Round Rock was off

Framber Valdez gets the start for Round Rock as they start a three-game series with Omaha at 7:05.

Springfield 6, Corpus Christi 2

The Cardinals took the series on the strength of a three-run 8th inning to seal this game.

Chad Donato went 4.2 innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits, walked one, and struck out three. Enoli Paredes was the first man out of the Corpus bullpen and he allowed three runs on five hits, walked one, and struck out four in 3.1 innings. Nick Hernandez allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out one in a scoreless 9th.

Seth Beer grounded into a force out that scored Ronnie Dawson in the 3rd and Chuckie Robinson led off the 4th with a homer. Dawson stole a couple of bases, giving him 12 on the year.

The Hooks have Tuesday off and they'll start a roadtrip beginning with three in Northwest Arkansas on Wednesday.

Fayetteville 7, Potomac 5

Fayetteville home runs: Jeremy Peña (6, solo in 1st)

The Woodpeckers earned the split as they busted out for five in the top of the 3rd and withstood a long rain delay and a four-run bottom of the 3rd from the P-Nats.

Jeremy Peña banged a ball off the scoreboard in the 1st inning for his first Carolina League home run. He added an RBI single to his ledger in Fayetteville's big 3rd inning and came around to score alongside Corey Julks on a double from Jacob Meyers. Meyers, who advanced to third on the throw from the outfield, scored on a single from Jake Adams. Adams rumbled home when Enmanuel Valdez ripped a double. Peña drove in the final run of the evening on a sac fly in the 6th. He, Meyers, Valdez, and Ross Adolph all finished with two hits on the night.

Austin Hansen allowed two hits and struck out three over two scoreless innings... and then the rain hit. Leovanny Rodríguez came out after play resumed and he allowed four runs on three hits, walked four, and struck out two in 1.1 innings of work. Devin Conn threw three innings and got the win in his Fayetteville debut by allowing a run on three hits, walking two, and striking out one. César Rosado walked two and struck out four over the final 2.2 innings to earn the save.

The Woodpeckers will welcome Lynchburg to SEGRA Stadium for three starting tonight at 7:00 Eastern. Jojanse Torres will get the start in game one.

Quad Cities 1, Bowling Green 0

QC home runs: None.

There was only one run in this game and it belonged to the Banditos.

Jonathan Bermúdez allowed four hits, walked two, and struck out five over six shutout frames. Hunter Martin allowed a hit and struck out three in two innings and Garrett Gayle struck out one in a 1-2-3 9th to complete the shutout.

Austin Dennis hit a sac fly in the 4th that held up in the end. Grae Kessinger and Oscar Campos both finished 2-3.

After a day off, Quad Cities will start a three-game set with Peoria tomorrow.

Tri-City 4, Vermont 2

The ValleyCats held the Lake Monsters to three hits as they took the series.

Peyton Battenfield and Derek West started things off with three innings apiece. Battenfield allowed a run on two hits and fanned four while West walked two and struck out three. Hunter Brown walked three and struck out three over two scoreless, and Shea Barry allowed an unearned run on an error, a hit, walked one, and struck out two in the 9th.

C.J. Stubbs opened the scoring with a two-run single in the 1st inning. Juan Paulino ripped an RBI double in the 4th and Luis Santana stole home in the 8th as part of a double steal with Korey Lee, who took second.

The ValleyCats are in Brooklyn for three starting at 7:00 Eastern.

GCL Astros 6, GCL Cardinals 4

GCL home runs: None.

Jairo Lopez turned in the best outing of his young career and the Palm Beach 'Stros staved off a late rally from the Cardinals to earn the win.

Lopez, in his second pro season out of Venezuela, struck out seven over five perfect innings. Franny Cobos went three innings and allowed a run on two hits and struck out one. Kevin Dickey got the 9th and it was a bit rocky, but he managed to keep himself together and finished the game. Dickey allowed three runs on two hits, walked two, and struck out one.

Triple-A All-Star Break

The 2019 Triple-A All-Star Game will take place on Wednesday in El Paso. Kyle Tucker will represent Round Rock on the Pacific Coast League All-Star Team.

Round Rock returns to action on Thursday when they welcome Iowa to Dell Diamond for a four-game series.

Frisco 7, Corpus Christi 4

CC home runs: Abraham Toro (14, solo in 4th)

A four-run 5th inning from the Roughriders helped propel them to the victory.

Abraham Toro put Corpus on the board when he smacked a solo homer in the 4th inning. The Hooks got three in the 6th thanks to an RBI double from Lorenzo Quintana, an RBI single from J.J. Matijevic, and a Stephen Wrenn sac fly. Toro finished 3-5 on the night and scored twice.

Yohan Ramírez went three innings and allowed two runs on three hits, walked four, and struck out four. Colin McKee was the first man out of the Hooks bullpen and he allowed a run (inherited runner that was charged to him), two hits, walked one, and struck out two in 1.1 innings.

Joe Smith made what's expected to be his final rehab appearance before he rejoins the Astros for the second half. He pitched an inning (final two outs of the 6th and the first out of the 7th) and allowed three runs on four hits (solo and three-run home runs) and struck out one. One of the runs on the three-run homer that Smith allowed was charged to McKee. Brett Adcock pitched the final 2.2 innings and allowed an RBI double, walked one, and struck out two.

Enoli Paredes will get the start as the Hooks look to avoid the sweep. He'll face Jason Bahr at 7:05.

Potomac 7, Fayetteville 6 (10 innings)

Fayetteville home runs: Miguelangel Sierra (7, solo in 2nd), Enmanuel Valdez (6, 3-run in 4th), Jacob Meyers (8, solo in 6th)

This may come as a shock to you, but Fayetteville walked off with another loss. This is the 11th time that the Woodpeckers have lost in walk-off fashion this season.

Shawn Dubin pitched 4.2 innings and allowed three runs (one inherited runner charged to him) on three hits, walked two, and struck out six. Joey Gonzalez got the final out of the 5th but not before allowing two hits, one of which was an RBI single that allowed the runner he inherited from Dubin to score. Brett Conine was next and he allowed two runs, both of which were inherited runners that were charged to him, on five hits, walked four, and struck out five in 3.2 innings of work. Miguel Figueroa got the final out of the 9th but the P-Nats tied the game on his watch. César Rosado got one out in the 10th and the winning run scored on a fielder's choice.

Miguelangel Sierra opened the scoring by launching a solo homer in the 2nd inning. Enmanuel Valdez whacked a three-run home run in the 4th, and Jacob Meyers led off the 6th with a homer. Jake Adams hit an RBI single in the 7th. Meyers and Jonathan Arauz both finished with two hits on the afternoon.

The two teams that Fayetteville faced on this roadtrip (Winston-Salem and Potomac) will now travel to SEGRA Stadium. The Woodpeckers will start a three-game set with the Dash at 7:00 Eastern. Nivaldo Rodríguez will start game one and he'll be opposed by Kade McClure.

Quad Cities was off

The Banditos are in Comstock Park, Michigan (just outside Grand Rapids) and they'll start a three-game series with the West Michigan Whitecaps at 7:05 Eastern. Jonathan Bermúdez will face Wilkel Hernandez in game one.

Tri-City 6, Brooklyn 5 (10 innings)

W- Michael Horrell (1-0)
L- Luis Silva (1-1)

TC home runs: Wilyer Abreu (1, solo in 3rd), Preston Pavlica (2, 3-run in 7th), Nathan Perry (3, walk-off 2-run in 10th)

The Cyclones tied the game with two in the 9th and took the lead in the first extra frame, but the ValleyCats fought back and walked off with the victory.

All of Tri-City's runs in this game came via the home run. Wilyer Abreu put Tri-City on the board when he led off the 3rd with one, the first of his professional career. Preston Pavlica put the ValleyCats in front when he launched a three-run shot with two outs in the 7th inning. Pavlica started the 10th in scoring position and he didn't have to wait long to score because Nathan Perry ended the game by leading off the bottom of the 10th with a walk-off two-run blast. Perry finished 2-4 on the day. Bryan Arias had a couple of hits and stole a base.

Juan Pablo Lopez pitched five innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and issued a walk. Valente Bellozo couldn't quite get that final out of the game. He allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out four in 3.2 innings. Michael Horrell threw 1.1 innings to get the win; he allowed a run in the 10th on a sac fly, a hit, and struck out two.

Hunter Brown will get the start as the ValleyCats welcome the State College Spikes to the Capital Region. He'll face Scott Politz, a Yale grad from Austin, at 7:05 Eastern.

GCL Marlins 13, GCL Astros 9

GCL home runs: None.

The Palm Beach 'Stros had a little comeback going with five runs in the 9th... but unfortunately, the Marlins' 8-0 lead after the first two innings held up comfortably.

Well, it wasn't a great day for the Palm Beach 'Stros' pitchers, but Jherson Pereira was a bit of a bright spot as he allowed a run on two hits, walked two, and struck out five in 3.2 innings.

Franklin Pinto and Yefri Carrillo both hit RBI doubles and scored two runs from the bottom of the order. Rolando Espinosa finished 2-4 with an RBI single in the 3rd inning.

The Astros will take on their complex mates, the Nationals, at noon Eastern.

DSL Astros 3, DSL Athletics 0

DSL home runs: None.

The Dominican 'Stros broke the deadlock late and three pitchers combined to keep the A's off the board.

Ricardo León allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out three over the first three innings. Jeremy Molero allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out six in four innings and Edinson Batista allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out three over the final two innings to complete the shutout.

Yohander Martinez singled to lead off the bottom of the 7th and he scored the first run of the game on Carlos Hurtado's triple. Hurtado came in on Andrés Monzón's single. Martinez hit an RBI infield single in the 8th; he, Hurtado, and Cristian Gonzalez all finished with two hits on the day.

These two teams will play again at the A's complex at 11:30 AM Atlantic.

Nashville 8, Round Rock 6 in 12 innings

The Express blew a 5-1 lead as they ended up dropping four of five to the last-place team in the PCL's American Northern division. Nashville scored seven of their eight runs after the 7th inning and Tim Dillard got his second win of the series; he got the other win as a starter on Friday.

Round Rock's first five runs all came on home runs. Alex De Goti clubbed a three-run homer in the 3rd and then Jack Mayfield and Kyle Tucker led off the 4th with back-to-back solo homers. De Goti hit an RBI single in the 11th that tied the game at 6. Those three home runs were the only extra-base hits for the Express in this game. De Goti (3-R HR, 4 RBI), Myles Straw (SB), Tucker (solo HR), and Nick Tanielu (2 R) all finished with two hits in the game. Straw now has 15 stolen bases on the season.

Rogelio Armenteros went five innings and the one run he allowed came on a homer hit by Delino DeShields, one of just two hits that he surrendered during his start. Armenteros also walked three and struck out five. Kent Emanuel and Ralph Garza Jr. both pitched three innings with contrasting results. Emanuel allowed a run on four hits and fanned five, while Garza allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits (solo homer) and struck out two. Jamie Ritchie was summoned to pitch and he ended up taking the loss after allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and striking out one in the 12th.

I believe that Ritchie was pitching because the Express had no one else available. Ronel Blanco and Reymin Guduan both pitched on Sunday. Akeem Bostick's last outing on Saturday came in relief and he's alternated between starting and relieving this season so I imagine that his next appearance will be as a starter. Cy Sneed could have been an option on three days' rest but if he's going to be getting work as a starter moving forward, that could have opened the Express to even more issues with their pitching staff. Brendan McCurry was placed on the IL before the game and Kit Scheetz was called up to Round Rock as a corresponding move but I don't know if he was actually available to pitch or if there were any logistical issues in getting Scheetz to Round Rock in time.

Brady Rodgers will start the first of a four-game series against San Antonio tonight at 7:05. He'll take on Thomas Jankins.

Corpus Christi 5, Amarillo 1

W- Brandon Bielak (3-0)
L- T.J. Weir (2-3)

CC home runs: None.

No extra-base hits? No problem. Corpus Christi pounded out 13 singles and five of them resulted in runs. In fact, neither team recorded an extra-base hit in this game.

Brandon Bielak was excellent in his six innings as he allowed a run on a sac fly, two hits, walked one, and struck out nine. Carlos Sanabria allowed three hits and struck out four over two scoreless innings, and in his 2019 debut, Erasmo Pinales allowed a hit and struck out two in the 9th.

Seth Beer and Ronnie Dawson opened the scoring with RBI singles in the 1st inning. Abraham Toro and Beer added (you guessed it) two more RBI singles in the 2nd and Granden Goetzman chipped in with... an RBI single in the 7th. Beer finished 3-4 on the night, while Toro, Josh Rojas, and Lorenzo Quintana all had two hits.

Bryan Abreu gets the start in game two of this series and he'll face Lake Bachar at 7:05.

Winston-Salem 6, Fayetteville 2

W- Cristian Castillo (2-5)
L- Shawn Dubin (0-3, 1-3 season)

Fayetteville home runs: None.

The Dash dashed out to a 3-0 lead after the 1st and kept the Woodpeckers at bay.

Jacob Meyers went 2-5 and his two-run double in the 7th represented the lone Fayetteville scoring play. Corey Julks finished 2-4 and both of his hits were doubles.

Shawn Dubin went four innings and allowed four runs on six hits, walked four, and struck out four. Tanner Duncan and Jacob Billingsley both pitched two innings and they both posted identical lines: they both allowed a run on two hits, walked two, and struck out one.

After a successful Carolina League debut, Brett Conine will look to keep that momentum rolling. He'll take on Jorgan Cavanerio at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 7, Kane County 5

W- Cody Deason (4-1)
L- Kenny Hernandez (4-1)

QC home runs: None.

The big inning has been a running theme recently for the Banditos and they used one of those to win the first game of this new series in suburban Chicago. Quad Cities scored five in the 7th to take control of this game.

Luis García had a rare off night as pitched five innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on four hits (two-run homer), walked four, and struck out five. Cody Deason picked him up by shutting down the Cougars, allowing two hits, walking two, and striking out a career-high nine over the final four innings. Deason also hit a batter but was excellent otherwise.

Marty Costes put the Banditos on the board with a two-run single in the 3rd. A couple of errors allowed Trey Dawson and Alex Holderbach to reach and then a one-out single from Michael Wielansky loaded the bases for Austin Dennis, who hit an RBI single to bring in Dawson and cut into the deficit. Holderbach ended up scoring on catcher's interference, which prompted Kane County to make a pitching change. Jeremy Peña was credited with an RBI on the play. Marty Costes greeted the new Cougars pitcher, Wesley Rodriguez, by bringing everyone in with a triple that put Quad Cities in front.

Quad Cities had eight hits in this game and they all belonged to four players: Dennis, Peña, Costes, and Wielansky. The top three (Dennis, Peña, and Costes) were all responsible for driving in the runs; Dennis and Peña drove in one while Costes had five. Costes has 16 RBI on the season and 12 of them have come in the last four days.

Brett Daniels faces Matt Tabor in game two of this series. First pitch is at noon.

A night of debuts... and a beatdown.

Round Rock 10, Nashville 4

RR home runs: Yordan Alvarez 2 (17; 3-run in 1st, solo in 5th), A.J. Reed (2, 2-run in 7th)

Yordan Alvarez continues to do Yordan Alvarez things. His 17 home runs puts him in a tie for the MiLB lead with Austin Riley, who was just promoted to Atlanta a couple of days ago.

Yordan opened the scoring with a three-run blast in the 1st inning and struck again with a solo shot in the 5th. Derek Fisher hit an RBI single in the 6th and A.J. Reed launched a two-run homer in the 7th. Not content with his two homers, Alvarez tacked on a two-run double and then scored on Jack Mayfield's sac fly in the 8th for good measure. He and Fisher both finished 3-5 on the night, while Alex De Goti went 2-4 and scored a couple of runs.

José Hernández-Urquidy went five innings in his Triple-A debut and he allowed three runs on five hits (solo and two-run homers) while striking out eight. Both of the homers and all of the runs he allowed came in the 4th inning. Kent Emanuel and Ronel Blanco pitched two innings apiece; Emanuel allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out one in a scoreless outing, and Blanco allowed a solo homer in the 9th and struck out one.

Midland 6, Corpus Christi 2

CC home runs: Abraham Toro (7, solo in 7th)

Abraham Toro tied this game at 2 with one swing of the bat, but the RockHounds quickly regained control as they took game one of this series out in West Texas.

Toro went 2-4 and his two-run homer in the 7th represented Corpus Christi's only scoring play of the night. Carmen Benedetti finished 2-3 at the bottom of the order.

Brett Adcock pitched five innings and he allowed two runs on three hits, walked three, and struck out one. Cristian Javier received a rude welcome to the Texas League as he allowed four runs on four hits and walked four; one of the hits was a two-run homer and all of the damage that the Hounds inflicted on him came in the 7th. Kit Scheetz allowed a hit and struck out the side in the 8th.

Tyler Ivey faces Daulton Jeffries at 7:00.

Fayetteville 6, Salem 0

Fayetteville home runs: Jacob Meyers (4, 3-run in 6th)

Jacob Meyers' huge night at the plate and a four-hit shutout propelled the Woodpeckers past the Red Sox. After dropping the opener, Fayetteville won the next three to take the series.

In his Carolina League debut, Nivaldo Rodríguez allowed two hits, walked four, and struck out six in four innings. Enoli Paredes also threw four innings, allowing two hits, walking two, and striking out six. Tanner Duncan walked one and struck out one in the 9th to complete the shutout.

Nivaldo was all over the place, but it looks like Mother Nature was the culprit, according to Patrick Obley...

Fayetteville loaded the bases in the 1st but only got one run out of it after Scott Manea got plunked, which allowed Jake Adams to come home with the first run of the evening. Jacob Meyers tripled to lead off the 3rd and scored on a double from Colton Shaver. Michael Papierski singled to lead off the 6th; he moved to third on Miguelangel Sierra's double and scored on an error that allowed Alfredo Angarita to reach. One batter later, Meyers capped off the evening with a three-run home run. Meyers finished 3-5 on the night. Shaver and Sierra both finished 2-4.

Everyone scored.

Jojanse Torres allowed a run for the first time this season when Brady Whalen hit a solo homer against him in the 1st inning. Yes, Quad Cities actually trailed in this game and they ended up finishing it on a 21-0 run. In five innings, Jojanse allowed one other hit and struck out seven. Austin Hansen tagged in for three scoreless, allowing two hits, walking one, and striking out three. Jonathan Bermúdez allowed a hit and fanned two in the 9th.

When José Bravo takes the mound for tonight's game, he will have pitched in at least one game for all four of the Astros' full-season minor league affiliates. I feel like someone has done this more recently, but the first person I can think of who did this and can actually remember doing this is Kyle Hallock, who accomplished this feat in 2013. Bravo will get the start in game two, which will begin at 6:35.

Quad Cities sweep!

Game 1 (resumed from Friday): San Antonio 10, Round Rock 9

This game was originally scheduled for Friday but was suspended due to rain. Unfortunately, the Express, doing business on Sunday as the Chupacabras, walked off with the loss after blowing a 6-1 lead.

Round Rock scored six in the opening inning thanks to a pair of RBI singles from Jack Mayfield and Yordan Alvarez. Taylor Jones landed an early haymaker when he whacked a three-run homer, and then Kyle Tucker followed up with a solo blast of his own. In the 6th inning, Alex De Goti hit a two-run single and Jamie Ritchie scored on a wild pitch. De Goti finished 2-5 from the leadoff spot. Myles Straw went 2-4 with a stolen base, his eighth of the season.

Rogelio Armenteros went three innings and the one run he allowed came on a solo homer hit by Nate Orf in the 1st inning. He allowed one other hit and struck out six. Forrest Whitley was the first man out after play resumed and let's just say that his struggles continued. He only recorded two outs in the 4th and allowed five runs on four hits (three-run homer), walked one, and struck out one. Brendan McCurry came on for three innings and allowed a run on two hits, walked two, and struck out four. Ralph Garza Jr. pitched two innings and allowed three runs on five hits, walked two, and struck out one; San Antonio scored the winning run with two outs in the 9th.

Game 2 (regularly scheduled game): San Antonio 6, Round Rock 1

RR home runs: Alex De Goti (5, solo in 6th)

Round Rock didn't fare much better in the regularly scheduled game as the Flying Chanclas got three in the 2nd and three more in the 3rd to cruise to the victory.

Cy Sneed pitched two innings and allowed five runs (two inherited runners charged to him) on six hits, walked two, and struck out three. He did not record an out in the 3rd inning. Kent Emanuel took ownership of the 3rd and the two runners he inherited from Sneed both scored. In three innings, Emanuel allowed a run of his own on two hits. Nick Tanielu threw a 1-2-3 6th as he got a groundout and two pop fly outs.

Alex De Goti's solo shot in the 6th inning was the Chupacabras' lone scoring play in this game.

Ryan Hartman will get the start in the series finale. He'll face Zack Brown at 11:05 AM.

Tulsa 9, Corpus Christi 8

The Hooks fell behind 5-0 after the 1st inning and their 9th-inning rally fell just short.

Carson LaRue only recorded one out before leaving the game. He allowed five runs (two inherited runners charged to him) on two hits (solo homer) and walked four. Brendan Feldmann was the first man out of the Corpus bullpen on Sunday afternoon; he pitched 2.2 innings and allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits (solo homer) and walked one. Colin McKee and Justin Ferrell restored order to the game with scoreless outings. McKee walked one and struck out five over 2.2 innings and Ferrell walked one and struck out two in 2.1 innings of work.

Lorenzo Quintana put the Hooks on the board with a two-run single in the 2nd inning. In the 3rd, Josh Rojas and Chas McCormick hit RBI singles and Quintana tied the game at 5 by adding an RBI double to his ledger. Unfortunately, the Drillers regained control with four in the bottom of the 3rd.

Carmen Benedetti reached on an error to lead off the 9th and Aníbal Sierra ripped a double to put two men in scoring position for Ronnie Dawson, who promptly brought them in with a single. Dawson advanced to second on a wild pitch, but Osvaldo Duarte and Abraham Toro both struck out. Granden Goetzman was able to bring Dawson in with an RBI single, but he ended up getting stranded when Josh Rojas grounded out to the pitcher to end the game. Duarte finished 3-5 on the afternoon while Rojas and Quintana had two hits apiece.

Game three between the Hooks and the Drillers will also be a matinee starting at 12:05. Whoever gets the start for Corpus will take on Mitchell White.

Down East 6, Fayetteville 5

Unfortunately, not all of the firsts in Fayetteville's inaugural season can be celebrated. They suffered a first of an unsavory kind on Sunday: getting swept in a home series. Their 9th-inning rally also fell one run short.

Jake Adams hit an RBI single in the 1st inning and then came around to score on Colton Shaver's double. Jacob Meyers hit a sac fly in the 7th and then smacked a two-run homer in the 9th to cut the Woodpeckers' deficit to one run. Sadly, they could not get the tying run home. Shaver, who is starting to get some playing time as a catcher, finished 2-4 and both of his hits were doubles. Alfredo Angarita reached in all of his plate appearances, going 2-2 with a couple of walks and a run scored. Meyers drove in the last three Fayetteville runs.

Chad Donato went five innings and allowed three runs on seven hits (two-run homer) and struck out six. Leovanny Rodríguez and Joey Gonzalez pitched two innings apiece; Leovanny allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and fanned two, while Gonzalez allowed an RBI single, walked one, and struck out three.

The Woodpeckers will have Monday off before they hit the road. They'll look to get back on track with a three-game series against Carolina starting Tuesday.

Quad Cities 4, Fort Wayne 3 in 11 innings

With this victory, the Banditos swept this past week's roadtrip and have now won six straight.

After both teams combined to put up 12 zeroes on the board, Enmanuel Valdez finally opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 7th. He'd eventually score on César Salazar's groundout. Quad Cities was retired in order in the top of the 10th and Luis Garcia stranded runners on the corners to end the bottom of the 10th.

Trey Dawson started the top of the 11th in scoring position and he scored the go-ahead run on an error that also allowed Jonathan Lacroix to reach. Lacroix scored on Valdez's second RBI single of the day. Valdez finished 3-5 on the afternoon and also doubled and stole a base (2). Jeremy Peña went 2-4 and scored on Valdez's first RBI single.

Brett Daniels and Luis Garcia both threw five innings. Daniels allowed five hits, walked three, and struck out three in a scoreless outing, while Garcia allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits, walked one, and struck out six. Devin Conn allowed a run on a groundout in the 11th and got a strikeout to end the game.

With the continued flooding problems in the Quad Cities, the River Bandits will host the Lansing Lugnuts at Banks Field, on the campus of the University of Iowa. Austin Hansen will take on Cobi Johnson at 6:35.

One night after giving up 11 in a span of four innings, the Express kept New Orleans off the board despite being outhit 8-5 in this game.

Kyle Tucker launched a solo homer in the 5th and Myles Straw hit an RBI single in the 8th. Drew Ferguson went 2-3 with a double.

Corbin Martin allowed six hits, walked one, and struck out six over five shutout innings; he also picked off two runners. Cionel Pérez tagged in for three innings and allowed a hit while striking out two, and Reymin Guduan completed the shutout by allowing a hit and striking out one in the 9th.

Rogelio Armenteros will take on former Astros farmhand Elieser Hernández in game three. First pitch is at 7:05.

Corpus Christi 4, Northwest Arkansas 3

The Hooks scored in just one inning on Thursday but it was enough for them to win the game and the series.

J.B. Bukauskas has struggled to open 2019 and I am definitely putting it lightly when I say that. However, he turned in what was easily his best outing of the season as he went four innings and allowed an unearned run on a sac fly, a double, walked two, and struck out nine. Brandon Bielak was the first man out of the Corpus bullpen and went 3.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, walking three, and striking out two. Colin McKee got the final four outs of the game to earn the save; he walked two and struck out one.

All four of Corpus Christi's runs in this game came in the 6th inning. Ronnie Dawson led off the inning by drawing a walk and then he moved to second on a bunt single from Stephen Wrenn. They both advanced on a wild pitch and Dawson scored the Hooks' first run on a single from Abraham Toro. Granden Goetzman ripped a double to bring Wrenn home. J.J. Matijevic struck out, but Chas McCormick followed with a two-run single that put the Hooks in front. McCormick, Wrenn, and Toro all finished with two hits on the night.

José Hernández-Urquidy will start the opener of a four-game series with Tulsa at 7:15. Bryan Abreu is also scheduled to appear for his Texas League debut.

Fayetteville 7, Frederick 1

The Woodpeckers bashed four home runs on their way to sweeping a series at SEGRA Stadium for the first time.

Jonathan Arauz opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 2nd inning. Bryan de la Cruz smacked a homer to lead off the 3rd and Seth Beer launched a solo shot of his own later in the inning. Beer added a sac fly to his ledger in the 5th and Jake Adams also struck with an RBI single. Adams whacked a solo homer in the 7th and Jacob Meyers capped off the evening with a solo blast in the 8th inning. Meyers went 3-4 and scored twice, while Adams and Arauz both finished with two hits apiece.

Enoli Paredes allowed just one hit, walked two, and struck out seven over 5.1 shutout innings. Jacob Billingsley, in his season debut, went 2.1 innings and allowed an unearned run on an error, walked one, and struck out six. Hunter Martin allowed a hit and walked one over the final 1.1 innings.

Next up for the Woodpeckers is the first edition of the Lone Star Series in North Carolina in 2019 as they travel to Kinston for a three-game series with the Down East Wood Ducks. Whoever gets the start for Fayetteville will take on Reid Anderson at 7:00 Eastern.

Clinton 7, Quad Cities 2

The LumberKings scored five runs in the final two innings to bust open what had been a 2-2 game.

Brett Conine had another strong outing as he allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits and struck out nine in six innings of work. Joey Gonzalez bore the brunt of Clinton's late-inning assault and I'll just leave it at that. Devin Conn got the last out of the 9th with a strikeout, but the damage was done.

David Hensley went 3-4 and he scored the first run of the afternoon when Alex Holderbach grounded into a double play in the 2nd inning. Holderbach, who finished 2-4, hit an RBI single in the 6th.

Cody Deason takes on Alberto Guerrero in game two of this series. First pitch is at 6:35. Finally, the River Bandits will have a game at Modern Woodmen Park for the first time this season.
