The Grizzlies got three solo shots.... but not much else on offense as they couldn't quite come back from an early 4-0 deficit. A.J. Reed went 2-4 on the night.

Dean Deetz went 2 innings and allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 4. Jacob Dorris and Ashur Tolliver pitched 3 innings apiece; Dorris allowed a hit and fanned 3, while Tolliver allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 4, and struck out 3. Brendan McCurry struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 9th.

Mike Hauschild gets the start in the finale. He'll face Chad Huffman at 7:05 Pacific.

Corpus Christi 10, Tulsa 7

The Hooks scored 6 in the bottom of the 9th to steal one from right under the Drillers.

Framber Valdez went 4.1 innings and allowed 3 runs (1 inherited runner charged to him) on 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. Cy Sneed was the first man out of the Corpus bullpen and went 3 innings, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits, walking 2, and striking out 4. Ryan Thompson allowed a hit and fanned 2 over 1.2 scoreless.

Both teams scored a run in the 2nd inning; Corpus got theirs on Rico Noel's first homer as a member of the Astros organization. Dex McCall launched a solo homer in the 5th, and Arturo Michelena hit a 2-run homer in the 7th that tied the game at 4. The Drillers got 3 in the 8th to re-take the lead.

Ryne Birk led off the bottom of the 9th with a single, which prompted Tulsa to make a pitching change. McCall greeted new Drillers pitcher Shea Spitzbarth with a single. Michelena went down on strikes, but Colin Walsh hit an RBI single to cut the Tulsa lead to 7-5. Tony Nuñez singled to load the bases for Kyle Tucker, who hit a sac fly to bring Corpus to within a run. Jamie Ritchie legged out an infield single to re-load the bases for Jason Martin, who sent the Whataburger Field crowd home in ecstasy with a walk-off grand slam while down to his last strike. Martin and McCall both finished with 3 hits on the evening.

Franklin Perez will take on Mitchell White in the series finale. First pitch is at 7:05.

The Carolina Stros got a run in the 9th to break a 2-2 tie.

Anthony Hermelyn hit a pair of RBI singles; he opened the scoring in the 2nd and drove in the go-ahead run in the 9th. Jake Rogers also went 2-3 and smacked a homer to begin the 4th. Taylor Jones went 2-4 with a double and scored what turned out to be the winning run.

Forrest Whitley went 4 innings and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits (solo homer), walked 3, and struck out 7. It was not his sharpest performance as he also uncorked 4 wild pitches. Erasmo Pinales worked around a hit to throw a scoreless 5th, striking out 1. Elieser Hernandez allowed 3 hits and struck out 1 over the final 4 innings.

Cionel Perez will start the series finale. He'll go up against former Aggie Matt Kent at 7:05 Eastern.

Quad Cities was off

The Banditos will begin a 4-game series in Cedar Rapids tonight at 6:35. Carlos Sanabria will take on Tyler Watson.

Tri-City 7, Lowell 2

The ValleyCats got back to the .500 mark thanks to a pair of 2-run blasts and a dominating outing from Corbin Martin to end the game.

Brandon Bielak allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and struck out 3 in 4 innings. Ben Smith worked around a couple of walks to throw a scoreless 5th, striking out 2. Martin shut things down for the final 4 innings, walking 1 and striking out 9 to record his first save as a pro.

J.J. Matijevic hit a one-out single in the 1st and Jonathan Arauz opened the scoring by launching a homer. Adrian Tovalin whacked a 2-run homer of his own in the 3rd inning. Tovalin scored on a wild pitch in the 6th and Kyle Davis added an RBI single not long after. Tovalin scored the last run of the evening in the 7th on another wild pitch that Colton Shaver stole 2nd on. Arauz (2-R HR, 2 R), Tovalin (2-R HR, 3 R), and Gabriel Bracamonte (3B, R) all finished with 2 hits on the night.

J.B. Bukauskas makes his Tri-City debut in the series finale. First pitch is at 6:35 Eastern.

Elizabethton 6, Greeneville 1

Greeneville home runs: None.

The Twins scored twice... in three consecutive innings to take the opener.

Jheyson Caraballo and Gerardo Bojorquez pitched 4 innings apiece. Caraballo allowed 4 runs on 7 hits (2-run homer), walked 2, and struck out 5. Bojorquez allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and fanned 5.

Jose Benjamin spoiled the shutout with a pinch-hit RBI single in the 8th inning. Patrick Mathis went 2-4 with a double.

Hansel Paulino takes on Brusdar Graterol in game 2. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

GCL Astros 4, GCL Nationals 0

GCL home runs: Juan Piñeda (2, 3 season; solo in 3rd)

The Palm Beach Stros shut out their complex mates on Wednesday, holding the Nationals to 4 hits.

Maikel Sepulveda allowed 3 hits and struck out 2 in 5 innings. Austin Kerns was the first man out of the GCLstros bullpen and went 3 innings, allowing a hit, walking 1, and striking out 1. Brendan Feldmann struck out 2 in a 1-2-3 9th to complete the shutout.

Carlos Machado went 2-4 and opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st inning. After Machado's single, Angel Tejeda scored on Trent Woodward's groundout. Juan Piñeda smacked a homer to start the 3rd. César Cortez walked to lead off the 4th, stole 2nd, then scored on two straight wild pitches. Piñeda finished 3-4 on the day.

DSL Astros Blue 16, DSL Braves 2

Blue home runs: None.

Team Blue only had one extra-base hit, but they still managed to score 16 runs thanks to 8 walks, 13 hits, and 5 Braves errors.

Antonio Pujols allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4 in 4 innings. Jose Antonio Hernandez was the first man out of the Blue team bullpen and went 3 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, walking 1, and striking out 2. Christopher Javier walked 1 and fanned 3 over the last 2 innings.

DSL Astros Orange 3, DSL Indians/Brewers 0

Orange home runs: Ramiro Rodriguez (5, solo in 5th), Marco Van Der Wijst (1, solo in 5th)

Team Orange could only push across 3 runs with their 13 hits, but they also shut out the Brewdians.

Ramiro Rodriguez and Marco Van Der Wijst launched back-to-back solo homers in the 5th to break a 0-0 tie and Deury Carrasco stole home in the 8th. Rodriguez and Van Der Wijst both finished 2-3. Sean Mendoza went 3-5, while Carrasco and Jose Castillo both went 2-4. Carrasco had 2 steals, giving him 21 on the year.

Wender Oberto allowed 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4 in 3 innings. Fredy Medina tagged in for 4 no-hit innings, walking 2 and striking out 6. Cristofer Melendez allowed a hit and struck out 2 in the final 2 innings for the save.

Tough day for the Rookie ball clubs against their Mets counterparts.

Fresno is off until Thursday

The 2017 AAA All-Star Game will take place on Wednesday, July 12, at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, Washington, home of the Tacoma Rainiers. Fresno will be represented by D.J. Fisher and Colin Moran.

The Grizzlies return to action on Thursday; Moran and Fisher don't have to go anywhere (provided that they're still with the Grizzlies) because the Grizzlies will kick off the second half of their season with a 4-game series in Tacoma.

Corpus Christi 6, Arkansas 5

W- Framber Valdez (2-1, 4-4 season)
L- Peter Tago (0-3)

CC home runs: None.

The Hooks went ahead with a couple of runs after stretch time. They also withstood a one-man show from Travs catcher Marcus Littlewood, who homered twice and drove in all 5 of Arkansas' runs.

Cy Sneed went 5 innings and allowed a 3-run homer to Littlewood in the 4th. He also allowed 6 other hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. Framber Valdez pitched the last 4 innings and Littlewood took him deep for a 2-run homer in the 6th. Framber allowed one other hit, walked 2, and struck out 4.

Ramon Laureano doubled to start the bottom of the 1st and opened the scoring by coming home on a Garrett Stubbs double. Laureano doubled again to lead off the 3rd and scored on a J.D. Davis groundout. He then added two RBI singles to his ledger in the 4th and the 6th. Jason Martin scored the tying run on an error that allowed Arturo Michelena to reach in the 7th and Laureano struck once again with an RBI triple that turned out to be the difference.

That's right... Ramon Laureano finished 5-5 on the night; it's his first career 5-hit game, and he also stole a base (18). Laureano is now on a 5-game hitting streak and all of them have been multi-hit outings. It's been a tough year for Ramon, but he's doing what he can to right the ship and he's still out there competing every time his number is called. Jason Martin's two hits were both doubles.

Collin McHugh continues his rehab in the series finale and he'll be opposed by Brett Ash. First pitch is at 7:05.

Buies Creek 4, Down East 1

BC home runs: Jake Rogers (7, 13 season; 3-run in 8th)

Jake Rogers' homer in the 8th proved to be the difference as the Carolina Stros snatched a win in Kinston.

Forrest Whitley went 5 innings in his second Carolina League start and allowed a run on 5 hits while striking out 5. Justin Ferrell pitched the last 4 innings, allowing 3 hits and striking out 3.

Myles Straw walked to begin the game, stole 2nd, then scored the first run of the day on a Ryne Birk double. Yeyson Yrizarri hit an RBI double to tie the game at 1. There was one other scoring play in this game, and it was Rogers' 3-run blast in the top of the 8th to put Buies Creek in front. Birk (2B, RBI, R) and Alex De Goti (2B) both finished with 2 hits on the day. Straw now has 25 stolen bases on the season.

Brett Adcock will start the series finale and he'll face Emerson Martinez at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 9, Clinton 3

QC home runs: Daz Cameron (9, 2-run in 2nd), Carmen Benedetti (3, solo in 2nd), Troy Sieber (1, solo in 5th)

The Banditos stormed out to an 8-1 lead after the first three innings and ended up cruising to the win.

Gabriel Valdez turned in a nice start, allowing 2 runs (both on solo homers) on 5 hits and striking out 8 in 6 innings. Robert Corniel finished it off by allowing a run on 2 hits, walking 1, and striking out 3 in 3 innings of work.

Daz Cameron singled to lead off the bottom of the 1st and scored the first run of the evening on a Chuckie Robinson triple. Robinson wound up scoring on a single from Wander Franco. Jonathan Arauz singled to start off the 2nd and scored on Daz's 2-run shot. One batter later, Carmen Benedetti sent one out for a solo homer. Quad Cities got 3 more in the 3rd as Marcos Almonte hit an RBI single and Daz added a 2-run single to his ledger. Troy Sieber whacked a solo homer in the 5th for the last River Bandits run.

Everyone in the Quad Cities lineup had a hit; Daz went 3-5 out of the leadoff spot. Robinson (3B, RBI, R), Ronnie Dawson (R), and Almonte (RBI, R) all finished with 2 hits.

Quad Cities and Clinton will conclude their series at 6:35 as Yohan Ramirez takes on Brandon Miller.

Aberdeen 5, Tri-City 4

W- James Teague (1-0)
L- Jesús Balaguer (0-1)

TC home runs: Luis Payano (2, solo in 2nd)

The ValleyCats managed to claw back from an early 4-0 hole... only to see the Ironbirds walk off with a win for the second consecutive game.

Tyler Ivey didn't make it out of the 1st inning. He only got 2 outs and allowed 4 runs on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1. Cristian Javier restored order with 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits, walking 2, and striking out 9. Jesús Balaguer had the winning run charged to him on a walk-off squeeze play. He went 2 innings and allowed 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. Diogenes Almengo couldn't extricate Balaguer from the bases-loaded predicament; he got the second out of the 9th, but then Aberdeen ran the squeeze to win the game.

Javier tied a career-high with those 9 strikeouts; he also struck out 9 in 4 innings as a member of the GCL Astros on July 18 of last year.

Luis Payano put Tri-City on the board with a solo shot in the 2nd inning. Mike Papierski doubled to lead off the 4th and scored on an error after Payano flew out. In the 6th, Andy Piñeda legged out a bunt single that scored Payano, and Miguelangel Sierra scored on a wild pitch. Payano, Piñeda, and Abraham Toro all finished with 2 hits on the evening.

Tri-City has Monday off. They'll start a 3-game series with the State College Spikes on Tuesday.

Kingsport 11, Greeneville 2

Greeneville home runs: None.

The Appy Astros briefly took the lead with a pair in the top of the 3rd, but it was all Kingsport in this one.

Greeneville's two runs came on RBI singles from Gilberto Celestino and Adrian Tovalin in the 3rd inning. Celestino and Cody Bohanek (2B) both finished 2-5.

Bryan Abreu went 3.1 innings and allowed 5 runs (4 earned, 1 inherited runner charged to him) on 4 hits (3-run homer), walked 4, and struck out 5. Adam Bleday was the first man out of the Greeneville bullpen and allowed 6 runs (5 earned, 1 inherited runner charged to him) on 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1. Ian Hardman allowed 2 hits and walked 1 in his 2.2 innings.

The Mets jumped out to a 7-1 lead after 4 innings. The Palm Beach Stros went 0-17 with runners in scoring position on Sunday.

Jose Benjamin went 2-5 and smacked a homer to start the bottom of the 2nd. Ronny Rafael hit a sac fly in the 6th and César Cortez drew a bases-loaded walk later in the frame. Juan Piñeda went 3-5 with a double.

Juan Pablo Lopez went 3 innings and allowed 7 runs (5 earned) on 10 hits (2-run homer), walked 2, and struck out 3. Devin Raftery, Johsson Arias, and Saul Martinez all followed with 2 innings. Raftery walked 1 and fanned 3. Arias allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits and struck out 1, and Martinez struck out 1 in a perfect outing.

David Martinez shook off a 2-run homer from Chris Shaw in the 1st to throw 7.1 strong innings. He allowed 3 other hits, walked 3, and struck out 5. Kevin Comer walked 1 and struck out 2 over the final 1.2 innings to get the save.

Tyler White's RBI double in the 4th put Fresno on the board. They got 2 in the 5th on a Teoscar Hernandez sac fly and a Preston Tucker single to take the lead and got a little insurance in the 9th with a Reid Brignac RBI single. Jon Kemmer (2B, 2 R) and Max Stassi (R) both finished 3-4 on the day.

Arkansas 3, Corpus Christi 2 in 12 innings

The Travs walked it off in the 12th to send the Hooks to 0-4 on their second-half tour of Arkansas.

Jack Mayfield smacked a solo shot in the 2nd to put Corpus on the board first. Jason Martin hit an RBI single in the 3rd. Tony Nuñez went 2-2 after coming on as a sub.

Charlie Morton went 4.1 innings and allowed 2 unearned runs (both inherited runners charged to him), a single, walked 2, and struck out 5. Brock Dykxhoorn was the first man out of the bullpen and came into a bases-loaded situation. Two of the runners scored. Dykxhoorn went 2.1 innings, allowing 3 hits and striking out 1. Yoanys Quiala allowed 3 hits and struck out 3 over 4.1 scoreless. Riley Ferrell got 1 out in the 12th, but allowed the winning run on 2 hits and walked 1.

Cy Sneed gets the start in game 2 of this series and he'll go up against Lindsey Caughel at 7:10.

Jorge Alcala was excellent once again and the Carolina Stros got a run after stretch time to edge the Nationals.

Alcala only allowed one hit in his 5 innings, a solo homer to Dan Gamache in the 4th. He also walked 2 and struck out 5. Matt Bower allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2 in 3 innings, and Nick Hernandez worked around a couple of hits to close it out, striking out 1.

Buies Creek got 2 in the 1st on a Ryne Birk RBI double and a Jake Rogers RBI single. Rogers ripped a double to lead off the bottom of the 7th and scored what turned out to be the deciding run on a single from Spencer Johnson. Birk (2B, RBI, R), Rogers (2B, RBI, R), and Randy César all had 2 hits on the day.

Justin Ferrell starts the finale against Hector Silvestre. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 4, Burlington 3 in 11 innings

QC home runs: Chuckie Robinson (8, 2-run in 4th)

The Banditos got 5 strong innings out of the bullpen to pick up Cionel Perez. The offense tied this game in the 8th and went ahead in the 11th inning.

Cionel Perez had a bare minimum quality start, allowing 5 hits (3-run homer), walking 2, and striking out 6. He turned in a solid outing despite ending it on a bit of a sour note with the 3-run homer. Kevin Hill struck out 4 over 4 scoreless; he faced one batter over the minimum due to an error. Erasmo Pinales worked around a couple of hits in the 11th to earn the save, striking out 1.

Chuckie Robinson smacked a 2-run homer in the 4th to open the scoring. Daz Cameron hit a 1-out single in the 8th, advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch, and scored the tying run on a Carmen Benedetti single. Josh Rojas finished 2-4 and put Quad Cities in front with a sac fly in the 11th. Daz and Benedetti both finished 2-5 with a double and a run scored.

The River Bandits and the Bees wrap up this series at 6:30. Gabriel Valdez faces Joe Gatto.

The Baby Bombers edged the ValleyCats with a run in the 8th to break a 1-1 tie.

Tri-City's only scoring play was a solo homer from Abraham Toro in the 1st inning.

Matt Ruppenthal, who was making his pro debut, allowed 2 hits and struck out 3 in 1.1 innings. Ricardo Castro was the first man out of the TC bullpen and the one run he allowed came on a solo homer from Cody Brown in the 5th. Castro allowed one other hit, walked 1, and struck out 6 in 4.2 innings. Diogenes Almengo allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1 in 2 innings.

Juan Robles takes on former Astros farmhand Jorge Guzman in the finale. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

The Appy Astros' two 3-run innings topped Kingsport's pair of one-run frames.

Felipe Tejada started on Saturday and allowed 3 hits; one of those hits turned into a run that was charged to him after play resumed. He struck out 1. Leovanny Rodriguez came on to throw 7 innings, allowing a run on 4 hits and walking 1. Austin Kerns worked around a walk and an error to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out 1.

Greeneville's first 3-run inning was the 5th. Oscar Campos ripped an RBI double, and then Gilberto Celestino scored on a passed ball. Campos moved to 3rd and scored on a Reiny Beltre sac fly. Celestino launched a solo homer and Cody Bohanek ripped a 2-run double in the 7th inning. Celestino and Frankeny Fernandez both finished 2-4.

Greeneville 3, Kingsport 1

Greeneville home runs: None.

Greeneville also took the regularly scheduled game, which was a 7-inning contest. They scored a run in more innings than the K-Mets did, so obviously, they won.

Bohanek singled in the 1st and scored the first run of this game on a wild pitch. Wilson Amador doubled to lead off the 3rd and came home on a Brody Westmoreland sac fly, and Roman Garcia ripped an RBI double in the 6th. Adrian Tovalin went 2-3 and scored on Garcia's double.

Tim Hardy allowed 2 hits and struck out 1 over 3 scoreless. Jheyson Caraballo pitched the last 4 innings and allowed an unearned run on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1.

Matt Merrill got the start but failed to record an out, allowing 3 runs (1 inherited runner charged to him) on 3 hits. Ronaldo Marrero took ownership of the 1st and also pitched the 2nd, allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits, walking 1, and striking out 2. Javier Navas went 3 innings and allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. Johsson Arias allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3 over 2 scoreless, and Chauncey Nuñez allowed a hit in a scoreless 8th.

The Grizzlies nearly clawed their way back from a 14-5 deficit. Unfortunately... no cigar.

Reid Brignac hit an RBI single in the 2nd to put Fresno on the board. In the 3rd, Tyler White hit into a fielder's choice and an error on the play allowed two runs to score. White, who advanced to 2nd on the miscue, scored on Preston Tucker's double.

A.J. Reed launched the comeback bid by whacking a homer to lead off the 6th. The elder Tucker added a sac fly, Juan Centeno hit a 2-run single, and Reed hit a 2-run single in his second plate appearance of the inning. Tony Kemp smacked a 2-run homer in the 9th to 2. White and Tucker followed Kemp's blast with singles, but they were both stranded to end the game.

Big Tuck finished 4-5 on the evening. Centeno was 3-5 with a double, his 2-run single, and scored twice. Kemp (2-R HR, 2 R), White (2 R), Reed (solo HR, 3 RBI), and Jon Kemmer (2B, 3 R) all posted 2-hit nights.

Dean Deetz got roughed up in his 3+ innings as he allowed 5 runs (2 inherited runners charged to him) on 5 hits, walked 4, and struck out 2. The Chihuahuas had 8 straight reach base to begin the 4th before the Grizzlies could record an out. Ashur Tolliver was the first man out of the Fresno bullpen but failed to record an out. He got tagged for 6 runs (3 inherited runners charged to him). allowed 3 hits, and walked 2. Tyson Perez went 2 innings, and the 3 runs that were charged to him came on a homer hit by Jabari Blash in the 5th. Perez allowed 3 other hits and walked 1. Brian Holmes stopped the bleeding with 3 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits and striking out 2.

The Hooks couldn't get much off of Arlington's top prospect, Yohander Mendez, on Friday night and had to settle for a split in the series.

Framber Valdez went 6 innings in his Corpus debut and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, walked 4, and struck out 3. The one hit that Sean Stutzman allowed in his 2 innings was a solo homer to Michael O'Neill in the 7th. Stutzman also walked 1 and fanned 3. Riley Ferrell worked around a hit to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out 1.

Jamie Ritchie's RBI single in the 6th was the Hooks' only scoring play. An error on the play allowed Garrett Stubbs to advance to 3rd, but he was stranded there to end the frame.

Corpus heads up I-37 to take on San Antonio. Kyle Smith will start the opener against Brett Kennedy at 7:05.

The Carolina Stros jumped out to a 5-0 lead, then saw it get whittled down to one run. Fortunately, they managed to score a couple of crucial insurance runs to come away with the win.

Jake Rogers launched a solo homer in the 1st to open the scoring. Buies Creek got 4 in the 4th on a 2-run single from Rodrigo Ayarza and RBI singles from Ryne Birk and Spencer Johnson. Rogers, who finished 3-5 with a stolen base (3, 4 season), scored on a wild pitch in the 8th and capped off the evening with an RBI infield single in the 9th. He now has a 9-game hitting streak. Birk and Randy César also finished with 3 hits on the evening.

Justin Ferrell allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and fanned 2 in 5 innings of work. Carlos Sierra was the first man out of the Buies Creek bullpen and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1. Andrew Walter got the save with 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing a hit, walking 1, and striking out 2.

Gabriel Valdez pitched 5 innings and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, walked 3, and struck out 4. Cionel Perez pitched the last 4 innings and allowed an unearned run on an error, a double, and struck out 4.

Carmen Benedetti ripped a 2-run double in the 3rd to put Quad Cities on the board. Wander Franco smacked an RBI double in the 4th, and Jonathan Arauz scored on a wild pitch in the 5th. Arauz drew a 1-out walk in the 7th and eventually scored on an error that allowed Benedetti to reach. Later in the frame, Yordan Alvarez hit a sac fly, and Chuckie Robinson launched a 2-run homer to bring in the last of the Banditos' runs.

Arauz (3 R, BB), Ronnie Dawson (2 2B, R), Osvaldo Duarte (2B, R), and Benedetti (2B, 2 RBI, R) all finished with 2 hits on the evening.

Team Blue swept the Red Sox in their first encounter. They got out to a 5-1 lead and tacked on 4 more in the 9th for good measure.

Ronny Rafael's 2-run blast in the 3rd opened the scoring. Rhandall Sanchez scored on an error in the 4th. César Cortez tripled and scored on a wild pitch in the 5th, and Kendy Moya had an RBI single in the 6th.

The Blue team parlayed a bases-loaded, 1 out situation into 4 runs in the 9th as Anthony Rodriguez hit an RBI single, Sanchez had a sac fly, and Ronaldo Urdaneta ripped a 2-run triple. Rafael finished 2-5 on the day.

Angel Macaure allowed 2 hits, walked 4, and struck out 4 over 4 scoreless innings. Oscar Severino allowed a run on a groundout, a double, and struck out 1 in the 5th, and Antonio Pujols allowed 4 hits while striking out 4 over 4 scoreless.

The Blue team will face the Marlins at 10:30 AM Eastern.

The Rainiers got a pair of runs in the late innings to take this one.

Tyler White launched a 2-run homer in the 1st to put Fresno on the board first. Colin Moran drove in the other Grizzlies run with a sac fly in the 3rd. White finished 3-3 on the day, while Tony Kemp went 2-4 with a double, a stolen base (8), and scored two of Fresno's three runs.

Trent Thornton went 4 innings and allowed 3 runs (2 earned, 2 inherited runners charged to him) on 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. Aaron West was the first man out of the Grizzlies bullpen and allowed 3 hits in 1.1 innings. Reymin Guduan got the final two outs of the 6th and the first out of the 7th, retiring one via strikeout. Kevin Comer got the last two outs of the 7th, but the one run he allowed came on a homer from Tyler O'Neill that gave Tacoma the lead. He allowed one other hit and struck out 1. Dayan Diaz allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1 in the 8th.

Drew Ferguson scored both of Corpus Christi's runs in game 1. He extended his hitting streak to 20 games with a solo homer in the 3rd inning. J.D. Davis hit an RBI single in the 5th inning to bring him in. Jamie Ritchie went 2-3.

Corpus got an excellent spot start from Yohan Ramirez as they earned the split in the nightcap

The one run that Ramirez allowed in his 4.2 innings was a solo homer from Alex Mejia in the 5th. He also allowed 2 other hits, walked 1, and struck out 8. Sean Stutzman took over for the final 2.1 innings, and he too allowed a solo homer; Oscar Mercado took him deep in the 7th. Stutzman allowed one other hit and struck out 3.

Trent Woodward opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st. Garrett Stubbs chipped in with a 2-run single in the 2nd, and Ferguson delivered a 2-run single of his own in the 6th. Bobby Boyd went 3-3 with a couple of doubles and scored twice. Ferguson extended his hitting streak to 21 by finishing 2-3 and scoring twice. Stubbs went 2-4, and Jack Mayfield scored the other Corpus run.

The series concludes at 7:05 as Rogelio Armenteros takes on Dakota Hudson.

Buies Creek 8, Salem 3 in 5 innings

This game was called due to lightning, which also wiped out the second game of the doubleheader. Fortunately for the Carolina Stros, they made it through 5 innings, so this game goes into the record books as a win.

Jason Martin ripped a triple in the 1st and scored the first run of the afternoon when Kyle Tucker beat a double play attempt. Little Tuck ended up scoring when Spencer Johnson got caught stealing 2nd and held out long enough for Tucker to scamper home.

Jake Rogers smacked his first homer of the day in the 2nd inning. Later in the frame, Randy César came through with the bases loaded, hitting a 2-run single. An error on the play allowed Myles Straw to score. Pat Porter hit an RBI single in the 3rd, and Rogers launched his second homer of the game in the 5th inning. He finished 3-3 on the evening while Straw went 2-2.

In his first appearance since coming off the DL, Franklin Perez allowed 3 runs (1 inherited runner charged to him) on 3 hits and struck out 3 in 2.1 innings. Sebastian Kessay allowed 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2 in 2.2 scoreless innings to get the win.

The Astros and Red Sox will conclude this series with a doubleheader. Game 1 starts at 1:00 Eastern.

The Banditos put up a crooked number in the 2nd to open the scoring, but the Chiefs hit back with 5 in the 5th to turn the tables.

Taylor Jones opened the scoring with an RBI double in the 2nd. One batter later, Osvaldo Duarte smacked a 2-run double. Marcos Almonte, who scored the first run of the evening, hit an RBI single in the 5th for one of his four hits on the night.

Carlos Sanabria went 4.1 innings and allowed 5 runs (3 inherited runners charged to him) on 3 hits, walked 4, and struck out 2. Forrest Whitley made his first relief appearance of the season and his first task was to get Sanabria out of a bases-loaded quagmire. Unfortunately, all three runners scored. Whitley went 2.2 innings and allowed a run of his own on 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 4. Ronel Blanco pitched the final two innings and allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1.

The Grizzlies have won the first game of a series for the first time in 2017. They entered this game 0-8 in series openers.

David Paulino threw 3 scoreless innings in his season debut, allowing a hit, walking 4, and striking out 4. David Martinez also threw 3 innings; the three runs he allowed came on three solo homers which happen to be the only hits he allowed in this outing. Martinez also walked and struck out a batter. Kevin Comer worked around a hit and a walk to throw a scoreless 7th, striking out 2, and Jordan Jankowski recorded a strikeout and threw two perfect innings to get the save.

Tyler White opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the 1st inning. Fresno struck for 3 in the 2nd with an RBI single from Tony Kemp and a 2-run single from Preston Tucker. Kemp grounded into a force out that scored Reid Brignac in the 6th. Brignac finished 3-4 and scored a couple of runs. Kemp and Teoscar Hernandez both finished with two hits on the night. It was also nice to see Teoscar back in action after that terrifying collision with Jose Altuve in Cleveland.

Trent Thornton takes the mound for game 2 of this series. He'll be opposed by Justin Masterson. First pitch is at 7:05.

Midland 3, Corpus Christi 1

Make that nine consecutive defeats for the Hooks. This time, the RockHounds' pitchers shackled the Corpus offense just long enough for their offense to come alive in the final two frames.

Kyle Smith allowed just 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6 over 6 shutout innings. Eric Peterson was the first man out of the Hooks bullpen and allowed 2 runs (1 inherited runner charged to him) on 3 hits and fanned 1. Michael Freeman got the final out of the 8th, but not before allowing two singles, one of which allowed the go-ahead run to score and a walk to load the bases. Fortunately, nothing came of that bases-loaded situation. Riley Ferrell allowed a run on a wild pitch, a single, and walked 1 in the 9th.

Alejandro Garcia opened the scoring with an RBI double in the 4th that was Corpus Christi's lone scoring play. Bobby Boyd hit a triple, while Garrett Stubbs swiped his 3rd base of the year.

Game 2 of this series will have Dean Deetz taking on Corey Walter at 7:05.

Brett Adcock got a rude welcome to the Carolina League and the Astros made things a bit interesting, but their comeback bid fell short.

Adcock, who was just promoted from Quad Cities, allowed 7 runs (2 inherited runners charged to him) on 9 hits (2 solo homers), walked 1, and struck out 3 in 3.1 innings. Carlos Sierra was the first man out of the Buies Creek bullpen and threw 1.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, walking 1, and striking out 1. Ralph Garza Jr. stopped the bleeding by throwing 3.1 scoreless innings; he allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and fanned 5. Howie Brey struck out 2 in a 1-2-3 9th inning.

Eduardo de Oleo put Buies Creek on the board with an RBI single in the 4th inning. Later in the frame, Anthony Hermelyn drove in another run with an RBI single of his own and de Oleo scored on a passed ball.

In the 6th, Ryne Birk hit a sac fly and Johnny Sewald ripped an RBI double. Kyle Tucker smacked an RBI double in the 7th. Birk doubled to lead off the 8th and scored on Hermelyn's 2nd RBI single of the game. Little Tuck tripled to begin the bottom of the 9th and came home on a Dex McCall groundout. Tucker, Birk, and Hermelyn all finished with 2 hits in the game.

The Astros are back on the road for 11 games, starting in Kinston, North Carolina against the Down East Wood Ducks. The Carolina League's two newest franchises will do battle in a 3-game series. The Dragons got the jump on Forrest Whitley with three runs in the bottom of the 1st as they took the series opener.

To his credit, Whitley pulled himself together and finished well, even though 4 runs in 5 innings doesn't look very pretty. He allowed 7 hits (solo homer), walked 1, and struck out 6. Erasmo Pinales pitched the final 3 innings and allowed a run on a wild pitch in the 8th, a triple to lead off the 8th, walked 2, and struck out 4.

Jake Rogers launched a solo blast in the 1st to open the scoring. Chuckie Robinson doubled to lead off the 2nd and scored on a single from Taylor Jones, and Rodrigo Ayarza hit an RBI single in the 7th. Rogers and Robinson finished with 2 hits apiece. Daz Cameron stole a couple of bases, giving him 8 on the season.

Fresno home runs: Reid Brignac (3, 2-run in 5th)

The Tacos/Grizzlies just can't seem to start series off on the right track in the early going. With this loss, they fall to 0-7 in series openers.

Brian Holmes went 3.1 innings and allowed 5 runs (1 inherited runner charged to him) on 6 hits, walked 4, and struck out 2. Kevin Comer was the first man out of the Fresno bullpen; in 1.2 innings, he allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 3. Holmes left the bases loaded and Sacramento got a sac fly off of Comer. Tyson Perez and Dayan Diaz both threw 2 scoreless innings; Perez was perfect, getting 4 groundouts and 2 flyball outs, while Diaz allowed a hit and struck out 3.

Andrew Aplin went 2-2 with a couple of walks; he put the Tacos on the board with a 2-run single in the 2nd. Reid Brignac whacked a 2-run homer in the 5th. Tyler White finished 3-4 and scored twice, while D.J. Fisher went 2-5 with a double.

Casey Coleman makes his system debut tonight at 6:35 Pacific. He'll face Michael Roth. Coleman was recently acquired from New Britain of the independent Atlantic League. He pitched three seasons with the Cubs and last appeared in the Majors in 2014 with the Royals.

Midland 6, Corpus Christi 1

The Hooks offense was MIA as they dropped the first of four in Midland.

Bryan Muñiz went 2-4 and spoiled the shutout with an RBI single in the 9th. Garrett Stubbs hit a double to extend his hitting streak to 6 games.

Rogelio Armenteros went 3.2 innings and allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, walked 3, and struck out 3. Eric Peterson was the first man out and threw 1.1 innings; he got Armenteros out of a bases-loaded jam to end the 4th but allowed 3 runs of his own in the 5th. He allowed 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1. Josh James pitched the final 3 innings, allowing a run on 4 hits, walking 2, and striking out 3.

Brock Dykxhoorn will get the start in game 2 of this series. He'll face James Naile at 11:00 AM.

Buies Creek 4, Carolina 3 in 12 innings

The Carolina Stros scored 2 in the top of the 8th to break a 1-1 tie. The Mudcats got 2 of their own in the bottom of the 9th to restore the deadlock, and that's where it stood until Kyle Tucker got a hold of a Quintin Torres-Costa offering with 2 outs in the 12th, sending one out to put Buies Creek back in front.

Little Tuck opened the scoring way back in the 1st with a sac fly. Osvaldo Duarte tripled to lead off the 8th and trotted home on a triple from Arturo Michelena, who scored on Dex McCall's RBI single.

The one run that Matt Bower allowed in his 5 innings of work came on a home run hit by Isan Diaz, who has really become a thorn in the Astros' side this season. Bower also allowed 4 other hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. Carlos Sierra struck out 2 over 3 perfect frames. Ryan Deemes went 3.1 innings and allowed a game-tying 2-run homer to Lucas Erceg with one out in the 9th. He also allowed 3 other hits, walked 2, and fanned 3. Nick Hernandez got the final two outs of the 12th, one via strikeout, to get the save.

Buies Creek looks for the sweep later this morning as Yoanys Quiala takes the mound. He'll take on Conor Harber at 11:00 AM Eastern.

Quad Cities 9, Fort Wayne 5

QC home runs: Jake Rogers (5, solo in 2nd), Rodrigo Ayarza (4, solo in 2nd)

The Banditos finally got a chance to get back on the diamond after two days of rainouts in Clinton. They broke a 2-2 tie in the 6th, briefly lost the lead in the 7th, and then seized control with a pair of 3-run innings.

Quad Cities got on the board thanks to back-to-back solo homers from Jake Rogers and Rodrigo Ayarza in the 2nd inning. Ayarza added a sac fly to his ledger in the 6th inning. Fort Wayne scored 3 in the top of the 7th to take a 5-3 lead, but the River Bandits wouldn't be down for long.

Carmen Benedetti walked to lead off the bottom of the 7th inning. Ronnie Dawson joined him on the bases by drawing a walk, and Stephen Wrenn looked to move the two of them over with a sac bunt but he ended up reaching anyway. Alex De Goti went down on strikes for the first out, but Randy César kept the line moving by walking Benedetti home. Rogers followed with a 2-run single that put the Banditos back in front. Benedetti singled to lead off the 8th and came around to score on Wrenn's RBI single. Wrenn, who advanced to 2nd as Dawson was getting thrown out at 3rd, came around to score on an error that allowed De Goti to reach. César capped off the evening by ripping an RBI double.

Rogers finished a triple shy of the cycle, while César (2B, 2 RBI, R) and Wrenn (RBI, 2 R) had 2 hits apiece.

Enoli Paredes had a bit of a rough start to his evening but he managed to right the ship. He went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs in the 1st on 3 hits (solo homer), walked 3, and struck out 8. Paredes did not allow a hit after the 2nd inning. Ryan Hartman tagged in for 3 innings and allowed 3 runs on 2 hits (2-run homer), walked 3, and struck out 4. Erasmo Pinales struck out 2 in a 1-2-3 9th.

Carson LaRue gets the start in game 2. He'll face Logan Allen at 6:35.
