Fresno home runs: Kyle Tucker (5, 2-run in 8th)

The Grizzlies were held in check, but they were also left to rue some missed opportunities as they finished 0-9 with runners in scoring position on Wednesday afternoon.

Kyle Tucker's two-run blast in the 8th represented Fresno's only scoring play in this game. Tyler White went 2-3.

Josh James threw 4.1 innings and allowed two runs on three hits (solo homer), walked two, and struck out three. Kent Emanuel was the first man out of the Grizzlies bullpen and allowed three runs on four hits and walked two in 1.1 innings. Andrew Thome tagged in for two scoreless innings, allowing a hit, walking two, and striking out two. Buddy Boshers retired all four Reno hitters he faced, striking out two of them.

Fresno and Reno will wrap up their series at 7:05 Pacific. The Grizzlies have not announced a starter; whoever he is, he'll face Troy Scribner.

Corpus Christi 4, Springfield 2

Four Hooks pitchers combined to hold the Cardinals to three hits as they came away with a series win in Missouri.

The one hit that Yoanys Quiala allowed in his five innings was a solo homer to Tommy Edman. Quiala also walked one and struck out five. Sean Stutzman issued two walks over two scoreless innings. The Ferrells both pitched an inning; the Oklahoma Ferrell, Justin, allowed a run on two hits and struck out one in the 8th, while the Texas Ferrell, Riley, closed it out by striking out two in a 1-2-3 9th.

Corpus got two in the 1st on a sac fly from Josh Rojas and an RBI groundout from Randy César. Stephen Wrenn hit an RBI single in the 2nd, and Lorenzo Quintana scored on an error as Aníbal Sierra stole second base in the 7th inning. Sierra got a bit greedy and was thrown out at third. César went 2-4 and extended his hitting streak to 16 games. Rojas was the only man in the lineup to go hitless, but he did drive in the first run of the evening.

Brock Dykxhoorn will face Jake Woodford, a former high school teammate of Kyle Tucker's, in the series finale. First pitch is at 7:05.

Game 1: Winston-Salem 3, Buies Creek 1

The Dash scored in more innings than the Carolina Stros in game one.

Carson LaRue went 5.1 innings and allowed three runs on five hits (solo homer) and struck out four. Robert Corniel walked two in the 6th but was able to get the last two outs of the frame without any further incident. He struck out one.

Abraham Toro scored Buies Creek's only run of game one on a sac fly from Chas McCormick in the 4th inning.

Game 2: Buies Creek 10, Winston-Salem 4

BC home runs: J.J. Matijevic 2 (3, 6 season; solo in 2nd, solo in 5th), Abraham Toro (7, 2-run in 1st), Ronnie Dawson (4, 3-run in 3rd)

Buies Creek stormed out to an 8-0 lead after three innings and cruised to a split in the twinbill. They were the home team in this game because it was originally scheduled to take place in Buies Creek.

Osvaldo Duarte tripled to lead off the bottom of the 1st and scored the first run of game two on a double from Ronnie Dawson. One batter later, Abraham Toro launched a home run. Alfredo Angarita added a two-run single. J.J. Matijevic smacked his first solo homer of the game in the 2nd inning. Dawson tacked on three more in the 3rd with his homer, and Matijevic capped off the onslaught in the 5th with his second solo home run.

Gabriel Valdez went five innings and allowed two runs on four hits (solo homer),walked two, and struck out three. Tanner Duncan allowed a two-run homer to Joel Booker in the 7th, which was the only scoring play he allowed in his two innings. Duncan allowed four other hits, walked one, and struck out three.

Brett Adcock will face Dylan Cease in the series finale. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 8, Wisconsin 4

QC home runs: None.

The Banditos trailed 4-1 through five innings, but fortunately, their bats came alive and they blew the Timber Rattlers away.

Jake Meyers drew a two-out walk in the 3rd inning and scored Quad Cities' first run when Jonathan Arauz ripped a triple. They cut the deficit to one with a couple of runs in the 6th inning. Corey Julks led off by drawing a walk and scored on a Miguelangel Sierra double. Sierra advanced to third on a wild pitch that was also ball four to Jake Adams. Adams got caught stealing, but Sierra took advantage and scored while everyone else was preoccupied with Adams.

Quad Cities loaded the bases with one out in the 7th and they wound up scoring four runs. Julks put them in the lead with a two-run single and Adams ripped a two-run double. Meyers capped off the evening with an RBI triple in the 8th inning.

Patrick Sandoval went 4.2 innings and allowed four runs on five hits (three-run homer), walked two, and struck out four. Juan Robles tagged in to throw 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits, walking one, and striking out three. Carlos Sanabria worked around a hit to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out two.

César Rosado will face Alec Bettinger in the series finale. First pitch is at 6:35.

Fresno home runs: A.J. Reed (23, solo in 3rd)

Fresno has been in a tailspin as of late; they dropped their 5th straight on Tuesday and have relinquished the division lead to Reno.

Kent Emanuel went 6 innings and allowed 4 runs on 10 hits, walked 3, and struck out 5. Jordan Jankowski pitched 2 innings and allowed 2 runs on a sac fly and a wild pitch, a double, walked 4, and struck out 2. Dayan Diaz allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2 in the 9th.

Jack Mayfield opened the scoring with a 2-run single in the 1st inning. Alejandro Garcia scored on a groundout in the 2nd, and A.J. Reed smacked a solo homer in the 3rd. Tony Kemp tripled to lead off the bottom of the 5th and scored on a Jon Kemmer groundout. Reed finished 2-4, making him the only player in the Fresno lineup with a multi-hit game.

Both teams had 5 hits, but the Drillers scored more runs, so... they won.

Colin Walsh went 2-4 and his solo homer in the 1st was the Hooks' only scoring play. Rico Noel went 2-4.

Brock Dykxhoorn went 5 innings and allowed an unearned run on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. Ralph Garza Jr. and Andrew Thome pitched 2 innings apiece; Garza walked 2 and only allowed 1 hit, but it was a 2-run homer that turned out to be the difference. Thome allowed a hit and struck out 2.

Framber Valdez starts game 2 of this series. He'll face Andrew Sopko at 7:05.

Salem 2, Buies Creek 1

BC home runs: None.

While Buies Creek saw their chance to break a 1-1 tie in the 8th fall by the wayside after stranding a couple of runners, Salem took advantage of their opportunity in the bottom of the 8th.

Matt Bower and Jorge Alcala both allowed a run on 4 hits. Bower went 5 innings and also walked 1 and struck out 5. Alcala walked 2 (1 intentionally) and struck out 1 in his 3 innings.

The Carolina Stros' only scoring play was a Yordan Alvarez RBI single in the 3rd. They left the bases loaded to end their half of that inning. They also finished 1-10 with runners in scoring position. Randy César, Carmen Benedetti, and Rodrigo Ayarza all went 2-4, while Myles Straw drew 4 walks out of the top spot in the order.

Forrest Whitley will go up against Roniel Raudes in game 2 of this series. First pitch is at 7:05 Eastern.

Quad Cities 5, Beloit 0

QC home runs: Daz Cameron (13, 3-run in 1st)

Daz Cameron dominated at the plate and the Banditos' pitchers dominated on the mound to give Quad Cities their 8th straight victory.

Cristian Javier allowed 2 hits and struck out 7 over 5 innings of work. Gabriel Valdez was the first man out of the Quad Cities bullpen and turned in 3 perfect innings, striking out 4. Robert Corniel worked around a hit and a walk to complete the shutout, striking out 1 in the 9th.

Daz opened the scoring with a 3-run blast in the 1st inning. He hit a two-out single in the 3rd, stole 2nd (24), and scored on a Josh Rojas single. After Abraham Toro-Hernandez doubled in the 5th, Daz added an RBI single to his ledger. He finished 4-4 on the night; he and Toro both scored twice.

Carlos Sanabria will take on Tyler Watson in the first of a 3-game series in Cedar Rapids at 6:35.

Lowell 4, Tri-City 0

The ValleyCats' bats went silent on Tuesday.

Gabriel Bracamonte went 3-4 with a double and Jonathan Arauz finished 2-4, so theirs had a little life, at least.

Kit Scheetz went 4.1 innings and allowed 4 runs (3 earned, 1 inherited runner charged to him) on 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 7. Luis Ramirez allowed a hit and got the last two outs of the 5th via strikeout. Juan Robles allowed 2 hits and struck out 4 in 3 innings.

Brandon Bielak starts game 2 of this series. He'll face Jake Thompson... but Thompson pitched in this game for the Spinners, so that matchup is most likely incorrect. First pitch is at 6:35 Eastern.

Game 1: Greeneville 6, Burlington 5

Greeneville home runs: Gilberto Celestino (4, 2-run in 6th)

The Appy Astros took game 1 by scoring two in each of the final three innings in which they batted.

Leovanny Rodriguez allowed 3 runs on 4 hits and struck out 1 in the 1st inning. Francisco Villegas, Tim Hardy, and Willy Collado all followed with 2 innings each out of the Greeneville bullpen. Villegas was first and he allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. Hardy allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1, and Collado allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 3.

Patrick Mathis and Brody Westmoreland started the 4th inning by drawing a walk and singling, respectively. Reid Russell and Frankeny Fernandez both went down on strikes, but the two men on base successfully pulled off a double steal and they both came home on Ruben Castro's single to put the Appy Astros on the board.

Greeneville loaded the bases in the 5th inning and Russell atoned for his strikeout by ripping a 2-run double. Wilson Amador singled to lead off the 6th, then stole 2nd and moved to 3rd on a balk. Gilberto Celestino launched a homer that turned out to be the difference. Celestino finished 2-4 with a stolen base (10) and extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

The Appy Astros went 6-6 in stolen base attempts in game 1; Amador (16) and Mathis (2) stole 2 apiece. Westmoreland's steal was his first of the year.

Game 2: Burlington 3, Greeneville 1

Greeneville home runs: None.

The Appy Astros had more hits in game 2... but they also had two miscues that resulted in a couple of runs for the Royals.

Martin Figueroa went 2-3 and drove in Greeneville's lone run in game 2 with an RBI single in the 6th inning. Cody Bohanek, who scored on the play, also went 2-3. Wilson Amador stole another base; his 17 steals lead the Appalachian League.

Adam Bleday went 5 innings and allowed an unearned run on 2 hits, walked 3, and struck out 8. Dariel Aquino pitched the final 2 innings and allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits, walked 3, and struck out 3.

Greeneville will start a 3-game series in Elizabethton at 7:00 Eastern.

The Palm Beach Stros busted a 3-1 game open with 3 runs in the 5th and 2 more in the 6th.

Enmanuel Valdez went 2-5 with a homer to start the 1st and an RBI double in the 5th. César Cortez led off the 5th with a homer and drove in another run with a sac fly in the 6th. Nathan Perry had an RBI double in the 2nd and a sac fly in the 5th. Wander Franco, Carlos Machado, and Vicente Sanchez all had 2 hits on the day.

Jairo Solis allowed a solo homer and struck out 4 in his 3 innings. Javier Navas went 5.1 innings and allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits (solo homer), walked 4, and struck out 6, and Saul Martinez got the last two outs of the game, one via strikeout.

Fresno home runs: Jon Kemmer (16, 2-run in 7th)

Neither team scored in the first four innings, but the Grizzlies broke through emphatically with 6 runs in the 5th inning.

Drew Ferguson walked to spark the rally, advanced to 3rd when Alejandro Garcia reached on a botched force attempt, and scored the first run of the night on Tony Kemp's RBI single. Jack Mayfield followed with an RBI single of his own, and Preston Tucker smacked a 2-run triple. Tucker came home on a J.D. Davis sac fly. Jon Kemmer reached on an error, stole 2nd, and scored on a Reid Brignac single. Kemmer smacked a 2-run homer in the 7th to bring in the final runs of the game. Kemp finished 3-5, while Mayfield, Davis, and Brignac all had 2 hits on the night.

Dean Deetz allowed 3 hits, walked 5, and struck out 6 over 4.1 scoreless innings. Kevin Comer was the first man out of the Fresno bullpen and allowed an RBI single, walked 3, and struck out 2 in 1.2 innings. Dayan Diaz allowed a hit and fanned 2 over 2 scoreless, and Jumbo Diaz struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 9th.

Corpus Christi 4, Frisco 1

CC home runs: Ryne Birk (2, 10 season; solo in 5th)

Cy Sneed turned in a solid performance on the mound to start a new series as he allowed 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1 over 7 shutout innings. The Roughriders spoiled the shutout with a run following an error that Andrew Thome committed in the 9th. Thome pitched the final 2 innings and allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 1.

Dex McCall ripped a 2-out double in the 2nd and scored the game's first run on a Ryne Birk RBI single. Birk struck again in the 5th when he launched a solo shot. Jon Singleton hit a 2-out single in the 6th and dashed home on a Colin Walsh double. Ramon Laureano doubled in the 8th and scored on an error that allowed Kyle Tucker to reach. Birk finished 3-4 on the night.

Franklin Perez takes on Pedro Payano in game 2 of this series. First pitch is at 7:05.

Buies Creek 5, Carolina 4

The Carolina Stros coughed up the lead in the 6th, but they managed to pull themselves together and ended up walking off with the win.

After drawing a one-out walk in the 3rd inning, Stephen Wrenn scored the first run of the night on a botched double play attempt that saw Taylor Jones reach safely. In the 4th, Myles Straw hit an RBI single and Wrenn hit into a fielder's choice that scored Anibal Sierra. Wrenn drew a bases-loaded walk in the 8th to tie the game at 4. Anthony Hermelyn ripped a double with one out in the 9th and scored the winning run following Randy César's single.

Hermelyn finished 2-5 and was the only player in the Buies Creek lineup with a multi-hit game. Carmen Benedetti went 0-2 in his Carolina League debut, but he also drew a couple of walks and scored a run.

Elieser Hernandez allowed 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4 in 3.2 innings. Sebastian Kessay was the first man out of the Buies Creek bullpen and went 1.1 innings, allowing a run on a wild pitch, a double, walking 1, and striking out 1. Erasmo Pinales came on for the 6th but only got 2 outs; he allowed 3 runs (1 inherited runner charged to him) on 2 hits (2-run homer), walked 2, and struck out 1. Justin Ferrell was next; he allowed 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3 in 3 innings. Carlos Sierra recorded a strikeout to end the 9th inning.

Quad Cities 9, Burlington 8

The Banditos squandered a 6-2 lead but found a way to escape with the win. It wasn't easy, but they did it.

Quad Cities scored in 7 out of the 8 innings in which they were on offense. Ronnie Dawson singled to lead off the bottom of the 1st and scored the first run of the night on a Daz Cameron sac fly. Osvaldo Duarte ripped an RBI triple in the 2nd. Kristian Trompiz, who scored on the triple, ripped an RBI double in the 3rd. Dawson hit an RBI single in the 4th and Trompiz drew a bases-loaded walk in the 5th.

Burlington scored 4 in the 7th to tie the game. Chas McCormick got a run back and put the Banditos back in front with a sac fly in the bottom of the inning. The Bees scored twice in the 8th to take the lead and Quad Cities responded with 2 of their own to regain control. Abraham Toro-Hernandez walked to lead off the inning, and then Duarte laid down a bunt. An error allowed Toro to score the tying run and Duarte made it all the way to 3rd. Chuckie Robinson put Quad Cities back in front with an RBI single. He finished 3-5 with a couple of doubles. Trompiz, Duarte, Dawson, Troy Sieber, and Daz all had 2 hits on the night; Trompiz reached in all 4 of his plate appearances; he walked twice and also stole a base. He has 5 stolen bases with Quad Cities and 20 on the year.

Cristian Javier went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits (solo homer), walked 2, and struck out 7. Robert Corniel came on for the 7th but bore the brunt of Burlington's assault; he allowed the 4 runs on 3 hits and walked 3 while only getting one out. Salvador Montaño pitched the last 2.2 innings and allowed 2 runs, an RBI single (the other run scored on a groundout), walked 4, and struck out 2.

Quad Cities and Burlington will wrap up their series at 6:35 as Gabriel Valdez takes on Justin Kelly.

Tri-City 3, Brooklyn 1

Juan Robles and Kit Scheetz held the Cyclones hitless for 8 innings until they broke through against Scheetz.

Robles walked 4 and struck out 2 in 5 innings of work. Scheetz took over for the last 4 and allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. Walter Rasquin snapped the no-hitter by tripling to lead off the 9th.

Colton Shaver opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 4th. Adrian Tovalin tripled in the 6th and scored on a wild pitch that Jake Adams drew a walk off of, and Bryan De La Cruz hit an RBI single in the 9th.

A 6-0 lead proved to be too much for the Appy Astros to overcome.

They got a couple in the 3rd on a Cody Bohanek RBI single and a Brody Westmoreland sac fly. Gilberto Celestino finished 2-4 with an RBI triple in the 7th. Wilson Amador went 2-4 with a double and scored a run.

Francisco Villegas struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 1st inning. Bryan Abreu bore the brunt of Danville's assault, which included a 5-run 3rd inning. He allowed 6 runs on 4 hits (3-run homer), walked 4, and struck out 1. Adam Bleday stopped the bleeding by throwing 4.2 scoreless innings, allowing 5 hits, walking 1, and striking out 8. Ian Hardman allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1 over 2 scoreless. Bleday is now on a 17.1 inning scoreless streak.

They thought that they were going to snatch a victory, but the Mets spoiled those plans by scoring 4 in the bottom of the 9th to walk off with the win.

Jairo Solis allowed 4 runs (3 earned, 1 inherited runner charged to him) on 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7 in 3.2 innings of work. Brendan Feldmann was the first man out of the GCLstros bullpen, allowing a hit and striking out 2 in 1.1 innings. Javier Navas allowed 2 hits and struck out 1 over 3 scoreless. The Mets won it with 1 out in the 9th by scoring 4 (2 earned) off Carlos Pimentel, who allowed 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1.

Jonathan Matute went 2-3 with a couple of RBI singles. Carlos Machado went 0-3, but he managed to drive in a run on a bases-loaded walk in the big 8th inning and also scored twice. Bernardo Heras had a 2-run single in the 8th.

Charlie Morton had a very nice outing as he continues to work his way back to full strength.

Morton allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2 over 4 scoreless innings. Kyle Smith got the next 4 innings and did alright until he ran into trouble in the 8th. He allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits and struck out 1. Tyson Perez struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 9th for the save.

The Tacos got a 3-run blast from D.J. Fisher (17) in the opening frame and got 1 each in the 4th, 5th, and the 6th to come away with the victory. Reid Brignac smacked an RBI triple in the 4th, Tyler White launched a solo homer in the 5th, and Preston Tucker brought in Fresno's final run of the night with an RBI single in the 6th. Brignac (3B, RBI), Tony Kemp (2B, R), and Colin Moran (2B) turned in 2-hit performances.

Trent Thornton will take on Barry Enright in game 3 of this series. First pitch is at 7:05 Pacific.

Texas League All-Star Game

The South All-Stars erupted for 7 runs in the 4th to run away with a 10-3 win.

Drew Ferguson started in RF and went 2-3 with 2 walks and scored a run out of the leadoff spot. J.D. Davis got the start at 3B and went 2-4 with a 2-run single in that massive 4th inning. Jon Singleton went 0-4 as the starting 1B, and Garrett Stubbs, who started at catcher, hit a bases-clearing triple in the 4th and scored twice.

Rogelio Armenteros got the start and allowed a 2-run homer to Chuck Taylor, one of 3 hits that he allowed in the 1st inning. He struck out 2.

Corpus Christi returns to action on Thursday in Northwest Arkansas.

Carolina 6, Buies Creek 5 in 15 innings

Stephen Wrenn smacked a 2-run homer to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th and that's how the game remained until the Mudcats broke through with a run in the 15th.

Both teams scored 2 runs in the 3rd; Buies Creek got theirs on an Alex De Goti solo blast, and then Myles Straw followed with a triple and walked home after a balk was called. Straw, who finished 3-7 with a stolen base (18), added an RBI single to his ledger in the 8th. Wrenn connected for his first Carolina League homer to tie the game with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th. Jake Rogers finished 2-4 with a double and scored on Wrenn's homer.

Matt Bower went 2.2 innings and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 2. Howie Brey was the first man out of the Carolina Stros bullpen and threw 3 innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits (solo homer), walking 1, and striking out 3. Sean Stutzman followed with 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits, walking 1, and striking out 3. Not sure why he's in Buies Creek when he's been doing relatively well in Corpus; it was probably just for him to get work during the Texas League All-Star break.

Anyway, Nick Hernandez was next and he struck out 7 over 4 perfect frames. Sebastian Kessay allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1 in 2 innings.

Buies Creek and Carolina will continue their series at 7:00 Eastern as Framber Valdez faces Kodi Medeiros.

Quad Cities 6, Wisconsin 5

Erasmo Pinales had a nice outing of the bullpen and the Banditos got a run in the 6th to break a 5-5 tie.

Wander Franco opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st. Ronnie Dawson started off the 4th with a homer. Quad Cities got 3 in the 5th after Gabriel Bracamonte scored on a wild pitch. Dawson then added an RBI single to his ledger and Franco scored on an error. Jonathan Arauz scored the go-ahead run on another wild pitch in the 6th inning.

Arauz (HR shy of cycle, 2 R) and Dawson (solo HR, 2 RBI) both finished 3-5 on the day, while Franco went 2-5.

Gabriel Valdez went 6 innings and allowed 5 runs on 9 hits (2 solo homers), walked 1, and struck out 4. Erasmo Pinales shut it down over the last 3 innings, walking 2 and striking out 2 for the save.

Forrest Whitley will take the mound in game 3 of this series. He takes on Zach Brown at 7:05.

Tri-City was off

The ValleyCats will play a doubleheader to start a new series in Connecticut with game 1 beginning at 6:05 Eastern.

The Appy Astros scored in 6 of 9 innings and withstood a 3-run 9th from the Pirates to earn the sweep.

Austin Kerns allowed a run on a double and struck out 1 in the 1st inning. Cole Watts allowed 2 hits and walked 2 in 2 scoreless innings. Juan Robles tagged in for 5 innings and allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 9. Willy Collado got 2 outs in the 9th, but he also allowed 3 runs on 3 hits and walked 1. Ian Hardman walked the first man he faced to load the bases but got the last out of the evening with a strikeout.

Both teams scored a run in the 1st; Greeneville's came on a Brody Westmoreland RBI double. Chas McCormick ripped a 2-run double in the 2nd inning. Gilberto Celestino scored on an error in the 4th. The Appy Astros got RBI singles from McCormick in the 7th and another from Joan Mauricio in the 8th. Cody Bohanek ripped an RBI double and came around to score on a Frankeny Fernandez single in the 9th inning.

McCormick (2B, 3 RBI, R), Bohanek (2B, RBI, 2 R), and Roman Garcia (2B, 3B, R) all finished with 2 hits on the evening.

Tim Hardy will start the first of a 3-game series in Johnson City. He'll face Franyel Casadilla (I'm suddenly hungry) at 7:00 Eastern.

GCL Marlins 14, GCL Astros 9

The Marlins got 4 in the 8th and 2 in the 9th to seize control of this one.

Vicente Sanchez finished 3-4 and scored 3 runs. Richard Slenker hit a 2-run homer in the 5th for his first pro home run. Juan Piñeda (2 RBI) and Enmanuel Valdez had 2 hits apiece. Orlando Marquez drove in 2, while Ihan Bernal and Hector Martinez both drove in a run.

Jheyson Caraballo allowed 2 runs on 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4 in 3 innings. The bullpen.... struggled, and I think I'll leave it at that. Tanner Duncan was the only GCLstros pitcher to turn in a scoreless outing, striking out 2 over 2 perfect innings.

DSL Astros Blue 7, DSL Marlins 4

The Blue team took advantage of 5 Marlins miscues on Tuesday.

Ronaldo Urdaneta stole 2nd base in the 2nd inning and scored thanks to a couple of errant throws. In the 3rd, Yorbin Ceuta smacked an RBI double and trotted home on an Anthony Rodriguez triple. Rodriguez wound up scoring on a balk. Nerio Rodriguez doubled and eventually scored on an error that allowed Urdaneta to reach. In the 5th inning, Rhandall Sanchez drew a bases-loaded walk to score Anthony, and Nerio scored on a wild pitch.

Ceuta finished 4-5 on the day, while the Rodriguezes both finished with 2 hits.

Angel Macuare allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1 in the 1st inning. Christopher Javier was the first man out of the bullpen and allowed 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2 over 3 scoreless. Nathanael Ventura got 2 strikeouts in the 5th and allowed a single; the runner eventually scored on a wild pitch. Ventura also issued 2 walks and hit another batter. Antonio Pujols allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 2, and fanned 2 in 3 innings. Yulian Frontado got the last out of the 8th. Oscar Severino worked around a couple of hits to finish the game, striking out 1.

DSL Astros Orange 12, DSL Cubs 10

Orange home runs: None.

The Orange team stormed out to a 12-0 lead and then had to withstand a massive charge from the Cubs that included an 8-run 9th inning.

Diosward Gonzalez allowed 3 hits and fanned 4 over 5 shutout innings. The bullpen almost suffered a meltdown of epic proportions, but Rafael De Paula finally managed to get that elusive final out.

Jose Carrillo didn't have a hit, but that didn't prevent him from scoring 3 runs. The first run came on a Michael Garcia groundout in the 2nd inning. Fildex Perfecto drove in the first of 5 runs in the 3rd with a double. Perfecto scored on a Freudis Nova single. Nova wound up scoring on an error, and then Luis Barajas and Garcia followed with an RBI single and a sac fly, respectively.

Team Orange scored 3 in the 5th on RBI singles from Garcia and Sean Mendoza and an RBI double from Renaigel Martis. Garcia hit a 2-run single in the 6th and Mendoza hit another RBI single later in the frame.

Mendoza went 3-4 out of the #9 spot in the order, while Martis (2 2B, RBI, R) and Alvarez (2B, RBI, 3 R) had 2 hits apiece.

Meet the 2017 Greeneville Astros

The Greeneville Astros start their season at home against the Bluefield Blue Jays at 7:00.

But, before I introduce you to the Appy Astros, I would like to introduce you to the town of Greeneville, Tennessee.

Greeneville is located in the far reaches of East Tennessee, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The town prides itself on being the only "Greeneville" in the United States, as it was named for Nathanael Greene, a general in the American Revolution. Former President Andrew Johnson, Abraham Lincoln's successor, considered Greeneville to be his hometown.

In addition, the USS Greeneville, a submarine of the United States Navy, is named for the town.

The Appy Astros play their home games at Pioneer Park, located on the campus of Tusculum College, the oldest institution of higher learning in the state of Tennessee. They play in the Appalachian League's West Division, along with the Bristol Pirates, the Elizabethton Twins, the Kingsport Mets, and the Johnson City Cardinals.

Greeneville has been an Astros affiliate since 1999; they began in 1988 as a Phillies farm club and were originally located in Martinsville, Virginia before moving to Greeneville in 2003.

So now, let's meet the 2017 Greeneville Astros!

The roster is a mix of 2017 draftees along with players who are making the leap from the Gulf Coast League, a few who made cameos last season after spending most of 2016 in the complex leagues, and there are even some who have skipped the GCL altogether.

Of the 33 players currently on the roster, 25 are Hispanic (11 Dominicans, 5 Venezuelans, 3 Mexicans, 2 Mexican Americans, 1 Dominican American, 1 Puerto Rican, 1 Cuban and 1 Panamanian). The Astros have hit the international free agent market as hard as any team and it shows in Greeneville's roster composition. As I have said before, Oz Ocampo and his team have done an outstanding job in the IFA market and we are starting to see their efforts bear fruit, especially in the lower levels of the organization.

The biggest name in this contingent is probably Gilberto Celestino, a Dominican outfielder who signed for $2.25 million on July 2, 2015. Celestino isn't the typical Dominican bonus baby; the Astros were enamored with him after seeing his performances in youth tournaments. He's received critical acclaim for his defense in center as well.

One player who will be making the jump from the Dominican to East Tennessee is Enmanuel Valdez, who enjoyed a good debut season in 2016 after signing for $450,000. He did hit a wall after moving over to the DSL Blue team, but he certainly opened a few eyes within the organization.

Chas McCormick finished his college career as the PSAC's (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) hit king.

Juan Robles debuted in 2015 with a huge splash in the complex leagues and was rewarded with two appearances for Quad Cities. 2016 was a bit of a lost year for him, so he'll look to regain some momentum from his excellent debut season. Tim Hardy, the largest man on the roster, will be pitching in familiar surroundings; he played his college ball at Tusculum before the Astros picked him in the 18th round last week. Javier Navas excelled in his two years in the Dominican and that earned him a spot with the Appy Astros.

Coaching Staff

In his first coaching job in the United States after starting his career in the Dominican Summer League, Danny Ortega will replace Josh Bonifay as the skipper of the Appy Astros. Ortega shared hitting coach duties with Omar Rosario on the DSL Blue team in 2016.

David Paulino went 5 innings and allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 8. Brendan McCurry and Kevin Chapman followed with 2 scoreless innings apiece; McCurry allowed 2 hits and struck out 3, while Chapman allowed a hit and struck out 1.

Drew Ferguson broke a scoreless tie in the 6th, the Hooks poured it on in the 7th, and Francis Martes and Eric Peterson shut down the Midland offense. Martes allowed 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4 over 7 shutout innings, and Peterson finished it off by striking out 4 over 2 perfect frames.

Ferguson finished 3-4, and his two-run homer in the 6th accounted for the game's first two runs. Mott Hyde got hit by a pitch to lead off the 7th, and he eventually scored on an error following a Tony Nuñez bunt single. Nick Tanielu added a 2-run single, and J.D. Davis capped off the evening by launching a 2-run home run, his 20th blast of the season. Nuñez (2 BB, R, SB) and Davis had 2 hits apiece.

Tonight, the Hooks will begin their final home series of the season, a 3-game set with San Antonio. Rogelio Armenteros will face Kyle Lloyd at 7:00.

Enrique Chavez allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3 over 7 strong innings. Wisconsin got the go-ahead run off of Nick Hernandez, who went 2 innings and allowed 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2.

The ValleyCats tied the game at 3 in the 8th .... only to see Lowell SS C.J. Chatham put the Spinners back in front with a 2-run homer in the top of the 9th. TC managed to pull a run back in the 9th, but they stranded the tying run on 2nd to end the game.

Tyler Wolfe scored the first run of the evening on an error in the 3rd that allowed Carmen Benedetti to reach. Kevin Martir hit an RBI single in the 6th, and he added a sac fly to his ledger in the 8th inning, and Benedetti hit a sac fly to bring the ValleyCats to within a run. Jorge Guzman and Juan Robles joined forces to keep Danville off the board; Guzman allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 7 over 5 innings, and Robles pitched the final 4 innings, allowing 4 hits and fanning 4.

Ruben Castro led off the 3rd with a single and scored the first run of the game on an error following a Frankeny Fernandez sacrifice bunt. Castro scored another run off another error in the 5th inning; this miscue came off a single from Abraham Toro. Not long after, Fernandez scored on a balk. Troy Sieber doubled to lead off the 8th and came around to score on a Carlos Machado single. Toro, Machado, Castro, and Stijn van der Meer all finished 2-4.

Blanco allowed a hit and struck out 3 in 3 innings of work, and Ramirez went 2 innings, allowing 3 hits, walking 1, and striking out 2. Gabriel Valdez allowed a hit and struck out 3 over 3 scoreless, and Josue Uribe walked 1 and struck out 2 in the 9th to get the save.

Wander Franco opened the scoring with an RBI single, and Jose Benjamin grounded into a force out that allowed Ronny Jimenez to score. Jimenez and Randy Vasquez both finished 2-4.

Fresno home runs: A.J. Reed (15, 2-run in 1st), Jon Kemmer (10, 2-run in 8th)

Looks like A.J. Reed is back to being A.J. Reed; he finished 3-4 and opened up the scoring with a 2-run home run in the 1st inning. The Aces tied the game in the bottom of the 1st, but Fresno finished the game on a 5-1 run.

Nolan Fontana led off the 3rd with a double, advanced to 3rd on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a wild pitch. Tony Kemp drew a bases-loaded walk in the 4th inning. Jon Kemmer has gotten his bat going in the second half as well; he clubbed a 2-run home run in the 8th inning, his 10th homer of the year. Reed capped off the night with an RBI double in the 9th. Kemmer and Jon Singleton both finished 2-4 on the night.

Edison Frias went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 2. Kevin Chapman pitched 2 innings, and the one run he allowed came on a home run hit by Carlos Rivero. Chapman allowed one other hit, walked 2, and struck out 4. James Hoyt recorded a strikeout in a 1-2-3 9th inning.

The Grizzlies got a nice outing from Mike Hauschild to take 3 of 4 from the Aces.

Hauschild allowed a run on 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 2 in 7 innings of work. Brendan McCurry and Jandel Gustave both pitched a scoreless inning; McCurry worked around 2 hits to throw a scoreless 8th, striking out 2, and Gustave worked around an error to get the save, striking out the side in the 9th.

Nolan Fontana scored Fresno's first run on a double play in the 3rd inning, which tied the game at 1. Jon Kemmer launched a solo home run in the 6th to put the Grizz in front. Tyler Heineman hit an RBI single in the 7th, and Andrew Aplin capped off the scoring with a solo homer in the 9th inning. Aplin (solo HR, 2 R) and Fontana (2B, R) had 2 hits apiece, while Heineman finished 3-4.

The next leg of the Grizzlies' roadtrip will take them to Las Vegas, where they'll play 5 games; there will be a doubleheader on Thursday. In game 1 of this series, Brad Peacock will face Duane Below. First pitch is at 7:05 Pacific.

The Hooks erupted for 5 runs in the 5th inning to seize control of this one.

Trent Thornton turned in 6 solid innings on the mound for Corpus; the one run he allowed came on a solo homer hit by Rocky Gale in the 5th. Thornton allowed 6 other hits and struck out 7 in his outing. In his Texas League debut, Kevin Comer went 2 innings and allowed 3 runs, all of which scored on two home runs, which happened to be all the hits he allowed. He also walked 1 and struck out 1. Aaron West struck out 2 in a 1-2-3 9th to get the save.

Chase McDonald walked to lead off the bottom of the 5th, and one batter later, Alejandro Garcia put Corpus on the board and in the lead with a 2-run homer. Later in the inning, J.D. Davis ripped a 2-run double and came around to score on a D.J. Fisher single. Garrett Stubbs whacked a solo homer in the 7th, and McDonald capped off the evening with a solo homer in the 8th.

Stubbs (solo HR, 2 R), Davis (2 2B, 2 RBI, R, SB), Mott Hyde, and Tony Nuñez all finished 2-4 in the game. The stolen base was Davis' first of the season.

Tuesday: Corpus Christi 4, San Antonio 2

Both teams only had one scoring inning, but the Hooks had the bigger inning. They also got a dominating start from Francis Martes on Tuesday.

The two runs that Martes allowed in his 6.1 innings came on a home run hit by Josh VanMeter in the 7th inning, which was a mildly disappointing ending to an otherwise excellent night. Martes allowed 4 other hits, walked 1, and struck out a career-high 12. Ryan Thompson came on and allowed a hit over 1.2 scoreless. Aaron West threw a 1-2-3 9th to record his 15th save.

All 4 Hooks runs came in the 2nd inning. Mott Hyde opened the scoring with an RBI single. Ramon Laureano hit a pop-fly single to load the bases, and Garrett Stubbs followed by drawing a walk to bring in another run. Nick Tanielu later added a 2-run single. Tanielu, Hyde, Laureano, and James Ramsay all finished with 2 hits on the night.

The Hooks will look for the sweep tonight as Evan Grills takes the mound. He'll face Dinelson Lamet at 7:05.

Monday: Lancaster 7, Lake Elsinore 6

Lancaster home runs: Bobby Boyd (9, 3-run in 7th)

The JetHawks only scored in one inning on Monday, but they made sure to score enough in order to get the victory. That one big inning was the 7th, and the JetHawks scored all 7 of their runs in that one frame.

Drew Ferguson kicked things off with a single. He advanced to 2nd on a Trent Woodward groundout and scored Lancaster's first run on an Osvaldo Duarte single. Aaron Mizell followed by laying down a bunt single, and on the ensuing error, he advanced to 2nd, while Duarte scored. Jamie Ritchie followed by drawing a walk. A passed ball allowed Mizell and Ritchie to advance. Marc Wik, who was hitting at the time, walked to load the bases. Brooks Marlow followed with a 2-run double, but Wik was thrown out at the plate for the second out of the inning. Johnny Sewald drew a walk, which prompted a Lake Elsinore pitching change. After Sewald stole 2nd (19, 35 season), Boyd put the finishing touches on the huge inning with a 3-run home run. Duarte finished 3-4 and was the only player in the Lancaster lineup with a multi-hit game.

Brock Dykxhoorn went 4.1 innings and allowed 3 runs on 6 hits (2 solo homers), walked 3, and struck out 5. Scott Weathersby tagged in for 3.2 innings, and the one run he allowed came on a solo homer hit by Ty France in the 7th. He allowed 2 other hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. Jacob Dorris allowed a 2-run homer to Fernando Perez in the 9th which cut the Lancaster lead to one run, but he pulled himself together to get the final two outs of the game. The homer was the only hit that Dorris allowed in the inning, and only one of the runs was earned. He also struck out one.

Tuesday: Lake Elsinore 10, Lancaster 9 in 12 innings

Lancaster home runs: Osvaldo Duarte (3, 6 season. 2-run in 2nd)

The JetHawks saw a 7-1 lead vanish, and then they had to mount a rally that ultimately fell short.

Bryan Muñiz put Lancaster on the board and in the lead with a 2-run double in the 1st inning. The JetHawks scored 4 runs in the 2nd inning; Osvaldo Duarte whacked a 2-run homer, Yulieski Gurriel ripped an RBI double, and Muñiz added a sac fly. Keach Ballard added an RBI single in the 3rd inning. This would be their last scoring play until the 12th; in the meantime, the Storm scored 3 runs in 3 separate innings to take a 10-7 lead. The JetHawks got a pair of RBI singles from Jamie Ritchie and Osvaldo Duarte to cut the deficit to one run, but Ballard and Johnny Sewald went down on strikes to end the game. Ritchie (RBI, 2 R), Duarte (2-R HR, 3 RBI, SB), and Drew Ferguson all had 2 hits, while Gurriel finished 3-4 with the RBI double and scored a run.

Josh James went 4 innings and allowed 6 runs (2 inherited runners charged to him) on 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. Ryan Deemes tagged in for 3 innings and allowed a run on 4 hits (3-run homer; 2 runs were charged to James) and struck out 4. Andrew Thome allowed 2 hits over 3.1 scoreless innings, and Alex Winkelman allowed 3 runs on 3 hits and walked 2 in 1.2 innings.

Dex McCall opened the scoring with an RBI groundout. Randy César followed with an RBI single, and Hector Roa smashed a 2-run double. Roa, Kyle Tucker, and Myles Straw all finished 2-4.

Franklin Perez went 5 innings and allowed 4 runs on 6 hits (solo homer), walked 2, and struck out 5. Albert Abreu tagged in for 4 innings and allowed 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. David Schmidt came out for the 10th inning, and Chris Iriart, a former Houston Cougar, greeted him with a solo homer that gave the Snappers the win.

The Banditos won the first two games of their series with the Snappers, but they ended up having to settle for the split.

Kyle Tucker finished 2-4 and was the entire offense; he hit a solo home run in the 4th and added an RBI single in the 8th inning. Myles Straw stole a base (16) and also went 2-4 at the plate.

Yoanys Quiala allowed 7 runs (5 earned, 2 inherited runners charged to him) on 8 hits (2-run homer), walked 2, and fanned 6 in 5.1 innings. Justin Ferrell recorded the final 2 outs of the 6th and the first out of the 7th inning; an inherited runner was charged to him in the 7th inning when Adam Whitt threw a wild pitch. The one hit that Ferrell allowed was a ground-rule double in the 6th that allowed the two runners he inherited from Quiala to score; he also walked 3 and struck out 1. Whitt struck out 1 in 1.2 innings.

Quad Cities will begin a 3-game series in Peoria tonight at 7:00. Matt Bower will start the series opener against Ronnie Williams.

Monday Game 1: Tri-City 2, Lowell 1 in 8 innings

Both teams scored a run in the 2nd inning, but the ValleyCats had the final say in this one as they walked off with a win in game 1.

Tri-City's run in the 2nd inning came on a Brauly Mejia double. Marcos Almonte walked to lead off the 8th and wound up scoring the winning run on a Chuckie Robinson double.

Dustin Hunt and Carlos Sierra both pitched 4 innings. Hunt allowed a run on 5 hits and fanned 5, while Sierra allowed a hit and struck out 3.

All three of Tri-City's runs in game 2 were scored in the 5th inning. Rodrigo Ayarza ripped an RBI triple, and one batter later, Ryne Birk whacked a 2-run home run. Ayarza finished 3-4 and was the only player on either side to have a multi-hit game in game 2.

Enrique Chavez went 4 innings and allowed 6 runs on 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. Sean Stutzman pitched the final 3 innings and allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3.

Tuesday: Tri-City 3, Lowell 2

A 6th-running run turned out to be the difference for the ValleyCats as they took 2 of 3 from the Spinners.

Alex De Goti scored Tri-City's first run of the day on an inning-ending 4-3-5 double play. Ryne Birk doubled to lead off the 4th and scored on a single from Chuckie Robinson. Birk got plunked with one out in the 6th, advanced to 3rd on an errant pickoff throw, and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. He finished 3-3 on the day, while Ronnie Dawson went 2-3.

In his ValleyCats debut, Tyler Britton allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. Ryan Hartman allowed a run on 2 hits and fanned 6 in 3.1 innings, and Kevin Hill finished it off with 3 scoreless, allowing a hit and striking out 1.

The ValleyCats will begin a 3-game series in Aberdeen tomorrow at 7:05 Eastern.

The Appy Astros blew this game wide open with a 6-run 5th inning that gave them an 8-1 lead.

Jonathan Arauz led off the game with a triple and scored the first run of the evening on a sac fly from Jonathan Matute. Arauz added an RBI single to his ledger in the 2nd. The K-Mets got on the board with a run in the 4th, but the real fun began in the 5th.

Matute doubled to lead off the inning and scored on an error that allowed Abraham Toro to reach and advance to 2nd. Connor MacDonald, who got hit by a pitch after Matute's double, advanced to 3rd and scored on a sac fly from Chaz Pal. Ruben Castro followed with an RBI single. Reiny Beltre followed with an RBI single, and in his second plate appearance of the inning, Matute drew a bases-loaded walk. MacDonald got plunked again to bring in another run. Matute capped off a big night with an RBI double in the 7th.

The two Jonathans wreaked havoc on Monday; Arauz finished 3-5 with a triple, an RBI, and scored twice, while Matute's two hits were both doubles.

Salvador Montaño went 4 innings and allowed an unearned run on a passed ball, a double, walked 4, and struck out 6. Nathan Thompson allowed a run on 3 hits and struck out 3 in 3 innings, and Abdiel Saldaña struck out 1 over 2 perfect innings.

Miguelangel Sierra wasted little time in getting Greeneville on the board; he led off the game with a home run. Gabriel Bracamonte hit an RBI triple in the 2nd inning. He eventually scored when Frankeny Fernandez stole 2nd and the throw down was misfired. Bracamonte added a sac fly to his ledger in the 3rd. Jonathan Matute hit a 2-run single in the 6th to bring in the final two Greeneville runs. Chaz Pal (2 2B) and Sierra (2B, solo HR) finished with 2 hits.

Ricardo Castro went 2 innings and allowed 4 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits (2-run homer), walked 1, and struck out 1. Devon Carr allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2 in a scoreless 3rd inning.
