The E-Train came out on top of this slugfest as eight of their twelve hits went for extra bases.

Derek Fisher opened the scoring with a two-run blast in the 1st inning. Nick Tanielu scored when Jamie Ritchie grounded into a double play in the 2nd. Round Rock got four in the 5th as Jack Mayfield ripped a two-run double and then he came around to score when Taylor Jones launched a home run. Alex De Goti lashed an RBI double in the 6th and Mayfield brought him in with his second double of the night. Tanielu capped off the evening with an RBI double in the 7th.

All three of Tanielu's hits were doubles. Mayfield also had three hits on the night; two of his were doubles. Jones and De Goti had two hits apiece.

Ryan Hartman went four innings and allowed five runs on eight hits (three solo homers), walked two, and struck out four. Colin McKee was the first man out of the Round Rock bullpen and he allowed three runs on three hits, walked three, and struck out two in 1.2 innings. Ralph Garza Jr. was next; he allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out in 1.1 innings. Dean Deetz allowed a hit, walked two, and struck out three over two scoreless to get the save.

Corpus Christi 18, Northwest Arkansas 6

The Hooks led 7-6 entering the 8th. And then they turned it up to 11. Sorry, I'll delete it later. With that 11-run 8th, Corpus turned this game into a laugher and earned the sweep in this series.

Everyone in the lineup scored at least one run. Stephen Wrenn went 0-4 but he still managed to score a couple of runs and stole a base (19).

Brett Adcock went five innings and allowed three runs on six hits, walked three, and struck out six. Tommy DeJuneas got two innings and he allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits, walked one, and struck out three. Erasmo Pinales and Andre Scrubb both pitched a scoreless inning; Pinales allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out two in the 8th, and Scrubb, in his first appearance as a member of the Astros organization, walked one and struck out two in the 9th.

The Hooks will begin a series in Springfield tonight at 6:10. Yohan Ramirez will take on Johan Oviedo in game one.

Fayetteville 3, Carolina 0

The Woodpeckers got virtuoso performances from their pitchers as they opened this series with a victory.

J.P. France allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out nine over seven shutout innings and Riley Cabral struck out all six batters he faced to earn the save.

All three Fayetteville runs came in the 5th as Miguelangel Sierra hit a sac fly and Enmanuel Valdez and Jonathan Arauz ripped RBI doubles. Scott Manea finished 2-3.

Shawn Dubin goes up against Matt Smith in game two of this series. First pitch is at 6:00 Eastern.

Peoria 7, Quad Cities 6

Quad Cities' comeback bid fell just short.

César Salazar put the Banditos on the board with an RBI double in the 4th inning and Grae Kessinger hit an RBI single in the 7th. Salazar walked to lead off the bottom of the 9th and he scored on a single from Trey Dawson. One batter later, Carlos Machado clubbed a three-run home run to cut the deficit to one run. Unfortunately, that was as close as they could get. Everyone in the lineup recorded a hit; Salazar and Machado had two apiece.

José Bravo went four innings and allowed five runs on eight hits, walked one, and struck out six. Hunter Martin was the first man out of the Quad Cities bullpen and he allowed two runs on three hits, walked one, and struck out two in 2.1 innings; both runs were inherited runners that scored. Devin Conn didn't allow any runs of his own in 2.2 innings, but the runners he inherited from Martin both scored. Conn allowed three hits and struck out four.

Lupe Chavez will take the mound as the Banditos open up a series in Beloit. He'll take on Rafael Kelly at 6:30.

Tri-City 3, Connecticut 2

TC home runs: None.

The Tigers got two in the top of the 6th to tie the game at 2, but the ValleyCats were able to regain control as they got one of those runs back in the bottom half.

Nathan Perry hit a two-run single in the 1st and Juan Paulino scored on a passed ball in the 6th. Paulino finished 3-4 on the night; he scored two of Tri-City's three runs in this one and also stole a base (8). Perry, Preston Pavlica, and Luis Guerrero all had two hits in this game.

Ronel Blanco threw two perfect innings to start, striking out one. Valente Bellozo took over for four innings and he allowed two runs on four hits, walked one, and struck out six. Juan Pablo Lopez allowed one hit, walked one, and struck out four over the last three innings to earn the save.

Tri-City and Connecticut will continue this series at 7:00 Eastern.

There was only one run in this game and it did not belong to the Palm Beach 'Stros.

Sean Mendoza had two of the GCLstros' three hits in this one.

Kevin Holcomb and Heitor Tokar both pitched four innings; Holcomb allowed the game's only run on three hits and struck out three and Tokar allowed three hits while striking out one in a scoreless outing.

The Dominican 'Stros scored 13 runs in six innings and they withstood a six-run 9th from the A's to win this game.

Ricardo Toro (3B, 3 RBI), Yohander Martinez (2 RBI, 3 R), and Sebastian Grullón (3B, 3 R) all finished with three hits on the day.

Fabricio Reina got the win; he pitched 2.2 innings and allowed an unearned run on three hits, walked four, and struck out three.

Fayetteville sweep!

The Dodgers went off for five in the 4th to bust this open.

Framber Valdez pitched three innings and allowed two hits, one of which was a two-run double, walked two, and struck out seven. Tanner Duncan and Justin Ferrell pitched two innings apiece with contrasting results. Duncan bore the brunt of OKC's big 4th as he allowed those five runs on four hits (three-run homer), walked two, and struck out three. On the other hand, Ferrell allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out three in a scoreless outing. Brendan McCurry worked around a walk to throw a scoreless 8th, striking out two.

Alex De Goti hit an RBI double in the 2nd to open the scoring. This would be Round Rock's last scoring play until the 9th; meanwhile, the Dodgers took a commanding lead. Nick Tanielu ripped an RBI double in the 9th and De Goti brought him in with a single. Tanielu went 3-4 on the night and both of De Goti's hits drove in runs.

Brandon Bielak will take the mound as the E-Train looks to avoid a sweep. He'll go against Dennis Santana at 1:05.

Corpus Christi 10, Midland 0

Two debuting pitchers made quite the first impression on their new club.

Chad Donato, a product of Cypress Woods High School, was a winner in his Texas League debut and he did so in dominating fashion, allowing two hits, walking two, and striking out a season-high ten over 6.2 shutout innings. Leovanny Rodríguez, also making his Texas League debut, completed the shutout by allowing two hits and striking out three over the final 2.1 innings.

Seth Beer opened the scoring by poking an RBI single through the right side of the infield in the 3rd inning. J.J. Matijevic opened the 4th with a single and he wound up scoring on a botched pickoff attempt. Aníbal Sierra ripped an RBI double later in the inning. Sierra added a two-run single in the 6th and Abraham Toro added an RBI single later in the frame. Colton Shaver provided the cherry in the 8th when he clubbed a grand slam. Toro went 4-5 on the evening. He was the only person in the Corpus lineup who didn't score a run, but he set the pace in the hit department. Sierra finished 3-4 while Lorenzo Quintana and J.J. Matijevic had two hits apiece.

Brandon Bailey will take on Brian Howard in the series finale. First pitch is at 4:15.

Fayetteville 6, Winston-Salem 2

The Woodpeckers pulled away in the middle innings to earn a series sweep on the road.

J.P. France turned in a solid outing as he allowed two runs on six hits (solo homer), walked two, and struck out three in six innings of work. Yeremi Ceballos closed it out by striking out three over three perfect innings.

Fayetteville had two men in scoring position in the 3rd and they turned that situation into three runs. Corey Julks opened the scoring with an RBI single and then Scott Manea followed with a sac fly and Enmanuel Valdez hit an RBI single. Manea ripped an RBI double in the 5th and Chandler Taylor smacked a two-run double in the 6th.

Both of Taylor's hits in this game were doubles. Valdez also finished with two hits on the night and Peña went 3-4 with two stolen bases and two runs scored. The stolen bags were his first two in the Carolina League and he now has 19 on the season.

The Woodpeckers will start a three-game series in Potomac at 6:05 Eastern.

Cedar Rapids 3, Quad Cities 0

W- Andrew Cabezas (3-5)
L- Matt Ruppenthal (3-3)

QC home runs: None.

The Banditos held the Kernels to four hits in this one. Problem is... they only had one hit and they were kept off the scoreboard.

David Hensley broke up Andrew Cabezas' no-hit bid with a two-out single in the 7th.

Matt Ruppenthal went 5.2 innings and allowed three runs on four hits (two-run homer), walked three, and struck out seven. Hansel Paulino walked two and fanned three over the final 3.1 innings.

José Bravo takes on Kai-wei Teng in game two of this series. First pitch is at 5:15.

Tri-City and Hudson Valley was postponed

Due to rain. This game will be made up on August 8 during the ValleyCats' next trip to Hudson Valley.

Blair Henley, who was scheduled to start this game, will now start the opener of a three-game series against Brooklyn. First pitch is at 5:00 Eastern.

GCL Astros 3, GCL Mets 2 (10 innings)

The Palm Beach 'Stros got a run in the first extra frame to nip the Mets. After an 0-6 start, they've won five of their last six games.

No pitcher worked three innings in this one. Kevin Holcomb started things off by allowing a hit and striking out one in two innings. Elián Rodríguez and Heitor Tokar followed with 2.2 innings apiece; Rodríguez allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits (solo homer), walked two, and struck out three, while Tokar allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out four. Chandler Casey and Jherson Pereira threw 1.1 innings each. Casey allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out one and Pereira struck out two in a perfect outing.

Abraham Castillo hit a two-run single in the 7th to tie the game at 2. Yeuris Ramírez started off the 10th in scoring position. Castillo drew a walk and Sean Mendoza reached on a bunt single to load the bases for Franklin Pinto, who put the Astros in front with a sac fly. They couldn't get anything else, but that sac fly turned out to be enough.

The Dominican 'Stros broke this game open with three in the 6th and held the Rays to two hits.

José Nodal allowed an unearned run on an error, a hit, and struck out five in four innings. Juan De Los Santos walked two in two scoreless innings. Danny Subero pitched an inning and he walked five while striking out two; he pitched in the 8th but didn't record an out. Luis Vega allowed a hit and struck out three over the final two innings after taking ownership of the 8th inning.

Carlos Hurtado smacked a solo homer in the 4th to tie the game at 1. Omar Díaz and Yohander Martinez led off the 6th with singles and Hurtado brought them both in to put the Dominican 'Stros in front. Hurtado advanced to second on a balk and he came around to score on Miguel Palma's single. Hurtado and Palma both finished with two hits on the day.

The E-Train started off with a bang and then had to stave off a late rally to get the win on Sunday.

Brandon Bielak turned in a bare minimum quality start, allowing seven hits (two-run homer) and walking four. Kit Scheetz was the first man out of the Round Rock bullpen and he allowed a solo homer, walked one, and struck out two in two innings. Felipe Paulino allowed two hits, one of which was a two-run homer, and struck out one in the 9th.

Kyle Tucker put the Express on the board with a grand slam in the 1st inning. A.J. Reed hit an RBI single in the 4th and then homered to lead off the 7th inning. Alex De Goti added an RBI single later in the 7th. Reed finished 3-4 on the night.

Framber Valdez will face Zach Lovvorn in game three of this series. First pitch is at 7:05.

Amarillo 11, Corpus Christi 6

The Hooks scored first, but the Sod Poodles went off and buried them with five in the 4th to take a 9-2 lead.

Carson LaRue was roughed up in his 3.2 innings and I'll leave it at that. Carlos Sanabria got the final out of the 4th and two outs in the 5th, all via strikeout; he allowed two runs (one earned), a hit, and walked three in the process. Colin McKee walked one and struck out one in 1.1 innings, and Riley Ferrell allowed a hit and struck out two over two scoreless. Ferrell was making his first appearance since being returned to the organization from the Marlins, who selected him in the Rule 5 draft in the offseason.

Bryan de la Cruz led off the game with a homer and Ronnie Dawson scored on a wild pitch later in the 1st. Osvaldo Duarte led off the 5th with a homer and Abraham Toro launched a solo shot in the 7th. De La Cruz went 3-5 on the evening and also smacked a two-run double in the 8th.

The Hooks will start a three-game series in Frisco at 7:05. Brandon Bailey will face Edgar Arredondo.

Fayetteville 8, Myrtle Beach 4

One swing of the bat swung the momentum of this game in Fayetteville's favor.

J.P. France went five innings and allowed two hits, one of which was a solo homer, walked one, and struck out four. Jojanse Torres and Jacob Billingsley pitched two innings apiece with varying results. Torres didn't have his best stuff as he allowed three runs on three hits (two-run homer) and walked three. Billingsley struck out three in a perfect outing to earn the save.

The Woodpeckers got on the board first in the 1st thanks to a pair of sac flies from Corey Julks and Jake Adams. Jonathan Arauz led off the 2nd with a homer.

Chandler Taylor thought that he had a grand slam in the 5th and apparently the ball looked to have landed in fair territory, but it was ruled foul, he struck out, he wasn't happy, and his night ended early after he was... ordered to leave the game.

Fayetteville got their slam in the 7th when Adams sent one out onto the berm in left field. Scott Manea capped off the evening with a sac fly in the 8th.

Quad Cities and Clinton was suspended

Due to rain. Currently, it's a 0-0 ballgame with two outs in the bottom of the 7th.

Brett Daniels allowed three hits, walked five, and struck out seven over 5.2 shutout innings. Layne Henderson got the final out of the 6th with a groundball and then struck out the first two men he faced in the 7th.

Alex McKenna's single is currently Quad Cities' only hit in this game.

This game will be completed today at 5:00 and then the regularly scheduled game, which will last nine innings, will follow. Matt Ruppenthal was originally slated to face Albert Guerrero in the regularly scheduled game.

Tri-City 5, Aberdeen 3

The ValleyCats pounded out a season-high 14 hits to take the series.

Grae Kessinger opened the scoring with an RBI double in the 3rd and he came around to score on Zach Biermann's double. Aberdeen took the lead with a two-run double in the top of the 5th but Tri-City took control with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 5th on an Andrés Santana RBI infield single and a double from Kessinger. Luis Santana singled in the 6th and an error on the play allowed A.J. Lee to score. A.J. Lee finished 3-3, stealing a base and scoring three times. Luis Santana went 3-4, while Andrés Santana and Kessinger had two hits apiece.

Cole McDonald, Manny Ramirez, Hansel Paulino all pitched two innings. McDonald, in his Tri-City debut, allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out three. Ramirez allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits, walked three, and struck out two. Paulino struck out four in a perfect outing, and Julio Robaina allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out four over the final three innings to earn the save.

Jayson Schroeder will start the first of a three-game series in Staten Island. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

The Express got held in check on Sunday to slow down their recent rampage.

Corbin Martin went three innings and allowed four runs on seven hits, walked two, and struck out three. Ronel Blanco was the first man out of the Round Rock bullpen and he allowed five hits, one of which was a two-run homer. Blanco also walked one and struck out three in his 2.2 innings of work. Ralph Garza Jr. allowed a hit and fanned four over the final 2.1 innings.

Kyle Tucker opened the scoring by whacking a solo home run in the 1st inning. Round Rock got two more in the opening frame thanks to a Drew Ferguson sac fly and a Nick Tanielu single. Taylor Jones ripped an RBI double in the 3rd and A.J. Reed led off the 9th with a homer that cut the Bees' lead to one run. Tucker, Jones, and Aníbal Sierra all finished with two hits on the afternoon.

Brandon Bielak will start the series finale and he'll take on Matt Sandoval at 1:05 Mountain.

The Hooks, doing business as the Raspas like they do every Sunday, had nothing going for them on offense. As a result, they had to settle for the split and they couldn't take sole possession of first place in the Texas League South. All four teams are separated by one game.

Chas McCormick doubled and drew a couple of walks.

Brett Adcock went four innings and allowed six runs (four earned) on five hits, walked one, and struck out two. Layne Henderson struck out one in a 1-2-3 5th, and Enoli Paredes threw four perfect innings in his Texas League debut, striking out five.

Corpus Christi has Monday off as they embark on their last roadtrip of the first half. The first leg begins on Tuesday with the opener of a three-game series against the Arkansas Travelers.

Wilmington 5, Fayetteville 3

Well, they didn't lose in walk-off fashion, but the Woodpeckers got burned by another late rally from the Blue Rocks. Wilmington scored three in the bottom of the 8th to take the lead in this one.

J.P. France allowed two runs on three hits, walked two, and struck out four in six innings of work. César Rosado threw a scoreless 7th but everything unraveled on him in the 8th as he only got one out and left the bases for Leovanny Rodríguez, who couldn't get him out of the predicament. Rosado allowed a hit, walked two, struck out two, and all three of the runners that Leovanny inherited were all charged to him. Leovanny got the last two outs of the 8th, one via strikeout, but not before he allowed a go-ahead bases-clearing double.

Fayetteville's three runs came via the solo homer. Bryan de la Cruz led off the game with one, Marty Costes smacked one in the 4th, and Michael Papierski went deep to lead off the 6th. Papierski, Costes, and Jonathan Arauz all finished 2-4.

The Woodpeckers will start a three-game set with Myrtle Beach at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 5, Kane County 3

The Banditos' bats came alive after a rain delay. Also, Cedar Rapids' split in their doubleheader with Peoria resulted in the Banditos clinching a playoff berth. Their magic number to clinch the division is now down to two.

José Bravo pitched six innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits, walked four, and struck out five. Joey Gonzalez came on after play resumed and he shut the Cougars down, allowing two hits and striking out five over the final three innings.

Freúdis Nova ripped an RBI double in the 4th to put Quad Cities on the board. With two outs in the 7th, Jeremy Peña kept the inning alive by legging out an infield single. César Salazar got plunked and David Hensley legged out an infield single of his own to load the bases for Freúdis, who brought Peña in... by getting plunked. That prompted Kane County to make a pitching change and Michael Wielansky greeted new Cougars pitcher Wesley Rodriguez with a bases-clearing double that put the Banditos in the lead. Wielansky, Peña, and Hensley all finished with two hits on the evening.

The Banditos and Cougars will wrap up this series at 6:35.

Offensively, Round Rock could only muster up a double from Kyle Tucker and a pair of singles from Josh Rojas and Nick Tanielu.

Cionel Pérez pitched 4.1 innings and he allowed four runs on eight hits (solo homer), walked one, and struck out five. Kent Emanuel tagged in for the final 4.2 innings and allowed three runs on four hits (solo homer) and struck out four.

Rogelio Armenteros will face Trevor Clifton in game two of this series. First pitch is at 7:05.

Corpus Christi 4, Midland 3

The Hooks scored a run in the 9th to nip the Hounds and they also avoided a sweep in the process.

Carson LaRue went four innings and allowed two runs on three hits (solo homer), walked two, and struck out seven. Jonathan Bermúdez and Carlos Sanabria followed with two innings apiece out of the bullpen. Bermúdez was first and he allowed a hit, walked two, and struck out three in a scoreless outing. Sanabria allowed a run on a sac fly, a triple, and fanned four. Justin Ferrell struck out one in a 1-2-3 9th inning to earn the save.

Osvaldo Duarte ripped an RBI double in the 5th to put Corpus on the board. Ronnie Dawson hit an RBI double in the 6th and he came around to score on a single from Luis Santana.

Carlos Canelón singled to lead off the 9th and advanced to second when Duarte laid down a sacrifice bunt. Chas McCormick joined Canelón on the bases after he got plunked and they both advanced a base on Abraham Toro's groundout. Seth Beer was intentionally walked to load the bases for Granden Goetzman, but he didn't have to do anything as a wild pitch allowed Canelón to score what turned out to be the winning run. Stephen Wrenn finished 3-3 with a couple of doubles and scored a run.

J.B. Bukauskas will start the first of a three-game weekend series in Frisco. He'll go against Jonathan Hernandez at 7:05.

A pair of two-run homers and a stellar night on the mound propelled the Woodpeckers to a win.

The one hit that J.P. France allowed in his five innings was a two-run homer hit by Dennicher Carrasco. France walked one and struck out six as he earned his first win of the season. Jojanse Torres shut it down by allowing one hit and striking out nine over the final four innings.

Michael Papierski opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the 2nd inning and Ramiro Rodríguez launched a two-run shot of his own later in the frame. Marty Costes provided some insurance with an RBI single in the 8th. Miguelangel Sierra went 2-3 and was the only player on either side to finish with a multi-hit game. Jonathan Arauz hit an infield single in the 5th to extend his hitting streak to 13 games.

Chad Donato will be on the mound for game three of this series and he'll take on Daniel Tillo at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 4, Beloit 2

The Banditos avoided the sweep thanks to a quick start out of the gate.

That quick start came in the form of a three-run 1st inning as Jeremy Peña ripped an RBI double and César Salazar whacked a two-run homer. Freúdis Nova finished 2-4 and smacked a solo homer in the 8th; he also scored on Salazar's homer. Austin Dennis (SB, R) and Michael Wielansky also finished 2-4 on the evening.

Matt Ruppenthal allowed a run on three hits and struck out four, but he only lasted four innings because he issued five walks in the process. José Alberto Rivera tagged in for 4.1 innings and allowed a run on two hits, walked two, and struck out five. Devin Conn came on and got the final two outs of the game, one coming via the strikeout. He definitely had to earn his save, though. Conn struck out the first man he faced, but he proceeded to throw a wild pitch, issued a walk, threw another wild pitch, and issued another walk to load the bases. Fortunately, he pulled himself together and got Max Schuemann to fly out to end the game.

Quad Cities has a big series coming up as they'll take on the team right behind them in the Midwest League's Western division: Burlington. They have a 4.5 game lead over the Bees so these next three games will present an opportunity to extend the lead. First pitch is at 6:30.
