the inning. Daz got a free pass to 1st, which brought Rojas to the plate, and he came through with the winning hit to bring Sieber in. Rojas finished 3-4 on the day, while Robinson (2-R HR) and Daz (2B, RBI, R) had 2 hits apiece.

Tri-City 9, Aberdeen 3

After the Ironbirds scored a pair in the top of the 5th to take a 3-2 lead, the ValleyCats responded with 2 in the bottom of the 5th to retake the lead and then they busted this game open with 5 after stretch time.

Matt Ruppenthal pitched 3 innings and allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 5, and struck out 4. Colin McKee was the first man out of the Tri-City bullpen and went 2 innings, allowing 2 runs (1 earned), an RBI single, walking 3, and striking out 4. Nathan Thompson allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 4 over 4 scoreless for the win.

Jonathan Arauz tripled to lead off the 2nd and scored the game's first run on a Kyle Davis sac fly. With two outs in the 4th, Andy Piñeda kept things going by reaching on an error that allowed him to advance to 2nd base. He then stole 3rd (12) and scored on a Bryan De La Cruz single. Mike Papierski's 2-run blast in the 5th gave Tri-City a 4-3 lead.

Papierski walked to begin the 7th, advanced to 3rd on a Jake Adams double, and scored on a single from Arauz. Kyle Davis walked to load the bases. Piñeda went down on the infield fly rule, but De La Cruz hit an RBI single to bring Adams home. Arauz scored on a wild pitch, and J.J. Matijevic capped off the evening with a 2-run single.

De La Cruz finished 3-5 on the afternoon, while Matijevic (2 RBI, SB) and Arauz (3B, RBI, 2 R) both finished with 2 hits.

Alex House will start the series finale. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

Greeneville 2, Burlington 1

The Appy Astros started a new series by walking off with a win.

Frankeny Fernandez opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 6th. It looked as though this game would head to extras after the Royals got two quick outs in the 9th, but Patrick Mathis had other ideas. He singled to keep the game alive and moved to 3rd on a Gilberto Celesino single. Celestino moved to 2nd on defensive indifference, and then Mathis scored the winning run on an error. Celestino extended his hitting streak to 9 games with the single.

Humberto Castellanos allowed 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4 over 5.1 shutout innings. Johsson Arias allowed an unearned run on a sac fly in the 7th, a double, walked 2, and struck out 3 in 2.2 innings. Ian Hardman worked around a couple of walks to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out 1.

Leovanny Rodriguez goes up against Nathan Webb in game 2 of this series. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

The Palm Beach Stros couldn't quite claw their way back from a 7-2 deficit.

Juan Pablo Lopez allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3 in 5 innings. Devin Raftery pitched the 6th and allowed 4 unearned runs on 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2. Nivaldo Rodriguez allowed a run on 2 hits, one of which was a solo homer, walked 1, and struck out 2 in 3 innings of work.

Ozziel Sanchez-Galan opened the scoring with an RBI double in the 3rd inning and advanced to 3rd base on the throw from the outfield. He would end up scoring on a passed ball. Vicente Sanchez led off the 6th by legging out a bunt single and scored thanks to three consecutive wild pitches. Jonathan Matute, who was in the batter's box the at the time, ended up drawing a walk. César Cortez drew a walk and they both advanced on another wild pitch. Matute scored on an Enmanuel Valdez groundout, while Cortez scored on the fifth wild pitch of the inning. Wander Franco ripped an RBI double in the 8th. Sanchez-Galan (2B, RBI, 2 R) and Carlos Machado both finished with 2 hits on the day.

Fresno 11, El Paso 5

Fresno home runs: A.J. Reed (11, 3-run in 5th), Tony Kemp (3, solo in 6th), Colin Moran (12, solo in 9th)

The Grizz stormed out to a 6-0 lead after the 1st inning, which gave them enough of a cushion to withstand El Paso scoring 5 runs in the 5th (3) and the 6th (2).

Tony Kemp and Tyler White led off the game with singles and Preston Tucker joined them on the bases after drawing a walk. Colin Moran opened the scoring by sending them all home with a double. Moran moved to 3rd on an A.J. Reed single and scored on a Juan Centeno single. Reed came home on a double from Teoscar Hernandez. The homers represented the last five Fresno runs: Reed launched a 3-run blast in the 5th, Kemp smacked a solo shot in the 6th, and Moran capped off the evening with a solo homer in the 9th.

Kemp (solo HR, 2 R), White (R), Moran (solo HR, 4 RBI, 3 R), and Reed (3-R HR, 2 R) all had 2 hits on the night. Reed homered in all three games of this series.

Mike Hauschild went 5.2 innings and allowed 5 runs on 7 hits (solo and 3-run homers), walked 2, and struck out 5. Aaron West got the final out of the 6th without incident. Ashur Tolliver, Kevin Comer, and Reymin Guduan all pitched a scoreless inning: Tolliver allowed a hit and struck out 2 in the 7th, Comer allowed 2 hits and struck out 1 in the 8th, and Guduan allowed a hit and struck out 2 in the 9th.

Albuquerque will be the final stop on the Grizzlies' longest roadtrip of the season. Casey Coleman starts game 1 against Thad Weber at 7:05 Mountain.

San Antonio 4, Corpus Christi 2

The Hooks managed to mount a little uprising in the late innings but ultimately couldn't complete the comeback.

Arturo Michelena put Corpus on the board with an RBI single in the 8th. Corpus had the bases loaded with nobody out in the 9th, but all they could get was one run when J.D. Davis scored on a Garrett Stubbs GIDP.

Alex Winkelman allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 3 in 4.1 innings. Kent Emanuel followed by striking out 2 in 3.2 perfect innings.

Rogelio Armenteros takes the mound as Corpus looks to get on the board in this edition of the I-37 rivalry. He'll face Kyle Lloyd at 7:05.

Buies Creek 4, Wilmington 0

The Carolina Stros earned the split with a shutout on Sunday.

After hitting a rough patch following a DL stint, Franklin Perez got himself back in the saddle by allowing 2 hits, walking 2, and striking out 6 over 5 shutout frames. Devon Carr allowed 3 hits and struck out 1 in 3 innings, and Nick Hernandez worked around a couple of walks in the 9th to complete the shutout, striking out 1.

Myles Straw and Ryne Birk had 2 hits and drove in 2 runs apiece: Straw had a pair of RBI singles in the 5th and the 9th, while Birk smacked a 2-run homer in the 5th. Pat Porter finished 2-3 with a double and scored 2 of their 4 runs.

Buies Creek's roadtrip continues with a stop in Potomac, Maryland, for a 3-game set with the Nationals. Brett Adcock gets the call in game 1 and he'll face Nolan Sanburn at 7:05 Pacific.

Quad Cities will look for the sweep as Ronel Blanco takes the hill. He'll face Zack Erwin at 7:00.

Jon Singleton put Fresno on the board with a solo homer in the 2nd inning. Tyler White and Danny Worth also launched solo homers in the 3rd and the 4th, respectively. D.J. Fisher hit a sac fly in the 6th and added an RBI single to his ledger in the 8th.

Two walks and an error loaded the bases for Colin Moran in the 9th inning, and he came through with a 2-run single. Singleton grounded into a force out that erased Moran from the basepaths, but he was able to reach and advanced to 2nd on defensive indifference. Fisher whacked a 3-run home run to cut the deficit to 2 runs, but one batter later, Jack Mayfield grounded out to end the game.

Fisher (3-R HR, 5 RBI), Worth (solo HR, 2 R), and Jon Kemmer (2 2B, 2 R) all finished with 2 hits in the game, while Moran went 3-5 with the 2-run single and scored a run.

Eury De La Rosa went 1.1 innings and allowed 5 runs (3 inherited runners charged to him) on 4 hits and walked 1. Chris Cotton was the first man out of the Fresno bullpen, and he was out there the longest. In 2.2 innings, he allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits (2-run homer) and walked 2. Aaron West allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and struck out 2 in the 5th. Albert Minnis was next, and he recorded a strikeout over 2 perfect innings. Reymin Guduan pitched the 8th inning and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits (solo homer), walked 2, and struck out 2, and Jandel Gustave retired the side in order in the 9th inning; he got 3 groundball outs.

The Hooks stayed alive by scoring a run in the bottom of the 10th to tie the game, but the Hounds quickly broke the tie with 3 in the top of the 11th, and Corpus couldn't mount a response.

J.D. Davis opened the scoring with a solo home run in the 2nd inning. Drew Ferguson led off the 10th with a double and scored the other Hooks run on an error following a fielder's choice hit by James Ramsay. Davis and Ferguson had two hits apiece in this game.

Trent Thornton went 7 innings, and the one run he allowed came on a solo home run hit by J.P. Sportman in the 4th inning. He allowed 4 other hits and struck out 7. Michael Freeman got a strikeout in a 1-2-3 8th inning. Kyle Smith pitched 2+ innings and allowed 4 runs (2 inherited runners charged to him) on 4 hits (solo homer in 10th) and struck out 4. Jacob Dorris took ownership of the 11th, and while he struck out 2 and did not allow any runs of his own, the two runners that he inherited from Smith both scored on a double, which was the only hit that he allowed.

The JetHawks had a nice start, but they were kept off the scoreboard for the final 8 innings.

Osvaldo Duarte's 2-run homer in the 1st was Lancaster's only scoring play and their only extra-base hit of the game. Trent Woodward finished 2-3.

Brock Dykxhoorn went 6 innings, and the 2 runs he allowed came on a homer hit by Jose Cardona. He allowed 4 other hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. Alex Winkelman pitched 2 innings and allowed 4 runs (all in the 8th) on 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 1. Scott Weathersby walked 1 and struck out 1 in a scoreless 9th.

Tonight, the JetHawks will begin a 3-game weekend series in Modesto. Elieser Hernandez will face Ryan Castellani at 7:05 Pacific.

Cedar Rapids 12, Quad Cities 2

The Banditos were swept out of Cedar Rapids to finish up a disastrous series. They were outscored 21-4 in this series and head back home on a 6-game losing streak.

Kristian Trompiz scored Quad Cities' first run on a wild pitch in the 8th, and Jake Rogers ripped an RBI double in the 9th inning, Hector Roa went 2-4; he doubled and scored on Rogers' hit.

Hector Perez went 3.1 innings and allowed 7 runs (4 earned, 3 inherited runners charged to him) on 5 hits, walked 4, and struck out 5. Adam Whitt was the first man out; he pitched 2.2 innings and allowed 5 runs (3 earned, 1 inherited runner charged to him) on 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. Sebastian Kessay allowed a hit and struck out 3; he inherited 2 runners from Whitt, and one of them scored.

Enrique Chavez will start the first of a 4-game series with Wisconsin at 7:00. He'll be opposed by Jordan Yamamoto.

The ValleyCats picked up a crucial series win to give them some momentum for the home stretch.

Ryan Hartman pitched 4 scoreless innings, allowing a hit and striking out 1. Howie Brey allowed a run on 2 hits and struck out 1 in the 5th inning, and Austin Nicely pitched the final 4 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits (solo homer), walking 1, and striking out 1.

Rodrigo Ayarza singled to lead off the 4th and scored the first run of the game on a double from Carmen Benedetti. Ronnie Dawson brought Benedetti home with an RBI single. Benedetti added an RBI single to his ledger in the 5th, and Ayarza hit an RBI single in the 7th. Benedetti (2B, 2 RBI, R) and Marcos Almonte (SB) both finished 2-5, while Ayarza went 3-5 with 2 stolen bases (2). Almonte now has 5 stolen bases with Tri-City and 13 on the season.

Tonight, Tri-City will begin a 3-game series with Lowell at 7:00 Eastern. Jorge Alcala will make his Tri-City debut, and he'll take on Darwinzon Hernandez.

A 6-run 4th inning propelled the Appy Astros to the win on Thursday.

Stijn van der Meer singled to lead off the bottom of the 1st, advanced to 2nd on a passed ball, and scored the first run of the evening on a double from Abraham Toro. Troy Sieber followed with an RBI double of his own.

Carlos Machado led off the big 4th inning with a single, and Chaz Pal joined him on the bases with a single. Oscar Campos laid down a sacrifice bunt to move them over, and Machado ended up scoring on a wild pitch. Pal moved to 3rd and came home on a van der Meer single. Van der Meer stole 2nd, and Frankeny Fernandez joined him on the bases after getting plunked. Fernandez got forced out, but Toro took his spot, and Sieber drew a walk to load the bases for Reiny Beltre, who promptly cleared them with a triple. Toro added a sac fly to his line in the 5th, and Fernandez whacked a solo homer in the 7th inning.

Van der Meer (RBI, 2 R, SB), Toro (2B, 2 RBI, 2 R, SB), Sieber (2 2B, RBI, 2 R), and Machado (R, SB) all finished with 2 hits in the game.

Ben Smith went 2 innings and allowed a run on a pop-fly single, walked 3, and struck out 1. Devon Carr followed by striking out 3 over 3 perfect innings. Cristian Javier allowed a run on a sac fly in the 6th, walked 2, and struck out 2; one of his strikeout victims reached base. Dariel Aquino got the final out of the 6th with a strikeout and pitched the 7th inning, where he allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits and walked 2. Lucas Williams pitched the final 2 innings and allowed a run on 3 hits.

In the series finale, Jorge Guzman will face Jhon Martinez. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

Jose Benjamin opened the scoring with an RBI double in the 4th inning. Nestor Muriel hit an RBI groundout in the 9th for the other GCL Astros run. Gilberto Celestino finished 2-3 with a run scored and 3 stolen bases (6, 15 season). Benjamin also had 2 hits, and he stole 2 bases on the day, giving him 5 with the Kissimmee Stros and 13 on the season.

Felipe Tejada walked 2 and struck out 2 over 3 scoreless innings. César Rosado also pitched 3 innings, but he allowed 3 runs on 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2. Hansel Paulino allowed a run on 2 hits in 2 innings, and Ian Hardman allowed a run on 2 hits and struck out 2 in the 9th.
