The E-Train administered a beatdown to close out a series and they administered another beatdown to begin a new series.

José Urquidy allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out eight over six shutout innings. Ralph Garza Jr. was the first man out of the Round Rock bullpen and he went two innings, walking one and striking out one. Ronel Blanco allowed a hit in the 9th but was able to complete the shutout without further incident.

The Express wasted little time in pouring it on as they scored four in the top of the 1st inning. Josh Rojas got things started with a two-run double and he eventually scored on a Taylor Jones sac fly. Drew Ferguson, who walked in front of Jones, scored on Nick Tanielu's triple. Aníbal Sierra grounded into a force out that allowed Jones to score in the 4th and they got two more runs on a sac fly from Alex De Goti and a wild pitch that allowed Oscar Campos to come home.

Rojas doubled to lead off the 9th and one batter later, Yordan Alvarez launched a two-run homer. Ferguson and Jones followed with singles and Sierra capped off the evening with an RBI single that brought Ferguson home.

Rojas finished 3-5 and all three of his hits were doubles. De Goti, Tanielu, and Campos all finished 2-5 on the night.

Game two of this series will start at 6:35 Mountain. Cionel Pérez getting recalled to Houston has thrown the Round Rock rotation out of whack for the time being, so whoever gets the start will take on former Astro Nick Tropeano.

Amarillo 12, Corpus Christi 3

The Sod Poodles put up crooked numbers in all of the innings in which they scored and buried the Hooks on Friday.

Seth Beer led off the 2nd with a homer. Unfortunately, between this play and Corpus Christi's next scoring play, Amarillo went on a 12-0 run. The Hooks scored twice in the 9th as Chuckie Robinson came home on a double play and Ramiro Rodríguez hit an RBI single. No one in the Corpus lineup had more than one hit.

Bryan Abreu went four innings and allowed three runs on four hits, walked one, and struck out seven. Yohan Ramirez came out for the 5th to make his second Texas League appearance. He got two outs via the strikeout, but I think he'd like a do-over. Carlos Sanabria didn't fare much better; he allowed two runs on two hits, walked two, and struck out one in 1.1 innings. Tommy DeJuneas was the only Corpus pitcher to turn in a scoreless outing as he allowed a hit and struck out two in two innings. Carlos Canelón got the 9th and he allowed three runs on four hits, one of which was a two-run homer.

Cristian Javier will take on Kyle Lloyd in game three of this series. First pitch is at 7:15.

Wilmington 2, Fayetteville 0

There was one scoring play in this game and it did not belong to the Woodpeckers.

Jacob Meyers and Miguelangel Sierra had two hits apiece. Meyers doubled to lead off the game and that turned out to be the only extra-base hit of the game.

Chad Donato allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out four over six shutout innings. Wilmington got to Brett Conine for a two-run single in the 7th that was the one scoring play in this game. Conine allowed two other hits, walked two, and struck out three over the final two innings.

Shawn Dubin gets the start in game three of this series. He'll face Jackson Kowar at 6:05 Eastern.

Quad Cities 2, Kane County 0

QC home runs: None.

Normally, when a team's pitchers issue ten walks in a game, their team usually loses. This game proved to be the exception, however, as R.J. Freure and Julio Robaina battled their wildness and somehow managed to keep the Cougars off the board at the same time.

The Banditos also returned to the Quad Cities after another flood threat forced them to move the previous series to Peoria.

Both of them allowed two hits and walked five. Freure struck out six in 5.1 innings, while Robaina struck out two over the final 3.2 innings to complete the shutout.

Jeremy Peña opened the scoring with an RBI infield single in the 5th and Trey Dawson added a sac fly in the 6th inning. Peña, Austin Dennis, and Freúdis Nova all finished 2-4 on the evening.

Game two of this series will begin at 6:35.

DSL Astros 5, DSL Athletics 1

The DSL team continued their fine start to the season.

Reimy Beltre pitched two innings and allowed a run on a bases-loaded walk, one of two walks that he issued, and struck out three. Jherson Pereira tagged in for five innings and he allowed a hit, walked two, and struck out seven. Ronny Garcia got the last two innings and allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out three.

Ricardo Balogh put the Academy on the board with a two-run single in the 4th. Omar Díaz ripped an RBI double in the 6th and then stole home as part of a double steal. Junior Marte, who stole second on the double steal and then moved to third on an errant throw, scored on Frank Perez's groundout. Díaz and Marte scored two runs apiece.

The DSL Astros' next two games will be against the Braves. They'll host the Braves at their complex at 11:30 AM Atlantic.

The Sounds smacked four homers to derail the Express.

Ryan Hartman went five innings and allowed five runs on six hits (two solos and a two-run homer) and struck out three. Akeem Bostick was the first man out of the Round Rock bullpen and the one run he allowed in his 3.1 innings came on a solo homer hit by Patrick Wisdom, who took Hartman deep for a solo homer earlier in the game. Bostick allowed one other hit and struck out two. Reymin Guduan allowed a hit and got the last two outs of the 9th via strikeout.

Myles Straw went 3-5 with a couple of RBI singles in the 3rd and the 9th. Derek Fisher also went 3-5 and hit an RBI single in the 9th before Straw hit his second one. Yordan Alvarez finished 2-5 and got to face the man he was traded for, Josh Fields.

Cionel Pérez faces Wes Benjamin in game four of this series. First pitch is at 1:05.

Corpus Christi 9, Midland 6

Corpus stormed out to a 9-1 lead and withstood a late Midland charge to get the victory.

Ronnie Dawson put the Hooks on the board with a two-run single in the 2nd inning and he came home himself on Chuckie Robinson's infield single. Stephen Wrenn hit a one-out double in the 3rd and one batter later, Seth Beer connected for his first Texas League homer. Osvaldo Duarte hit an RBI single in the 4th and Chas McCormick whacked a three-run homer in the 5th. Beer and Dawson both finished 3-4 on the night.

Carson LaRue went five innings and allowed a run on three hits, walked one, and struck out one. Brandon Bailey was the first man out of the Corpus bullpen and he went three innings, allowing five runs on six hits (three-run homer), walking three, and striking out two. Kit Scheetz, who was pitching on his birthday, allowed a hit and struck out the side in the 9th to earn the save.

J.B. Bukauskas will get the start in the series finale. He'll face James Naile at 2:00.

Carolina 6, Fayetteville 4

Fayetteville home runs: None.

The Woodpeckers erased a 4-0 deficit with four runs in the 4th to tie, but the Mudcats regained control with two runs in the 5th.

Fayetteville parlayed a bases-loaded situation to lead off the 4th into their four runs. Colton Shaver put the Woodpeckers on the board with an RBI single, Scott Manea ripped a two-run double, and Scott Schreiber hit a sac fly. Jonathan Arauz finished 3-4 with a double and scored a run.

Chad Donato allowed six runs (three earned, two inherited runners charged to him) on six hits (three-run homer), walked four, and struck out four in four innings. Tommy DeJuneas walked one and struck out five over three hitless innings, but two of the runners he inherited from Donato scored on sacrifice flies. Willy Collado allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out four in two scoreless innings.

The Woodpeckers will look to avoid the sweep at 2:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 6, Peoria 2

The Banditos only scored in one inning but it was enough to give them the win. This series has been characterized by big innings and after the Chiefs had an eight-run inning on Friday, Quad Cities put up six in the 4th on Saturday.

All six Quad Cities runs in the 4th came with two outs. Jonathan Lacroix kept the inning alive by drawing a walk and one batter later, Trey Dawson started the assault with a two-run home run. Ross Adolph ripped a double and he came home when Austin Dennis took his place at second following a double of his own. Dennis scored on a single from Ramiro Rodríguez. After Jeremy Peña singled, Alex McKenna hit a two-run double.

Round Rock's bats were held in check on Friday as they could only push across one run in each of the final two innings.

Jack Mayfield ripped an RBI double in the 8th and Alex De Goti did the same in the 9th inning. De Goti, hitting in the leadoff spot for the first time this season, finished 3-4. Derek Fisher went 2-3 and scored on Mayfield's double.

Rogelio Armenteros pitched 4.1 innings and allowed three runs (one inherited runner charged to him) on five hits (solo homer), walked two, and struck out seven. Brendan McCurry was the first man out of the Express bullpen and he threw 2.2 innings, allowing two hits and striking out three. Dean Deetz was only able to get one out in the 8th via strikeout; he allowed two runs (one inherited runner charged to him) on two hits and walked one. Tanner Duncan pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowing a hit and striking out one.

Brady Rodgers faces Dustin Beggs in game four of this series. First pitch is at 7:05.

The Drillers decided to ruin Bryan Abreu's Texas League debut.

José Hernández-Urquidy went five innings and allowed two runs on five hits while striking out seven. Abreu went three innings in his Texas League debut and was greeted rather rudely in the 6th as the Drillers got four runs off of him in the 6th, three of which came on a home run. Fortunately, Abreu managed to pull himself together and ended up allowing three hits, walking three, and striking out five. Brendan Feldmann worked around a couple of hits to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out one.

Both teams scored two runs in the 4th; Corpus Christi got theirs in the form of back-to-back solo home runs from Abraham Toro and Granden Goetzman. Osvaldo Duarte went 2-4 and smacked an RBI triple in the 5th. Goetzman and Aníbal Sierra also finished with two hits on the night.

Carson LaRue will get the start in game two. He'll take on J.D. Martin at 7:15.

Down East 1, Fayetteville 0

Fayetteville home runs: None.

There was only one run in this game and unfortunately, it did not belong to the Woodpeckers.

Fayetteville could only get a double from Jacob Meyers and singles from Bryan de la Cruz and Jonathan Arauz. Arauz (2) and Corey Julks (4) both stole a base.

The Woodpeckers' pitchers did their job; they didn't get any run support, however. Cristian Javier went 4.1 innings and allowed two hits, walked three, and struck out eight. Willy Collado pitched three innings and allowed the one run, which was unearned (due to an error) and an inherited runner that was charged to him. Collado also allowed a single, walked two, and struck out six. Tommy DeJuneas got the last two outs of the 8th inning, but in between, the error occurred and the run scored.

Parker Mushinski will start game two of this series. First pitch is at 6:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 7, Clinton 6 in 12 innings

QC home runs: Alex Holderbach (1, walk-off 2-run in 12th)

The first game at Modern Woodmen Park in 2019 was a walk-off extra-innings victory for the Banditos.

Cody Deason pitched 3.2 innings and allowed two runs on three hits, walked three, and struck out eight. Matt Ruppenthal was the first man out of the Quad Cities bullpen and turned in 4.1 dominant innings, allowing just one walk and striking out six. Humberto Castellanos was next; he went three innings and allowed three runs (one earned, one inherited runner charged to him) on four hits (solo homer) and struck out five. The homer that he allowed tied the game in the 9th. Devin Conn allowed a run on two hits, walked two, and struck out two in the 12th.

A Clinton error in the 1st allowed Enmanuel Valdez and Scott Schreiber to score the first two runs of the evening. Schreiber scored again on an RBI single from Austin Dennis in the 3rd inning. That was the River Bandits' last scoring play until extra innings; in the meantime, the LumberKings scored four unanswered runs and took the lead in the top of the 11th.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th, Jeremy Peña was able to beat a potential double play, which allowed Ross Adolph to score the tying run. Clinton scored twice in the top of the 12th to regain the lead, but the Banditos found the answer. Valdez started the bottom of the 12th in scoring position. Schreiber struck out, but David Hensley came through with an RBI single to cut the deficit to one run. One batter later, Alex Holderbach sent the first crowd at Modern Woodmen Park home happy by launching a two-run home run.

Marty Costes went 3-5 with a stolen base (3) from the leadoff spot. Schreiber (2B, 2 R, SB) and Holderbach (2B, walk-off 2-R HR) both finished with two hits on the night.

There was a doubleheader scheduled for today, but it's been moved to Sunday. Instead, Quad Cities and Clinton will play one game at 5:00. Luis Garcia will take on Chris Vallimont.

The Grizzlies couldn't seem to find the strike zone on Thursday. They held the Rainiers to five hits but they also issued 11 walks on the night. They very nearly snatched the win late but couldn't get the tying run across.

Yordan Alvarez opened the scoring by launching his first AAA home run in the 2nd inning. Two batters later, Jamie Ritchie whacked his first AAA homer and also his first homer of the year. A.J. Reed hit a sac fly in the 8th. Myles Straw finished 4-5 and stole a couple of bases, which gives him 50 thefts on the season.

Cy Sneed allowed a run on a bases-loaded walk, a hit, walked six, and struck out four in his 2.2 innings. Ralph Garza Jr. and Reymin Guduan threw 1.2 innings apiece. Garza was first and he allowed three runs (two earned, one inherited runner charged to him) on two hits, walked two, and struck out three. Guduan allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out four. Riley Ferrell and Buddy Boshers both turned in scoreless innings; Ferrell walked one and struck out one in the 7th, while Boshers walked one and fanned two in the 8th.

Midland 6, Corpus Christi 5

The RockHounds stunned the Hooks by launching two home runs with two outs in the bottom of the 9th to walk off with the win.

Chas McCormick led off the game with a base hit. He proceeded to steal second and then scored the first run of the evening when Stephen Wrenn smacked a triple. Wrenn wound up scoring on a Randy César sac fly. César ripped an RBI double in the 4th and he later scored on a Ryne Birk sac fly. Birk doubled to lead off the 9th and scored on a wild pitch. McCormick, Josh Rojas, and Alex De Goti all finished with two hits on the night. McCormick also stole a base, which gives him five thefts with Corpus Christi and 12 on the year.

Brandon Bielak allowed an unearned run on six hits, walked one, and struck out five in five innings. In his Texas League debut, Hector Perez went two innings and allowed a run on three hits while striking out two. Erasmo Pinales threw a scoreless 8th... and I'm sure that he'd like a neuralizer treatment after that 9th inning.

Framber Valdez will get the start in game three of this series. First pitch is at 7:00.

Buies Creek 2, Down East 0

The Carolina Stros kept the Wood Ducks off the board to earn a split in the latest iteration of the Lone Star Series in North Carolina.

Brandon Bailey started things off by allowing three hits, walking one, and striking out six over five shutout frames. Brett Adcock tagged in for three innings and allowed two hits while striking out four, and in his system debut, Tommy DeJuneas struck out one in a 1-2-3 9th.

Bryan de la Cruz reached on an error in the 1st that also allowed Jake Meyers and Osvaldo Duarte to score. Those were the only two runs of the game. Meyers finished 2-4 with a double.

Buies Creek will start a four-game series in Winston-Salem at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 4, Dayton 3

There was some shambolic defense being played in this one as the two teams combined for nine errors. The Dragons doubled up the Banditos in that category...

Peter Solomon had an unearned run charged to him thanks to an error in his five innings of work. He also allowed a hit, walked two, and struck out five. Parker Mushinski allowed two runs on a homer, two other hits, issued an intentional walk, and struck out two in three innings. Tanner Duncan shut the door by striking out one in a 1-2-3 9th.

Marty Costes walked to lead off the 2nd and David Hensley joined him on the bases after a base hit. They both scored on an error that saw Mike Papierski reach and advance to second base. Papierski scored in the 4th when Alfredo Angarita grounded into a force out. Angarita put Quad Cities back in front when he ripped an RBI double in the 8th inning. Miguelangel Sierra finished 2-5 with a double; the Banditos won despite going 0-16 with runners in scoring position.

César Rosado struck out a career-high 12 in his previous start; what will he have in store as he takes the mound for the series finale? He'll face Wendolyn Bautista at 6:00 Eastern.

Tri-City 5, Williamsport 3

The ValleyCats staved off a late uprising from the Crosscutters to even the series.

Luis Encarnación opened the scoring when he whacked a homer to lead off the 3rd inning. Austin Dennis smacked an RBI double in the 4th and added an RBI single to his ledger in the 6th. Carlos Machado added a sac fly later in the 6th. Alex McKenna, who scored on that sac fly, went 3-4 and ripped an RBI triple in the 7th. Dennis's two hits resulted in runs, and Jeremy Peña went 2-3 with three runs scored and a couple of walks.

Shawn Dubin started it off with three scoreless innings, allowing a hit and striking out two. Brett Conine walked two and struck out one over 2.2 no-hit innings. Mark Moclair was cruising along until he hit the wall in the 8th inning. He allowed three runs (one inherited runner charged to him) on three hits, walked one, and struck out five in 1.2 innings. Eleven of the last twelve outs that Moclair has recorded have been strikeouts. Hansel Paulino also threw 1.2 innings and allowed a sac fly that allowed one of Moclair's runners to score and he also issued a walk.

The rubber game of this series will start at 7:05 Eastern.

GCL Astros 6, GCL Nationals 1

A late outburst spurred the Palm Beach Stros to a win over their complex mates.

A couple of Fresno pitchers started it off with rehab appearances. David Paulino allowed a hit and struck out three over three scoreless innings and Matt Ramsey started his rehab stint by navigating out of a bases-loaded jam in the 4th. He allowed three hits and struck out one. Kyle Serrano struck out two in a 1-2-3 5th. Angel Macuare allowed a run on four hits and struck out three in three innings, and Jervic Chavez worked around a hit and a walk to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out one.

Nathan Perry had a solid day at the plate as he finished 3-4, opening the scoring with a double in the 4th inning. The GCLstros got two in the 6th on a sac fly from Freudis Nova and Perry later added an RBI single to his ledger. Carlos Diaz grounded into a force out that allowed Yeuris Ramirez to score in the 7th and they got two more in the 8th when Wilyer Abreu scored on a passed ball and Juan Ramirez capped off the day with an RBI single.

The Academy walked off with the win thanks to three in the bottom of the 11th.

Alfredi Jimenez allowed a hit and struck out four over three scoreless innings. He was the only DSLstros pitcher to turn in a scoreless outing. Franny Cobos was the first man out of the DSL bullpen and he went two innings, allowing a run on two hits, walking two, and striking out three. Alex Blanco came on for the 6th but only got two outs, one via strikeout; the Braves got to him for a couple of runs on a wild pitch and a fielder's choice. Blanco also allowed a hit and walked three. He left two men on for Jherson Pereira, who spared him from further damage. Pereira went 2.1 innings and allowed a run on three hits and walked two. Jeremy Molero was next and he allowed an unearned run on a single, walked one, and struck out three. Cristofer Mezquita allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits, walked one, and struck out two in the top of the 11th.

Abraham Castillo led off the 2nd with a double and an error on the play allowed him to advance to third. He scored the first run of the day on a sac fly from Ricardo Toro. Franklin Pinto scored on an error in the 3rd as he took advantage of an errant throw from the catcher as Enmanuel Morillo took second. In the 5th, Jonarkys Lopez scored on a wild pitch and Jose Mendoza scored on a Yefri Carrillo groundout. That would be the last time that the Astros would score until extra innings.

Carrillo started the 10th in scoring position; he moved to third on a bad pickoff attempt and scored on a single from Morillo. Jose Alvarez started the 11th at second and didn't have to wait too long to score as Mendoza led off the inning with an RBI base hit. Pinto drew a walk but was forced out at second. Carrillo stole second, however. Mendoza scored the tying run on a Jeury Castillo groundout and Victor Mascai won it with an RBI single.

Morillo and Mendoza both went 2-4 on the day. Carrillo stole a couple of bases, giving him nine on the year.
