W- Steven Bruce (3-4)
L- Brett Adcock (4-4, 5-4 season)
S- Jose Valdespina (1)

BC home runs: Carmen Benedetti (1, 5 season; solo in 3rd)

The Carolina Stros got a couple of two-out RBI singles in the 8th to get closer, but two runs was as close as they could get.

Carmen Benedetti opened the scoring with his first Carolina League home run to start the 3rd inning. Stephen Wrenn singled to lead off the 4th and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Buies Creek's 2 runs in the 8th came on RBI singles from Yordan Alvarez and Taylor Jones. Wrenn and Alvarez both finished 2-4 on the night.

L- Bailey Ober (1-1)
S- Humberto Castellanos (1)

Greeneville home runs: Roman Garcia 2 (6; solo in 4th, 2-run in 6th)

The Appy Astros got a big series win thanks to Roman Garcia's bat and the combined efforts of Chad Donato and Humberto Castellanos on the mound.

Garcia was essentially the Greeneville offense on Friday as he finished 3-4 with 2 homers. He accounted for three of the five Greeneville hits and two of their three runs

Donato was a winner in his Appalachian League debut, allowing 3 hits, walking 2, and striking out 7 over 5 shutout innings. Humberto Castellanos allowed the only Elizabethton run on a homer, 4 other hits, and struck out 3 in the final 4 innings.

Greeneville will now open a 4-game series against Kingsport with a doubleheader; they're making up a game that was originally scheduled for July 3. The twinbill starts at 4:00 Eastern.

The Palm Beach Stros held off a little rally from the Marlins.

Enmanuel Valdez had a hand in all 3 runs on Friday; he hit a 2-out triple in the 3rd and scored the first run of the day on a passed ball. Valdez added a sac fly in the 5th and got plunked with the bases loaded in the 7th inning. Nathan Perry finished 2-4.

Tanner Duncan and Diosward Gonzalez started off with 3 innings apiece. Duncan struck out 4 in a perfect outing, while Gonzalez allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. Carlos Pimentel allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1 in the 7th. Chauncey Nuñez got an out in the 8th but ran into instant trouble, as he walked the first two men he faced and uncorked a wild pitch which allowed one of them to score. He also allowed a double, which prompted Devin Raftery's entrance. Raftery got out of the inning with 2 strikeouts and then worked around a double in the 9th to close out the game. Raftery also recorded a strikeout in the 9th.

W- Oscar Severino (3-0)

W- Cy Sneed (7-4)
L- Yohander Mendez (5-5)
S- Josh James (2)

CC home runs: J.D. Davis (18, 2-run in 5th)

The Hooks won their final game before the Texas League All-Star break and ended up taking the series from the Roughriders.

Yoanys Quiala, Cy Sneed, and Josh James all threw 3 innings. Quiala allowed 2 hits and struck out 1. Sneed was the first man out of the bullpen and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 1. James earned the save, allowing a hit, walking 1, and striking out 4.

Frisco scored a pair in the 6th to cut the Corpus lead to one run, but Dex McCall got one of the runs back by tripling and scoring on a wild pitch. McCall and Davis finished with 2 hits apiece.

The Texas League All-Star Game will take place Tuesday in Frisco. The Hooks' contingent consists of Josh James, Rogelio Armenteros, Garrett Stubbs, Jon Singleton, Drew Ferguson, J.D. Davis, and Jack Mayfield. Kyle Smith was also named a Texas League All-Star, but he's currently with Fresno.

Winston-Salem 4, Buies Creek 0

W- Tanner Banks (7-3)
L- Ryan Hartman (0-3, 3-4 season)

BC home runs: None.

The Carolina Stros were shut down on Sunday afternoon.

All they got on offense was a single from Yordan Alvarez and a double from Alex De Goti.

Ryan Hartman pitched 6 innings and allowed 4 runs on 8 hits (solo and 2-run homers) and struck out 2. Ralph Garza allowed a hit and fanned 2 over 2 scoreless.

Buies Creek is back at Campbell to start a 4-game series with Carolina. Jorge Alcala will start game 1 and he'll face Marcos Diplan 7:00 at Eastern.

Cedar Rapids 6, Quad Cities 2

W- Clark Beeker (7-2)
L- Ronel Blanco (2-2, 2-3 season)

QC home runs: None.

The Banditos had to settle for the split after the Kernels opened things up with 3 runs in the 4th. They were also left to lament over their missed opportunities; they went 0-12 with runners in scoring position on Sunday.

Ray Henderson put Quad Cities on the board with an RBI double in the 5th. Tyler Wolfe scored the other run on an error. Wander Franco went 2-4 with a double.

Ronel Blanco went 4.2 innings and allowed 4 runs on 6 hits (2 solo homers), walked 6, and struck out 2. Devon Carr was the first man out of the Quad Cities bullpen and went 2.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, walking 1, and striking out 1. Dustin Hunt walked 1 and struck out 2 in 2 scoreless innings.

Cionel Perez will start the first of a 4-game series in Wisconsin at 7:05. He'll face Jordan Desguin.

Vermont 10, Tri-City 9

W- Carlos Sanchez (1-0)
L- Diogenes Almengo (0-1)
S- Branden Kelliher (1)

TC home runs: Corey Julks (1, solo in 1st), Abraham Toro-Hernandez 2 (2; 2-run in 3rd, 3-run in 5th), Kyle Davis (1, 2-run in 6th)

Tri-City smacked four homers, but a disastrous top of the 7th condemned them to defeat on Sunday.

Both teams scored a run in the 1st inning; Tri-City got theirs on Corey Julks' first pro homer. Abraham Toro-Hernandez whacked a 2-run homer in the 3rd and launched a 3-run blast in the 5th inning. In the 6th, Reid Russell scored on Julks' grounder and one batter later, Kyle Davis got a hold of one and sent it out for a 2-run homer.

Both of Toro's hits left the yard. J.J. Matijevic went 3-5 and scored a run in his pro debut. Davis (2-R HR) and Jake Adams (2 R) also finished with 2 hits on the night.

Carlos Hiraldo went 4 innings and allowed 5 runs on 8 hits (solo homer), walked 2, and struck out 3. Diogenes Almengo went 2.2 innings. He did not allow a hit and struck out 1. However, he also allowed 5 runs (3 inherited runners charged to him) and walked 8. Humberto Castellanos allowed a hit and struck out 1 in 2.1 innings. Castellanos technically had a scoreless appearance, but all 3 runners he inherited from Almengo scored.

The ValleyCats will look to avoid the sweep at 7:00 Eastern.

Greeneville 11, Bristol 4

W- Hansel Paulino (1-0)
L- Argenis Romano (0-2)

Greeneville home runs: Cody Bohanek (1, solo in 6th)

The Appy Astros came alive in the late stages of the game, scoring 9 of their 11 runs in the final two frames.

The 2 runs Adam Bleday allowed in his 2 innings came on a homer hit by Edison Lantigua in the 1st inning. Bleday allowed one other hit, walked 1, and struck out 3. Tim Hardy got the first two outs of the 3rd, allowing a hit and walking 1. Jesus Balaguer threw 2.1 innings in his first game in American pro baseball, allowing a hit and fanning 3. Hansel Paulino pitched the final 4 innings and allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits (solo homer), walked 1, and struck out 2.

Brody Westmoreland put Greeneville on the board with an RBI single in the 3rd inning. Cody Bohanek launched his first pro homer to start the 6th inning.

Chas McCormick walked to start off the 8th inning. Bohanek and Westmoreland joined him on the bases after singling and reaching on an error, respectively. Two batters later, Frankeny Fernandez brought McCormick and Bohanek home with a double that tied the game at 4. Roman Garcia put the Appy Astros in front with a 2-run single.

Oscar Campos and McCormick singled to begin the 9th and they both advanced on a sac bunt from Bohanek. Westmoreland walked to load the bases, which brought up Reiny Beltre. Campos scored on a botched force out attempt and the bases remained loaded for Fernandez, who reached on an error that saw McCormick and Westmoreland score. Beltre scored on a Garcia groundout and Fernandez scored the final run of the evening on an error that allowed Gilberto Celestino to reach safely.

McCormick went 3-4 with a walk, a stolen base, and scored 3 runs. Bohanek finished 2-4 on the evening. Garcia only had one hit, but he managed to drive in 3. Fernandez had his 2-run double and also scored twice.

Noel Pinto starts game 2 of this series. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

Midland 12, Corpus Christi 3

W- Grant Holmes (2-1)
L- Brock Dykxhoorn (0-2)

CC home runs: Jon Singleton (3, 3-run in 3rd)

Not a day to remember for the Hooks pitchers as they got shelled to the tune of five home runs.

Jon Singleton's 3-run blast in the 3rd was Corpus Christi's only scoring play. Drew Ferguson, who scored one of the runs, stole his 7th base of the season. Jamie Ritchie went 2-4.

Brock Dykxhoorn only lasted 2.2 innings and allowed 7 runs on 6 hits (2 2-run homers), walked 4, and struck out 4. Michael Freeman tagged in for 2.1 innings; the three runs he allowed all came on a homer hit by Tyler Marincov in the 6th inning. Freeman also allowed 3 other hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. Jacob Dorris pitched the final 3 innings, and Marincov tagged him for a couple of solo shots. He allowed two other hits, walked 2, and fanned 2.

Cy Sneed faces Heath Fillmyer in game 3 of this series. First pitch is at 7:00.

The Mudcats shut out Buies Creek to foil their bid to sweep the series.

The Astros only mustered up three hits, two of which were doubles from Myles Straw and Christian Correa. Kyle Tucker stole two bases, giving him 9 on the year.

Yoanys Quiala and Framber Valdez turned in good outings, but they didn't get any run support. Quiala went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. Framber pitched the final 3 innings and only allowed one hit, a solo homer hit by Jake Gatewood. He also issued a couple of walks and struck out 4.

Hector Perez will make his first Carolina League start in Buies Creek's first game in Myrtle Beach. He'll go up against Thomas Hatch at 7:05 Eastern.

Another organization sweep!

Fresno 10, Las Vegas 3

W- Edison Frias (1-1)
L- Wilfredo Boscan (0-1)
S- Tyson Perez (1)

Fresno home runs: None.

The Grizz stormed out of the gate with 5 in the 1st and used a 4-run 8th inning to remove any remaining doubts regarding the outcome of this game.

Edison Frias turned in 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits (solo homer), walking 2, and striking out 5. Ryan Thompson and Tyson Perez finished off the game by throwing 2 innings apiece. The one run Thompson allowed came on a solo homer from Jayce Boyd in the 7th; he allowed one other hit and struck out 3.

All 5 Fresno runs in the opening inning came with two outs. A.J. Reed opened the scoring with an RBI single, and then Preston Tucker and Teoscar Hernandez loaded the bases with singles of their own. Colin Moran and Jon Kemmer followed with 2-run singles. Reed added an RBI single in the 2nd. In the 8th, Juan Centeno ripped an RBI triple, Tyler White lashed an RBI double, and Reed capped off the night with another RBI single, his third hit of the game.

Big Tuck (R, BB) and D.J. Fisher (2 R, SB [2]) both went 3-4; Tucker extended his hitting streak to 11 games. The bottom third of the order (Moran, Kemmer, Centeno) combined to go 6-12 (they all went 2-4) with 5 RBI (Moran and Kemmer 2 each, Centeno 1) and 3 runs scored.

The Grizzlies and 51s will wrap up their series tonight at 7:05 Pacific. Brian Holmes faces Adam Wilk.

Corpus Christi 7, Frisco 6 in 11 innings

W- Michael Freeman (2-0)
L- Nick Gardewine (0-1)
S- Jacob Dorris (1)

CC home runs: Alejandro Garcia (3, 3-run in 3rd), J.D. Davis (3, solo in 11th)

J.D. Davis only had one hit, but it proved to be the difference in the first skirmish involving the Astros and Rangers organizations in 2017.

Alejandro Garcia put the Hooks on the board first when he launched a 3-run homer in the 3rd inning. He's matched his home run total from 2016 in 13 games. However, the Riders took the lead thanks to a 4-run 4th inning. Jack Mayfield led off the 6th with a walk, advanced to 3rd on a Jamie Ritchie double, and scored the tying run when Bryan Muñiz legged out an infield single.

Corpus thought that they had a chance to go for the win when they scored a couple of runs in the top of the 9th to regain the lead. Garcia got plunked with the bases loaded to bring in the go-ahead run, and Mayfield walked Ramon Laureano home. However, Frisco scored two of their own in the bottom of the 9th to force extra innings. After both sides went scoreless in the 10th, Davis greeted new Frisco pitcher Nick Gardewine with a 1-out solo home run.

Garcia finished 3-5 and also stole his 2nd base of the season. Ritchie (2 2B) and Jon Singleton (2B) both went 2-5.

Kent Emanuel allowed 4 runs on 7 hits (2-run homer), walked 1, and struck out 7 in 4 innings of work. Eric Peterson, Riley Ferrell, and Michael Freeman followed with 2 innings each out of the bullpen. Peterson was first; he allowed a hit and struck out 1. Ferrell allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2, and Freeman allowed the tying runs, both of which were unearned, on a groundout and a double in the 9th. The double was the only hit that he surrendered; he also walked 3 and struck out 1. Freeman also managed to get himself out of a bases-loaded jam to end the 10th. Jacob Dorris threw a 1-2-3 11th to get the save.

Josh James gets the start in game 2. He'll take on Reed Garrett at 7:05.

Buies Creek 14, Carolina 1

W- Franklin Perez (2-0)
L- Cody Ponce (2-1)
S- Matt Bower (1)

BC home runs: None.

Franklin Perez was fantastic and the Buies Creek offense went on a rampage.

Perez allowed just two hits and struck out 7 over 5 shutout innings. Matt Bower finished the game and allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5 in the final 4 innings.

Anthony Hermelyn doubled to lead off the 2nd inning and scored on a single from Anibal Sierra. The real fun started in the 3rd inning.

Myles Straw kicked things off with a single, and then Dex McCall moved him over to 3rd base with a single to bring up Ryne Birk, who ripped a 2-run triple. Hermelyn joined him on the bases by drawing a walk. The Astros put up 7 runs in the inning, 5 of which came with two outs. Osvaldo Duarte proceeded to lace an RBI single, and then Sierra got plunked to load the bases. Hermelyn scored on an error that allowed Jason Martin to reach. Straw smacked a 2-run double in his second plate appearance of the evening, and Kyle Tucker, who was the first casualty of the inning, drove in the final run of the frame with a single. Duarte hit an RBI groundout in the 4th inning.

Buies put up 4 more in the 5th as Birk and Hermelyn drew bases-loaded walks and Duarte smacked a 2-run double. Little Tuck capped off the onslaught with an RBI double in the 6th. Everyone in the lineup recorded a hit; the Astros scored all 14 of their runs without hitting a home run.

In game 2 of this series, Yoanys Quiala will go up against Marcos Diplan. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 8, Clinton 2

W- Carson LaRue (1-0)
L- Tim Viehoff (0-1)

QC home runs: Stephen Wrenn (3, 2-run in 8th), Jake Rogers (2, solo in 8th)

The Banditos have launched 14 home runs in their last 4 games and this show of force has vaulted them to the top of Minor League Baseball in that category.
Clinton got on the board first with a run in the 2nd, but Quad Cities hit back with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning. Chuckie Robinson ripped a 2-run double to put the Bandits in front, and he came around to score on a Marcos Almonte single. Spencer Johnson hit a 2-run single in the 5th to push the lead to 5-1, and the Bandits capped off another win with some fireworks. Stephen Wrenn clubbed a 2-run homer in the 8th and Jake Rogers smacked a solo shot for their final run of the evening.

The top third of the Quad Cities lineup (Wrenn, Alex De Goti, and Rogers) all had two hits on the evening. Wrenn stole a base (4), while Rogers scored twice. Rodrigo Ayarza went 3-4 with a double and scored a run.

Carson LaRue went 5 innings and allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. Dustin Hunt tagged in for 3 scoreless innings, allowing a hit and striking out 1. Derick Velazquez pitched the 9th and allowed an unearned run on a single and struck out 1.

Brett Adcock will start game 2 of this series. He'll face Nick Wells at 6:35.
