Round Rock 12, El Paso 11

Two games in which both teams reached double figures in runs. Just your garden-variety Triple-A series. The difference here was Round Rock's run in the 3rd inning.

Everyone in the Round Rock lineup scored a run. Jack Mayfield finished a double shy of the cycle.

In contrast to Wednesday, when José Urquidy was shelled, Kent Emanuel managed to hold out for a nice outing (relatively speaking). Emanuel allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits (two solo homers) and struck out three in 5.2 innings.

Midland 5, Corpus Christi 4

CC home runs: Stephen Wrenn (6, solo in 2nd)

The Hooks scored two in the 8th to take a 3-2 lead and got an insurance run in the 9th to extend their lead to two runs. Unfortunately, they ended up walking off with a loss after the RockHounds scored three in the bottom of the 9th.

Stephen Wrenn finished 2-4 and he smacked a solo homer in the 2nd inning. Bryan de la Cruz scored on an error following a Colton Shaver lineout and then Jake Adams ripped an RBI double in the 8th. De La Cruz, who went 3-5, added an RBI single in the 9th.

Brandon Bailey allowed two runs on five hits, walked three, and struck out three in 4.2 innings. Chad Donato tagged in for 3.1 scoreless, allowing three hits, walking two, and striking out five. Midland walked it off against Tommy DeJuneas in the 9th.

Game two of this series will start at 7:00.

Wilmington 3, Fayetteville 1

Fayetteville home runs: None.

The Woodpeckers were shackled by Kris Bubic, who struck out eleven in a complete-game effort.

J.P. France went five innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits (two-run homer), walked one, and struck out four. Leovanny Rodriguez allowed two hits and struck out four in three scoreless innings of relief and César Rosado allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out one in a scoreless 9th.

Michael Papierski hit a sac fly in the 9th for Fayetteville's only run.

Fayetteville will now begin a series in Winston-Salem. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 8, Clinton 4

QC home runs: Freúdis Nova (3, solo in 2nd), Grae Kessinger (2, 2-run in 3rd)

The Banditos used a six-run 3rd inning to propel themselves to a victory.

Jonathan Bermúdez wasn't at his sharpest as he allowed four runs on three hits, walked five, and struck out two in 3.2 innings. The bullpen, however, was up to the task as Layne Henderson and José Alberto Rivera combined to strike out 11 over the final 5.1 innings. Henderson got Bermúdez out of a bases-loaded predicament and went on to allow two hits, walk one, and strike out five in 2.1 innings. Rivera took over for the last three innings, walking one and striking out six.

Freúdis Nova put Quad Cities on the board by leading off the 2nd with a home run. Austin Dennis led off the 3rd with a double and Wilyer Abreu brought him in with a double of his own. Alex McKenna singled, stole second, and then Oscar Campos ripped a two-run double. Freúdis followed with an RBI single and then Grae Kessinger smacked a two-run shot. Michael Wielansky hit an RBI single in the 5th inning. Nova, Wielansky, Dennis, and McKenna all finished with two hits on the evening.

Matt Ruppenthal will be on the mound as Quad Cities looks for the sweep. He'll take on Jake Walters at 6:35.

Tri-City

Not a pleasant day for the ValleyCats as they were swept in their twinbill with Hudson Valley. The Renegades took game one by a final of 9-3 and won game two 2-1.

Joe Perez whacked a two-run homer in the first game, which now gives him six home runs on the year. Korey Lee drove in a run with a groundout in the 6th. Jairo Lopez allowed a run on two hits, walked two, and struck out five in 3.2 innings of relief.

C.J. Stubbs' sac fly in the 1st was the only Tri-City run in game two. Christian Mejías allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits, walked two, and struck out three in five innings of work.

Kyle Serrano will start game three of this series. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

GCL Astros

The Palm Beach 'Stros wound up splitting their doubleheader with the Marlins, winning game one 4-2 and dropping the second game by a final score of 5-4.

Alfredo Angarita and Sean Mendoza scored on wild pitches in the 1st and the 2nd, respectively. Franklin Pinto hit an RBI single in the 6th and he came around to score on Mendoza's single. Brady Rodgers continued his rehab with 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out three.

In the second game, José Álvarez launched a three-run home run in the 1st; that was the first longball of his pro career. Álvarez reached on an error in the 3rd which allowed Yefri Carrillo to score. Ryan Gusto, the Astros' 11th-round pick from this year's MLB Draft, made his pro debut in this game and he allowed a hit and struck out three over two scoreless innings.

DSL Astros 4, DSL Royals1 2

DSL home runs: None.

The Dominican 'Stros scored three in the top of the 9th to take the lead and the game.

Sebastian Grullón hit an RBI single in the 6th. Andrés Monzón tied the game when he stole home as part of a double steal with Ayendy Ortiz, who scored the go-ahead run on Ricardo Balogh's RBI single. Balogh scored the final run of the day on Grullón's second RBI single of the game. Grullón, Carlos Hurtado, and Frank Perez finished with two hits on the afternoon.

Daniel Bello allowed two runs on two hits, walked three, and struck out four in four innings. Jeremy Molero shut it down by allowing just one hit, walking one, and striking out eight in five innings.

The Cubs thought that they were going to steal one from the Express (doing business as the Chupacabras) when they scored three in the 9th to tie and one in the 10th to take the lead. Yeah, they thought.

Brandon Bielak pitched six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits (solo and three-run homers), walked five, and struck out two. Brendan McCurry was the first man out of the Round Rock bullpen and he allowed three hits and struck out one over two scoreless. Felipe Paulino couldn't get the last out of the game. He got two outs in the 9th and allowed three runs (one inherited runner charged to him) on three hits, walked one, and struck out one. Reymin Guduan allowed an unearned run on a sac fly, a double, and struck out two in 1.1 innings.

Derek Fisher launched a three-run home run in the 1st to kick things off. Jack Mayfield smacked a solo homer in the 5th. Alex De Goti hit a two-run single in the 7th and Mayfield added a sac fly to his ledger in the 8th. Drew Ferguson started the 10th in scoring position. Jamie Ritchie led off the 10th with a single and one batter later, Josh Rojas won the game by clubbing a three-run home run.

Rojas and Mayfield had three hits apiece while Fisher and Ritchie both finished with two on the night.

José Urquidy will start the opener of a four-game series with Memphis on Monday. He'll go against Genesis Cabrera at 7:05.

Corpus Christi 13, Midland 1

The Hooks took this series in emphatic fashion as they poured it on the Hounds early and often.

Brett Adcock pitched 3.2 innings and allowed a run on four hits, walked one, and struck out four. Yohan Ramirez was the first man out of the Corpus bullpen and he turned in 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing a hit, walking one, and striking out four. Nick Hernandez and Carlos Sanabria finished things off with one scoreless inning apiece. Hernandez, who just came off the IL, allowed a hit and struck out two in the 8th. Sanabria got two groundouts and a fly ball out in a 1-2-3 9th.

J.J. Matijevic ripped a two-run double in the 1st to open the scoring. Corpus blew this game open with six runs in the 3rd and all of them came with two outs. Seth Beer kept the inning alive by launching a solo homer. Lorenzo Quintana followed with a single and he scored on a single from Matijevic. Colton Shaver followed with a two-run blast and then Aníbal Sierra and Bryan de la Cruz capped off the onslaught with RBI singles.

Shaver added an RBI single to his ledger in the 7th and Quintana provided the cherry with a grand slam in the 8th inning. Beer, Quintana, and Matijevic all finished with three hits. Everyone except Sierra scored; everyone in the lineup had a hit except for Abraham Toro, who still managed to score a run.

The Hooks have Monday off. They'll welcome the Northwest Arkansas Naturals to the Coastal Bend for a three-game series starting Tuesday.

Fayetteville 3, Potomac 1

Fayetteville home runs: None.

The Woodpeckers scored two runs in the 8th to nip the Nationals.

Corey Julks opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 3rd. Jake Adams smacked an RBI double in the 8th to break the tie and he scored the final run of the game on Michael Papierski's RBI single. Papierski finished 2-4 on the evening.

Shawn Dubin went five innings and he allowed a run on three hits, walked two, and struck out five. Brett Conine turned in 3.2 dominating innings as he allowed one hit, walked one, and struck out eight. César Rosado finished off the game with a strikeout.

Austin Hansen gets the start in the series finale. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 6, South Bend 4

The Banditos scored five in the 4th and held off a late charge from the Cubs to even the series.

José Alberto Rivera pitched six innings and allowed two runs on four hits, walked three, and struck out six. Luis de Paula went two innings in his Midwest League debut and he allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits, walked two, and struck out one. Devin Conn walked two and struck out one in the 9th to get the save.

That big 4th inning gave the Banditos control of this game. Freúdis Nova put Quad Cities on the board with an RBI double. Alex Holderbach and Jonathan Lacroix drove in runs with groundouts and then Ramiro Rodríguez and Alex McKenna followed with RBI doubles. Rodríguez added an RBI single to his ledger in the 6th; he and Freúdis both finished with three hits on the day.

Felipe Tejada faces Brendan Little in the series finale. First pitch is at 1:05 Eastern.

Tri-City 6, Connecticut 4

The ValleyCats also got even in their series by holding off a rally from their opponents.

Korey Lee hit his first professional home run in the 1st inning, a two-run blast that opened the scoring. He added a sac fly to his ledger in the 5th. Tri-City got a pair of RBI singles in the 6th from E.P. Reese and Juan Paulino and Preston Pavlica hit a bloop single that drove in a run in the 7th. Everyone in the ValleyCats lineup recorded at least one hit in this game.

Valente Bellozo allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out five over 3.2 scoreless. Juan Pablo Lopez was the first man out of the ValleyCats bullpen and he allowed three runs on five hits, walked two, and struck out four in 4.1 innings. Yeremi Ceballos allowed a run on two hits, walked one, and struck out one in the 9th.

Hunter Brown takes on Marco Jimenez in the series finale. First pitch is at 7:05 Eastern.

The Palm Beach 'Stros scored all four of their runs in the final three innings of this game, which culminated with them walking off with the win.

Yimmi Cortabarria hit an RBI single in the 8th. Dexter Jordan reached on an error and José Mendoza and Sean Mendoza came home with the tying runs. Jordan tried for the walk-off Little League home run but he was thrown out at the plate. José Álvarez started the 10th in scoring position. He advanced to third on a sac bunt from Cortabarria (who reached safely) and scored the winning run on a wild pitch. Álvarez and Cortabarria both had two hits on the day.

Brayan de Paula, facing his former organization, allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out seven over four scoreless innings. Diosmerky Taveras was the first man out of the GCL squad's bullpen and he allowed two runs on three hits, walked four, and struck out five. Danny Cody allowed a run on a sac fly, a hit, and walked one in 1.1 innings. Jherson Pereira got three outs despite facing two batters in the 10th, striking out one. How did that happen? Well, Álvarez picked the leadoff runner off second for the first out. Pereira hit the leadoff hitter, who proceeded to get picked off first. He wrapped up the inning with a strikeout.

Dominican Summer League All-Star Game

The American League topped the National League 5-4 in a game that was shortened by rain.

Yohander Martinez went 0-1 after entering the game to play third base in the 4th inning. Reimy Beltre needed one pitch to record the first out of the 5th.

The E-Train scored three runs in the 9th to snatch this game from the Missions' grasp.

José Urquidy threw six shutout innings, allowing five hits, walking two, and striking out nine. Urquidy became the first pitcher in the system to strike out 100 batters this season. Ralph Garza Jr., Reymin Guduan, and Felipe Paulino all pitched an inning. Garza got the 7th and he allowed three hits, one of which was a two-run homer, and struck out two. Guduan walked one and struck out the side in the 8th, and Paulino allowed a hit and struck out the side in the 9th to earn the save.

Jack Mayfield opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 6th inning. Nick Tanielu smacked a one-out double in the 9th, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored the tying run on Josh Rojas' double. Rojas advanced to third on a wild pitch and after A.J. Reed was intentionally walked, he scored the go-ahead run when Jamie Ritchie hit into a fielder's choice. Chas McCormick hit an RBI single for insurance.

The Express and Missions will play game three of this series at 7:05.

Corpus Christi was off

The Hooks will start a four-game series in Amarillo tonight at 7:05.

Salem 4, Fayetteville 2

The Red Sox took this game on the strength of a three-run 7th inning.

Scott Schreiber hit an RBI single in the 6th and Chandler Taylor ripped an RBI double in the 9th. Schreiber and J.J. Matijevic had two hits apiece in this game.

Luis Garcia allowed an unearned run on a sac fly, a single, walked one, and struck out eight in five innings of work. Chad Donato got the last three innings and he allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits, walked one, and struck out five.

Fayetteville heads home to start a four-game series with Myrtle Beach at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 7, Burlington 5

The Banditos took this game by withstanding a five-run 4th from the Bees and getting some Houdini-esque escapes from José Alberto Rivera on the mound.

José Bravo allowed five runs on seven hits and struck out seven in four innings of work. Rivera got the last five innings and allowed four hits, walked four, and struck out six. He got out of a bases-loaded, no out jam in the 6th unscathed and then stranded two runners in scoring position in the 7th. A caught stealing got Rivera out of the 8th and he managed to strand two runners to end the game.

Jeremy Peña opened the scoring by whacking a solo homer in the 3rd and Oscar Campos drove in another run by ripping an RBI double. Quad Cities scored three times in the 5th on a wild pitch that allowed Michael Wielansky to score, an Austin Dennis sac fly, and an RBI single from Campos. Peña scored on an error in the 7th and Alex McKenna drove in a run with a groundout in the 8th. Campos went 3-4 on the evening. Peña (solo HR, 3 R, SB) and Ross Adolph (2B, 2 R) both finished 2-4 on the night.

Felipe Tejada takes on Robinson Pina as this series shifts to the Quad Cities for the final two games. First pitch is at 6:35.

Game 1: Lowell 2, Tri-City 1 (8 innings)

TC home runs: Preston Pavlica (1, solo in 7th)

The ValleyCats tied up game one with a run in the 7th... only to see the Spinners walk off with the victory after scoring in the first extra frame.

Preston Pavlica launched a solo homer in the 7th, his first pro home run, which ended up being the ValleyCats' only scoring play in this game. E.P. Reese and Nathan Perry had two hits apiece.

Jayson Schroeder went four innings and allowed a run on six hits, walked two, and struck out three. Miguel Figueroa was the first man out of the Tri-City bullpen in game one and he was excellent as he walked one and struck out three over three scoreless. Hansel Paulino allowed the game-winning hit, a single, to lead off the 8th.

Game 2: Lowell 7, Tri-City 0

W- Hildemaro Requena (2-0)
L- Christian Mejias (0-1)
S- Brendan Nail (2)

TC home runs: None.

The ValleyCats were swept in the doubleheader as they were shut out in game two.

All they got on offense in game two was a Juan Paulino single. Paulino also stole a base, his fourth of the season.

Christian Mejías went 3.2 innings and allowed a run on three hits, walked two, and struck out a career-high ten batters. Michael Horrell got Mejías out of a predicament to end the 4th and he went on to pitch 1.2 innings, allowing three runs (two earned, two inherited runners charged to him) on two hits, walking one, and striking out two. Shea Barry got the final two outs in the 6th inning and he allowed three unearned runs, a bases-clearing triple, and walked two. I think he'd like a do-over for his professional debut.

Angel Macuare gets the start in the series finale and he'll face Yusniel Padrón-Artilles at 7:05 Eastern.

GCL Mets 11, GCL Astros 6

GCL home runs: Colin Barber (1, solo in 5th), Nerio Rodriguez (1, solo in 8th)

The Palm Beach 'Stros scored three in the top of the 8th to tie this game at 6... and then the Mets regained control by scoring five in the bottom of the 8th.

Brayan de Paula pitched four innings and allowed two runs on two hits (solo homer), walked two, and struck out four. Diosmerky Taveras was next and he allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits, walked two, and struck out two. Whit Drennan and Jherson Pereira both pitched an inning. Well, Drennan came on for the 8th but he failed to record an out in that inning. He allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and struck out one. Jherson Pereira took ownership of the 8th and allowed four runs (one earned) a hit, walked two, and struck out one.

Nerio Rodriguez singled in the 1st and an error on the play allowed Colin Barber to score. Barber launched his first career home run in the 5th and Nerio followed with an RBI single. Nerio smacked a homer to lead off the 8th and then the GCL squad got two more runs in the inning as Yeuris Ramirez scored on an error following a Yefri Carrillo single. Carrillo came home on a double from José Álvarez. Nerio finished 4-5 on the afternoon and Barber went 2-3.

The Astros will take on the Cardinals at noon Eastern.

Fabricio Reina pitched two innings and allowed two runs on a double play and a wild pitch, a single, walked one, and struck out one. Edinson Batista and Daniel Pacheco pitched three innings apiece. Batista walked two and struck out six while Pacheco allowed two runs on three hits, walked one, and struck out three.

The Astros will host the Red Sox 1 at 11:30 AM Atlantic.
